On a serene and sunlit Saturday morning, Shelby stirred from her slumber at 8:15 am. She leisurely stretched, feeling the warmth of the morning sun seeping through the curtains. As she glanced around the room, she noticed that her friend Cassie was not in bed. Curious, she made her way downstairs, where she was immediately enveloped by the delightful aroma of sizzling breakfast and the rich scent of freshly brewed coffee.
With a contented smile, Shelby donned her soft robe and slid into her comfortable slippers before padding into the kitchen. There, she found Cassie orchestrating a culinary masterpiece. Cassie greeted her with a warm smile and graciously accepted Shelby's offer of help. Cassie requested Shelby's assistance in preparing the classic French toast, and also asked her to create a vegan version for their friend Rachel. Meanwhile, Cassie began deftly slicing an array of colorful fruits to accompany the meal.
Shelby eagerly took on the tasks, carefully dipping thick slices of bread into a rich, cinnamon-infused batter before expertly griddling them to a golden brown. As the tantalizing aroma of the French toast filled the kitchen, Shelby deftly cracked eggs into a bowl, preparing to whip up a delectable scramble.
The morning began with the four teenagers waking up at different times. Rachel and Kitty were the first to make their way downstairs to greet Shelby, with Cassie following shortly after. Ten minutes later, Quinn strolled into the kitchen, offering a cheerful "Good morning!" to everyone. Santana, known for her slower mornings, was the last to join them in the kitchen. She lazily greeted everyone as she settled onto a stool near the counter.
Shelby, with a warm smile, ran her fingers through her hair and greeted Santana, asking how she had slept. Santana, still waking up, replied with a relaxed "Good morning."
As the group gathered in the kitchen, Cassie announced that breakfast was ready. They all made their way to the dining room and took their seats at the table, ready to enjoy their meal together. While sitting at the table, Cassie leaned in and spoke with a warm smile, her eyes sparkling with affection. "Girls, I just want you to know that if you ever need to reach me, you can use Nana's home phone, okay?" The girls nodded in understanding, but Cassie couldn't help but notice a subtle eye roll from one of them.
"Is there something you'd like to say, Kit?" Cassie questioned her youngest daughter, her tone gentle but firm.
"Nana isn't going to let us watch TV or have any fun," Kitty explained, her frustration evident in her voice.
"Have you forgotten that you're all grounded and you're not supposed to have fun all the time?" Kit listened to your Nana, Cassie reminded them, her expression reflecting a mix of understanding and authority.
"Yes, ma'am," they said.
As they finished their brief conversation, the family continued to enjoy breakfast. After the meal, Shelby reminded the teenagers that they were going to visit Nana's house after getting dressed. The teenagers tidied up the kitchen before heading to their bedroom to change into their clothes. Shelby and Cassie then drove them to her mom's house, and they placed their overnight bag in the back of the black Cadillac Escalade. After a journey of an hour and a half, they arrived at Nana's house. Nana greeted them outside with warm hugs, took their bags inside, and then Shelby and Cassie had a conversation with Shelby's mom, Stacey. After the girls said their goodbyes and hugged each family member, their moms departed.
As the parents set out on a morning outing to show their support for a charitable cause, the four affectionate sisters, aged 14 through 16, eagerly unpacked their vibrantly colored overnight bags in the warmly decorated, sunlit guest room. Delicate floral wallpaper adorned the walls, and the air was fragrant with the lingering scent of Nana's homemade lavender potpourri.
Their grandmother, Nana, a kind-hearted and sprightly woman, gathered the girls into the spacious living room adorned with an array of family photographs and antique décor. With warmth in her eyes, she asked the girls to put on their shoes, hinting at an exciting surprise she had in store for them that evening. The sisters enthusiastically headed to the foyer, where they slipped on their shoes and joined Nana beside her trusty, sky-blue Volvo station wagon. The car ride was filled with lively chatter and laughter as they made their way to the bustling local grocery store.
Upon arrival, Nana expertly weaved through the bustling aisles, her eyes gleaming as she carefully handpicked the freshest vegetables, dairy products, and an assortment of delectable snacks for her beloved grandchildren. Meanwhile, Quinn, the poised and responsible eldest sibling, adeptly maneuvered the shopping cart through each aisle with precision. Nana also made sure to choose a variety of vegan food items for Rachel, taking into account her dietary preferences, in addition to essentials like oatmeal, a selection of fruits, rice, spaghetti noodles, freshly ground coffee, premade meals, and various cuts of meat for the family.
As they traversed the store, the sisters engaged in cheerful conversation and occasionally sneaked a treat into the cart, adding to the joyous atmosphere of their impromptu grocery trip.
After procuring all the necessary items, Nana inquired about the sisters' dinner preferences for the evening. Excited about the idea of having tacos, the girls eagerly gathered the required ingredients. Nana then dispatched two of the sisters to obtain the seasoning and taco shells, while she accompanied Rachel and Quinn to select fresh lettuce, an assortment of cheeses, and a container of sour cream.
