Chapter 1: Love, Death, and Clones

Prologue Arc: Dying Republic

"Breathe. Just, breathe."

*Inhale* *Exhale*

"Listen to the Force. Trust it, let it guide you."

*Inhale* *Exhale*

"Allow it to show you your path. To bring balance, to bring peace to the galaxy, to help the weak, and protect your loved ones."

*Inhale* *Exhale*

"Never allow mere politicians to tell you what is right or wrong. Make your own judgment. Always look forward and make decisions for the future, even if it feels undesirable initially.,"

*Inhale* *Exhale*

"As a Jedi Knight, you will eventually make difficult decisions. On one hand, peace is sometimes an option to resolve an issue. However, if it is not,"

*Inhale* *Exhale*

"You must strike!"

The young man opened his eyes. Igniting his green lightsaber, he twirled quickly and blocked a blue blade aimed to strike him down. Utilizing his superior strength, the young man pushed his opponent's blade to the floor but didn't consider his opponent's free hand. He let out a gasp as a force push sent him sliding backward across the room. In retaliation as he slid, he pulled the carpet the man was standing on towards him, causing his opponent to stumble backwards.

Regaining their stance, the two opponents stared each other down, both glaring and ready to continue their duel. The young man wore dark brown Jedi robes while the old man wore an elegant and custom-made brown tunic and cloak.

"Oh, this again? Can't you boys fight outside instead of damaging the property?"

Both men turned to the room entrance, where a smirking woman stood with her arms crossed. She was a blonde, light-skinned woman wearing a gray shirt underneath a gray leather jacket, black pants, and brown boots. A pair of goggles adorn her neck area and she had black gloves on her hands.

"Fenryr? I trust everything's going well?" The young man's opponent asked.

"Well Count Dooku, if you must know, the staff is doing their jobs just fine. They're just paranoid that you both will destroy a room because of your duels…again."

"That's what they assume." An annoyed Dooku responded. "Most of the damage came from young Baylan Skoll."

Baylan looked at Count Dooku, feeling betrayed by his statement.

Fenryr laughed at Baylan's reaction.

"Big guy can get a little clumsy. Anyways milord, everything's all ready."

"Is that so?" Dooku turned to Baylan who started stretching his back. "Are you ready Baylan?"

"2 weeks to survive in the wilderness with no supplies? Sure, who wouldn't be excited?" Said the young man sarcastically.

"Glad you share my sentiment." The ex-Jedi Master replied. He began walking out of the room. "I'll wait for you outside."

Both Baylan and Fenryr stood silently, waiting for the Count to leave. Once they were sure he was gone, the woman approached the Jedi Knight and hugged him.

"Promise me you'll be okay?" Fenryr said, burying her face on the man's chest. In response, Baylan kissed the top of her head.

"A little wilderness survival isn't going to put me down." He assured her.

"I know, but I missed you so much. You're always at Coruscant at the Jedi Temple."

"Trust me." Baylan pulled back and looked at Fenryr's eyes. "No matter what, I'll always be there. I intend to try to change the Jedi Order, but I will leave if I can't."

She hugged the man again. Baylan's arms found their way around Fenryr, giving her comfort.

"I missed this." Fenryr said.

"So do I my love."

30 minutes later

"For two weeks, you are to survive in the wilderness without any supplies or weapons," Dooku instructed in front of Baylan who stood near the entrance to a forest. "What you need, the forests will provide. Serenno is the home of an ancient dragon species called the Tirra'Taka who users of the Dark Side once used in battle."

"You mean like the one you captured and killed when you were younger?" Baylan questioned.

"The very same. Few still live, and one lives somewhere within this very forest. Let the force guide you. Kill it and bring its head here."

Baylan turned to look at the forest. He took a deep breath and smiled.

"That's certainly a challenge. I won't ask for an easier test. 2 weeks, I will return with success."

"I expect nothing more." Dooku said, proud of his student. "Once you've completed this test, I can teach you no more. I will refer you to Master Qui-Gon Jinn to teach you more. As you know, he is my old Padawan whom I've taught everything I know. He can teach you more where I cannot."

The young man stood silently, almost like he was hesitating.

"You have doubts Baylan Skoll?"

"No, I'm just thinking of the future."

He walked forward and did not look back until he disappeared from Dooku's view. The Count stared at where Baylan disappeared to, a smile still on his face.

"Will he be okay?" Dooku glanced to his right where Fenryr stepped up next to him. "I mean, I'm not doubting Baylan's strength, but I shouldn't be worried, should I?"

Dooku laughed in amusement.

"Young Baylan will succeed. I have no doubts." He commented. For once, the ex-Jedi Councilmember dreamed. This time, he dreamed of a Jedi Order led by an older Baylan Skoll. The thought of it brought him joy he had not felt in so long.

2 Weeks Later

"This is an excellent tea," Dooku said after sipping from a teacup. He was sitting on a chair near the forest entrance with some guards, servants, and Fenryr. The latter was pacing back and forth near the table nervously. "My regards to your mother for suggesting this to me."

"Thank you milord." Said a maid nearby.

The Count took another sip and his eyes wandered to the nervous Fenryr.

"My dear, if you had any confidence in young Baylan Skoll, you would be sitting here drinking tea with me."

"It's been two weeks and he's not back yet." Fenryr muttered to herself. "What if something's wrong? I knew I should've smuggled a blaster to him at least. No, maybe I should've gone with him."

Dooku rolled his eyes at the woman's antics.

"A woman madly in love milord." Said his butler, an elderly gentleman who couldn't help but stare at Fenryr. "From my observation, Padawan Skoll also shares the same feelings."

"I agree. However, do keep in mind that this should be kept between us. The Jedi Order does not permit such attachments and we do not want to ruin Baylan's career before he could do anything meaningful."

"Duly noted milord."

Outside Fenryr's rambling, the group of people fell into silence with Dooku enjoying his tea. He listened to Fenryr attentively and thought back to when Baylan Skoll begged the Council to learn from the Count of Serenno. Master Windu initially denied him, but the Council reversed its decision after Baylan found supporters in Masters Yoda, Oppo Rancisis, Eeth Koth, Yaddle, and Plo Koon. Their reasoning was with Baylan's Master, Sifo-Dyas, rarely present to teach him after he was expelled from the Jedi Council, Baylan needed a Master at least temporarily. The expulsion of his Master was a sensitive topic for the young man, so Dooku refrained from mentioning his childhood friend during Baylan's time training in Serenno.

Dooku grew up with Sifo-Dyas. They knew how each other thought, and it was the main reason why Master Yoda in particular supported the decision.

"Hmmm, perhaps this test was too hard for young Baylan Skoll?" Dooku said, obviously to tease the worried woman. In response, she started talking to herself faster much to the amusement of everyone present.

"On the contrary, it wasn't something I couldn't handle." Answered a voice from the forest. There, standing like he went through hell and back, was Baylan Skoll himself. His body was dirtied and scratched. The shirt he first wore was now gone, replaced with the pelt of a spine-wolf. Everything else remained the same aside from tears here and there with a lot of dirt and dried blood. "I came bearing gifts."

Baylan raised one hand and slowly behind him, a giant dragon skull floated in the air. He guided the skull with the Force and landed it gently in front of the Count. Behind the young Jedi, a pack of spine-wolves appeared and stood by him but oddly, none of them looked aggressive. The appearance of the spine-wolves caused the servants to back away in alarm, but the undeterred Fenryr threw herself at Baylan.

"YOU'RE ALIVE!" She shouted, hugging the Padawan tightly.

"Was there any doubt?" He said confidently. "It was difficult, I won't lie, but I had the Force to guide me."

"That you did." Dooku was staring at the skull before looking at Baylan, beaming with pride. "You are ready young Baylan Skoll. The Jedi Council may have issues with your beliefs, but I believe you will have the power to change them for the better."

Fenryr let go of Baylan, allowing him to bow towards the ex-Jedi Master.

"Thank you Master. I look forward to learning more from your former student."

"Certainly." Dooku stood up and turned to walk towards his palace. "Come, we shall make preparations for our departure. With luck, we shall arrive when Qui-Gon Jinn finishes with his mission to Naboo."

The young Jedi watch Count Dooku and his entourage leave along with their supplies, the table, and the chairs. He looked down to see the blonde-haired woman still holding onto him.

"Fenryr, we should head back to the palace."

"Hmmm, I don't wanna."

Baylan looked around and spotted the spine-wolf pack he was with retreating to the forest. At the moment, the couple were all alone.

"Alright then, we can stay here for a bit."

Acclamator-class Assault Ship Leveler

Baylan looked down on his datapad, thinking of his past. On it was a picture of himself and Fenryr before he left with Count Dooku to Coruscant. They were happy, and he thought of leaving the Order then and there just to be with her. Dooku however, convinced him otherwise and that he had a greater purpose.

The thought of Count Dooku disappointed him. His grievances with the Jedi Order and the Republic had merit, but he just wished that the old man had the strength to use Qui-Gon's death to bring positive changes, not starting a Civil War. He had not been able to contact Fenryr and he has seen so much unnecessary death. Baylan silently swore that he would ask questions once they had Dooku in custody.

*Knock Knock*

"General, are you ready?"

He looked at the door of his room before turning off his datapad.

"I'm just about done."

