Chapter 1
One day, on the planet Earth… 8-year-old, Castam Kordes was outside raking leaves as a weird red starship appeared in the sky. It looked as if it was heading right for Castam. As the ship landed beside Castam a man stepped out.
"Good day young one, my name is Jedi Master Quarrel Gina, I'm here to take you to Yavin 4." The man said. Cas dropped his rake in awe.
"Well c'mon then. We must keep schedule." Cas hastily stepped on board the ship.
"Why are you taking me to Yavin?" Cas asked.
"Well because you're to be a Jedi." Gina replied.
"But Jedi aren't real, they're from a galaxy far far away and didn't they die long ago...?" Cas stated. As Cas said that Gina motioned for the pilot to take off.
"Well Jedi are real my boy. And you're to be one. Now try focusing on this glass of water, center yourself reach out to it and envision lifting it in your mind." Gina said. Cas held out his hand and almost instantly the cup flipped over spilling the water.
"Dang it!" Cas yelled. "Hold back your anger young one. Using the force is hard. That is why you will be trained as a youngling to use it." Gina stated.
"Well I don't know if I'll be good at using the force, but I sure am good at programming stuff." Cas said. Then he pulled out a box from his jacket pocket and said.
"CO-1 please come out." Then a battle droid quickly unfolded from the box and said. "Awaiting orders sir!"
"Impressive" Gina stated plainly
"This is my first droid I'm going to make more though." Cas said. "You are not needed right now return to the box please" Cas ordered. The droid quickly again folded back into the box. Cas smiled at his creation then took a seat in the shuttle across from Master Gina. Cas looked over Gina as the Jedi Master typed away on a small datapad, he was dressed in a traditional set of brown Jedi robes with a rather basic silver lightsaber hilt highlighted with a shiny metallic coating near the emitter hanging from his hip. Moving his eyes up to his face Cas noticed that while the Twi'lek Jedi Master's skin was green he had several spots of orange markings along his lekuu. Then Gina would look up from his datapad, smiling to the young soon-to-be Jedi.
"Well Castam I am sure it is quite exciting to be on the way to the temple for the first time, how do you feel?" Cas would gulp as a feeling of anxiety suddenly washed over him… He had just put his rake down and went with a complete stranger, not even telling his parents goodbye. What would his friends say? 'Atleast I don't have to go to school anymore' he thought 'Only a ton of fun Jedi training lie ahead' he would chuckle to himself at that then turn his attention back to Master Gina.
"Oh yes! I'm very excited… But what about my life back on Earth?" Master Gina would set down his datapad on the seat next to him
"Don't worry Castam we've just notified your parents of this and we of course got their permission beforehand, I would've thought they told you about this already, no?"
Cas would raise an eyebrow at this, why hadn't they told him anything? "No they didn't tell me, but that's probably because they just wanted it to be a surprise. I'm sure your parents did a similar thing, right Master Gina?"
Gina would sigh, "Actually I like most other Jedi was brought to the temple as an infant so I never really knew my parents…"
Cas would almost gasp "Oh my gosh! I'm sorry, I didn't realize that. Do you… Miss them?"
Gina would chuckle "Well I've never met them, so I don't think I can really miss them. I don't really wonder much about what my life would've been like if the Jedi hadn't found me. I don't think it matters much, I've done so much good as a Jedi it is truly the perfect calling for me." He would give Cas a wink. "And I'm sure it's a life that will be good to you as well."
"Well what do you do as a Jedi?" Cas would situp in his seat leaning forward towards Master Gina eager to hear about his tales of fighting bad guys with his awesome lightsaber, moving entire mountains with his mind, and leading soldiers into battle.
Gina would sense his excitement, and would chuckle a bit to himself. "Well currently I serve one of the most important jobs our order has to offer."
"What is it?!" Cas would be on the edge of his seat, his feet drumming against the ground at what possibly this job could be. A battlemaster in charge of bringing justice to the galaxy and defeating all enemies of the Republic? A Jedi starfighter pilot who always gets to zoom around in the best starfighters in the galaxy waging war in space? Maybe a Jedi investigator that solves crimes and brings criminals to justice? Oh, the possibilities!
