Girl meets Boy

Avatar Korra was finishing her fire bending training as she mopped the floors of the other Fire benders as she went to meet her childhood friend, telling him that she had passed the test.

"Minato, I passed my fire-bending test!"

"That's good to hear, but be careful; I just made dinner," Minato prepared Korra, one of his favorites.

"To celebrate me, oh, you should have." Korra smiled.

"Yes, and of course I knew you were going to pass with flying colors." Minato prepped the table.

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"That you're a hothead like a fire bender, stubborn like an earth bender, and scattered brain like a water bender." Minato said.

Korra wasn't upset but smiled. "I take that as a compliment, but seriously, Minato, thank you for being with me."

"No, I should be thanking you for saving my life; if it weren't for you, I would already be frozen to death."

While they were eating, Korra was reminiscing about how she met Minato that day. She remembers that when she was twelve, she sneaked out of her parents' house with Naga and strolled through the night. She was in her rebellious phase, as they say.

While strolling, she spotted a human figure in the snow and quickly arrived at the scene. What she saw was a boy who looked similar to her age and was wearing strange clothes that looked like those that nobles would wear. As an avatar, it was her duty to help those in need.

Her parents were furious knowing their daughter was outside during curfew, but they were glad she was alright and brought a stranger. At first, they were concerned, but it's customary to help those in need, and they accepted the stranger in their home.

Korra was infatuated with the stranger; it wasn't just his clothes; his hair was blue, something that nobody in any nation had. She would take care of him until he awoke, which she did after a few days.

He calls himself Minato Arisato, and he doesn't remember who he is or where he's from. The parents were skeptical, but they doubted it was a lie, knowing nobody was stupid enough to walk on the frozen tundra without proper clothing.

For Korra, he was someone she could be friends with; being the avatar, it was hard to make friends as children feared her ability and didn't understand that she was living a sheltered life.

So begin the life with the two childhood friends. Minato learn more about the world about people with the ability to use the four elements called benders and how the Fire nation started the hundread year war and massacred the air nomads and declared their intention to the world.

Minato felt sicked hearing what the fire Nation did to the Airbenders the commit genocide against of peace loving monks just because they wanted to killed the Avatar.

How Avatar Aang and his bands of misfit friends not only stop the hundred year war but became legend themselves. Katara master of water bending, Toph Bei Fong the greatest earth bender in the world and the creator of metal bending , Prince Zuko whom now is Fire lord Zuko rule the fire nation with dignity and honor and Sokka the funny guy.

For Korra Minato was more like a person who look out after her as he help her with cooking and sewing saying he doesn't want to be a free loader as he also went hunting/ fishing with Tonraq. Sometimes Minato would make food she never seen before and that was Sashimi.

At first they felt repulsive eating raw fish but the introduction of soy sauce and Ginger would change it as Korra the avatar tasted the food and like it thus others follow suit. Everyone like and decided to make Sashimi a delicacy for the southern water tribe.

In just few short years Sashimi became a well-known and popular cuisine in the water tribe and the world as its sister nation the northern water tribe also adopted the cuisine. It became more popular with the introduction of Sushi using rice and raw fish with seaweeds wrap.

They all thank Minato for his help introducing Sushi and Sashimi he also warn them how to be careful when preparing raw fish be wary of parasite.

Minato was truly someone Korra understood as his the only true friend she had, as an Avatar she didn't have friends since she's stuck being monitored by the white Lotus only Naga and Tenzin were closes things to friend.

"You already guess it Tenzin is coming to teach me air bending!" Korra was hype as she finally going to master all four elements.

"That's great you always keep telling me you wanted to Air bend" Minato could see how enthusiasm she is as she could use all bending except air.

"Yeah just like avatar Ang"

" Does that mean you have to shave Bald and be all grumpy like Tenzin" Minato teasing Korra

"No way , I like my hair and I'm not grumpy like Tenzin"

" Achoo"

"What's wrong, Honey?" Pema asked, concerned that her husband might have a cold since their arrival at the South Water Tribe.

"I'm probably catching a cold."

"Well, duh, we were in the frozen south pole, and of course it was cold," Kiki said.

"Or someone talking about him behind his back." Jinnora said.

"Yeah, right, who would want to talk bad to dad?" Meelo said.

'You have no idea' Tenzin had memories of certain metal benders that tried to bury him.

Tenzin did arrive along with his family as Katara Tenzin's mother and Korra greeted her supposed mentor, friend, and uncle figure. But Tenzin had to say the bad news that he couldn't stay and train Korra.

