The Dragon Lords:

Night of the Solstice

By Enrich Volunstein

Prologue

The city of Caston was the crown jewel of the Grenwood Vale, or so Duke Raynar Wydrad had liked to believe. It was a large city situated neatly between the Grenwood River and the Bay of Caston. People from all walks of life lived within its walls, and many more came to the city to do business as it was a bustling centre of trade on the continent of Caleston.

Within the walls the city was divided into 5 separate districts. The main district most people entered the city via was the Emerald Plaza, in which many of the buildings were modelled after elven architecture from the city of Elràise to the south. Green tiled roofs and white marble walls were the predominant features to be seen. Beyond the Emerald Plaza was Markettown, a redbrick cobblestone quarter where artisans and merchants make their living. Also in Markettown are the trade docks where ships bring in goods and travellers. To the north of Markettown lies The Bricks, a shambling, homely part of town where the League of Shadows makes their home. Across the river from Markettown is the district of Old Caston, where many of the city's guild halls reside, as well as Waerell Keep, the castle from which Duke Wydrad rules the city. Lastly, attached to the Emerald Plaza are the Gardens of Alàise, where the people of Caston go to unwind and take in the beauty of nature and the goddess Alàise.

It is here, in the heart of the Grenwood Vale that our story begins, when six adventurers receive a letter from an unnamed figure to meet at the Ivory Pearl Inn on Kythorn the 1st. Whatever they did before this doesn't matter, as this is the adventure that will turn them into legends.

Author's Note:
This story is a recollection of my multi-year DnD Campaign that just wrapped up at the end of 2024. Most of the events that occur in the story did, in fact, happen or were slightly changed to make for better storytelling. All characters that appear are property of my friends and myself as we created them for the use of this campaign setting. The world of Caleston is my own and I have too many 30 page documents of world building to prove it. The story is also told in universe by a bard npc as such there are * notes in chapters that offer further clarification on different things in universe. I hope you enjoy this story as much as I've enjoyed writing it.