Baylan dropped the datapad and stood up from his bed. The Jedi checked himself for anything out of place. He was wearing a dark-brown Jedi tunic but had armor protecting his arms and legs. At the other end of the room was a mirror, allowing him to check his clean-shaven face after eating his breakfast the hour before. His right hand moved to his belt and was satisfied to feel his trusty lightsaber still hooked up.

Finding everything to be where it should be, the Jedi made his way to the door and opened it. On the other side, a red-themed Clone Captain with a BARC helmet was toying with his datapad and looked up at his imposing commander who stood around 8 cm higher than him.

"Everything alright General?"

Baylan looked around both ways of the hall. It was mostly full of Clone Troopers, officers, and other crew members walking along to fulfill their tasks.

"Just thinking of the past," Baylan muttered. He left the room and began walking down the hallway with the Clone Captain.

"If you want to talk to someone sir, you do have the medical personnel. Or you can talk to me, sir. I won't judge."

"I appreciate the offer, Captain Fordo." The Jedi smiled at the Clone. "I'll think about it."

"Thank you, sir."

The duo continued with their walk in silence until they came upon the bridge of the Leveler. At the holotable was an officer along with another Clone Captain. More people were present but as holograms and consisted of Republic Naval officers and two Jedi.

"Ah, Master Skoll. Glad to see you've joined." One of the Jedi said.

"Master Soon Bayts." Baylan answered as he and Fordo approached the holotable. "I was disappointed that you would not join us in GEOCOM's first mission."

"It was unfortunate timing, but the Council asked me to return to Coruscant for a special mission." The Jedi Master looked around at the people involved with the operation. This operation was of utmost importance, not just because this was the first large-scale operation for the recently formed Galactic Elite Operations Command, or GEOCOM, but the outcome of this operation could shape the rest of the war. "As you all know, a week ago a group of Separatists decided to defect and join the Republic. Politicians, Military Officers, and most importantly, a member of Separatist Intelligence. Specifically, Count Dooku's agent and his representative in their intelligence agency. Republic Intelligence monitored the situation, but thought at first it was a ruse. That is, until we learned the defectors have hijacked a Munificent-class Frigate which crashed on a remote area of the planet Charros IV. Intel has been monitoring frantic Sep Fleet movements, presumably in search of this Frigate. However, we've detected a fleet appearing around Charros IV an hour after the Munificent crashed and both the Admiralty and the Chancellor have agreed that this is worth looking into.

Due to units under GEOCOM being assigned multiple missions, the Jedi Council has asked Master Rahm Kota and his militia to assist. While I am absent for this operation, I entrust you all to take orders from Master Kota for ground operations, and Admiral Adar Tallon for Naval operations. I now yield the floor to the Admiral."

The hologram of a young Admiral stepped forward and spoke up.

"I understand why there is some confusion as to why some of my officers are here for the meeting, but I can assure you that they are the ones to have drawn up this plan." Tallon pointed at the holograms of several officers. "Vice Admiral Osvald Teshik and Captains Voss Parck, Josef Grunger, and Octavian Grant believe a distraction would be necessary to get past the Separatist Fleet. Despite reports that these warships were most likely commanded by the late Admiral Dua Ningo, the Admiralty suggested a single point of attack directed at the enemy's lone Lucrehulk. I agree that this was suicidal, so they've revolved the plan around two factors, speed and preservation."

A hologram of a planet with red dots symbolizing the CIS fleet appeared on the holotable.

"Phase 1. Myself and 10 Venators will drop out of hyperspace at an area designated as Sector Hotel. It is the closest sector to the crash site but also where the majority of the Sep Fleet is positioned. We'll keep their fleet busy while the second strike force, led by Vice Admiral Teshik along with 3 Venators, General Kota's 3 CR90s, and the Leveler, will drop in at Sector Delta where the Sep Fleet is the thinnest. My fleet will inflict as much damage as possible which hopefully will draw the ships away from Sector Delta, and allow Vice Admiral Teshik's task force to rescue the defectors with little resistance. Just in case, the Admiralty has deployed the Victory Fleet led by Vice Admiral Terrinald Screed and Commander Jan Dodonna as reinforcements."

"I could've sworn that Screed was transferred to command the Coruscant Home Fleet." Master Rahm Kota spoke up. "He should be recovering. Not fighting another battle where he could barely stand up straight."

"It was a personal request," Tallon responded. "When he heard that survivors of Admiral Dua Ningo's command survived, he sent a request to the Admiralty and Chancellor Palpatine to fight alongside his friend one more time and to exact revenge for his injuries. I and many others disagree, but a compromise is made that he could command the reinforcements."

"Tch, stubborn hawk-bat." The officer muttered from across the table.

"Have words to say about a Republic hero, Captain Pellaeon?" asked Vice Admiral Teshik.

"I know Screed. Even if both the Chancellor and the Admiralty denied him, he'd hire a bunch of mercenaries to bring him to battle. This is Terrinald Screed we are talking about. The man would fight to the bitter end and then some." Responded the Captain of the Leveler.

"We will emerge victorious, that I can promise," Tallon said. "Gentlemen, this mission will define the rest of this war. To your stations. You're all dismissed."

The holograms vanished the exception of Master Soon Bayts. Captain Pellaeon and Fordo left to relay orders leaving behind Baylan and a blue-themed Clone Captain.

"What is it Alpha?" Baylan asked the Clone who clearly looked uneasy.

"Something just doesn't feel right sir." The Arc Trooper responded. "Call me paranoid after Jabiim, but I got a gut feeling that the Seppies want us to come."

"I wholeheartedly agree." Said the Jedi Master before Baylan could speak up. "I suspect Admiral Tallon believes it as well, but this mission cannot be aborted regardless."

"Perhaps there are reinforcements that can be spared?" The Jedi Knight asked.

"The Tenacious, Audacity, and Guardian just finished off a pirate base near Kashyyyk so they should be ready for battle once I give them the call."

"Any help would be appreciated Master."

Bayts nodded at Baylan.

"I have high confidence in GEOCOM. Get this mission done, and I'll recommend you for the rank of Master. May the Force be with you."

Baylan didn't even get a chance to say anything when the holofeed disconnected. He stood frozen in place as Alpha looked at the Jedi amusingly.

"So, Master huh? Does that mean you'll have to look after some blasted kid?"

He shook his head out of stupor and walked towards the front of the bridge with Alpha in tow.

"Force help me, I'm not ready to teach a child yet."

"Cheer up. Kenobi and I had to deal with Skywalker of all people." Alpha teased. "Maybe your future Padawan will be lethargic and have that dry booger nose."

"Alpha I am trying really hard not to throw you out of the ship."

"Whoa, teetering into that Dark Side you Jedi speak of I see. Gotta admit, you'd look better in darker clothing and a red lightsaber. With how the Jedi have that no relationship rule, you've gotta be pent up eh? We're going to have a bunch of little Baylan Skolls running around here in the future."

"My friend, they won't find your body."

Space above Charros IV

The planet of Charros IV was, for the most part, unknown to most people in the galaxy. It didn't have much historical significance and was largely uninvolved in the war aside from a few skirmishes here and there. That changed, however, when a Separatist fleet showed up and create a blockade on the planet. A single Lucrehulk with 2 Providence-class Carrier/Destroyers, 3 Munificent-class Frigates, and 3 Recusant-class Light Destroyers guarded one sector while another was guarded by a single Providence, 3 Munificents, and 2 Recusants. Such a fleet would give trouble to any attackers and give the idea that a major operation was going on.

Suddenly, a fleet of 10 Venators with entire groups of ARC-170s and BTL-B Y-Wing bombers dropped out of hyperspace. The 3 Munificents and 3 Recusants of the larger group of Separatist warships were the closest to respond and charged forward as the 2 Providences and the lone Lucrehulk started deploying starfighters.

"Admiral Tallon to all fleet elements, begin Phase 1." Admiral Tallon announced from the bridge of the Loyalty.

"Copy that. Initiating Phase 1." He heard Captain Grunger respond. At once, the three most forward Venators turned hard to port while maneuvering to show the bottom of their ships to the incoming Separatists. Tallon had heard of the Marg Sabl Maneuver that was invented by the Padawan Ahsoka Tano during the Battle of Ryloth. Since then, he had wanted to test it on the battlefield and finally, he found his chance.

Afterwards, two Venators positioned themselves facing the gaps between the 3 Venators as the Munificents and Recusants began their attack. A hail of turbolasers slammed into the underbelly of the three Venators, causing the warships to shake from the punishing fire. Fortunately, their shields held and Y-Wings began flying out of their hangers.

Meanwhile, the two Venators behind the gaps used the opportunity to pour fire into the incoming Recusants. They received no returning fire, allowing them to concentrate on the Light Destroyers.

With the main CIS starfighters still behind and the capital ships still moving into position, Admiral Tallon's fleet tore apart the smaller CIS warships with impunity. The Munificents could barely hang on as barrage after barrage of proton torpedoes destroyed vital systems and the warships began breaking apart. Focused on the first three Venators, the two Recusants held on longer but began to falter from the turbolasers of the Venators. On fire from stem to stern, one of the Recusants lost power and began to drift. The other however, became the focus of the Y-Wings after they were done with the Munificents and received enough fire to destroy a Lucrehulk. The unfortunate warship buckled under the intense fire before its reactor gave away. A bright flash from the middle of the warship and one of the pride of the Separatist Navy was reduced to smoldering debris.