XXX

"This is unreasonable!" Korra stormed inside Minato's quarters while Minato was reading the newspapers, as he wanted to let Korra be alone with Tenzin and his family during dinner. In truth, Tenzin doesn't like Minato or even trusts him. Even the White Lotus, the avatar's bodyguard, didn't trust him at all.

The only people who trust Minato are Tonraq, Senne, and Katarra.

"Let me guess Tenzin had to return to Republic City." It had become a habit that every time Korra was upset or in a bad mood, she would come to his room and unwind.

"How do you know?"

"It's in the papers," Minato said, showing Korra the picture of a masked man. "Republic City is in unrest over the rise of the Equalists, led by this masked revolutionary, Amon." Knowing Tenzin was part of the council, he had his duty.

"Equalist, what's that?"

Minato decided to explain "their anti-benders group that has been formed over the years and how they preach the dangers of benders."

"That's ridiculous. Bending is the coolest thing in the world."

"Not for non-benders like me."

"What do you mean?" Korra was confused.

"Korra Listen to me, the world is divided between the gifted and the normal. You and others are able to bend the elements to your whim and are feared by the powerless. Imagine facing a fire bender that could burn your face and set you on fire, drowning in a water bender, being buried alive by an earth bender, or being suffocated by an air bender.

Korra listening was surprised, but then again, she had been living a sheltered life for too long.

"It's not just that even benders are getting better treatment; their usage is what shapes the world today. For example, fire benders provide electricity to the city."

"I never thought of that; maybe I could do something if I learned airbending first."

"One step at a time, Korra. You may be the Avatar, but you are no miracle worker." Minato knew Korra always wanted to be an Avatar—the Avatar that would bring peace and balance to the world. But she doesn't know the weight of such a title or the responsibility.

"I think it would be better if you decided on your own." Another voice was heard.

"Master Katara!" Minato quickly bowed to the old woman with respect.

"Katara, you heard everything right?" Korra asked.

"I did sometimes forget how Minato is more wise than Tenzin, probably because he is jealous," Katara said.

"Is that a compliment?" Minato said.

"Still, what are you saying?" Korra wanted to know if what she heard was right.

"I know... Aang's time has passed. My brother and many of my friends have passed. It's time for you and your generations to take on the responsibility of keeping peace and balance in the world."

"Thank you" Korra, thank the master.

Knowing what it means, there's no stopping it:" I start packing and don't go anywhere until I'm ready, Korra."

"I won't let it be an avatar for my best friend to be left behind."

"Korra, go and prep Naga. I wanted to have a word with Minato." Katara wanted to have a word with the boy.

"Sure, hurry, please," as the avatar quickly left the room.

"What is Master Katara?" Minato asked.

Katara drops her smile and sighs, "Korra, she reminds me of Aang and how he is still green in the world."

"She's more the type to act first, think second."

Katara chuckled, "True, that is why I entrusted you to look after Korra, not just as a friend but as a family. Being an avatar is a heavy burden, Aang knew, but he still kept smiling. But what I wanted was to thank you for being there for Korra; being around adults and guards made her miss part of her childhood. Something I should have tried. I'm worried she would get caught up in politics and things she isn't ready to face."

"It's not your fault; politics is something very dirty that I know, which is why I will guide and protect her, which is the least I could do."

"Thank you, that's all I asked," Katara said, then pulled something to give Minato.

Minato brought what was needed, including some money, a map, and a passport for both of them. As they were going to be travelling on a ship, Korra was already saying goodbye to her parents, Tonraq and Senne.

"Minato, please watch over Korra beside Tenzin; you're the only person I trust to look after her," Tonraq asked as a father.

"I will, Tonraq."

"Thank you," Minato says, sitting behind Korra and grabbing her waist. "Have you put on some weight?"

"Hahaha, say that again. I bury you in the snow." Korra threatened

The journey was easy, as Minato managed to find a captain willing to take them to Republic City. Minato paid the captain and made sure Naga was on her good behavior. It was quiet on the ship as both of them watched the ocean and slept.

A few days later, Minato woke up and groaned. From inside the cabin, next to him was Korra, who was sleeping.

"Korra," Korra grumbled a little before speaking up.

"Five more minutes." Minato chuckled before waking her up.

"Korra, we're here in Republic City."

Korra rubbed the sleep out of her eyes before noticing where her head was and quickly shooting up. "G-Good! I was getting restless."

He reached into his bag, making sure they had everything. They got on Naga and ran out of the door. "Thanks for the lift, captain!" Korra waved at the captain.

The captain saw the boy, the girl, and the polarbear dog left. "Kids these days are always in a hurry."

