Aether had been kind enough to let her stay in the Serenitea Pot while she sorted out her apartment situation. Honestly, he insisted she stay there and threatened to walk back to Mondstadt and personally force her into the teapot if she refused. Eula swore vengeance as she accepted his offer.
Now, she sat in bed, resting rather peacefully. Quietly, Eula gazed up at the ceiling, attempting to drift off to sleep, but her restlessness persisted.
The knock on her door cut through her peace. Eula rolled out of bed and went over to answer. When she cracked open the door, it was a red-eyed Mirror Maiden staring at her.
"H-Hey," she said shakily. "I had another nightmare."
Without a word, Eula ushered her inside and bade her to sit on the bed. Immediately, Mirror Maiden wrapped her arms around herself in a lonely, little hug. Eula asked if she'd like a glass of water, but Mirror Maiden shook her head.
Her haunted gaze turned to her reflection in the mirror. She swallowed.
"I saw a memory from before of Shiru, someone I killed. He discovered the Delusions, and I caught him snooping around the base. I didn't just kill him—I tortured him. First, I froze his legs so he couldn't escape. I froze his fingers one by one and broke them. I broke his body apart bit by bit, like glass. He screamed—Gods, I never knew a man could scream like that. He only stopped screaming when the frostbite killed him. Then I burned his corpse to ashes. I… oh, Gods…"
She flushed pale and green. Eula grabbed a trash can, thrusting it into Mirror Maiden's lap. The Fatui wretched into the can. Eula gently stroked her friend's shoulders. Using a handkerchief, she dabbed the bile from her lips.
"Oh Gods," she choked. "It was real."
"It was a bad dream," said Eula.
"I felt it, Eula. Every bone breaking, every scream, every time he begged for his life…It was like watching a movie, only I was there, and I couldn't do anything to stop it because I did it."
"That wasn't you. It was her."
"No, I'm her. I did all of it. The worst part is I could feel myself enjoying it."
"Mirror, that wasn't you enjoying it. You're a good person."
"A good person, hah. I have all these memories," said Mirror Maiden. "The things I did. Only now, I can see it all with a clear head. I'd kill myself if it would make everything right."
"Well, it won't," said Eula sharply. "All our friends would be heartbroken if you died. I would… I'd be so lost without you. You've helped me through this apartment crap. When I lost faith in Mondstadt, you helped me regain faith in my friends. So please, don't leave me."
Eula embraced the tear-streaked woman.
"You're my friend, Rosalyn. More than that, you're my sister."
Eula held her tightly, vowing she'd never let go. Mirror Maiden slumped helplessly into the Spindrift Knight's arms, too weak to muster any tears.
They sat awake throughout the night, offering each other comfort. As the first light of dawn filtered through the window, they remained locked in that tender embrace.