Admiral Tallon's attention was on the rest of the Separatist Fleet. No matter who the commander was, whether organic or not, the capital ship could never stand up to 10 Venators. He smiled when he spotted the other ships of the CIS Fleet abandon their positions to engage him.

"Excellent. Alert Vice Admiral Teshik to begin Phase 2." He called out. Immediately, the Comms officer relayed the orders.

Venator-class Star Destroyer Strikefast

Teshik watched as his fleet exited hyperspace. To his satisfaction, the CIS warships in his sector had left their positions to engage Admiral Tallon, leaving the arid planet wide open for him.

"All ships, full speed ahead!" He ordered. 3 Venators, 1 Acclamator, and 3 CR90s flew forward towards the planet. From the hangers, V-Wings flew out to join the Y-Wings and ARC-170s in guarding the fleet. "I want all gunners and pilots to stay vigilant. We don't know what the Seps have down there but I want everyone to be ready."

His fleet pushed forward towards the planet. It appeared as if the plan was going smoothly, but a gut feeling told him something was wrong.

"Scan the sector." Teshik ordered, getting the attention of the bridge's crew.

"Sir?" asked the Sensor Officer. "We've already scanned the sector as soon as we jumped in."

"Do it again." The Vice Admiral turned to the officer. "Do it thoroughly."

"Yessir."

Teshik's anxiety never wavered, even when he received a report that the CIS ships from his sector were now fully engaging Tallon's fleet. One would think it would be much harder than this.

"Sir, sensors have detected 6 Munificent-class Frigates at the planet's surface." The Sensors Officer called out. Teshik nodded at the Clone officer and then turned to Captain Parck who walked up next to him.

"What do you think Captain Parck?"

"3 Venators can deal with the Frigates. I just feel like something's off." The young Captain replied.

"I agree. This was had taught me that no plan survives first contact. It's too easy."

The planet got closer and closer, and it almost seemed home-free, until alarms blared followed by shouts from the Sensors Officer.

"Sir! Multiple contacts exiting hyperspace right before us!"

"Sithspit!" Park cursed at the sight of CIS warships appearing before them. He counted 7 Munificents and 1 Providence blocking their path. However, his commander stayed calm and analyzed the situation.

"I want all units to maintain formation!" Teshik ordered. "Protect the Leveler at all costs!"

"Sir that can't be General Grievous could it?" Park asked, eyeing the modified Providence pointing straight at one of their Venators.

"I want a scan on that Providence." He ordered. "Give me a name on that ship!"

It didn't take long before they scanned the Providence and got a name.

"Sir, the scanners have identified the Providence as the Colicoid Swarm." An Ensign informed them.

Teshik said nothing and seemed lost in his own thoughts, even when turbolaser batteries started firing and their starfighters engaged Droid Starfighters attacking the fleet. He didn't even react as Captain Parck as giving out orders and attempted to get his attention.

"Sir? Are you alright?" Parck asked, shaking Teshik's shoulder. The Vice Admiral turned his head and looked at the Captain.

"The Separatists sent one of their better warships, but not Grievous nor the Invisible Hand. If our defectors are that important, why didn't they send their best?"

Parck shook his head.

"Sir, we can worry about this later. The entire Sep Fleet is bearing down on us!"

Teshik looked back at the enemy fleet and spotted an opportunity.

"Captain Parck, do you see what I see?" He asked, pointing at the Colicoid Swarm.

"Um, the Providence sir?"

"Yes, the Separatists sloppily exited hyperspace. They're in a loose formation and it just so happens that the Colicoid Swarm has no ships behind her."

Parck caught on to what his commander was saying.

"Destroying her would provide a gap in their formation big enough for Leveler and General Kota's CR90s to get through."

"Unfortunately, our 3 Venators would have to stay behind and deal with these frigates." Both fell in silence, knowing during that time, Captain Pellaeon would be alone to deal with 6 Munificents. Not great odds.

"I'll order 4 Y-Wing squadrons to assist the Leveler."

The Admiral nodded at the Captain.

"See that you do Captain." He turned back to the battle going on in front of him as Parck walked away to relay orders. Despite what appeared to be the trap before him, a gut feeling told him something else.

"And Captain?" Parck turned back to the Vice Admiral. "Contact High Command that we're on Case Red. I want Vice Admiral Screed's Fleet and all available units to converge on our position without delay."

Republic High Command

Coruscant

"This is ridiculous Master Windu, I should be over there helping GEOCOM. Not over here preparing to babysit a Senator." Master Soon Bayts said, letting out his frustration while walking down the hallways of the Republic Military Headquarters. Besides him, Master Mace Windu did his best to try and calm the Commander of GEOCOM.

"Calm yourself, I know you wished to lead GEOCOM and personally trained everyone, the Council came to an agreement that we need someone we could trust to protect Senator Organa." Windu replied.

"Nobody else was available? Master Hett? Master Fisto? Master Tapal?"

"Everyone is currently engaged, you should know this by now."

The GEOCOM Commander grumbled at his predicament.

"At least let me stay here for a bit in case my command has an emergency before I go."

Both stopped in their tracks when they noticed Republic Naval officers began running in a frenzy. They looked around before Windu reached his hand out and stopped a young Captain who was about to run past them.

"Captain, what's going on?"

"Generals," The Captain composed himself. "We received a Case Red Emergency."

"From who?" Bayts questioned.

"From Vice Admiral Osvald Teshik sirs, followed by another from Admiral Adar Tallon. Sorry sir, I need to go get my ship prepared." He said before sprinting down the hall.

Both Windu and Bates looked at each other, alarmed, and then ran as fast as they could to the command centre. On arrival, they found the room in a flurry of activity with officers running around to carry out orders. In the middle of the room where a holotable sat, showing a hologram of a space battle, the highest ranking Admiral on sight was busy coordinating the Navy.

"Admiral Tarkin." Windu spoke up as they approached the table.

"General Windu, General Bayts, a pleasure to have both of you here." The Admiral replied.

"What's the situation?" Bayts demanded. He could see a hologram map showing Republic warships in blue were heavily outnumbered by Separatist warships in red.

"We received a Case Red Emergency from Vice Admiral Teshik on Charros IV followed by a second from Admiral Tallon. Tallon's fleet initially succeeded in drawing away a considerable number of enemy warships, until another fleet jumped in as reinforcements."

"A trap." Windu commented. He crossed his arms and rubbed his chin. "They wanted us to pursue the defectors and inflict as much damage on our ships as possible."

"What reinforcements could we muster?" The GEOCOM Commander asked.

"Vice Admiral Screed and his fleet of 8 Victory-class Star Destroyers will reinforce Teshik's fleet momentarily. I've contacted Commodore Edmon Rampart and his 3 Venators and he will arrive within the hour. Recent reports have also indicated more Separatist Fleet movements in the direction of Charros IV."

"Is that all?" Windu asked.

"I was contemplating redirecting General Tsui Choi and his 3 Venators to assist, but that would delay reinforcements in Kashyyyk. There is concern that the Separatists could launch an invasion." Tarkin responded. "Whatever the case is, General Skoll and General Kota must get to the planet and rescue the defectors before more enemy ships arrive."

The Jedi looked at each other and silently nodded.

"Very well Admiral. Contact Master Choi and alert his fleet of the situation." Bayts said.

Tarkin turned to a nearby Captain and issued his orders. Other high-ranking officers and the two Jedi Masters continued watching the hologram.

Alright, Baylan. Show them why I chose you. The GEOCOM Jedi Master thought to himself.

Above Charros IV

Teshik quietly muttered to himself, talking to himself about possible outcomes and how to either achieve them or avoid them. The Strikefast flew towards the Colicoid Swarm. When the Providence singled out the Venator Electrum, Teshik immediately ordered the Leveler and the CR90s to stay behind the targeted Star Destroyer while the Strikefast and Guarlara moved to engage.

"Prepare for broadsides!" Teshik yelled. Parck repeated the orders, ensuring that everyone heard them. While the Strikefast flew towards the Colicoid Swarm's starboard, the Guarlara flew to their port side, sandwiching the Providence between the two Venators while the Electrum bombarded its bow.

The ship shook as the Separatist warship immediately opened fire when the ship's Captain realized their predicament.

"Fire! All batteries fire!" The Vice Admiral roared.

In unison, all batteries on the starboard side rained a hail of turbolasers on the great warship. Its shields buckled under the unrelenting fire from 3 Venators. Teshik looked around to ensure the safety of the bridge crew and found everyone had braced themselves for safety as the ship shuddered from the return fire.

The Munificents understood the threat posed if the Providence fell and turned to engage the Republic fleet, but it was all in vain as the shields on the Colicoid Swarm fell as explosions dotted the hull. A lucky shot from the Electrum found its mark and hit the bridge of the Providence head-on. Bigger explosions rocked the Colicoid Swarm as lasers started penetrating the hull and destroying its interior.

Like all warships, there's only so much punishing fire one could take. The reactor of the Colicoid Swarm could hold on no longer. A massive explosion from the interior of the Providence tore the warship apart. Republic crewmen braced themselves as burning wreckage from what used to be the Colicoid Swarm slammed into the hulls of their warships. When it was over, Osvald Teshik decided to announce their victory.