Minato was wearing his own set of clothes (the Gakuran uniform), as it felt right to do so.

Minato wrapped his arms around Korra as they ran through the city, looking at the tall buildings and vehicles. They eventually came to the bay, where they saw a giant statue of someone who looked like Tenzin without a goatee holding a staff on a small island.

"Air-bending island," Korra said before looking at Naga. "Ready for a swim, Naga?" Naga sniffed the air before running down the street. "Alright! Food first, then the air temple!"

They ran through traffic and made people jump away as they ran through the street before stopping at a bar-b-que stand. Naga pokes her head in, with Korra doing the same, seeing a woman at the stand.

. "Wait, Naga!" Naga closed her mouth and whined as Korra stepped off and picked up a stick. "We'll take one of everything." She said this as the woman nodded.

"That'll be twenty Yuans."

Korra looked sheepish for a second. "I don't have any." She was cut off by Minato, who stood in front of her.

"Here you go." He said to give her the money. Minato looked back at her and sighed. "What would you do without me, Korra?"

XXX

After getting the food, Minato thought that they should eat in the park.

Later, they were eating meat skewers. "Sometimes I wonder what meat they use?" as he chewed the meat.

"It's better you don't ask too many questions when eating, especially meat." Korra had already finished her skewers and decided to go fishing in the pond to see what the fish in Republic City tasted like.

"Might I get in on some of that food?" They saw a man with greying hair in old, torn clothes.

"Uh, sure," Korra said as the man smiled. He jumped out and took a piece of meat, and Korra cooked a fish with her fire bending. "So... is that your home?" Korra asked, pointing to the bush.

"Yes, that is where I currently call home. It took me quite some time to find a bush of this caliber." He replied, looking at the bush. "This park is popular with all us vagabonds." Korra looked surprised at that.

"Really? I thought everyone in the city was living it up." Korra took a bite from her.

"Every place has its poor places, Korra," Minato said.

"No, surprised every city always has its bad side."

"Hey! Said a police officer in a grey uniform with a billy club. "You can't fish here!" The man jumped into the bush as Korra whistled for Naga.

They got on and dashed away to the other side of the park. As they travelled down the road, they came across a group of people surrounding a man with mutton chops talking on a megaphone.

"Are you tired of the Benders' tyranny?" He yelled through the megaphone. Korra and Minato stopped. "Then join the Equalists!" He continued pointing to a poster of a masked man with a hooded coat on.

"For too long, the Benders have forced us non-benders to live as second-class citizens! Join Amon, and together we'll take down the Bending establishment!"

"Is that what I think it is?" Korra asked, looking at the rally.

"An equalist rally just ignores them, Korra."

"But I should do something."

"Ignore them; it's not your time to do something now. Trust me, you will, but not right now." as they walked away as the rally continued while Korra glared at the person..

Minato and Korra walked down the street beside Naga before stopping at a table where an elderly woman and a younger man sat.

"Excuse me... We're a little lost, could you tell us where Air Temple Island is from here?"

The woman smiled before pointing down the street. "You just go..." She stopped as a red car turned the corner. "You should get out of here. Those are the Triple Threat Triads."

They saw three men get out, and harass the owner of a store before destroying a phonograph he handed them.

They ran over and went behind them. "Hey, creeps." The trio turned to see Korra and Minato staring at them. They started laughing at them before the man in the middle pointed at them.

"It's obvious you two are fresh off the boat so let me clarify some things. You're in Triple Threat Triad territory. And we're about to put you in the hospital."

Korra smirked before punching her left palm. "You're the ones that'll be going to the hospital." The man in the middle reached in his coat and shot a stream of water at them.

Korra caught the water, having it form into a ball, shot it back, and frozen it around the man's head. He stumbled over as Korra lifted her left leg and kicked him into his car's grill. The second man walked up, stomped on the ground, had a mid-sized rock come up, and threw it at Minato. He just pulled out his sword and cut the chuck easily.

Being a non-bender, he needed ways to fight, and that meant learning how to use a sword. The sword belonged to Sokka Katara's brother, whom he thought had lost it, but Toph found it using her seismic sense.

The people around them stared in amazement before the final man shot a stream of fire at him as he rolled out of the way. Korra bent the fire and shot it in the air before kicking the man through a store. The car suddenly passed them and got to the man before Korra stomped on the ground and moved his hands, creating a ramp that made the car jump in the air and crash into a building.

They suddenly heard a siren before looking up and seeing a blimp. "This is the police! Stay where you are."

