Play: Ghost Giant OST – By the Lake

"For the seven days since my arrival…"

"The name Roxas, and the number 13 were all I had"

"Who the people around me were, what they wanted. Or what they were trying to do… I have no idea"

"I'm learning all these things but…. There's so much more that I don't get"

"Such as hearts…"

"Roxas?..."

"Roxas" called a gentle female voice

"..?" A young man with messy blonde hair snapped out of his deep thoughts. He turned to face the dark figure sitting by his side, Xion

"Are you alright, Roxas? You seem lost," said Xion, her voice tinged with concern

"It's nothing… I just… I was thinking" Roxas replied, his gaze distant "Do you ever want to visit what's beyond the horizon?"

"Of course" Xion said with a soft smile "It's something that interests me. To see new sights rather than just the town."

Roxas looked up at the sky, the vast expanse of blue reflecting in his eyes

"Do you think Axel has seen what's outside?" said Roxas

"I sure hope so. I'd love for him to tell us" said Xion, finishing her ice cream and gazing out over the town below

Roxas glanced at his finished ice cream stick and sighed, tossing it into the nearby trash bin

"Do you think we should ask to try other flavors?" said Roxas

"What flavors are there to try?" said Xion curiously

"I don't know… Maybe that vanilla flavor. That sounds appealing" Roxas mused. "Or maybe that lemon pop. Whatever it may be, even if I highly doubt it comes close to sea-salt ice cream"

The two friends sat in companionable silence for a moment, the sunset casting long shadows across Twilight Town

"I wonder what's really out there" Roxas said, breaking the silence "Beyond the horizon, beyond the limits of this town. There must be so much more to see, to experience"

Xion nodded, her eyes shining with a mixture of hope and longing

"Maybe one day we'll find out. Maybe one day we'll get to explore and see it all for ourselves" said Xion

Roxas smiled at her, feeling a spark of excitement at the thought

"Yeah. Maybe one day." Said Roxas

As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow over the town, the two friends sat together, dreaming of the adventures that awaited them beyond the familiar streets of Twilight Town

"let's head back. I think Axel would be annoyed that we had ice cream without him" said Roxas as this got Xion to let out a subtle giggle

"Well I'm sure he'll do something in response" said Xion with a slight giggle

Later

Xion and Roxas noticed Axel standing at their usual meeting spot, seemingly waiting for them. Excitedly, they hurried over to him

"Ah, my favorite two Nobodies" said Axel with a slight chuckle "How was your mission? You two didn't get ice cream without me, did you?"

"The mission went fine" Roxas replied, glancing guiltily at Axel "And, uh, sorry, Axel..."

Axel chuckled, shaking his head

"Whoa, ouch" said Axel playfully. "But it's no worries. I had my own stuff to deal with." Noticing Roxas still seemed a bit guilty, he added, "But I look forward to the next time we hang out. And you're buying. Got it memorized?"

Roxas smiled, his mood lifting

"You got it, Axel" said Roxas

"So, what was your mission?" said Xion curiously

"Can't say" said Axel his tone dropping a bit "Otherwise, I'd get in trouble. But if there's anything I can share, I'll let you both know."

"So, what now?" said Xion glancing between Axel and Roxas

"Well, the boss is nagging me to grab you two as soon as possible" said Axel rolling his eyes slightly. "He wants this extra special thing done and says you two are the best qualified for it. So, I guess he sees something special in you both."

He gestured for them to follow as he led them down a corridor towards an ominous room. The air grew heavier as they approached, a sense of foreboding settling over them

"Boss is in there. He's waiting" said Axel gesturing to the door with his thumb before leaning against the wall and crossing his arms. "Good luck."

Roxas stepped forward, reaching for the door handle. Xion moved to follow, but Axel gently blocked her with his arm

"I'm sorry. He only asked to see Roxas" said Axel seeing the disappointment flash across Xion's face. "Hey, don't take it personally. The boss has done it to plenty of others, including me."

"It's okay, Roxas. Go on" said Xion reassuring him with a small smile

"...Alright" said Roxas taking a deep breath before pushing the door open

Roxas entered the dimly lit room, the air thick with anticipation. At the far end stood Xemnas, the hooded leader, staring intently at a picture on the wall. His presence was imposing, filling the room with a palpable tension

"It's good you have arrived, Roxas" Xemnas said without turning around. "There is... a girl... in the Realm of Darkness."

"But why didn't any of the others go get her?" said Roxas with confusion lacing his voice

Xemnas turned slowly, his eyes piercing through the darkness. "You will understand when you see her. If any others were to attempt it, they'd be greeted with great hostility."

"But who is she?" said Roxas feeling a strange sense of urgency

"Her name is Aqua. She has been there for a while," Xemnas revealed, his voice echoing slightly in the room. "And that is all you need to know."

The name "Aqua" struck a chord within Roxas, sparking a distant memory he couldn't quite grasp. It was as if he knew her, though he couldn't recall from where

"Do not fail me," Xemnas commanded, his tone final. "Now go."

Roxas nodded, determination settling in his eyes. He turned and left the room, rejoining Axel and Xion outside

"What did he say?" said Xion

"We have a new mission," said Roxas with his voice steady. "We're going to the Realm of Darkness. There's someone we need to find in the Realm of Darkness"

"Oh so you're going there huh? I can help you get there. Don't worry" said Axel with a grin

Later

Play: REPULSIVE- Kuromi's lullaby

Roxas and Xion stepped out of the portal and found themselves on a desolate beach. The landscape was surreal, with dark rocks jutting out from the sand under a bright night sky filled with unfamiliar stars. The air was heavy with an eerie stillness, amplifying the sound of the waves crashing against the shore

"So this... is certainly different" said Roxas, his eyes scanning the horizon. The unfamiliarity of the place made him frown, while Xion felt an unsettling unease creeping over her

"Roxas, what exactly do you know about this place? " said Xion as they started walking, her voice tinged with apprehension

"...I know nothing... beyond that it exists" said Roxas, his tone reflecting his uncertainty

They continued their journey in silence, the only sounds being their footsteps and the distant roar of the ocean. The oppressive atmosphere of the Realm of Darkness weighed heavily on them, but they pressed on, determined to find Aqua

"Roxas, who exactly are we looking for?" Said Xion hoping for some clarity about this mysterious girl

"I was told her name is Aqua. I wasn't shown what she looks like" said Roxas "I guess we'll know her when we see her."