"Vice Admiral Osvald Teshik to all Republic units, Colicoid Swarm has been destroyed." He said in the open coms so both Republic and Separatist forces could hear the news. His victory spread like wildfire back at the Republic High Command and soon, the galaxy would learn that one of General Grievous' feared warships had fallen. Cheers rang out throughout his warship. "Leveler, the path is wide open. Head to the planet's surface while we deal with the rest of the ships."

"Roger that Strikefast. We're moving in." Teshik heard Pellaeon's voice in the coms.

"Hard to starboard. Hard Over!" The Vice Admiral ordered. "Guarlara, Electrum, follow our lead. We'll hit the enemy's flank, circle around, and then engage their other flank."

As the Leveler and the CR90s sped to the planet's surface, the three Venators turned hard to starboard and began pummeling the Munificents. The other Munificents raced to engage but were out of range for their turbolasers. Both Electrum and Guarlara concentrated on the nearest Munificent, reducing it into a flaming wreck in no time.

"Sir!" Teshik turned away from the viewports and turned to the Sensory Officer. "I'm detecting multiple contacts exiting hyperspace. They're not ours!"

He looked to the side viewports and immediately, another fleet of Separatist warships appeared in their sector. The red-headed Vice Admiral frowned when he spotted the center of the Separatist formation. Two Bulwark-class Battleships. Survivors from Admiral Dua Ningo's Bulwark Fleet. More than enough to deal with his three Venators.

"Blast it all. I want all ships to get past those Munificents immediately!" He roared. "Contact Admiral Screed. We need those reinforcements yesterday!"

Acclamator-class Assault Ship Leveler

"Sir, we're breaking cloud cover. Sensors are detecting unknown signatures near the crash site."

"I want all fighters and bombers in the air right now. Keep our Transports on standby until I give the command." Pellaeon ordered, not turning away from the viewport. Unlike most Acclamators, the Leveler had been redesignated as a Carrier under GEOCOM. It carried a multitude of ARC-170s, Y-Wings, and V-Wings plus the few LAATs and the lone ETA-2 Actis-class Interceptor on board. Due to its designation as a Carrier reserved for Special Forces units, it carried less Clone Troopers. As a result, the Leveler had extra space to add additional armaments, giving it 16 Quad Turbolaser turrets, 32 Point-Defense Light Laser Cannons, and 8 Heavy Missile/Torpedo launch Tubes. Combining its weaponry and its starfighter wing, the Leveler was most certainly the Republic's most powerful Acclamator and arguably more powerful than a standard Munificent. The warship also had an illustrious career, receiving 18 Battle Stars, third most in the entire Republic Navy behind the destroyed Resolute's 20 and the destroyed Negotiator's 19.

Outside, the Leveler's starfighters were in the air and maintained a protective screen around the warship. Everyone was on edge as it was GEOCOM's first mission and they were in Separatist territory. Captain Pellaeon was as well, but he did not show it. He was their Captain for many battles and he was to remain fearless, even against overwhelming odds.

"Oh, blast." Pellaeon muttered. The moment they broke cloud cover, they were met with a sight that put fear in many of them. In the distance, they spotted 6 Munificents approaching the area of the crash site.

"Orders sir?" Asked an officer. Pellaeon said nothing and immediately ran to the holotable at the rear of the bridge.

"Get me Kota, Skoll, Alpha, Fordo, and Boss!" He ordered. In unison, the holograms of the men appeared.

"Saw that Clanker fleet." Alpha said. "Doesn't look too bad."

"I suppose you have an idea, Captain Pellaeon?" Master Kota asked, ignoring Alpha's comment.

"I do. General Kota, your militia are trained in boarding enemy warships, correct?"

Kota grinned.

"You've done your homework I see. Indeed, we are. You want us to board one of the Munificents and blow it up?"

"In layman's terms," The Captain pressed a few buttons and the hologram of the Munificents showed up. Three of them hovered above the crash site but the other three were getting into formation, pointing towards the Leveler. "We still need the majority of your Militia to help secure the crash site. I'm highlighting the Munificent on the right of their forward task force as TANGO-3 as your target."

"Easy enough." Kota commented. "What about the others?"

"Munificent on the left I'm designating as TANGO-1. I'm assigning Captain Fordo and his squad to destroy that heap of junk. Munificent on the center I'm designating as TANGO-2. Boss, is Delta Squad ready?"

"It'll be just like the simulations sir." Boss answered confidently.

They were interrupted when a hologram of a clone pilot in his cockpit appeared.

"Sorry to interrupt your meeting sir, but the Clankers are launching fighters. Should we engage?"

"Are there any bombers among them?" Pellaeon asked.

"That's a negative sir. I spotted only Vultures."

"Maintain your positions then Contrail. When the transports launch, I want your squadrons to escort them. Contrail, your squadron I'm assigning to escort a group heading towards the Munificents."

"Is this that one scenario you had us practice over and over again for the past two months sir?"

Pellaeon held back a chuckle.

"The very same. Get ready, they will launch soon."

Contrail's hologram vanished, leaving behind the initial members of the meeting.

"I'll notify everyone." Baylan Skoll spoke up. "We will need to be quick, but I am confident those Munificents will be destroyed soon."

"Once those Munificents are destroyed, the other group will divert their attention to you, Captain Pellaeon. Can your ship deal with them too?" Master Kota asked.

The Captain thought back at the Battle of Merson where he had to abandon all ground forces including his Jedi General to preserve his fleet. He felt guilty leaving all those men for dead, but the Admiralty judged that Pellaeon made the correct call. Since then, he swore to never abandon his comrades again.

"We're always ready General. No matter when and where we'll always be there. The motto of the Leveler was once 'Can Do'. After many battles, we've changed that motto to 'Will Do'. Those Separatists won't know it."

Kota nodded. He didn't have much respect for Clones, but he did respect men like Pellaeon.

"Good man. Kota out."

Kota's hologram disappeared along with the others, leaving Pellaeon alone. Ideas were circulating in his mind on how to deal with these problems but he pushed them aside. Sometimes, the solutions are simple and sometimes you don't need to blow up everything for a victory.

Republic Boarding Party Transports

"Streak, what's the ETA?" Captain Fordo called out to the pilot.

"ETA 30 seconds Cap. Contrail and his boys are busy clearing the Vultures."

After hearing that, the Captain went back to checking his equipment. The other ARC troopers in their modified LAAT were doing the same.

"We got enough explosives to blow up that piece of scrap?" One ARC Trooper asked the other.

"Even if it's not enough to blow them up outright, it's enough to ground them."

Fordo chose that time to speak up.

"Speed is of the essence here brothers. Once we get off, I want Burnout, Boxer, Dreamer, Stretch, and Worm to secure the hanger. Slice, Pyro, Rocket, and Chemo, you're with me."

"15 seconds!" Streak called out.

Their LAAT rocked as returning fire barely miss their transport. They could hear the engines of the Munificents as Streak flew them closer to their target.

"Alright brothers, lets get it done." Fordo encouraged his squad.

The moment the LAAT flew into the hanger, Streak immediately opened fire with his turrets and missiles at anything.

"Lets go!" Their Captain yelled. The doors slid open and the ARC Troopers were met with utter chaos as Streak continued to wreak havoc on the surprised droids.

"Cap! Those are transports!" An ARC Trooper yelled. Captain Fordo shot down two fleeing B1s with his dual blaster pistols and looked to where the soldier was pointing at. He ignored the incoming blaster fire as his squad took down the droids with ease and stared at the wreckage of several HMP Droid Gunships. There, he saw pieces of an unmistakable droid type.

"This is Warwolf 3 to all units. The droid transports are carrying Commando Droids!" A blaster bolt sailed passed his head, interrupting the Captain. Wordlessly, he returned fire and moved on towards his objective.

Landing Party

"Copy that Warwolf 3. Warwolf 1, did you hear?"

"I heard that Alpha." Skoll said from inside his transport with another squad of ARC Troopers. "Do we know how many transports went to the crash site?"

"Warwolf 1 this is Shadow 1. I have visual confirmation that Commando Droids are landing at the crash site during my last pass. Be advised, the latter group of Frigates are within turbolaser range of the crash site. I suggest a quick drop and for the transports to exfil immediately."

"Thank you Contrail." Baylan looked at the ARC Trooper squad with him and then radioed the rest of the landing party. "Warwolf 1 to all Warwolf and Outlaw Elements, transports will not land. We will hop off into the fray immediately. Pilots, use your missiles to target hostile gunships. Cool off that hot landing zone a little for us."

"With pleasure, General."

He heard the sounds of missiles from the LAATs and Kota's MAATs firing, followed by cheers from the pilots.

"Good hit. Good hit. That's 7 gunships destroyed."

Their LAAT slowed with the doors being slid open. Baylan stood at the edge, watching as they got closer and closer.

"Everyone off!" He ordered when they were low enough. The Jedi and the Clones hopped off their transports. Nearby, other Clones and Militiamen did the same. They were in a grassy area that was starting to burn because of the burning wrecks of the CIS Gunships. Unfortunately, Baylan noticed, there were only a few destroyed Droid Commandos among the wreckage.

"General," Alpha approached Baylan. "Majority of the Droid Commandos made it inside. Orders?"

The Jedi turned around where the wreck of the downed Munificent rested. It was split into two pieces with smoldering pieces spread out everywhere.

"Squads 1 and 2 will be checking the front of the ship for survivors with me. Squads 3 and 4, follow Captain Alpha and check the rear of the ships." Baylan ordered, making sure everyone heard it." He then turned to Kota's Militiamen. "I want you lot to set up a perimeter in case the Separatists send reinforcements. Everyone got that?"

