Emily looked at Mavis in the lobby along with Victor and Victoria. The undead woman studied Mavis's facial expression and body language closely. She could tell their was something on her stepdaughter's mind, but before she could approach her, Mavis headed to one of the windows, opened it, turned into a bat, and flew out.
"Mavis!" Called Emily, but Mavis was too far away to hear her.
"Will go get her mom." Said Victoria as she and Victor changed into bats and flew after their sister.
Emily's instincts began to give her a idea of what might be happening with Mavis. The vampire had been acting a little strange after meeting Johnny and this made Emilie realize that Mavis had zinged for the disguised human! Emily was both happy and horrified by this. She was happy that her daughter had fallen in love, but she was a little horrified that the love was for a human! Dracula would be furious and there was no telling how he would react or what he would do to Johnny. Emily quickly raced off looking for Dracula and Johnny hoping to find them before Mavis.
Elsewhere Dracula had dragged a still slightly panic stricken Johnny to his room to figure out what to do to with him. Johnny was freaking out about his situation thinking he was going to get killed by Dracula!
"Please don't kill me! I'm so young! I have so many places I want to see! I've got tickets to 6 Dave Matthews Band concerts! I'm getting out of here!" Said Johnny spotting a hatch on the floor.
Johnny opened the hatch door and a large monster named Glen roars at Johnny making him scream and back away.
"Sorry, Glen! Go back to sleep!" Said Dracula as he went over and closed the door.
"Wait. Aren't you going to suck my blood?" Asked Johnny putting his hands protectively on his neck.
"Classic human paranoia. Human blood is so fatty, and you never know where it's been." Said Dracula rolling his eyes.
"So, Dracula doesn't drink blood?" Asked Johnny relaxing a little.
"No, I use a blood substitute. Either Near Blood or Blood Beaters. You can't tell the difference." Said Dracula with a shrug.
"So, wow, you're, like, the real Count Dracula. Like, "I'm Dracula, bleh bleh bleh." Said Johnny doing a Dracula impression.
"I've never said that in my life. "bleh bleh bleh." I don't know where that comes from." Said Dracula looking annoyed.
"Uh, can I just ask, what exactly is this place?" Said Johnny.
"What is this place? It is a place I build for all those monsters out there lurking in the shadows, hiding from the persecution of human kind. A place for them and their families to come to and free themselves. A place void of torches, pitchforks and angry mobs! A place of peace, relaxation and tranquility." Said Dracula as he dramatically looked out the window feeling proud about his hotel and what he had created.
"Cool, so it's like a hotel for monsters?" Said Johnny.
"Yes, exactly. A hotel for monsters. Way to sum it up. Okay, hop on my back, we're leaving." Said Dracula looking a bit annoyed before he changed into his bat form.
"Oh, man, you're a bat now. I always wanted to fly. What's it like? This is insane. Wait. Wait, I want to stay. Can Frankenstein sign my costume? Can I meet the Invisible Man? Hey, if I stuck my hand in the Invisible Man's mouth, would it disappear?" Said Johnny now getting over his fear and shock about his current situation.
Dracula ignored Johnny as he grabbed Johnny by the back of his shirt and began to carry him towards the window to get him away from the hotel and out of Dracula's life. They were almost there when Mavis in her bat form flew into the room and changed into her human form followed by Victor and Victoria.
"Hi!" Said Mavis cheerfully.
Dracula became surprised and nervous at the sight of his children, while Johnny was exited about Mavis appearing before him.
"Mavey! Victor! Victoria! Wh-What are you doing, my sweet little blood oranges? Our friend was just leaving." Said Dracula as he changed back into his normal form putting Johnny on the ground.
"Yeah, he was flying me out the window." Said Johnny.
"This guy is so funny. Oh, look there's something on your face Johnny." Said Dracula to Johnny turning him away from Mavis and the twins.
"What's on my face?" Asked Johnny.
"Play along if you ever want toleave and see your precious backpack." Hissed Dracula.
Johnny just nodded his head before facing Mavis and the twins.
"So, wait, I have to ask you, did you have any clothes on when you were a bat? Or were they bat-sized?" Said Johnny.
"It's vampire magic. Our clothes vanish when we change into animals and then they return when we turn back into our normal forms." Said Victor.