"I am the Temple overseer for the training of our younglings and initiates. A quite pivotal role in which I ensure that all young students of the order are receiving a proper education that will serve them well as they become padawans."
Cas would sit back, deflated "Oh.."
Gina would smile, "I know its not what you expected, but you have to understand that Jedi are not warriors. We are peacekeepers, I know most of what you have probably heard of us involves action packed scenes of lightsaber dueling, but that is quite foreign to our day to day lives." He would stand, patting Cas on the shoulder before turning and heading to the cockpit, but he would turn over his shoulder before leaving the room to give the young boy a warm smile and nod before he entered the cockpit and the automated door slid shut behind him. Cas sat in his seat pondering whether this was a life he wanted to live.
A few hours later…
The door to the cockpit slid open and the familiar Green Twi'lek's head peaked out
"We've landed, Castam I'm going to show you around before you go to your dorm." Gina said. Cas sprang to his feet excited to see all the temple had to offer. Cas could hear a hydraulic noise as he saw part of the floor to descend and form a ramp to the landing pad below. With Gina leading the way the pair would walk out onto the landing pad. As soon as he stepped out under the bright blue sky of the jungle planet he felt as though this place might be the most magnificent place he had ever seen. Looking around he saw the landing pad was elevated, jutting out from one of the large pyramid like Jedi Temples which looked more ancient than anything Cas had ever seen. When he looked off the side of the platform he would wobble at how high they are from the Jungle canopy beneath. A shiver ran through him at what beasts could be hiding in there. As the two walked into the grand temple hall Cas knew that this was both a place of infinite wisdom and infinite possibilities…
As the tour was almost finished Gina said "
This is your dorm. Your roommate is Leah Ree." As Gina turned to leave Cas called after him "
Wait! Why do I have to share a room with a girl?! There's seriously no other rooms?" Gina stared at Cas and he didn't even have to tell Cas the answer. Cas turned and walked into his room to meet his roommate.
"Howdy roomy." Leah said as he walked in. Unlike Gina, Leah was human. She dressed in light tan robes that contrasted her dark black hair quite well.
"Howdy." Cas said back.
"Well roomy" Leah said. "You have top bunk."
Cas replied "First of all the names Castam, Castam Kordes.. Friends call me Cas actually. Anyways how do I get up there. Where's the ladder?" He would point to the top bunk
"Well Cas" Leah would say accentuating his name "You have to force jump up there."
"Force jump?" Cas replied "I'd rather not. CO-1 please come out." The droid came out once again.
"Orders sir?" The droid said.
"Yes" Cas said this time. "I'd like you to build me a ladder with any spare parts in that crate over there. If either of you need me I'll be in the repair bay." Cas then walked out the door hoping to get started on his own Astromech that would help him build more security droids. After 1 hour when Cas was almost finished with building the Astromech Leah walked into the repair bay.
"Well Cas your droid has done a mighty fine job on that ladder of yours." Leah said. "Also, I just wanted to let you know all the younglings are going to Ilum to get Lightsaber crystals tomorrow. And I was also wondering what you're building."
"Well it's going to be a model of an R-4 astromech. And when is dinner served here? I'm starving." Cas replied.
"I'm just about to get dinner if you want to come with me." Leah said. Cas then followed Leah to the huge cafeteria. As they sat down at a table a red-headed boy came over and sat with them.
"Finally!" Cas exclaimed "Another boy. I'm Cas by the way."
"Ronald. But you can call me Ron." The boy replied.
"What's your last name? Weasley?" Cas joked.
"Yeah. How did you know?" Ron replied.
Cas face-palmed and said "Lucky guess." After they were done eating Cas returned to his dorm to find that his droid was recharging in his box and had built an adequate ladder that now leaned against the bunks. As he climbed up the ladder and lied in bed he stared at the ceiling, thinking of the adventures that lie ahead especially tomorrow when he would get his very own lightsaber.