Nobody spoke up.

"Alright, you all heard the General." Alpha spoke up loudly. "Let's make them holler!"

The group of ARC Troopers and Militiamen ran towards the crash site with Captain Alpha-17 and Baylan Skoll leading them. Baylan just had a weird feeling about this mission, but he quickly shook it off. He can worry about that later.

In Space

Strikefast shuttered as it took multiple hits from the enemy Munificents. Teshik stayed calm and looked out the viewport along with Captain Parck while the Venator shredded a Munificent into pieces. Another Frigate near it switched targets from the Electrum to the Strikefast.

"Sir, shields are down to 20%!" An officer yelled. Teshik then turned to the officer behind him.

"Intensify the forward batteries! I don't want anything to get through! And where is Admiral Screed?"

The Star Destroyer shook once more when a squadron of Hyenas made their run on the flagship before they were shot down by some V-Wings. Teshik cursed when he heard the same officer yell they were down to 15%.

"This is getting ridiculous." Parck seethed. "There's too many of them and they just keep coming."

As the Captain said that, another 3 Munificents and 1 Recusant jumped into the system and moved to engage Teshik's fleet. Admiral Tallon's fleet wasn't faring any better as more Separatist reinforcements hammered his fleet, regardless of how many ships he destroyed.

"Report from Admiral Tallon, sir!" One officer spoke up. "Star Destroyers Nightwatcher, Solitude, and Morning Star have taken serious hull damage and was ordered to withdraw."

"Where the bloody hell is Screed?" Parck yelled out to nobody in particular.

Their warship shook when a barrage of turbolasers found their mark on the battered Strikefast. The Vice Admiral gritted his teeth. He imagined he would die one day in a glorious last stand, not because somebody was late. Teshik hoped that whatever happens, it was all worth it for the Republic.

"Sir! We've detected Republic warships exiting hyperspace in our sector and near Admiral Tallons!"

He looked at an equally relieved Captain Parck.

"Readings confirmed! Victory Fleet under Vice Admiral Screed are here to reinforce us with 7 Victory-class Star Destroyers are here to reinforce us. Task Force 87 under Commodore Rampart with 3 Venators are arriving to reinforce Admiral Tallon."

"Thank the stars!" Captain Parck said with exuberant energy. Right in front of Teshik's fleet, Screed's 7 VSDs exited hyperspace and immediately began blasting away at the Separatist warships. One Recusant lost power and drifted aimlessly when two VSDs bombarded the warship and left fires from stem to stern.

"This is Vice Admiral Screed to the crew of the Strikefast. I hope we're not too late?" The bridge crew heard from the speakers.

"You're late, Terrinald." Teshik responded to his fellow Vice Admiral. "But not too late. You've bought us a lot of time."

"More than enough my friend. Pull your ships back, we will handle these Separatist dogs. For the Republic!"

The Victory Fleet sped past Teshik's 3 Venators, destroying CIS ships at speeds greater than Venators could. Vice Admiral Screed felt proud that his forces held the Separatists back long enough and that they would fight for the Republic another day. However, the battle was not over. He turned to address Captain Parck.

"Pull back to the hyperspace point and send our starfighters planetside. Have them support the Leveler."

"Aye sir." Parck left his side to issue orders. Teshik turned back to the viewport and started into the great vastness of space. Even with the arrival of reinforcements, Teshik just couldn't shake off a bad feeling.

Inside the crashed Munificent

Baylan Skoll strolled through the hallway of the downed warship. Behind him, ARC Troopers and Militiamen cautiously followed him. The Jedi didn't even have his lightsaber pulled out and to the soldiers, he looked like the calmest person in the galaxy.

"Easy boys, these Droid Commandos are just quicker pieces of scrap. You're all better than them." He assured the soldiers. While the militiamen were confused at the way Baylan Skoll was acting, the ARC Troopers found his words to be comforting. Any worry or fear was gone when their General was present.

Suddenly, the Jedi raised a fist, signalling the rest to halt. He stood at the middle of a junction with a hallway to his left, right, and directly to his front. Baylan looked to his left, but found nothing so he looked to his right and also found nothing.

"Everything okay General?" An ARC Trooper asked. In response, the Jedi closed his eyes and focused. He could feel the presence of his troops behind him. Not far ahead, he could feel the presence of more lifeforms at the bridge. Baylan also could faintly hear the sounds of droids walking around.

Droids up ahead. A lack of blaster fire could mean the defectors sealed themselves within the bridge. Too many sets of feet to get an accurate number. He thought to himself. New movement. Up…above?

Baylan's eyes shot open and he pivoted just as a Commando Droid busted from the ceiling ventilation and swung down where the Jedi once stood with a vibrosword. The Jedi was still too close to the Droid so the soldiers held their fire. In response, the Jedi grabbed the Commando Droid from the neck with one hand while the other held the droid's shoulder firmly. With barely any hint of effort, Baylan ripped the head from the body. His body twisted and then the Jedi heaved the droid head up the ventilation shaft. There was a loud bang and another Commando Droid fell from the ventilation shaft with another vibrosword, just barely missing an unfazed Jedi. Without hesitation, Baylan stomped down on the droid's neck and twisted until the neck had separated from the body.

This all took 5 seconds to the awe of the soldiers present.

"Dang, that was pretty cool." A militiaman commented.

Baylan unclipped his lightsaber and ignited it. He then raised his green saber in the air and looked to the soldiers.

"With me!"

Invigorated, the ARC Troopers charged forward with their General. Behind them, the militiamen stood confused, before they got their bearings and joined their comrades. With Baylan leading the way, the group found Commando Droids surrounding the blast doors of the bridge with one trying to hack their way inside.

The soldiers stopped and took aim, but the Jedi General pushed forwards. It was then, the droids realized the danger they were in and turned around too late as the tall Baylan Skoll slammed his body into a droid and smashed it on a wall with his body weight. Not giving them a chance to react, Baylan swung to his right and decapitated the nearest Commando Droid. Others turned to meet the Jedi threat but were immediately taken down by a hail of blaster bolts.

One Droid Commando struggled to stay standing even after its comrades were down on the ground. Baylan calmly approached the dying droid and put his right palm on its chest. The droid looked at the stoic Jedi, almost as if it can't believe it. Suddenly, the droid was violently thrown into the air and smashed into pieces when it impacted a wall.

"That droid kill someone you know, General?" Asked an ARC Trooper while the soldiers approached the blast doors.

"Not this droid specifically, but the people who made them did." Baylan responded and turned off his weapon.

"Aye, I can agree with that." An older Militiaman commented.

Baylan turned to an ARC Trooper who was inspected the controls for the blast door.

"Fixer, can you get it open?"

The ARC Trooper checked the wires.

"Yeah, give me time. Those Droid Commandos messed with it so it's a little wonky but I can get it open."

They were silent, yet vigilant as Fixer got to work. Then, Baylan and the others picked up the sounds of incoming footsteps.

"Droids! Protect Fixer!" He said as he turned around activated his lightsaber to deflect incoming fire. The rest turned in unison and began pouring fire down the hall. Baylan noticed Fixer's vulnerability and moved to protect him with his saber. A few blaster bolts were fired at the ARC Trooper's way, but he paid no mind as his General deflected them ease.

"Today, ARC Trooper!" A Militiaman yelled.

"Not my fault those blaster droids messed with it!" Fixer responded, trying to focus on his work. Baylan shook his head. He only hoped that all this was worth it in the end.

Leveler

"Delta Squad's shuttle is away!"

Pellaeon watched as the Clone Commandos' Shuttle flew out of their Munificent followed by a massive internal explosion that broke the Frigate in half.

"TANGO-2 has been destroyed sir." The Sensory Officer yelled. Right afterwards, an LAAT flew out of TANGO-1 followed by internal explosions and the Munificent losing power, causing it to plunge towards the ground. "TANGO-1 has also been destroyed sir."

"Hmmm, the ARC Troopers won't be happy about being slower than the Commandos." Pellaeon said to himself.

A group of MAATs emerged from the last Munificent that was now falling with flames bursting from parts of the ships. He heard the alert about TANGO-3's destruction and that Kota's militia have wounded on board.

"And now I'll have to deal with angry militiamen being beaten by Clones." He sighed.

"Sir! The other enemy Frigates are moving to our position and more Separatist transports are heading towards the crash site!"

Pellaeon turned to his aide who made the announcement and his face hardened.

"Lieutenant Meriones, get our transports in the air immediately and get the rescue team out of there. Have Captain Fordo's transport join them. I want our fighters to focus on clearing the skies and for the bombers to harass those Frigates."

"What about us sir?" The Lieutenant asked.

"I want solutions on their center Frigate. Prep the Concussion Missiles. We'll provide enough of a distraction for them to ignore the transports." Pellaeon ordered, before turning back to the viewports.

"Aye sir!"

Meriones jogged away to issue orders. Their Captain remained stonefaced, even when a Hyena Bomber got close and unleashed its payload on the warship, causing it to shake. The Leveler would hold for as long as she needs to be. Finally, Pellaeon admitted that they needed something bigger, heavier, and more armored one day.

Munificent Crash Site

"They just keep coming!" A Militiaman yelled.

Baylan took note of the situation. 12 Commando Droids were destroyed, but 4 Militiamen and 1 ARC trooper lay wounded. Not ideal for a rescue team.