As they trekked through the desolate landscape, the name "Aqua" continued to occupy Roxas's mind. It felt strangely familiar, as if it held some deep connection to him that he couldn't quite place

Their path led them away from the beach and into a series of dark, twisted streets. The buildings around them were dilapidated, their shadows stretching ominously in the dim light. Every so often, Roxas would catch glimpses of movement in the corners of his vision, but when he turned to look, there was nothing there

The two continued wandering. With their eyes scanning the shadowy landscape for any sign of their target. Eventually, they spotted Aqua

"…that must be her" Roxas said quietly as Xion nods in response

her form barely distinguishable in the dim light. She moved with a haunted air, her eyes reflecting the despair of years spent in this desolate place

Xion approached Aqua cautiously, her steps deliberate and careful. Aqua seemed lost, her guard visibly weakened by her long exile. Xion knew their orders were to capture her, but she hoped to avoid conflict. She wanted to ask Aqua to come with them peacefully

Xion gives Roxas a look asking him to let her speak first as Roxas nods letting her do so. So Xion then began to approach her

"Excuse me? Can you help me?" Xion called out, her voice soft but steady. Aqua turned abruptly, her eyes wide with a mixture of fear and confusion

"I..." Aqua's voice trailed off, uncertainty flickering across her face as she tried to deduce the situation. She glanced around, sensing another presence nearby even though she couldn't see anyone else

"We hope to bring you with us as we are leaving here" said Xion with her tone sincere and imploring. Aqua's suspicion grew, but there was something genuine about Xion's demeanor that made her pause

Aqua felt a nagging sense of unease about the two of them. She took a few steps back, her instincts kicking in. With a swift motion, she summoned her Keyblade, its ethereal light contrasting sharply with the darkness around them

Xion sighed, regret etched on her face

"I guess we couldn't avoid it. Sorry it has to be this way" said Xion , stepping back as Roxas emerged from the shadows to stand beside her, his Keyblade appearing in his hand. Aqua's eyes widened in surprise at the sight of another Keyblade wielder

A tense silence hung in the air before Roxas made the first move, lunging towards Aqua with impressive speed. Aqua parried his strike, their Keyblades clashing with a burst of sparks. The force of the impact sent a shockwave through the desolate landscape, scattering loose debris

Aqua quickly regained her footing and counterattacked, her movements fluid and precise despite her exhaustion

She launched a powerful spell, forcing Roxas to dodge and roll to the side. He recovered quickly, retaliating with a series of swift, relentless attacks. Aqua blocked each one, but the effort was clearly taking its toll

Xion watched from a distance, her heart aching at the sight of the struggle

As the fight wore on, Aqua's movements began to slow. Her years in the Realm of Darkness had drained her strength, and it was becoming clear she couldn't keep up the pace. Roxas seized the opportunity, pressing his advantage. He executed a powerful combo, driving Aqua back until she was forced to her knees

"Just who are you?" Aqua's voice rang out, filled with urgency and confusion, as she lunged forward, her Keyblade slicing through the air towards Roxas. Despite her determined attack, Roxas skillfully deflected her strikes standing his ground

Aqua's shock was palpable as she beheld Roxas wielding Keyblades, a sense of familiarity tugging at her memories. However, the cloak shrouding his face obscured any chance of recognition, leaving her grasping at elusive fragments of remembrance

Roxas remained silent, his expression hidden beneath the veil of his hood, yet his stance spoke volumes of his readiness for battle

"We won't ask again," Roxas finally spoke, his voice steady and firm. "Come with us and we can talk this out."

The sound of his voice stirred something within Aqua's mind, a faint echo of familiarity dancing at the edges of her consciousness.

With a heavy silence hanging between them, Roxas assumed a defensive stance, his Keyblades poised for battle, knowing full well that Aqua would not yield without a fight

As the clash between Aqua and Roxas intensified, a moment of opportunity presented itself. With a swift and precise strike, Aqua's Keyblade found its mark, catching Roxas off guard and knocking his hood off

As Roxas stumbled back, his hood fell, revealing his face to Aqua. In an instant, her eyes widened in disbelief as she stared at the familiar features before her. Memories flooded her mind, stirring emotions she had long buried. Roxas's face, once obscured by shadow, now bathed in the light of realization, left Aqua stunned. The recognition of his identity sent shockwaves through her, leaving her momentarily frozen in disbelief

For a fleeting moment, time seemed to stand still as Aqua grappled with the revelation before her. The significance of their encounter weighed heavily upon her, the implications of their shared history unraveling before her eyes. Regaining her composure, Aqua stepped back, her Keyblade lowering as she gazed at Roxas with a mixture of astonishment and uncertainty. The revelation of his identity had changed everything

"V-Ventus?..." Aqua stammered, tripping over her words as she struggled to believe what she was seeing

Roxas felt that name was vaguely familiar, but he remained confused. Why did she call him by that name? And why did it resonate with him in an unsettling way?

"No, no… it can't be…I.." Aqua muttered, shaking her head in disbelief. "Ventus…?"

Roxas stood silently, unsure why that name seemed so familiar yet so foreign. The confusion on his face mirrored the turmoil in Aqua's heart

"What are you doing here?" Aqua asked, her eyes tearing up as she struggled to hold back her emotions

"…" Roxas remained silent, unsure how to respond to the overwhelming emotions radiating from her

"…Are you real?" said Aqua, her voice trembling as she lowered her Keyblade, the weight of her words hanging heavily in the air

"…Yes…" Roxas replied, assuming she meant seeing other people in the Realm of Darkness

Without warning, Aqua pulled Roxas into a tight hug. Though surprised, Roxas strangely found comfort in her embrace

"Ventus… I'm so sorry I wasn't able to see you sooner," Aqua sobbed, her voice filled with relief and sorrow. "In fact, I didn't know if I was going to see you at all… Ven, I missed you."

"…Ven?" Roxas repeated curiously, the name echoing in his mind as Xion watched the scene unfold with equal confusion

"…Roxas, why did she call you that?" Xion asked, her voice breaking the tension

"Why did you call him that?" Aqua asked, her confusion deepening

"Because that is his name" Xion replied, her tone firm

"No, it isn't. I know Ventus when I see him!" Aqua insisted, releasing Roxas and taking a step back

Roxas wanted to ask Aqua more questions, but he remembered his orders to bring her to the castle

"Aqua?" Said Roxas getting her attention "Please come with us. We promise you'll be safe when we get out of here."

