Though for many, many reasons it would likely never happen, I think the spy thriller story of phantom liberty. (That at the time of typing we still know almost nothing about.) Would really mesh well with this story and ghost in the shell in general.

Add in the fact that Motoko would be making the decisions 'blind,' and you have a recipe for Motoko actually having to put those investigative skills she's been practicing to the test.

I mean come on, what's more ghost in the shell then foreign imperialist American spies facing off against each other while the plucky investigative team is trying to piece together what's going on and alter the outcome?

...Well besides giant tank fights, and AI gestalts...

If I was in Motoko's position and suddenly out of nowhere the NUSA president crashed into the city? Well that's something to be wary of, seeing how I wouldn't have any knowledge of it. Also the thought occurs. Imagine you are Motoko and the tragic events of canon 2077 have kicked off. You've set things up as best you can and are hoping for a miracle when suddenly a day or two later out of nowhere the god damn president of the NUSA crash lands into the city and a mysterious hacker offers V another way out. I'd freak the hell out at that.

Unless of course she does know, because this is actually future Vicky from the year 2024 that was sent to another world.

Eh, whichever way you go it will be fun. Even if you choose to ignore it for the story.

Hiromi: "Holy shit, the president just crash landed in dogtown."

Motoko: "Who just landed in the doghouse?"

Hiromi: "Motoko this is serious, the president of the NUSA just crashed into the arena. Somebody just shot down her orbital!"

Motoko: "Meh, that sounds like politics Hiromi and we both know what I think about that."

Hiromi: "This could be the first step of a coup Motoko! This is serious!"

Motoko: "Politics Hiromi, I'm eating my ramen. I have a no politics at the dinner table rule."

Hiromi: "Motoko this isn't politics! This is current events happening on our doorstep!"

Motoko: "I'm sure V will sort it out somehow. In the meantime I have to practice for that concert you scheduled me for remember? The one you didn't tell me about until last week?"

Hiromi: "It's good money! I've been hard up for cash after all of the microtransactions-"

Motoko: "The micro what?"

Hiromi: "-The uh, micro missiles I've been buying for you as a uh, surprise gift."