"Get that door open Fixer!" He yelled.

"I got it!" The ARC Trooper yelled to everyone's relief. Behind them, the blast doors opened just as another 10 Commando Droids showed up down the hall. "Let's go!"

The group poured into the bridge while carrying their wounded. Baylan stood firm, blocking shots and protecting his soldiers. Unfortunately for one, a blaster bolt got through and struck a retreating Militiaman's ankle.

"AGH! I'm hit!" The poor man yelled, leaning on the wall. Fortunately for the volunteer, Baylan offered him a hand and guided him towards the door.

"Not today soldier! Nobody's dying on my watch!" Baylan boldly claimed. He deflected a few more shots and ran inside with the wounded soldier. Immediately, the blast doors closed and sealed the bridge.

"Score one for me." ARC Trooper Fixer smugly said after playing with the controls. He then took out his blaster pistol and shot it. "Now they can't hack their way in."

They took a breather with all staring at the blast door and a few of them still aiming their weapons.

"Baylan?"

With lightning speed, the group turned around and aimed their weapons. The Jedi shielded the wounded Militiaman and had his lightsaber ready, but he was not prepared for who called his name.

"Fenryr?" He said, astonished.

The love of his life stood at the center of the bridge. Gone was the roguish woman he knew, but a prim and proper woman in a gray Separatist uniform. A blaster pistol was in her hand but aimed down on the floor. Behind her and in cover were a multitude of people of different races, all aimed at the Republic troopers and the lone Jedi.

Baylan carefully laid the wounded Militiaman down while an ARC Trooper checked on his wounds. Fenryr let out a small laugh and holstered her pistol. In a move that seemed uncharacteristic of a woman dressed like her, Fenryr rushed Baylan and gave him a very tight hug.

"Is-is this really the time Fenryr?" asked a surprised Baylan.

"Shut up," Fenryr said. "It's been years. Let me enjoy this."

He smiled and then finally returned the hug. Seeing this display of affection, the rest of the people on the bridge relaxed as well as the Republic troops. The viewports of the bridge were shut closed with blast shields he noticed, leaving them blind to the outside world but also protecting them from outside threats.

"Sir, you know her?" An ARC Trooper asked his General.

"We were in the same orphanage together in Serenno," Baylan explained. "When I joined the Jedi Order, we weren't able to contact each other for years until Count Dooku returned to Serenno and she became his assistant. Then the war began and we lost contact again."

He analyzed his situation and then his eyes bored into the eyes of his ARC Troopers.

"When we get back, none of you will say anything about this alright?"

The Clones looked at each other and nodded.

"Nope didn't see anything."

"Lips are sealed, General."

"If the bed's a-rockin, don't come a-knockin." Everyone stared at the one Clone who said the last part. "I've been to the holonet. I'm hip."

Baylan looked back down on the shorter Fenryr.

"So, Separatist Defector huh?"

Fenryr looked sullen.

"I was Dooku's personal agent, Baylan. My job used to be to spy on the other leaders, but then he made me start assassinating dissidents. I just…couldn't do it. We were supposed to be protecting those people. Now, I just don't recognize the Dooku I knew."

The tall Jedi sighed and kissed the top of her head.

"I understand what you mean. When the war's over, we'll get to the bottom of it. Something forced Master Dooku's hand, and I feel like Master Qui-Gon Jinn's death and Master Sifo-Dyas' disappearance only factored in his madness."

Fenryr let go of Baylan and looked right into his eyes.

"Baylan, listen-"

*Beep Beep*

His holocommunicator let out an alarm, disrupting what Fenryr was about to say.

"Sorry, gotta take this one," He took out his holocommunicator and activated it, revealing a hologram of Captain Pellaeon. "Skoll here."

"General, do you have the defectors?"

He looked around the bridge, noticing the ex-Separatists mingling with the Militia and ARC Troopers or helping set up cover in front of the blast door.

"Yeah, I would say so. Lovely people, you should meet them."

Pellaeon however, had no time for jokes.

"We took down 3 Frigates and another 3 are bearing down on my position. The Leveler's position cannot hold. I'm sending transports to your location."

Baylan steeled himself after being notified of their situation.

"We're located at the bridge of the Frigate. Be advised, we still have Droid Commandos in the vicinity." He then put his fingers on his earpiece. "Alpha, how's everything on your end?"

"We found nobody on the other end of the ship, General. Tried heading to your position but we have Commando Droids blocking the entrance to your half of the ship and even more that just landed. Should we try breaking through to you sir?"

"No, no. Seek cover and hold position. We need a quick extract and having you get lost would complicate things."

"Roger. We're holding up in the gap between both halves of the ship. Send the flyboys to pick us up!"

"Will do Alpha." The Jedi turned back to the hologram and explained the situation to Captain Pellaeon who listened attentively.

"Copy all, I'll notify the extraction teams. Pellaeon out."

The hologram shut off, leaving the bridge in silence as everyone looked at the only Jedi. Baylan looked around and he stared at the blast shields.

"Can we get those blast shields open?" Baylan asked nobody in particular.

"We've tried." Responded a Neimodian manning one of the computers. "It's been jammed shut since we crashed. Most systems have refused to respond."

"Sir, may make a suggestion?" A Militiaman called out. Baylan turned to the soldier and nodded. "A year ago, General Kota and some men crashed on a planet and were in the same situation with blast shields blocking their only escape. Just like them, maybe we can use explosives to blow them open. At least, big enough for the transports to pick us up."

Baylan looked up at the blast shields and looked around the gathered people.

"Do we have any explosives to try this?"

There was no response until an ARC Trooper with a backpack raised his hand.

"I do sir! Always got enough explosives to do any job."

"Sunny also almost got us killed a few times." Another Clone muttered.

The Jedi chose to ignore the last comment and nodded at the Clone with explosives.

"Get it done, quickly."

"Alright!" The ARC Trooper enthusiastically ran to the blast shields while a hand rummaged through his bag. "I knew I would get to blow something up today!"

"Karabast. Is it a good idea to have someone borderline insane create our escape route?" One ARC asked.

"Maybe not," Their General responded. They heard sounds coming from the bridge's entrance followed by some piece of machinery cutting through the blast door. "But we don't have much of a choice now do we?"

Shadow 1

"Alright boys, clear a path for the transports!"

Contrail's V-Wing dived to meet a group of Vulture droids that were using a Munificent as cover to ambush the LAATs. The rest of Shadow Squadron followed suit behind him. He pulled the trigger, joining his squadron as they barraged the Vultures from above. His target took two hits before sputtering and then crashing into the hull of a Munificent.

"Shadow 1, this is Red Moon 1, coming up on your six."

"Roger that Red Moon 1. Loosen up formation. The clankers may not have that many fighters but those cannons will turn you into paste."

Not a moment too soon as one of the Munificents' turrets chose him as a target. Flak bursts rocked his V-Wing with one exploding uncomfortably close to his cockpit. Contrail glanced to his left and noticed cracks on his window from the shrapnel.

"Shadow 1 is hit! Shadow 1 is hit!"

One of his squadron members yelled in panic.

"Negative, negative. Just some paint scratches and a cracked cockpit window."

"Shadow 1, this is Leveler Actual. Are you sure? That cracked window doesn't sound too good."

Contrail checked his systems and then himself.

"No, no I'm good. A little shaken up but I'm green."

"Alright Shadow 1. Proceed with the mission but set your bird down before we leave the atmosphere just in case. Technicians and medical personnel are on standby."

"Shadow 1 copies. Shadow Squadron, let's move!"

The V-Wings of Shadow Squadron moved ahead of the LAATs and towards the crash site. Coming up alongside them was a squadron of ARC-170s.

"Red Moon Squadron to Shadow Squadron, mind if we join you guys?"

To the squadron's left, the ARC-170 squadron formed up alongside them ready for bear. Not far behind, the group of LAATs led by Captain Fordo's got through the Separatist defense screen and followed their escorts towards the crash site.

"Remember, everything around the ship is fair game, but the ground team is still inside so watch your fire. I'm not dealing with paperwork because someone got careless."

"Copy that."

They flew bit until they spotted the smoke coming from the crashed Frigate and the destroyed Separatist gunships from earlier in the vast forest. Fires from the clearing had spread to the trees and it looked as if a wildfire was starting. However, Contrail also spotted more gunships that came from the last 3 Munificents.

"Looks like the clankers sent reinforcements. Shadow Squadron, we're taking out those gunships. Red Moon Squadron, follow us in."

He received agreements from the Clone pilots and they began to dive at the Separatists. Contrail's V-Wing shook but held firm. Through the sights, Contrail lined his V-Wing with a HMP Droid Gunship that just lifted off. His fingers squeezed the trigger and he let loose a barrage of lasers at the unfortunate gunship. Two of them tore through the gunship, causing it to explode into pieces. The rest of Shadow and Red Moon followed his example and picked their targets, both the gunships and the Commando Droids on the ground. As Contrail pulled up, he heard cheers coming from the other pilots.

"Loop around. We'll take out any stragglers!"

Inside the Munificent's Bridge

"Get ready!" Baylan yelled out, his lightsaber ready to block any incoming laser bolts. Everyone else was behind cover and had their blasters trained at the blast doors while their explosive expert was busy setting up explosives.