Aqua hesitated, her eyes searching his face. "Ventus… are you sure?" she asked, her voice filled with uncertainty

Roxas held out his hand, and Aqua reluctantly took it. Together, the three of them stepped through a portal and emerged in a vacant town. Aqua looked around, her unease growing

"Ventus, where are we?" Aqua asked, her voice tinged with suspicion

"That's not important," Roxas replied, his tone firm. "We're almost there."

"I see you two finally fetched her," a voice called out. Aqua turned to see Axel approaching from afar

"!" Aqua exclaimed, her body tensing as she recognized him

"No, it's okay. He's a friend," Roxas said, placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder before she could summon her Keyblade

"Ventus, we have to leave and find Terra," Aqua urged, turning to him with desperation in her eyes. "We can't just stay a—!"

Before she could finish, Axel swiftly chopped the back of her neck. Aqua's eyes widened in shock as she felt her senses slipping away as this both caught Roxas and Xion off guard

"Ventus… don't… leave me…" Aqua whispered, her voice fading as she lost consciousness, reaching out to Roxas before going limp

"Did you have to do that to her?" Roxas asked, his voice tinged with concern as he gently caught her, holding her in his arms

"She'll be fine, Roxas. She'll wake up in a few hours. Got it memorized?" Axel replied casually. "Besides, I highly doubt you want to have another complicated fight with her."

Roxas then picked up Aqua in his arms bridal style as Xion watched , a strange feeling stirring within her. Was it jealousy? She couldn't be sure. As they made their way to the castle

Roxas looked at her face. She seemed so familiar but he just couldn't understand why. Yet she spoke to him like she knows him. Sure the organization needs her for something

But maybe he would be able to find answers through it

Later

"…I see you brought her here. There's a room to put her there for the time being," said Saix, crossing his arms and giving them a stern look. "I have a mission for you three shortly," he added before turning on his heel and walking past them, his long coat trailing behind

"You heard him. Let's go," said Axel, motioning for the others to follow him. Roxas and Xion exchanged glances before they started down the dimly lit hallway toward the designated room

Roxas noticed Xion's troubled expression and slowed his pace to walk beside her

"Xion? Is something wrong?" Roxas asked softly, concern evident in his eyes

Xion hesitated for a moment before speaking

"…It's just… do you think she is going to be okay? With what will happen to her then?" said Xion as her voice tinged with worry as she glanced at the unconscious Aqua, being carried carefully between them

Axel, sensing the weight of the conversation, tried to steer them away from it. "You guys don't need to worry about her. Just continue on and we'll be fine," he said with a forced casualness, hoping to deflect their concerns

"But Axel, don't you think what we are doing is wrong?" said Roxas, unable to shake the uneasy feeling gnawing at him

Axel stopped and turned to face them, his expression serious

"It's not worth the trouble to talk about it. It's going to make things complicated. Got it memorized?" he said, his voice firm but not unkind

"Okay…" Roxas murmured, still feeling conflicted but not wanting to argue further. He glanced at Aqua's peaceful, sleeping face, feeling a strange sense of familiarity that he couldn't quite place

They reached the room, and Axel opened the door, revealing a small, sparsely furnished space. Roxas carefully laid Aqua down on the bed, making sure she was comfortable. He lingered for a moment, staring at her with a mix of curiosity and concern

"Let's go, guys," Axel said, breaking the silence as he turned to leave. Xion followed, but Roxas hesitated, his eyes still fixed on Aqua's serene face. Something about her presence tugged at his memory, but he couldn't grasp what it was

"C'mon," Axel said more gently this time, placing a hand on Roxas's shoulder and giving him a slight pull. Roxas nodded, tearing his gaze away from Aqua and following Axel out of the room

As they walked back down the hallway, Roxas couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to Aqua than they understood. He wanted to ask Axel and Xion more questions, bu their situation kept him silent

They reached the main hall where Saix was waiting, his eyes cold and calculating. "Your next mission is of utmost importance. Do not fail," he commanded, his voice echoing through the chamber "There is a troublesome lizard I need you to get rid of. In Twilight Town…"

Later

"Alright, the Veil Lizard is known to be elusive," Axel said, his tone serious but with a hint of his usual laid-back demeanor. "We need to split up and cover more ground. Stay in touch."

Xion nodded, her expression determined

"Got it. Let's start searching." Said Xion

Roxas agreed, and they each headed in different directions, blending into the crowd of townsfolk going about their evening routines. Roxas wandered through Market Street, his eyes sharp and alert. He turned a corner and found himself in the Tram Common area, where the tram was just starting its evening rounds

As he walked past the tram station, Roxas suddenly felt a strange sensation wash over him. His vision blurred, and he stumbled slightly, reaching out to steady himself against a nearby wall. Images flashed before his eyes—vague, fleeting memories that weren't his own once again

He saw himself… or as least he thinks is himself. Whom Aqaua called Ventus, laughing with friends on a beach. The scene shifted, and now he saw another boy, this one with brown hair like his own, standing in a grand hall filled with stained glass windows.

"Ventus... Sora…" Roxas whispered, the name surfacing from the depths of his mind

"Roxas! Are you alright?" Xion's voice broke through the haze, pulling him back to the present. She was standing in front of him, her face etched with concern

Roxas shook his head, trying to clear the lingering images

"Yeah, I'm fine. Just... saw something weird." Said Roxas

"Weird like what?" Axel joined them, his eyes narrowing with curiosity.

"I... I'm not sure. Memories, I think. But they weren't mine," Roxas explained, still feeling disoriented. "One of them was a boy named Ventus, and the other... I think his name was Sora."

