Welcome back to A Song of Spiders And Dragons. Last time, we caught up with MJ, Ember, and Flame, in the lobby of Osborn's penthouse apartment building. While Ember and Flame riled up the residents, MJ made her way into the security office and got the elevator running, bringing Silver Sable and Osborn down while the trio took the elevator up to the penthouse. So what awaits at the top of the world? Read on to discover...
(Our scene picks up in Osborn's penthouse apartment, overlooking Central Park and probably big enough to house at least 12 people but instead houses just one, two at maximum. The private elevator dings as MJ, Ember, and Flame sneak in)
Flame: (Looks around in frustration) Don't tell Harry when he gets back, but I've always hated this place. This much space could house whole families but Osborn just keeps it all to himself. (Sighs in frustration) I can honestly see why Otto hates the Mayor.
MJ: I don't blame you, honestly. But he's done a lot more to be hated than this I'd say.
Ember: MJ's got a solid point. Now let's get back on track. We have to find anything on that Devil's Breath lab.
MJ: Ember's right. Let's go.
(With that, the trio starts searching around, Flame ends up checking the kitchen, Ember finds a small laundry area though finds it doubtful that Osborn does his own laundry, while MJ enters the foyer and around an oversized coffee table spots a set of blueprints)
MJ: Hello... (Whistles for Flame and Ember to join her)
Flame: What have you got?
MJ: Looks like the blueprint for the apartment.
Ember: (Examines the blueprint in depth) Is it just me or does this seem larger than the actual place is?
Flame: It's not just you. There's a whole room unaccounted for. Who tries to not use space in a Manhattan apartment?
MJ: And if I'm reading this right it's... (Looks over towards a portrait of Osborn and his son, Harry, on the wall) right where that portrait is.
Ember: And he's got enough ego to set it up like he's in the Guggenheim. Take a listen to this. (Reads the plaque next to it) "Norman Bids His Son Farewell." (Realizes the timeline) This must be from when Harry left for Europe last year.
Flame: Seems a little dramatic for a backpacking trip across Europe.
(As if recalling good memories, Flame brushes against the painting, causing it to lift up, revealing a keypad behind it)
Flame: Hello! Secret room uncovered!
Ember: Now we've just got to find the code.
MJ: And better do it fast. Norman could be back at any minute.
Flame: Could be tough, since we have no idea what the code is.
Ember: (Puts it together) That explains it. The code is the day Harry left for Europe! That's why this museum gallery tag is here! It's like a security question!
MJ: When was that? I know it was last summer...
Flame: Osborn probably wrote it down somewhere.
Ember: Then we'd better find it.
(So the trio goes back to searching the apartment, and soon enough, Flame finds a clue)
Flame: What have we here? Norman... locked up Harry's room? Wants it "untouched" for when Harry returns. (Thinks about it) The perfect place to hide a passcode! Now where's the key...
(Meanwhile, Ember listens to an answering machine message from Harry from last year on Osborn's telephone)
Harry: Hey dad. Off to Dr. Michael's for one last shot before the... umm... the big trip. Hey, if you're going to meet me there, could you grab my journal from my room? Just wanted to record some thoughts before the big bon voyage.
(At this point, Ember stops the message and starts tearing up)
Ember: Harry... it's good to hear your voice old friend. (Thinks about it) Wait, did he just say he was going to Dr. Michael? Like, Dr. Morgan Michael? And why did he sound so... tired? Wait, that journal's got to have the date! Now we've just got to find Harry's room...
(At this point, both Ember and Flame have seen that each other has found the clue they did and know where to look. MJ has overheard them too, and they all head towards Harry Osborn's room. But the door is locked. Though MJ finds a tape recorder near the door and plays it, hearing Osborn's voice)
Osborn: Happy birthday, Em. Sorry, I'm late, it's been a hard month. I... I've sent Harry away. For treatment. (MJ fast forwards the recording) GR-27 was too late to save you, but it will save Harry. I've locked Harry's room, I want it just the way it is when he gets back. The key is with you, Em. It always has been. I know you'll keep it safe.
MJ: (Processing all of that) Are you three hearing this? Norman sent Harry away for "treatment"? I thought the Europe trip was Harry's idea?
Ember: And why does GR-27 sound... familiar?
Flame: This is getting stranger by the second. (Looking back at the portrait of Osborn and Harry) Harry, what were you hiding from us?
MJ: That recording's been more helpful than I thought.
(At this point, MJ rushes off, and knows exactly where to find the key to Harry's room, the one portrait with Osborn's wife, Emily. And sure enough, behind it is the key to Harry's room. It has to be. So the trio go back to Harry's room and unlock the door, but as they enter, the scene ends for today)
And that looks like a good place to wrap up for now. A few clues seeded out there about the mysterious Harry Osborn. It seems his father has more secrets than we thought. But now we have the key to Harry's room, and with it, hopefully the code to that keypad. But what awaits on the other side of the door? Tune in next time to find out! Same time... same channel!