"Cool." Said Johnny.
"So your name is Johnny?" Asked Mavis.
"Yes...it's short...for something else." Said Johnny.
"It's short for...Johnnystein." Said Dracula quickly.
"Johnnystein? Are you related to Uncle Frank?" Asked Victoria.
"Yes he is!" Said Dracula quickly.
"You can just call me Johnny." Said Johnny.
"So what brings you here Johnny?" Asked Mavis.
Dracula quickly thought up a lie.
Mmmmmm... Honey bat, you see, it's your birthday, and, you know, I want you to have the bestest, specialist party of your life. So... well... I... needed some help." Said Dracula.
"You needed help?" Said Mavis with a hint of disbelief.
"Well, look, I am pretty good, but I thought that it would be even more bestest, specialist if someone closer to your age helped plan the party." Said Dracula.
"You're my age?" Asked Mavis looking at Johnny.
"Sure! Uh, well, how old are you?" Said Johnny going along with the lie.
"A hundred and eighteen." Said Mavis proudly
"We're a hundred and fourteen." Said the twins in unison.
Johnny was surprised by this three digit ages. Neither Mavis nor the twins looked like they were over a hundred, then again they were all vampires, so they probably aged differently then humans. Johnny quickly thought up a fake age for himself.
"Uh! Yeah... I'm 121." Said Johnny.
"Really?" Said Mavis in excitement.
"You see? Everything is very, very normal. I'm throwing a party and he is helping." Said Dracula.
At that moment Emily walked into the room and was a bit glad to see her husband, children, and Johnny gathered together.
"There you are." Said Emily.
"Hey mom." Said Mavis.
"Mom?" Asked Johnny.
"Well technically my stepmom, but she'll always be my mom." Said Mavis.
"She's our mom." Said Victoria indicating herself and Victor.
"Children I need to speak to your father for a bit." Said Emily.
Before Dracula could say or do anything a suit of armor raced into the room.
"My lord! My lady! We have an emergency!" Said the suit of armor.
"Oh perfect. Mavis, Victor. Victoria. You three take Johnny and go handle the emergency and will catch up." Said Emily.
"Sure mom." Said the three children as they lead Johnny out of the room and followed the suit of armor.
Emily quickly closed the door and faced her husband with a serious look on her face.
"What's wrong?" Asked Dracula.
"I think Mavis has had a zing and she had it with Johnny." Said Emily.
Dracula stared blankly at Emily and then he laughed.
"Oh that was a good one! You almost had me there." Said Dracula.
"I'm being serious. Our vampire daughter has had a zing with a human." Said Emily.
Dracula just stood there silently as he let those words finally sink in and he let out a gasp of shock and stumbled to the bed. He sat down hard and put his hands on his head.
"No! No! No! No! This can not be happening!" Said Dracula.
"It is. My Mother's Intuition is telling me Mavis is in love. I've see the signs." Said Emily.
"Getting rid of that human is going to be much harder now, especially if he is in love with Mavis!" Said Dracula.
"Maybe, but is this truly a bad thing? I mean Johnny did panic freak out about seeing that us and the other guests were real monsters, but then he seemed to calm down when he learned that no one was going to harm him. It could be a sign that the humans have changed and maybe we don't have to continue to be in hiding and live alongside them." Said Emily.
"Emily...you and I have both experienced the worst of what humans could do to our kind. Sure...Johnny might be a nice guy, who is ok with monsters, but he can't speak for how others humans could react to us. Maybe there...is a slim chance that there are some good humans out there, that won't fear or hate us, but there could be a lot of humans who will show hatred and fear to us and do everything in their power to end us. I already lost...one wife as well as a fair amount of friends and family to humans. I don't want to lose you, Mavis or anyone else to them." Said Dracula.
"I...understand your fear and concern Dracula. I remember what almost happened to me, when we first met, but I'm also open and hopeful to the idea of us living in peace with humans. Let's just see how things work with Johnny and if he truly loves Mavis back, before we decide to do anything drastic." Said Emily.
Dracula looked up at Emily and smiled a little.
"You really are a smart one. I'm glad I have you in my life to keep me straight." Said Dracula as he stood up.
Emily smiled back and took Dracula's hand and the two of them walked out of the room together.
To be continued.