Axel exchanged a worried glance with Xion

"That's strange. But don't it distract you, as you are here for the lizard" said Axel

"Maybe," said Roxas, though he felt there was more to it. He looked around, trying to refocus on their mission

They continued their search, moving through the alleyways and quieter parts of Twilight Town

The town's usual serene atmosphere seemed almost too quiet, making every sound more pronounced. Roxas's keen eyes scanned their surroundings as Roxas then took notice

"Wait... there," Roxas said, gesturing for Xion and Axel to look. He pointed to the roof of a nearby building where a few suspicious footprints glowed faintly in the dimming light

"Good eye, Roxas," said Xion, summoning her Keyblade and readying herself. Axel, ever the quick thinker, summoned his chakrams and launched one towards the footprints. The spinning weapon whizzed through the air, grazing something barely visible before returning to Axel's hand. The Veil Lizard, partially exposed, scrambled away, its camouflage flickering

"There it goes!" Xion exclaimed as the three of them sprang into action, summoning their Keyblades and giving chase

The Veil Lizard darted towards the outskirts of town, its form blending into the environment. Though it was harder to see, the glowing footprints it left behind were enough to guide Roxas, Xion, and Axel through the winding streets and into the dense forest

As they ran, Roxas felt a strange sensation, as if he had done this before. Vague memories surfaced in his mind—images of Sora, and his two animal friends were chasing after something in a similar manner. He saw flashes of a lush jungle, an arid desert, and a dark forest, but he couldn't place any of them. Shaking his head to clear the confusion, he refocused on the task at hand

The Veil Lizard led them through the dense underbrush, making sharp turns and sudden leaps in an attempt to lose its pursuers. However, Roxas's determination, coupled with the steady support of Axel and Xion, kept them on the creature's trail. The forest grew thicker, the trees taller, and the shadows longer as they pressed on

Finally, the Veil Lizard came to a halt in front of the old mansion's gate, its camouflage failing completely as it prepared to stand its ground. The mansion loomed ominously in the background, its windows dark and foreboding

"Looks like it wants to fight now," said Axel with a hint of amusement in his voice as he twirled his chakrams and got into his battle stance. Roxas and Xion followed suit, their Keyblades at the ready

The Veil Lizard hissed menacingly, its form now fully visible. It was larger than they had anticipated, with glowing eyes and razor-sharp claws. Without warning, it lunged at them, its claws swiping through the air

Roxas met the attack head-on, blocking the claws with his Keyblade and pushing the lizard back. "Stay focused!" he called out, moving to the side to flank the creature

Xion darted in from the other side, her Keyblade flashing as she delivered a series of quick strikes. The lizard hissed in pain but retaliated with a powerful tail swipe, knocking her back. Axel caught her before she could hit the ground, and the two quickly regrouped

"Let's try a coordinated attack" said Axel "I'll distract it while you two go for its legs."

Roxas and Xion nodded, and Axel charged forward, launching his chakrams at the lizard. The spinning weapons distracted the creature, drawing its attention away from Roxas and Xion, who darted in from opposite sides

Roxas swung his Keyblade low, aiming for the lizard's legs, while Xion did the same from the other side. Their blades connected, cutting deep into the creature's limbs. The Veil Lizard roared in pain, its movements becoming sluggish

"Now, finish it!" Axel shouted, summoning a fiery aura around his chakrams. He threw them with all his might, the weapons trailing flames as they sliced through the air and struck the lizard squarely in the chest

Roxas and Xion combined their strength, delivering a final, powerful strike that sent the Veil Lizard crashing to the ground. The creature writhed for a moment before going still, its body dissipating into darkness

Breathing heavily, the trio lowered their weapons, the adrenaline slowly fading

"Nice work, team," said Axel a proud smile on his face. "That was one tough lizard."

"Yeah" said Roxas agreeing as he glances at the spot where the lizard had fallen "But we did it."

As they turned to leave, Roxas couldn't help but look back at the mansion. The vague memories of Sora, Donald, and Goofy still lingered in his mind, but he pushed them aside for now

"Come on, guys. Time for the 'icing on the cake.' I know you two love it," said Axel, a playful grin spreading across his face

Xion and Roxas exchanged glances and smiled, the thought of their favorite treat bringing a sense of normalcy and comfort

"We've got time to spare, so why not use it?" Said Axel

A little later, they found themselves sitting atop the clock tower, looking out over the twinkling lights of Twilight Town. The cool breeze ruffled their hair as they unwrapped their sea salt ice creams. Xion took a moment to savor the unique blend of salty and sweet

As she glanced at Axel and Roxas, a wave of contentment washed over her. She wanted to freeze this moment in time, to stay here forever with her friends. Her gaze lingered on Roxas, his innocent smile making her heart ache with an unfamiliar longing. She noticed his hand resting on the platform they all sat on and felt an urge to reach out and hold it tightly

"Hey, Xion?" Roxas's voice broke through her thoughts, pulling her back to the present

"Yes?" Said Xion, quickly regaining her composure

"Don't you want to stay here forever?" Roxas asked, his smile radiating a childlike innocence

Before Xion could respond, Axel chimed in with a chuckle. "Heh. You two will learn that staying in one place can get boring eventually."

Roxas and Xion turned their attention to Axel, curiosity piqued. "Without something to occupy your time, you won't have the drive to enjoy the free time as much"

"I guess you're right, Axel," Roxas said, a thoughtful expression crossing his face. "But I hope this lasts long either way."

Unbeknownst to Roxas, Xion had inched closer to him, her shoulder now brushing against his. She found comfort in his presence, a sense of belonging that made the chaos in her mind feel more bearable

The trio continued to chat and enjoy their ice cream as the stars began to dot the night sky. Laughter and lighthearted banter filled the air, each moment weaving a stronger bond between them. But as the night deepened, a sense of duty began to tug at the back of their minds

Axel was the first to break the comfortable silence that had settled over them. "Alright, guys. Time to head back to base. We've got work to do tomorrow."

Xion and Roxas nodded in agreement, though a hint of reluctance lingered in their eyes. They stood up, taking one last look at the town below, committing the peaceful scene to memory

Back at the base

Play: Ghost Giant OST – The Cemetery

Roxas stood alongside Axel and Xion, ready to report their success. Yet, a gnawing feeling tugged at him, an inexplicable urge to see Aqua once more. As his companions prepared to leave, Roxas hesitated

"You guys go on ahead. I'll see you two in a little bit," he said, his voice trailing off as his thoughts drifted.

Axel raised an eyebrow but didn't argue. "…If you say so, Roxas. Come on, Xion."

