Dracula and his family returned to the Hotel along with the employees to prepare for a wave of gust arrivals that were coming in for both a vacation and for Mavis's birthday. Mavis was really looking forward to her birthday not only to see her various family friends and a chance to explore the countryside, but to get a special present her biological mother Martha had left for her to be opened on her 118th birthday. The vampire girl was both exited and curious about what the gift could be, since she had no memory of her mother before her death. Could it be some kind of family heirloom or some kind, magic item of power like her father's cape, or the deed to some kind of land for Mavis to call her own? There were just so many possibilities!
Guests began to arrive at the Hotel to get ready for their vacation away from humans and to celebrate Mavis's birthday. Dracula and Emily gave their guests warm welcomes as they passed out itineraries for Hotel events and had guests sign some birthday cards. Mavis told some of her family's closest friends about passing her father's test and being allowed to explore the country. Frank, Wayne, Murray, Griffin, and Bonejangle were impressed by Mavis's accomplishment as they complimented and gave her bits of advice about how to avoid detection from humans.
All was going well, until Dracula spotted an unusual guest come through the front door lobby. At first all he saw was a large backpack stacked high with a sleeping bag and other objects, but then the owner of the backpack turned around to reveal that they weren't a monster, but a human!
The human has fair skin, dark red hair, and brown eyes. He wore a yellow and green t-shirt over a long-sleeve orange shirt, with brown shorts, and blue and green sneakers.
"Whoa this place looks awesome!" Said the human.
Dracula glanced around to make sure none of the guests had spotted the human, before he dashed forward with incredible speed, grabbed the human, and took him into the spinning door. The door spun around as Dracula confronted the human.
"Who are you and what are you doing here?" Demanded Dracula.
"Oh, I'm Jonathan. Thou you can just call me Johnny. And I was just mountain climbing with some dudes...and heard this story about a spooky forest. And who's not going to go into a spooky forest, right? So, then I see these goofy-looking dudes on fire for a bit. And I just kind of followed them to this, like, amazing castle." Said the human with a casual smile on his face.
A scared look appeared on Dracula's face as he realized that the test had setup had caused the fire and had attracted the human's attention. The head builder had warned him about this and he should have listened. Now there was a human in the Hotel! The guests would panic and the Hotel itself would be in danger! Dracula had to get the human out of here before any guests saw him and he had to make sure no more humans find this place.
"How many of you are there?" Asked Dracula
"Just me. I like to hit it alone. You meet so many awesome people in the youth hostels. Hey, speaking of awesome, that cape thing is killing it. Is there, like, a costume party here?" Said Johnny.
Dracula pulled Johnny close to himself to keep the human hidden with the backpack and was heading out the front door to quickly get rid of him, but saw more guests arriving and panicked. He raced back into the Hotel, which wasn't much better since there were already a lot of guests in the lobby. Dracula quickly looked for a place to hide himself and the human and spotted a coat closet not too far away and raced to it avoiding guests as best he could. They reached the coat closet and went inside, where Dracula let out a sigh of relief.
"Wow! This room's kind of small for a big castle. No bed, but check out these awesome dustpans they give you." Said Johnny as he picked up a witch's dustpan which resembled a skull to examine it.
Dracula was trying to think of a solution to his current problem, when there was a knock at the door that nearly made him jump.
"Honey are you ok in there? I saw you run in here and I was concerned." Said Emily from the other side of the door.
Dracula first thought about turning his wife away, but realized that might not be a good idea and that Emily could help with this situation. Two minds were better then one and Emily was his wife and co-owner of the Hotel.
"I'm...ok just trying to figure out what to do...with an unexpected guest." Said Dracula.
"Unexpected guest?" Asked Emily.
"Come see for yourself and I think you'll understand." Said Dracula opening the door a little so Emily could get in.
Emily looked over at Johnny and her eyes widened in surprise. Johnny looked thrilled at Emily in awe.
"Whoa nice costume! There's a whole lot of cool people in costumes here!" Said Johnny.
Emily turned to her husband and the two of them began to have a quiet conversation.
"How did a human end up here?" Asked Emily.
"He apparently saw the fire from the test and followed our workers here." Said Dracula.
"We need to get him out of here for both his own safety as well as the safety of the guests and the Hotel." Said Emily.
"I know. We can't have him killed that'll set monsters back hundreds of years." Said Dracula.
"Not to mention he wouldn't come back from the dead." Said Emily.
"We could have one of the zombies bite him and he'll be a monster." Suggested Dracula.
"We're not letting anything bite him! That would be immoral! Not to mention his his family and friends would come looking for him or he might run away and expose us and the Hotel." Said Emily.
"You're right. We need to get him out of here without anyone noticing him. The sooner the better." Said Dracula.
"Whoa! Check out these awesome costumes." Said Johnny who had been looking through the clothes and other objects in the closet.
Dracula and Emily looked at Johnny and then they looked at each other as they got the same idea of how to get Johnny out of the Hotel.
To be continued.