They saw policemen jump out in grey armour, and metal wire shot out of their wrist gauntlets and attached to the buildings, bringing them down safely.

"Cool. Metal Benders." Korra said as one man stood in front of them, retracting the wires. "We caught the bad guys for you, officers."

"Arrest them!" The officer pointed to the triple threat. "You two are under arrest also."

"What?! Why in the world are you arresting us? We stopped them from hurting the shopkeepers here."

The officer pointed to the damage done to the street and buildings. "It looks like you caused more damage than they did."

"Look, officers, let's just be civil here," Minato is trying to reason.

But none of it, as the police shot his wires at them, only to have Korra grab them. "Hey, wait a minute."

The officer stopped her from explaining. "You can explain down at headquarters." He pulled the wires back before attacking again.

"So much for diplomacy," Minato said, pulling out his sword and cutting the wires that tied Korra.

"Thanks, Minato, as Korra blasted the officer with water, sending him flying." They quickly jumped on Naga and took off down the street, with the police following after using their wires to attach to clothing lines and the surrounding buildings.

Korra and Minato made it to a small bridge just as an officer wrapped a wire around Korra's ponytail.

"Ah!" She brought the water from the river up and froze it as Minato pulled the wire towards them and pulled the officer through the ice, knocking him out and releasing the wire.

They continued to run and ran onto another bridge. They looked down, saw a train running under them, and jumped on it. They rode for a few moments before noticing Air Temple Island and jumping off onto the roof of another building. Only to have wires wrapped around them, and Naga.

Police Headquarters.

"Let me see..."

Minato and Korra were handcuffed to a metal table as a middle-aged woman with greying black hair and two scars across her right cheek looked at a clipboard.

"Destruction of private and public property... not to mention evading arrest." She slammed the clipboard down before continuing. "You two are in a lot of trouble.

Korra explained her justification for action. "Look, criminals were harassing that shopkeeper. We couldn't just stand there and do nothing!"

Lin scoffed before picking up the clipboard and walking to the other end of the table. "You should've called the police and stayed out of the way."

"I couldn't just do nothing. It's my duty to help people. You see, I'm the Avatar."

Lin was unimpressed. "Oh, I know who you are. And your 'Avatar' title might impress other people. But not for me."

Korra sighed, as this was getting nowhere.

"Don't we get at least one phone call? We have rights, you know."

"Yeah, as my friend said, I want to talk to who's in charge." Korra decided on an aggressive approach.

"You're talking to her. I'm Chief Beifong." As she introduced herself.

"Wait, Bei Fong? Lin Bei Fong? You're Toph's daughter." The now-identified Lin raised an eyebrow at her.

"A Bei Fong, I know that name, the one who created the first metal bending, and her daughter, the city of Zaofu, also known as the Metal Clan." Minato knew the Beifong were a very famous family, not from their richest as merchants but from Toph, who created the first metal bending and fought the Fire Nation during the hundred-year war.

Lin's eyes twitched when the word Zaofu was heard. "What about it?" Still, she was impressed by the boy's knowledge; he was probably the most reasonable and smartest one in the group.

"Why are you treating me like a criminal?" Avatar Aang and your mother were friends... They saved the world together."

"That's ancient history. And it's got to dodly squat with what's happening now."

"Of course." No surprise. Just because their parents were friends doesn't mean their children are friends.

"Chief, Councilman Tenzin is here." An officer called her.

Lin sighed before replying. "Let him in."

The door opened up, showing Tenzin, who walked in.

"Tenzin, sorry. I was on my way to see you but got sidetracked. Korra said sheepishly.

Tenzin took a deep breath, turned to Lin, and smiled, "Lin, you're looking radiant as always."

Lin deadpanned at the monk. "Cut the crap, Tenzin. Why is the Avatar in Republic City? I thought you were moving to the South Pole to train her."

Tenzin sighed before explaining. "My relocation has been postponed. But Korra and Minato Arisato will be heading back."

"No, we're not Tenzin. Her parents and your mother gave their blessings for us to come here, whether you like it or not. We're staying." Tenzin glared at him only at Minato, unphased. "Beside that, you can't stop Korra; you know if you send her back, she will just come back again."

Tenzin sighed. Knowing it was true, Korra was stubborn when she put her mind to it.

"If you would be so kind as to drop the charges against Korra, I will take full responsibility for today's regrettable events and cover all the damages." He said

Lin sighed before using metal bending and uncuffing them. "OK. Get them out of here." They walked out of the room.

XXX

Outside in the main lobby, Korra looked at Tenzin and sighed.