Xion cast a worried glance back at Roxas. She opened her mouth to speak, but Axel's reassuring hand on her shoulder silenced her. She nodded reluctantly, allowing herself to be guided away

Roxas watched them disappear down the hallway before turning in the opposite direction. Each step felt heavier as he approached the room where Aqua lay unconscious. A sudden flash of faces, blurred yet oddly familiar, flickered in his mind, making him pause. He shook his head, dispelling the images, and pushed open the door

The room was quiet, save for the rhythmic beeping of the monitoring equipment. Aqua's still form lay on the bed, her face serene despite the ordeal she'd endured. Roxas approached slowly, a mix of curiosity and anxiety swirling within him

"I hope… you can tell me more about myself as this… Ventus," Roxas murmured, his voice barely audible. As he spoke, a torrent of memories not his own flooded his mind—glimpses of Aqua and a boy with spiky blonde hair, scenes of camaraderie and battles fought side by side

He closed his eyes, trying to piece together the fragments. Suddenly, he was no longer in the dimly lit room but in a sunlit meadow. Ahead of him, Aqua and a young man with brown hair laughed and talked animatedly. The scene was so vivid, so real, that Roxas could almost hear their voices

The warmth of the sun, the scent of blooming flowers, and the sound of their laughter filled him with a sense of belonging that felt foreign yet deeply ingrained. As quickly as it had come, the vision faded, leaving him standing alone in the room with Aqua

"Aqua... but who was the other man?" Roxas whispered to himself, confusion and longing mingling in his heart. The warmth he'd felt didn't belong to him, a part of him that remained just out of reach

Reluctantly, Roxas turned to leave, determined to rejoin Axel and Xion. He stepped into the hallway, his thoughts a whirlwind of emotions and unanswered questions. As he walked, a voice, cold and authoritative, cut through the silence

"Roxas," the voice called

Roxas turned to see Saïx standing in the shadows, his expression unreadable. "You are needed," Saïx said, his tone leaving no room for argument

"Of course," said Roxas, casting one last glance toward the room where Aqua lay. His mind lingered on the mysterious memories and the questions they raised. With a sigh, he followed Saïx into the darkness, the pull of his past and the weight of his present intertwining as he walked away

To Xion a bit later

Xion wondered where Roxas could have gone. She also still wondered what else could be on his mind. Though she had a hunch that it was similar to her own, the uncertainty gnawed at her

As she walked through the familiar hallway, she realized it was all she had ever known for as long as she could remember. The cold, unchanging walls seemed to echo her own sense of entrapment. Suddenly, a sharp pain pierced through her head, causing her to gasp

"!" Xion exclaimed, clutching her head as she dropped to her knees

Images of Sora with his friends flashed through her mind, vivid and overwhelming. She saw his laughter, his determination, and the bond he shared with those around him. The memories felt strangely intimate, as if they were her own

"…that boy… why does he remind me so much of Roxas?..." Xion whispered to herself as the pain subsided. She slowly got back on her feet, her thoughts racing. She remembered how Aqua had clearly recognized Roxas, a realization that filled her with a sense of urgency. If anyone could help her understand these confusing memories, it may be Aqua for more direct answers

Determined, Xion made her way to the room where Aqua was held. She knew Aqua would wake up soon, and she had to ask her about her potential connection with Roxas. As she approached the room, she noticed it was occupied. Her heart skipped a beat, and she instinctively hid in the shadows to avoid being seen. If anyone discovered her intentions, she feared they might turn her into a Dusk, or worse

Peeking from her hiding spot, Xion saw couple figures inside the room. They were discussing something in hushed tones, their expressions serious. She strained to hear their conversation, hoping to gather any information

"Bring her to where nothing gathers" said the Organization member as the two of then picked her up and began to head out.

Xion secretly watched as two members brought an unconscious Aqua into the white room. Her heart pounded with worry, a storm of doubts and fears brewing inside her. She questioned her own judgment—should she have allowed this to happen? As she peered through the crack in the door, her eyes widened in shock upon seeing Axel among the group

"Axel?" she whispered to herself, disbelief etched on her face. She couldn't bear the thought that he might be involved in this sinister act. Desperately, she searched the room for any sign of Roxas, hoping against hope that he would never agree to something so cruel

Her attention snapped back to the scene inside. The egg capsule lay open, a cold, sterile cocoon awaiting its victim. The members handled Aqua with an unexpected gentleness, placing her into the capsule where she floated in a state of suspended animation. The sight of her, so vulnerable and still, sent a shiver down Xion's spine

"Start the process," commanded a voice that made Xion's blood run cold. She recognized it immediately—Saïx. The sound of the capsule closing, sealing Aqua within, was almost too much for her to bear. She watched as the members turned to leave, their footsteps echoing in the sterile, white room

But then, as if by magic, Axel was no longer there. Xion blinked, her mind racing. She was certain he had been there just moments ago. Was her reality beginning to unravel? She ducked behind a pillar, her breathing shallow, as she watched the others disappear down the corridor

Xion's mind was a whirlwind of confusion and dread. She felt an urgent need to stop whatever dark plan was unfolding before her eyes, but she was paralyzed by uncertainty. Could she risk seeking out Roxas, or would that only lead to more danger for both of them?

Torn between the urge to act and the fear of making things worse, Xion crouched in the shadows, wrestling with her thoughts. She couldn't shake the feeling that time was slipping away, that every second brought Aqua closer to an unknown fate. She clenched her fists, steeling herself for whatever lay ahead

Taking a deep breath, she decided she couldn't stay hidden forever. Whether she had allies or not, she knew she had to find a way to intervene. She knew she may disappear for this

The memories she has been having. It felt so real to her. She didn't want to leave Aqua to the fate that may be similar to her own as once she knew

Once Xion deduced the coast was clear, she sprinted down the sterile, white hallway to a door that stood out starkly against the monotony. She entered the room and immediately spotted the capsule in the center, its transparent surface showing the outline of Aqua inside. Her heart raced as she pressed a button on the console. The capsule began to open with a mechanical hiss

As the lid lifted, Aqua, still in suspended animation, slowly floated down. Xion hurried to support her as she began to wake up

"Huh?...what happened?...where's Ven—" murmured Aqua, her voice weak and disoriented

"Shh. I'm getting you out of here," Xion whispered urgently "Can you walk?"

