I added the finishing touches to my device. Even though it was just a prototype, it was still one of my most complicated inventions.
I activated it, feeling the most confident I've ever been in my life.
"Ta Da!" I said as balls of blue and orange light floated around my invention. "I call it the Photac!" I exclaimed.
I watched as my teacher walked over. He grabs one of the balls of light and holds it in his hand. He calls out my name "Ana."
"Yes, Teacher?" I replied.
"This is already far more advanced than any of the other science fair projects. Is this some kind of a... hard light?" He says.
"How did you do it?" He asked.
"I just kinda threw some parts together hoping it would work, and... stayed up till midnight the last eight weeks! So yeah.. that's it!"
"As interesting as this is, we mustn't stray from the mandated curriculum according to the decree of the great Empress Beatrix."
"All hail the great Empress Beatrix!" My classmates said in unison.
I sighed as I watched the teacher give the 1st place blue ribbon to someone who made a baking soda volcano. Really?
I walked home in silence.
Maybe tomorrow things would go better.