"Look, Tenzin. I know you're needed here. I see the reasons why. But Republic City needs me too. And I can't wait for my training any longer."

"You blatantly disobeyed my wishes and the orders of the White Lotus." He said

"Katara agreed with me that I should come. She said, My destiny is in Republic City." Korra argued

"Don't bring my mother into this!" Tenzin said it with anger as his face turned red.

Before Tenzin could talk, an officer walked in with Naga. "Excuse me, miss. Is this your polar bear dog?" Naga licked him, making his hair go into a swirl..

XXX

Air Temple Island.

Air Temple Island is a small isle located off the coast of Republic City in Yue Bay. The island is formally independent of the nearby United Republic, and is under the sole jurisdiction of the new Air Nation.

Tenzin looked at the statue of Aang as Ikki, Jinora, and Meelo flew down on their gliders.

"Korra, Minato. Are you staying?" Jinora asked, folding her glider into a staff.

"Not here." We're going to find a place in the city. We just stopped by to say hi." Minato replied before walking to a ship with Korra. He was grateful that they didn't confiscate everything they had.

"Wait..."

They turned to see Tenzin walking towards them. "I have done my best to guide Republic City towards the dream my father had for it. But you're right. It's fallen out of balance since his passing. And I thought I should put off your training to uphold his legacy. But you're his legacy."

Tenzin puts his hand on her shoulder. "You'll stay here and finish your training. Republic City needs its avatar once again."

Korra cheered before picking up the kids, and Tenzin was up in a hug as Naga rubbed her back. As she went to the female dormitory, she found her room to sleep in for the night and unpacked her things.

Tenzin was having a private talk with a boy whom he didn't trust.

"You already knew from the beginning that I didn't trust you, including the other white Lotus." It was something Tenzin wanted to say, not in front of Korra.

"I'm not that stupid, Tenzin; I already knew you all don't trust me."

Tenzin didn't phase hearing, "But I hate admitting your presence gave Korra something we all couldn't do for her—a normal childhood." As much as he distrusted Minato, he gave Korra something that they couldn't.

"Tell me, Tenzin, why don't you trust me?"

Tenzin pinches his nose. "My sister Kya once visited and saw something in you, and she was so frightened that it almost made her pass out. Since then, I have kept it a secret from anyone about what she saw."

"What did she see?"

"She couldn't remember, but it traumatised her and made us the reason to distrust you, well, except Bumi." Tenzin felt like a migraine was coming.

"I love hearing his old stories; it's fun and educational." Minato and Bumi get along just fine.

"Educational my foot anyway. You already knew about what happened to Tonraq."

Minato nodded. " He explained to me how his recklessness almost destroyed the northern water tribe and he was exiled as punishment. He also promised me to keep quiet about it.

Tenzin knew about it as Tonraq told him years ago: " Korra situation is very complicated and dangerous, just like my father, Avatar Ang, who was chased around the world by the Fire Nation. Fire Lord Ozai knew he was a threat to their conquests and would do anything to capture the last Airbender."

Tenzin put his hand on Minato's shoulder. "That is why I entrusted you to keep watch over Korra; she is still not ready for whatever she's going to face, and she can be very reckless."

"I'll try; it's the least I can do."

XXX

The next day, City Hall.

Minato whispered, 'Tenzin, how the hell did we get ourselves into such a situation?'

' Don't blame me; you and Korra stunt got the entire Republic City's attention'. Tenzin whispered back.

Words are already spreading that the avatar has come to Republic City. Korra, along with Minato, Tenzin, Lin, and Naga, stood in front of reporters at City Hall as they asked her questions. "Um, yes, I am definitely here to stay, but honestly, I don't exactly have a plan yet. See, I'm still in training, but look, all I know is that Avatar Aang meant for this city to be the centre of peace and balance in the world, and I believe we can make his dream a reality." Korra said sincerely, "I look forward to serving you. I'm so happy to be here! Thank you, Republic City!"

"Alright, that's all the questions the Avatar can answer for today." Tenzin said as he rushed Korra off the stage. Minato thought this wasn't good at all. Knowing it was President Raiko's idea to show the world that the avatar was here, it's more like painting a target on your back.

XXX

Unknown location.

A man with a mask that covered all but his mouth and grey armour turned off the radio. "Amon. How do you want to handle this?"

"So, the avatar has arrived early. It looks like we'll have to accelerate our plans."

This is something I have wanted to write for a very long time, as there has never been a persona. In Legend of Korra, Minato has no access to his persona because of amnesia. In time, he would remember and learn to summon his persona. This won't be a serious update; it depends on my mood, and for those interested in the story, PM me.