"I... I don't think I can yet," said Aqua, her legs trembling as she tried to stand "But where is Ventus?... we have to find him"

"We will. Just hold on" said Xion quietly

Xion supported Aqua as they made their way down the hallway, her eyes constantly scanning for any sign of danger. They moved as quickly as Aqua's weakened state would allow, but their progress was slow. Just as they reached a junction, a familiar and chilling voice echoed through the corridor

"Well, well, well. It malfunctioned once again," said Saïx, stepping into view. His cold eyes bore into Xion as more Organization members began to appear from the shadows, forming a semicircle around the girls

Xion's heart sank as she saw not just Saïx, but also Axel and Roxas among the group. While the others looked as composed as ever, the conflicted body language of Axel and Roxas caught her attention. But the most terrifying presence was that of Xemnas, standing calmly at the back, exuding an aura of command

Saïx and several other members were about to advance when Xemnas raised his hand, signaling them to stand down

"Hand her over, puppet. And we won't have to destroy you," Saïx commanded, his voice dripping with menace

Xion shook her head defiantly and summoned her Keyblade

"Tsk tsk. It does it again. And surely always will," Saïx said with a slight annoyance, snapping his fingers. "You know what to do, Riku."

A hooded figure stepped forward and removed his hood, revealing Riku's familiar face. His expression was conflicted, but he summoned his Keyblade and assumed a battle stance

Xion and Riku faced each other, the tension in the air thick enough to cut with a Keyblade. Xion's grip tightened on her weapon as she braced for Riku's attack

With a burst of speed, Riku dashed forward, his Keyblade slicing through the air with deadly precision. Xion parried his strike, their blades clashing with a shower of sparks. The force of the impact sent a shockwave through the corridor, but Xion held her ground

Riku pressed the attack, his movements fluid and relentless. He struck high and low, aiming to overwhelm Xion with a flurry of blows. Xion blocked and dodged, her own strikes countering Riku's with equal intensity

Xion found an opening and swung her Keyblade in a wide arc, aiming for Riku's side. He deftly sidestepped, countering with a quick thrust that Xion barely managed to deflect. She spun around, her Keyblade coming down in a powerful overhead strike. Riku raised his weapon just in time, their blades locking together in a fierce struggle for dominance

With a sudden burst of strength, Riku broke the deadlock and knocked Xion's Keyblade aside. He followed up with a swift kick to her midsection, sending her stumbling back. Gasping for breath, Xion steadied herself and raised her Keyblade once more

But Riku was relentless. He advanced again, his strikes coming faster and harder. Xion blocked and parried as best she could, but her movements were slowing. Each clash of their blades sapped her strength, and she could feel exhaustion setting in

"We can't afford to rake any more chances on you. You were a mistake we shouldn't have made"

Saix's hurtful words echoed in her mind as her grip tightened around her Keyblade, her resolve unwavering as she stood in defense of the injured Aqua. The dim light of the dimly lit chamber reflected off her keyblade casting an eerie glow across the scene. Aqua, struggling to remain conscious, leaned against a nearby pillar, her breaths labored

"You can't do this to her! I won't let you!" Xion's voice echoed through the chamber, filled with determination and defiance

Xemnas, the leader of Organization XIII, loomed over them with an air of menace, his yellow eyes narrowed in displeasure.

"You dare defy… me? Defy us?" His voice rumbled like distant thunder, sending a shiver down Xion's spine

Feeling the weight of the situation, Xion glanced towards Roxas, silently pleading for his support. Roxas met her gaze, his blue eyes reflecting the turmoil within him. Beside him, Axel shifted uncomfortably, torn between loyalty to his comrades and the bond he shared with Roxas

As tensions reached a boiling point, another figure stepped forward from the shadows. It was Riku, his expression unreadable as he heeded Xemnas's command. With a flick of his wrist, he summoned the dark Oblivion Keyblade

Roxas knew he couldn't stand idly by and watch as Xion and Aqua faced certain doom. With a surge of determination, he summoned his own Keyblade, the Oathkeeper, its radiant glow contrasting against the darkness that surrounded them

As Riku dashed forward, his blade poised to strike, Roxas intercepted his attack with swift precision, the clash of Keyblades ringing out through the chamber. Riku's surprise was evident, his momentum momentarily halted by Roxas's unexpected intervention

Xion and Aqua felt slight relief

"So Sora… couldn't help yourself now can you?" Said Riku

"Get real! How about we'll see which one of us will win!" Said Roxas in a different voice. He then realized what he said and put his hand over his mouth in shock

"…did I just say that?" thought Roxas to himself as Riku looked intrigued at what Roxas said

He then summons a dark keyblade

"You know what to do" said Xenmas

Riku's silver hair glinted under the dim light of the twilight as he stood, Keyblade in hand, eyes narrowed Roxas stood his ground, Dual Keyblades, Oathkeeper and Oblivion, at the ready. Behind Roxas, Xion and Aqua watched anxiously, knowing they were powerless to stop the confrontation

Riku lunged first, his Keyblade striking out with precision. Roxas parried the blow, their blades clashing with a resounding clang. The force of their collision sent shockwaves through the air

"You can't protect them, Roxas!" Riku growled, pressing his attack. "This is for your own good."

Roxas gritted his teeth, blocking another series of strikes. "I won't let you take them!"

As they fought, Roxas's vision flickered, memories not his own flashing before his eyes. He saw Sora, laughing with his friends on Destiny Islands. Then another memory, this one of Ventus, standing beside Aqua and Terra, a warm smile on his face

Distracted by the memories, Roxas barely managed to block a powerful strike from Riku, the impact sending him skidding backwards. Riku advanced relentlessly, his movements swift and decisive. Roxas countered with a flurry of strikes, his Keyblades moving in a blur. Yet Riku was able to dodge most

Another memory surged into Roxas's mind: Sora, standing tall against countless Heartless, Keyblade held high. Then, Ventus, facing off against Vanitas with unwavering resolve. The images stirred something deep within Roxas, a connection to a greater purpose

Those two names carry within his mind. He just couldn't understand

But Riku pressed on, his strikes growing fiercer. Roxas, struggling to maintain his defense, felt his strength waning. In a desperate move, Riku disarmed him, one of Roxas's Keyblades flying from his grasp. Riku's Keyblade hovered just inches from Roxas's chest

"This ends now" said Riku

Before Riku could strike the final blow, Xion acted on instinct. "No!" she cried, her hands glowing with teleportation magic. A portal of swirling darkness opened behind her

Riku's eyes widened in surprise, and he reached out as if to stop her. But it was too late. Xion grabbed Roxas's arm, and Aqua, seeing no other choice, stepped into the portal as well. In a flash, the three of them were engulfed by the darkness

Riku stood there, his Keyblade lowering, frustration and regret etched on his face. The portal closed, leaving him and Xemnas shocked

"…..how fascinating" said Xenmas thinking gaining Riku's attention "It appears the girl has gotten far away once again… but not for long.."

