Corporate:
Resources:
This represents the corporate's ability to command corporation resources. It is used as a persuasion skill, based on the scale of resources requested. This could include bodyguards, weapons, buildings, money, power, shares, districts, planes, yachts, countries, hitmen, guns, melee weapons, and more. Obviously, the more powerful the Corporate, the more he can call upon at any one time. Your level of Resources determines exactly how much you can request from the corporation without overreaching yourself. A Resource ability rated at +2 might get you access to a Company vehicle and borrow money. An ability of +6 Might allow you to use the Corporate Security Division, hitmen, shares. A Resources of +9 would allow you access to a lot of levels of the Corporation, as well as the ability to requisition almost any Company resource. Ones Resource ability is based on intelligence. You can access this skill if you use the solo skill.
Exec:
Teamwork:
Starting at Rank 3, Teamwork give the Exec a Team Member. Ranks 5 and 9 of Teamwork give the Exec an additional Team Member, capping out at a maximum of 3 total Team Members at Rank 9. Team Members are rolled from a special chart for each of their jobs. The Exec chooses which class of Team Members they want, but their roll on the chart determines the STATs of the Team Member HR hires for them.
HIROMI
"Good morning class." The synthesized voice chirped in my ear.
"Good morning, QS-Sensei!" I joined the class in greeting the Quantified Satori teacher.
It was another boring day for me, stuck in the Academy. I sooo wanted to be out, doing Section 9 things, or even just hanging around Motoko, but missing too much class was gonna get the ol' 'rental units on me, which would give me even less time to spend with my chooms.
"As you are well aware, we are reaching the end of the semester, and as such, we are going to be going over your junior project for Human Resource Management. For the purposes of this assignment, you will be granted limited access to the Corporate Asset Pool, and assigned an operative who will mentor you in the finer points you have been studying so far. Likewise, you will be assigned a small objective, and graded on your joint performance."
Shit, I'd been dreading this. Getting lined up with a bad operative meant a number of things: from outright failure because of poor asset management, an operative that was abrasive or didn't want to cooperate, or worse. If an operative flatlined while on a gig, the student would be held liable and fined, which might impact their career progression. There had even been stories about students that had to go out alone if the former occurred, and hire outside contacts, or in the absolutely worst possible scenario, attempt the gig themselves.
I waited for the instructions to finish parsing, before getting the details for my assigned operative.
Valerie? A clandestine cyber-ninja from counter intel?
Oh wow, this was amazing! I read through the file quickly. She'd just been assigned to the position, but had high marks across the board. A real jonin-instructor! I'd had dreams about learning under someone like that ever since I'd been a kid, though I'd kinda hoped it would have been Jun, with the Tyger Claws. That kinda fell away after Motoko's accident, and the time I'd crashed my bike though...
Still, this was a good opportunity! I stood with the rest, as we began to wander away towards our assigned waiting area, where we'd meet our mentors.
It didn't take long for me to find the ID tag for the woman who'd be my sensei for the next week. She was wearing a standard set of businesswear, in Arasaka red and black, like almost everyone else in the corp. Tanned skin, and striking, bright blue eyes. Her hair was swept, with an undercut, and she had some EMP threading on her cheeks. I could see the faint glint of iron under her jacket, in a shoulder holster. What kind of chrome did she have, I couldn't help but wonder.
She glanced at me quickly, appraisingly, as she stuck a cigarette between her lips and sparked it. Pushing off the wall, she made her way smoothly past the crowd and towards me, "Sup kid. Ready? Let's head somewhere quieter where we can talk."
"Uh, right, Valerie-sensei!"
She kissed her teeth, puffing out a small cloud as she grimaced, "Don't call me that. It's V."
Shit, first thing out of my mouth, and I was already screwing it up. Alright, I could still salvage this! Polite and respectful, but assertive and confident, that was the corpo way. And always looking out for number one, but without your boss finding out, but that wasn't overtly stated. I nodded mutely, and followed after her.
We made our way towards the elevators, and towards the roof of the Academy. The ride was a bit awkward, and I kept glancing towards her. She didn't fidget once.
Finally, we reached the roof, and she meandered over towards a bench, by a holographic Sakura tree sort of like the ones they had by Cherry Blossom Market. That place was so romantic, maybe I could convince Motoko to go out for some yakitori...
No, I had to focus.
V took a seat and finally stubbed out her cigarette, tossing the butt away for one of the maintenance drones to clean later, "So, tell me about yourself."
I took a tentative seat and swallowed nervously, "Uh, what would you like to know, V-sensei?"
"Your likes, dislikes, dreams for the future, that sort of thing."
"Ah, well, my name is Hiromi Mitsunashi. I'm a sophomore at Arasaka Academy, and fifteen years old. I like hanging out with my chooms, I dislike gonks who think they're hard-boiled, and I wanna be the best fixer this side of Kabuki!"
V smiled, but it didn't reach her eyes, "Well, I got good news, and bad news, Hiromi-tan."
"Ah, let's hear the good news first, sensei!"
"Sure. If you make it far enough up the ladder, points for promotion are based on several factors. One of those is the ability to lead a genin team, or help out at the Academy. Certain cases are weighed more heavily than others, depending on a few things: such as legacy connections, difficulty of the assigned task, as well as field capability of both mentor and student."
I nodded, a smile growing on my face. While my file was small, it did have all my notable accomplishments, including dealing with and taking over SLS. I'd also sold a few truckloads of loot, including an entire yacht worth. That was pretty much my crowning achievement, so it had to count for something, right?
"That's great! So what's the bad news, sensei?"
"This ain't gonna work out."
I felt my heart drop. What? NO!
"W-what do you mean? I'm a hard worker! My file -"
"Easy. I know, I read it. The problem is that you're a legacy, and you already have significant achievements under your belt. Honestly? Better than I did at your age. That makes you too good, and doesn't give me enough points for my personal goals. I need to find a real charity case, and I already have one in mind, in the year below you." Who... my mind latched on to one particular individual, who always looked like a kicked little puppy.
DAVID. That little shit! Not only had he been trying to muscle in on my BD business before I pulled the hostile takeover, but now he was sweeping my amazing operative away because he was poor? Fuck that! Fuck him! Fuck this!
While I was still trying to process that, V had stood up, and began to walk away.
"Tough shit, kid. Looks like you'll have to find some street gonk to babysit you. See ya!"
I watched her walk off in dismay, a kernel of fire starting to build inside me. I could hear a high pitched whine in the distance, as I was filled with a desire to rip and tear, but it swiftly petered out. What was I thinking? I wasn't a merc like Motoko, who could flatline -
Motoko.
MOTOKO!
That was it! She was it! Oh my God!
I felt a rush of giddy pleasure. I could do this. We could do this. And who knows, maybe it would be enough to finally...
I shook my head, wiping the trickle of blood from my nose, and the stupid grin off my face. This wasn't the time to daydream, it was the time for action! I walked off with a purpose, holo already dialing the number of my number 1, best choom, and most surprising junior solo in Night City.
H: Hey Motoko? I need a favour.