By this time, the Separatists have nearly cut through. The lone Jedi calmed himself and positioned himself into his favored form: Shien. He closed his eyes and thought back to his training but also his memories with Fenryr.

Waaaaa!

Baylan's eyes shot open and for the moment, he felt vulnerable. He thought he heard the sounds of a baby's wail but gathered himself for the breach.

*BOOM*

The Droids blew a huge hole through the blast door, but unfortunately for them, the one Jedi was prepared.

Baylan raised both of his hands and all the debris from the explosion froze in the air. Four Commando Droids jumped through the hole but the bridge's occupants still held their fire. Baylan Skoll was strong in the Force, and he was about to show it to everyone.

Thrusting his hands forward, the debris flew towards the hold and crashed through the unfortunate droids. The amount of debris was just enough to plug the hole back up.

"Today Sunny!"

"I am handling very sensitive objects in a delicate situation. It's my own special explosives that were denied by 4 Jedi Generals I served under." Sunny yelled back who then returned to putting a flat piece of explosive on the blast shield. Several others were already placed in different locations.

"Is anyone concerned that Sunny could potentially hurt someone here?" An ARC Trooper shouted.

Sunny placed his last explosive and gave a thumbs up to anyone paying attention.

"Oh yeah, it's going to be fun boys. I'm all set here!"

The explosive expert ran from the blast shield and joined his brothers in aiming at the blast doors.

"How confident are you in your explosives?" Baylan asked, sensing the Droid Commandos were preparing something.

"50/50," Sunny responded. "Either it'll blow up and shrapnel gets thrown outside at the speed of a Senator chasing money, or we return home with holes in our bodies."

"Good enough for me." The Jedi said, earning looks of disbelief from others. He was too busy holding the debris covering the hole in place to pay attention. "Blow it Sunny!"

"Oh ho, I think you're my favorite General!" Sunny the ARC Trooper pressed a detonator. At once, 10 explosives detonated, blasting away a section of the bridge's blast shields big enough for an LAAT.

At that moment, the Commando Droids blew away the debris Baylan was holding up with another explosive and began to fire into the bridge. Baylan stood in front, using his lightsaber to deflect incoming fire while the rest of the bridge's occupants began firing at the hole.

"I want suppressing fire!" Baylan ordered. "Keep them pinned down! I'll worry about any detonators they throw!"

As he said so, one Commando Droid threw a thermal detonator inside the bridge but Baylan used the Force to grab it in the air and sent it back. There was an explosion that was obscured by all the smoke and barrage of laser bolts.

"Warwolf 1, this is Warwolf 3. We just saw an explosion from the bridge. Is everything alright?"

"Warwolf 3, that was just us blowing a hole through the blast shields!" The Jedi yelled, relieved that Captain Fordo was here. "We have the Separatists pinned down but we need evac ASAP! Our position cannot hold very long!"

"Solid copy Warwolf 1. We're sending LAATs down to your position."

Not a moment too soon as they heard the sounds of a LAAT's engine. The skillful Clone pilot hovered his LAAT halfway inside the bridge to allow. Baylan turned to Fenryr who was busy firing at the bridge's entrance with a blaster pistol.

"Fenryr! Take your people and go! We'll cover you!"

The woman nodded and motioned for the other Separatist Defectors to follow her. He went back to fighting off Separatist fire alongside his troops. After a while, he heard the confirmation that they got away.

"Axel Four-Three is away. Axel Four-Two is inbound for extraction."

"Sergeant Smoker!" Baylan called out to an ARC Trooper who ran up to him with a DC-15A Blaster Carbine. "I want you to take everyone and get on Axel Four-Two."

"What?" The ARC Trooper questioned. "Sir! We are not leaving you behind!"

"You're not leaving me behind. I'll get on the next transport after I cover your extraction."

Two Commando Droids broke through and made a beeline for the Jedi. Smoker fired but the agility of the Droids allowed them to avoid his shots though one did barely graze a droid's shoulder. Baylan swiftly engaged the droids. He ducked and twirled to avoid blaster fire as he passed one of them and sliced the unfortunate droid in half. The other was smarter and jumped back to keep a distance so when Baylan slashed where the droid stood, he only managed to cut its blaster. Now disarmed, the Commando Droid attempted to tackle the Jedi in a last-ditch effort but the Jedi threw his hand forward and Force pushed the droid into a wall. Smoker fired a few times at the crumpled form to make sure the droid stayed dead.

"Sir, it's getting hot here. Come with us!" Smoker pleaded to his commander.

"That wasn't a suggestion Sergeant," Baylan replied. He grabbed the body of the second Commando Droid with the Force and threw it at the blast door, nailing two other Commando Droids who jumped through the opening. "I do not intend to die today and I'm ensuring nobody dies under my watch."

Smoker wanted to say something else, but shouts from the soldiers already on board Axel Four-Two compelled him to follow orders. As the Sergeant retreated, Baylan allowed himself a smirk, satisfied that the men hand-picked to join GEOCOM had the guts to question orders if needed.

Now alone, the Jedi closed his eyes and deactivated his lightsaber. Baylan got on his knees just as a large group of Commando Droids rushed in, aiming their blasters at the Jedi Knight.

"Surrender Jedi." One of the droids demanded.

He took a deep breath and opened his eyes. The Jedi Knight thrust a hand forward and used the Force to pull all of their blasters out of their hands. Standing up, Baylan turned on his green lightsaber and threw it at the group of Commando Droids. Five of them were immediately bisected.

Before the droids could respond, the tall Jedi rushed them and shoulder-checked a droid. One droid pulled out its vibrosword and swung down, but Baylan twirled around and grabbed the sword's hilt with both of his hands. He twirled around again while ripping the sword away from its owner and then impaled the droid from the back.

Another droid tried punching Baylan but he ducked and pulled the vibrosword out of its dead owner. In the process, he swung the beheaded the Commando Droid. Sensing the others were about to rush him, Baylan twirled around and used his momentum to throw his temporary weapon at them. The vibrosword found itself impaled on the torso of an unfortunate droid. Using the force, Baylan called back his lightsaber with the weapon beheading another two Commando Droids as it flew back into his hand.

Baylan Skoll was smiling, and he was enjoying the chance to let loose. However, the end of his fun was signalled when a wave of blue laser bolts cut down the disarmed Commando Droids. He looked at the front of the bridge where Captain Fordo's personal LAAT hovered with its passengers firing at any droid on sight.

"Glad to see you having some fun General, but we need to leave." Captain Fordo radioed him.

Their Jedi General shook his head with the biggest smile on his face. He ran towards the LAAT and jumped on board, just in time as another group of Commando Droids rushed into the bridge.

"Everyone's aboard! Lets move!" The Clone Captain yelled.

Aboard the Strikefast

"Sir, Leveler has picked up all assets and are entering orbit." The Venator's Comms Officer announced.

"Very good." Teshik responded. "Signal all forces that mission is complete and to begin the retreat."

The Strikefast shook after colliding from the debris of a Recusant it destroyed with the assistance of a Victory-class Star Destroyer. They had destroyed a substantial number of Separatist ships with Vice Admiral Screed's assistance, including both Bulwarks, but they were at their very limit. All three of Teshik's Venators had hull breaches and were aflame in several locations. Screed's warships all had various forms of damage, but not as severe as the Venators. Admiral Tallon's fleet was down to 50% combat effectiveness with half of his Venators forced to jump into hyperspace back to friendly territory prematurely. Thankfully, Commodore Rampart's Venators provided them with much-needed support and covered the Admiral's retreat while finishing off the Lucrehulk that had been present since the beginning of the battle.

"Leveler spotted sir. They got beat up pretty good." Captain Parck noted. Teshik watched as the Acclamator flew past his Venator and Parck's assessment was correct. There were multiple hull breaches and fire-belching from an ugly hole near the bridge tower on the port side of the ship. ARC-170s and Y-Wings flew alongside the decorated warship as they jumped into hyperspace.

"Alright, time to go. Set coordinate for the rendezvous." Teshik ordered.

The Republic warships turned to retreat while the Separatist fleet grew larger. Another two Lucrehulks just arrived and launched their fighters too late as the Republic Fleet disappeared from the system. A victory for the Republic, one that is sure to be celebrated.

2 weeks later

"We've questioned and done everything possible and I can safely say that Agent Fenryr is clean. Her intention to defect was found to be legitimate, and the information she had passed on is invaluable. Vice Dodd Rancit from Republic Intelligence gave his approval and noted that she would be a valuable member of the Republic Intelligence should the Chancellor allow it."

Inside the High Council Chamber, the Jedi Council listened on as the hologram of Admiral Barton Coburn read reports from the battle and the information they acquired from the defectors. Everyone in the Council was present aside from Masters Kenobi, Plo Koon, and Shaak Ti who attended via holoprojector. Also present as holograms were Chancellor Palpatine, Admirals Wullf Yuleran and Wilhuff Tarkin, and Fenryr herself in the black officer's uniform of Republic Intelligence. Standing back by the entrance in person were members of the battle Master Soon Bayts, Master Rahm Kota, Knight Baylan Skoll, Admiral Adar Tallon, Vice Admiral Osvald Teshik, and Clone Captains Alpha-17 and Fordo.

"If the esteemed Vice Admiral believes her skills and knowledge would be put to better use with Republic Intelligence, who am I to deny him?" Palpatine commented. He looked at Fenryr with a gentle smile. "That is, if you would accept?"