Xenmas then summons a portal of his own and walks in as Riku follows

Meanwhile

"Mutant signatures detected. Identities unknown," announced the robotic voice, its tone devoid of emotion

Two blurry images flickered onto the computer screen, displaying Roxas and Xion in different locations. Their faces were covered by their hoods indistinct, but their presence was undeniable

"Strange…" murmured a bald man in a wheelchair, his eyes narrowing in concentration as he studied the images

"What is it, Professor?" asked a young woman with striking red hair, her concern evident in her voice as she approached the screen

"I am detecting a couple of mutants," Professor Charles Xavier replied, his tone measured and thoughtful. "But I cannot lock onto their identities nor their minds. I can only ascertain their locations."

"But that's impossible!" exclaimed the red-haired girl, Jean Grey. "It's not like they could have just appeared out of thin air."

Xavier sighed, a look of deep contemplation crossing his face. "While Cerebro can detect the identities of most mutants, there are always anomalies. Some mutants possess abilities that allow them to remain under the radar, either due to the nature of their powers or a lack of records. However, what intrigues me more is my inability to access their minds."

Jean furrowed her brow, her mind racing with possibilities. "Do you think it's some kind of shielding ability? Or maybe they're using technology to block telepathy?"

Xavier shook his head slightly. "It's hard to say. Telepathic shielding and cloaking technology are rare, but not unheard of. Yet, this feels different. It's as if they are entirely out of reach, not just shielded."

Jean looked back at the screen, her instincts telling her something significant was at play. "Then we should head over quickly before they disappear. We can't afford to lose track of them."

"Indeed," Xavier agreed, wheeling away from the computer. "Get the jet ready. We need to investigate this immediately."

"But what if it's a trap?" Jean asked, her voice laced with concern as she followed him. "We could be walking into an ambush."

Xavier paused and turned to face her, his expression calm but resolute. "We don't leave any mutant behind, Jean, especially if they are in need of help. Have faith. We will proceed with caution."

Jean nodded reluctantly, though her mind was still racing with doubts and concerns. She knew the professor's instincts were usually right, but something about this felt off. Despite her reservations, she trusted Xavier implicitly and began to prepare

Meanwhile….

In a dimly lit chamber, filled with maps, monitors, and various artifacts, a man sits in a high-backed chair, shrouded in shadow. The air hums with anticipation as he focuses his mind, extending his consciousness outward to feel the tremors of new mutant activity

"There are two... Both powerful in their own right, but one... Charles will have sensed them too…." He said ominously

He waves a hand, and a monitor flickers to profiles to see zero data om either of them

"Both have clear power they aren't showing… but the boy… is more powerful.."

He stands, moving to a shelf filled with ancient books and modern devices, a testament to his long life and accumulated knowledge. He retrieves a small, unmarked device and activates it, causing a holographic map of Bayville to hover in the air

"Xavier will likely focus in the closer one first….""

A wry smile crosses his face as he turns off the holographic map. He moves with purpose, each step echoing his resolve

"Yes, the boy it is…."

As the shrouded man then began to take flight into the night sky

To Roxas

Roxas reached out both his hands to Xion and Aqua, desperately trying to hold onto them as a powerful force threatened to pull them all apart. His vision became increasingly hazy, filled with cities and places he didn't recognize. The world around him swirled in a dizzying array of colors and shapes

"VENTUS!" yelled Aqua, her voice filled with panic and determination

"ROXAS!" cried Xion, her voice echoing through his mind as he felt himself being dragged away.

Those voices resonated in Roxas's head as he felt himself falling, tumbling through an endless void. His vision continued to warp and distort until he hit the ground with a heavy thud. Dazed, he slowly pushed himself up and looked around, taking in the unfamiliar setting

It was night, the sky casting an eerie glow over an industrial cityscape. The air was heavy with the scent of metal and machinery, and distant sirens wailed in the background. Roxas's eyes caught a sign nearby, partially illuminated by a flickering streetlight

"…Welcome to… New Jersey?…" said Roxas reading aloud, confusion filling his mind. He had never heard of this place. He glanced around, searching for Xion and Aqua, but they were nowhere to be seen. Panic began to rise in his chest as he struggled to comprehend what had happened

Just what had happened?

Unbeknownst to him, shadowy figures began to rise from the ground, their monstrous forms obscured by the darkness. More of them appeared, their eyes glinting malevolently as they watched him. Roxas sensed the ominous presence of these creatures approaching and instinctively summoned both his Keyblades

Gleaming in the dim light, Roxas lunged forward, his blades slicing through the shadows with precision. With a mighty leap, he soared into the air, Oathkeeper and Oblivion trailing arcs of light and shadow behind him. He unleashed a flurry of strikes on the shadow creatures, each blow resonating with power.

The shadows faltered, their ranks thinning under Roxas's relentless assault. With a final, decisive strike, he vanquished the last of them, his Keyblades pulsing with power. The area fell silent once more, the only sound being Roxas's heavy breathing. He lowered his weapons, scanning the surroundings for any remaining threats.

When there weren't any visible ones left. Roxas decided for follow the road to walk to what seemed to be a busy city where the further he got. He didn't seem to notice a figure floating through the air seemingly tailing him

Despite the apparent calm, Roxas couldn't shake the feeling of being watched. His senses heightened, he called out,

"…Who's there?" said Roxas looking g around to where the watcher could be

A man in dark red armor slowly descended towards him, the sight of him causing Roxas to tense. The man moved with an air of authority and power, his presence commanding attention

"You don't need to worry…" the man said as he reached the ground. "I have come only to help."

"….Really?" Roxas replied, skepticism evident in his voice. He tightened his grip on his Keyblades, ready to defend himself if necessary

The figure nodded, his expression calm and composed

"Yes. My name is Magneto, and I want to offer you a chance… for sanctuary."