They all reunited at the checkout line, with Santana, the second youngest sister, skillfully maneuvering the laden shopping cart. In harmonious collaboration, they worked together to place all the groceries on the conveyor belt for the cashier to ring up. Nana graciously handled the payment, while the girls efficiently bagged the groceries and loaded them into the trunk of the car. Rachel then returned the empty cart to its designated spot before joining her sisters in the back seat of the car. Nana then drove to a quaint flower shop, where she carefully selected a variety of seeds for her meticulously tended garden, along with pots and roses to adorn their home.
Upon returning home, the group grabbed a bag from the trunk and carried it inside to the kitchen. The girls then proceeded to put away all the groceries and washed their hands before joining Nana in her garden. They helped care for the roses and assisted in planting seeds with Kitty adding water to the newly potted plants. After finishing in the garden, they washed their hands and returned inside the house to lie on the couch, each engrossed in their individual reading.
Meanwhile, Nana was in the kitchen preparing tea, adding to the cozy and heartwarming atmosphere of their day. After, finishing the tea preparation, the kind nanny took the time to thoughtfully prepare a variety of delicious snacks for everyone to enjoy. She lovingly called out to the girls, inviting them to join her in the cozy kitchen. The girls, excitedly putting down their books, eagerly joined their nanny, where they all indulged in delightful apples and ham sandwiches, paired with refreshing drinks. As they savored their treats, they engaged in lively conversation, discussing the book they had been absorbed in, and relishing each other's company.
As the afternoon slipped away, at 5 pm, Nana, began to cook, expertly browning the meat in the skillet while the girls wandered outside for a short time. Suddenly, the phone rang, and one of the girls, Kitty, hurried to answer. "Hello, this is Kitty speaking," she greeted the caller.
"Hi Kitty, it's Grandma Joanna. Your mother told me that all of you are spending the night with your Nana Stacey. I hope all of you are on your best behavior," Grandma Joanna inquired with warmth in her voice.
"Yes, Grandma, we are on our best behavior," Kitty assured her. "We are about to eat soon," she added with excitement.
"I love all of you," Grandma Joanna expressed her affection before bidding goodbye after Kitty reciprocated the sentiment.
After some time, they sat down to enjoy their dinner and engaged in a lively conversation about their school experiences and their upcoming family vacation. They also discussed Rachel's adoption and upcoming party. The friends expressed how much they missed socializing and chatting with their friends since being grounded. Nana Stacey reminded them that they should have considered the consequences before attending the party and acting up in school. "Your parents and guardian wouldn't be so upset with all of you," she said, looking at them.
"I know, Nana," they said, looking down at their lap.
"I'm not trying to make all of you feel bad, girls, but what the three of you did that night was very dangerous - attending Santana's friend's wild party. If all of you do that again, I'm going to spank every single one of you," Nana Stacey said.
Additionally, addressing Rachel's behavior towards her teacher, Stacey stressed the importance of showing respect and the consequences of talking back. "I will spank you next time," Nana Stacey said with a stern voice.
"I know this won't help much, Nana," Rachel said, her voice tinged with remorse. "I had apologized to Miss. Holiday, and she has already forgiven me," Rachel continued, her tone gaining confidence. "I assure you, I won't repeat this matter."
"I'm so sorry, Nana," Santana said, her genuine remorse evident as she reached out to embrace her grandmother. "It just got out of hand, and we weren't going to stay at Carmen's, we were only going to speak to her."
"We should've left when things were going south, but we didn't," Quinn added, her voice filled with regret.
"We know we scared them half to death, and they made sure we know it every time," Kitty said, unwilling to disclose that she was spanked in front of Rachel.
Nana wrapped Santana in a comforting hug, nodding her head as she assured them that she would help them clean the kitchen and then call their mom to discuss the situation. They all responded with a respectful "yes, ma'am" before starting to clear the table.
Santana took on the task of sweeping, while Kitty diligently washed the dishes. Nana and Quinn collaborated to stow away the leftover food in the refrigerator, while Rachel dutifully took out the trash.
After everyone finished their evening routines and took refreshing showers, Santana decided to call her mom's cellphone to check in and have a nice chat. Santana then kindly passed the phone to Kitty, who eagerly shared her day with her grandma before passing it along to Quinn and Rachel. Nana (Stacey) had a heartwarming conversation with Shelby for a bit, catching up on the latest family news, before passing the phone back to Santana.
Santana made sure to reassure her mom that they were all doing fine and not to worry about them. Shelby appreciated Santana's update and, seeing how well-behaved everyone was, agreed to let them stay up for another hour past their usual bedtime. Santana happily relayed the message to the others and then handed the phone to Rachel, who also had a lovely conversation before finally ending the call.
Nana Stacey then assigned the girls a few light chores to help out around the house before allowing them to unwind and watch a bit of TV. After ensuring that each girl felt loved and cared for, she bid them goodnight with kisses and headed to bed herself.
After finishing the movie Step Up, they made a decision to retire to their respective rooms for the night. Kitty and Santana decided to share a room, while Rachel and Quinn also opted to share a room. Then, they all headed to their rooms to get some sleep.