"I accept, Chancellor." Fenryr bowed her head. "I would be honored. May I make a request?"

"Of course my dear."

"Vice Admiral Rancit has told me that he was frustrated with Director Armand Isard for not assigning an agent to be attached to GEOCOM. He asked me to relay this information because he is pre-occupied with all of the information I and the other defectors shared with him."

"According to Director Isard's report, you seemed to have connections with Jedi Master Baylan Skoll prior to him joining the Jedi Order. I believe it would be ideal for Agent Fenryr to join GEOCOM?"

"I share this opinion as well." Admiral Yuleran spoke up. "It would be more fruitful if Intelligence officers have a working and healthy relationship with military officers. Director Isard and some of his agents, in my opinion, are very hostile to everyone which creates a toxic work environment. I've had to threaten him a few times to stop aggravating other naval officers."

Palpatine chuckled.

"Intelligence officers. Always a bother."

"Is there any chance of sleeper agents?" Master Mace Windu asked Admiral Coburn. "Any devices that could alter their behavior?"

"Vice Admiral Rancit's reports include full body scans on all individuals rescued. No devices. Though they did detect a metallic object in one's leg but it turned out to just be shrapnel from an old war wound."

"The Admiralty and Republic Intelligence both agree that enlisting the Separatists Defectors would be fruitful." Admiral Tarkin spoke up. "The intelligence acquired indicates a major Separatist Offensive, the locations of key Separatist leaders including Asajj Ventress, their staging grounds, shipyards, and the location of two incomplete Subjugator-class Heavy Cruisers. If we strike immediately, we can deal a crushing blow to the Separatist war effort."

The Chancellor seemed to be distracted by something and looked away, before turning his attention back to the meeting.

"My friends, I believe we can discuss this another time. It appears that I must attend an unscheduled meeting."

"Very well Chancellor," Windu replied. "Meeting adjourned."

Exchanging their goodbyes, the holograms deactivated and everyone else made their way to the exit. Baylan soon found himself deep into conversation with the rest of the members of GEOCOM plus Vice Admiral Teshik as they walked towards the Temple's hanger. Admiral Tallon decided to stay behind to speak with Master Plo Koon.

"This…wasn't mentioned in the meeting, but the Admiralty is looking to expand GEOCOM." Said Teshik.

"By how much?" Bayts asked.

"As decorated and modified as the Leveler is, they believe a larger fleet would be needed to carry out operations and to protect GEOCOM's HQ. My three Venators along with another three as part of the fleet along with a few Arquitens." The Naval officer rolled his eyes. "Along with a promotion. I was recommended by Admiral Tallon."

"Oh?" Baylan smiled at the officer. "So a congratulation is in order?"

"Please don't." The newly promoted Admiral pleaded. "I'm honored to be promoted, but it meant more assets to look after and more paperwork. Fortunately, the new warships have veteran crews so it should make things easier."

"Hail to the heroes of GEOCOM!"

They all turned around and found a smiling Master Eeth Koth approaching them.

"General! Is there a problem?" Asked Alpha.

"No problem. I couldn't help but overhear that GEOCOM is going to expand?" The Zabrak Jedi Councilmember asked.

"That's correct," Baylan replied. "At least according to the Admiralty."

"Not official yet," Teshik added. "It will still need approval from the Chancellor, but he is very likely to approve it."

"I see." Koth rubbed his chin. "There are Jedi who are interested in joining GEOCOM. Many felt they were better off leading elite troopers into battle instead of entire armies. I do agree that not all of us are cut out to lead so many soldiers, but are more suited for leading small strike teams."

Master Soon Bayts, as the overall commander of GEOCOM, couldn't help but be very interested.

"Any names you know of?" He asked.

"Masana Tide, Tualon Yaluna, Iskat Akaris, Bil Valen, and a few others. I also would like to offer myself to join GEOCOM."

The others stood in shock. A sitting member of the Jedi High Council wants to join them. Even Bayts stood frozen, but he quickly shook himself out of his stupor.

"We would be honored if you'd join us, Master Koth."

Both Jedi Masters approached each other and shook hands.

"We will end this war as soon as possible." Koth replied.

The two Masters continued walking towards the hanger, deep in conversation with Teshik in tow. Fordo and Alpha followed but then stopped when they realized that Baylan Skoll wasn't joining them. Instead, Baylan took out a datapad and looked at it with a smile.

"Are you not joining us, General?" Asked Fordo. Baylan quickly clutched his datapad close so nobody could see what he was looking at.

"Oh um, you guys go ahead. Get some R&R." The Knight stepped back. "I have someone I need to meet."

Both Clone Captains understood with Alpha motioning that he's zipping his mouth shut. Baylan walked off but not before hearing his two Clone officers laughing. He walked past Jedi, but none noticed the look of longing on his face.

Waaaaa!

Baylan remembered how the Council treated his former master, which was why he never mentioned the sounds he heard. It was getting louder and more clearer. A baby's wail, one of desperation, sadness, and in search of protection.

But as the wails got louder and louder, Baylan could make out the sounds of a march along with cheers. He didn't understand, but he was terrified nonetheless.

1800 Prosperity, Residential District #2

Galactic City, Coruscant

"And here is your room's keycard."

"Thank you Captain Dyne."

Fenryr thanked the young and dashing Intelligence Captain who handed her the keycard to her new apartment. All she had in a bag were her spare uniform, undergarments provided to her, a datapad, and a card to a banking account opened up for her.

"There should be enough money in your account for your basic essentials." Dyne informed her. "Your pay will be just like everyone else's and it comes bi-weekly. Director Asard wanted to deduct some of your pay but uh, another individual seemed to have covered everything for you. Especially the apartment itself."

She blinked, surprised that someone would spend money for her.

"Who is it?"

Dyne shook his head.

"Can't tell you. They also seemed to specifically choose an apartment building popular among members of a certain Republic command. Well, if you need help, you have our numbers. I gotta head back. Rancit wants me writing a report."

The young Captain walked away. Fenryr stared at his retreating form and then looked at the keycard in her hand. She swiped the card and the door handle lit green, unlocking it for her. Stepping inside, Fenryr found herself in a spacious apartment with a view of the city. A couch faced the wall next to the door where a brand new holoprojector was placed. There was a closed door at the far end of the room, no doubt, where the bedroom is. It was a standard apartment for one working for the military. Pretty basic, but she noted that she should go shopping to decorate the room more.

Her eyes than stared at the skyline of Galactic City. The sun was setting to the whole room was bathed in warm sunlight. Fenryr stood at the window and sighed.

Suddenly, her moment was interrupted by the sounds of glass bottles. She dropped her bag while turning around and quickly drew her blaster pistol, but stopped when she realized the cause of the ruckus.

"Is that how you greet your friend?" Baylan teased. He was holding a glass bottle after rummaging through a packed refrigerator. The kitchen area made up the entire back end of the room. "Had to go grocery shopping and bought you food. Figured it's better if I buy your food so you have money for clothes and decorating your new home."

"And the bottle?" Fenryr asked, holstering her pistol. She noted that Baylan was still wearing his armor.

"Oh this? It's just juice. My favorite one. Had to get it quick because some Zeltrons were buying up the whole stock."

Before the fridge closed itself, Fenryr noted all the types of ingredients Baylan bought for her.

"You bought me food?"

"Bought you ingredients to make food."

"And the apartment?"

"Saved up a lot of money but had nothing to spend on, so I used it on your new humble abode."

Baylan left his bottle of juice on the countertop and slowly walked towards her. Fenryr subconsciously did the same.

"Not even your own personal transport?"

"I'm a fan of speeder bikes and public transportation."

"No hobbies? No friends to hang out with?"

"I do, but it's hard when I keep thinking about what if you were there."

They stopped, the two adults barely half a meter from each other. Then, the two launched themselves at each other, hugging each other tightly.

"I missed you, so so much," Baylan said, tears starting to form in his eyes. "I was so worried that I finally lost you forever."

"I did too." She said, her head on his shoulder. "The news always talked about Anakin Skywalker this, Anakin Skywalker that. Never about you. That is until I saw the news about you repelling an entire offensive on a planet with only a single battalion."

"Took Dooku's lessons to heart. I refused to die, not until I see you again."

"And here I am."

Their heads pulled back but they continued to hold each other tightly. For Baylan, he could still hear the sounds of a baby's wails, the sounds of an army chanting, and war chants. None of that was able to pull his attention away from the woman he thought of as the most beautiful.

For Fenryr, she was a Separatist Defector, now a Republic Agent. A traitor to many, a hero to others. Her worried about her future was set in the back of her mind and all she could think about was the man her heart belonged to.

The sun continued to set and illuminated the couple.

"Fenryr?"

"I've waited for so long."

Their lips inched closer and closer.

"What if someone's listening?"

"Then let them."

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, their lips crashed and all of their worries were gone for the moment.

A Jedi and a Spy, an unlikely couple. Their hearts fluttered and their minds at ease. The sounds Baylan heard got louder and louder, but all his focus was on Fenryr.

Everything to them felt alright in the galaxy.

Author's Notes: Really loved Baylan Skoll's character. RIP Ray Stevenson. Felt like doing more. My first Star Wars fic here featured Darth Malgus, but that was before Ahsoka came out. Now, Baylan Skoll has become one of my favorite characters. Decided I could do better and made a different fic. It's going to be a longfic but good one bois.