Roxas eyed him warily, trying to gauge his intentions. He knew nothing of this man, but he was in an unfamiliar place with no allies in sight. The offer of help, even from a stranger, was tempting. After a moment of hesitation, he cautiously extended his hand, accepting Magneto's offer

"Tell me your name boy" said Magneto

"It's Roxas" said Roxas

Meanwhile

Xion found herself standing in an endless void of darkness. Shadows danced around her, and the cold air sent shivers down her spine. In the distance, she saw a familiar figure – Roxas. Relief washed over her, but it was short-lived as she noticed him walking away, heading deeper into the forest

"Roxas! Wait!" Xion cried out, her voice echoing in the emptiness. She started running after him, her feet barely making contact with the ground. "Please, don't leave me!"

Roxas didn't stop. His figure grew smaller and smaller as he continued to walk away, seemingly oblivious to her desperate pleas. Panic surged through Xion as she pushed herself to run faster, but no matter how hard she tried, the distance between them only seemed to grow

"Roxas! Come back!" Her voice broke, tears streaming down her face. She reached out her hand, trying to grasp his, but he was just out of reach. The darkness around her thickened, and she felt it closing in on her, suffocating and relentless

"Roxas, please!" she sobbed, her legs giving way as she collapsed to the ground, unable to go any further. She watched helplessly as Roxas disappeared into the darkness, leaving her alone and frightened

WAKE UP

"Roxas…. Please don't leave… Roxas…." Muttered Xion with her eyes closed yearning for Roxas to be close

Xion's heart raced as the blare of the car horns jolted her senses awake. Startled, she blinked rapidly, trying to make sense of her surroundings. It was then that she realized she was standing in the midst of a bustling street, cars whizzing dangerously close to her. Panic surged through her veins as a vehicle swerved violently to avoid hitting her

"Off the road, bozo!" yelled a frustrated driver, their voice laced with irritation as they maneuvered around her, narrowly avoiding a collision

Feeling disoriented, Xion instinctively began weaving her way through the maze of vehicles, her heart pounding in her chest. Where were Roxas and Aqua? She scanned the chaotic scene, searching desperately for any sign of her companions, Axel, and Aqua but they were nowhere to be seen

As she stumbled onto the safety of the sidewalk, she couldn't shake the feeling of being watched. Passersby cast curious glances in her direction, their eyes lingering on her with a mixture of concern and intrigue

Suddenly, a voice broke through the cacophony of the street, drawing Xion's attention. She turned to see a man in a wheelchair accompanied by a young woman with striking red hair. Their presence was unexpected, yet strangely comforting

"Greetings," the man spoke with a calm authority, his voice soothing amidst the chaos. And a shiny bald head "I am Professor Charles Xavier, but you may call me Professor X. I sense the confusion you may have, but rest assured, you are safe with us. We offer sanctuary for individuals like yourself, blessed with unique gifts."

Xion's brows furrowed in bewilderment as she struggled to comprehend the situation. Gifts? What did he mean?

"My... gifts?" she echoed, her voice trembling with uncertainty. She had never heard anyone refer to her abilities as gifts. After all. She is a nobody

The red-haired woman, Jean Grey, nodded reassuringly. "Yes, your gifts. Trust me, I've been in your shoes, and with the professor's guidance, I've learned to harness my abilities."

Xion's mind whirled with questions, but she found herself drawn to their offer of help. Yet, a nagging worry gnawed at her thoughts. Where were Roxas and Aqua? Despite her unease, she couldn't deny the sincerity in the professor and Jean's eyes

"But... who are you?" Xion's voice quivered taking a slight step back

Jean smiled warmly, her presence exuding a sense of comfort. "My name is Jean Grey. Please, let us help you."

A sense of relief washed over Xion as she considered their offer. Though uncertainty lingered, she felt a glimmer of hope flicker within her. With a hesitant smile, she nodded, gratitude shining in her eyes.

"...thank you," she whispered softly.. as Xavier held out his hand to her and she then takes it as they lead her into the blackbird to fly away

"So tell me young miss, what is your name?" said Professor X

"…It's Xion" said Xion

"Well, welcome aboard Xion. I hope you will feel at ease from here on" said Professor X as Xion looks through the window to see the bustling city below her

For all her life she has only seen Twilight Town. But this. Is so much more different. More industrial. More big

"Xion-" said Jean as Professor X put his hand on her shoulder

"Let her rest for now Jean. We can ask her everything when we get back" said Professor X

"Ok… but what about the other mutant?" said Jean with worry as Professor X shook his head

"…I'm afraid he's off the radar now. But. I have sinking feeling. Whoever that person is. We will see them soon. But how we do is what I am unsure of" said Professor X

"Should we got looking?" said Jean

"Not at this time. I'm afraid we have done all that we can tonight" said Professor X

Trivia

1: there had been two different stories that inspired this fic. "You were Ventus, once" by The Weakest Of Links and "Blank Slate" by DrWriter21. Go give those stories a read plz. As both of them are the biggest inspiration for how I wanted to write

Even of the both of them don't seem active anymore. Their talent shines greatly as obviously I can't write as good as either of them

2: The story is named after my personal favorite Jack Stauber song "Dinner is Not Over"

3: for the longest time. I have wanted to do a Roxas fic. But I never really figured out how exactly to tell the beginning. As to me. If there is no beginning with a somewhat grounded explanation on how one different franchises crosses with another. It's not as fun

And its less fun when characters automatically know who each other are without an explanation. Unless it's established to be an AU of course.

Characters learning about each other from scratch is a joy. But that's just my personal opinion and obviously I'm not your boss, so no worries if you think otherwise.

4: I consider Rogue to be best girl of Evolution. And for Kingdom Hearts. It's a tie between Xion and Aqua. Once again. My opinion, don't have to agree if you don't

5: My first exposure to Kingdom Hearts was when I was still in elementary school and my older sister gave me her Kingdom Hearts Manga. It was the 2nd book I believe. And I became a fan shortly after. Granted Roxas has always been my favorite character

6: Special thanks to one of my closest friends. Theallaroundnerd For allowing me to take him as a captiv- I MEAN WILLING! Yes. Willing, audience for me to babble about my writing.

If you like Spiderman I highly recommend reading his stuff. He'd appreciate it a lot as I point the totally not eye damaging flashlight at him.

7: for context. I consider this chapter to take place maybe about at most before the actual Xmen Evolution starts. So don't worry. The interactions of fun will start to happen within the next chapter

So uh… maybe leave a review of you are interested in seeing this continuing more often, or critique me anything is welcome

So see yall then
