Budget Cuts

Jackie: "...Check it out, V. Shit's goin' down."

*A MaxTac areodyne flies over the head of V's much cheaper new ride.*

V: "...That doesn't look like your average bust."

Jackie: "Cause they ain't your average badges, V that there is MaxTac - NCPD's apex predators."

*A warning light appears on the ground as the armored door of the flying brick opens to reveal a purple haired teenager jumping down from twenty feet. The warning speakers suddenly cease and a song starts to blast out of the 'warning sirens.'*

V: "...Is that who I think it is?"

*Jackie decides to roll down the window, just in time to barely hear something that sounded like 'freeze exp?' Out in the pouring rain. Shots ring out and bodies fall before the indigo haired woman in tech goggles turns to see Jackie.*

Motoko: "Jackie?...V? What are you two doing here? You know the district is getting locked down right?"

Jackie: "Us? Hermana what are you doing jumping out of a MaxTac ride? Por favor no, tell me you haven't gone over to the white hats?"

Motoko: "What this? Oh it turns out if you make a big enough dent in the city's crime statistics you automatically get deputized. It's an extension of their outreach program for mercenaries."

*The Aerodyne above their heads suddenly shifts, blasting rain water from the street up and away as it suddenly struggles to maintain its position soaking the poor purplette with enough water to fill the nearby potholes.*

Motoko: "Damn it Malcolm! I told you to keep it steady! Just use the autopilot if you can't even manage that! You have one job!"

V: "...They deputized, you?"

Motoko: "Cool right!?... They said something about budget cuts... And a lack of new recruits for the division. Still free ride!" ***

*She suddenly turns her head to look around before snapping her fingers.*

Motoko: "Wait, did you two do that Dorset gig today?"

V: "...Jackie, do you just ask her to help with every job we go on?"

Jackie: "...No, not every job, girl just has a sixth sense about these things. I blame netrunner bullshit."

*Motoko's smile widens.*

Motoko: "I know you've got that date with Misty tonight Jackie! How about arriving in something with a bit more presence then that beat up jalopy-"

V: "Hey it was a good deal!"

Motoko: "-The lockdown's complete anyway, and they don't expect this thing back till morning, what do you say? Need a lift?"

Jackie: "Now you're speaking my language Hermana."

***The implication here being that Motoko may have eliminated a few of the easier recruits for MaxTac in her quest for bigger numbers.

Anyway I'm mostly happy with this one, still feels like it's missing something though.

Really I just like playing with the idea that if the initial events of canon still happen, -which Motoko probably wouldn't want to change, seeing how she's doing V a favor by letting her get kicked out of Arasaka. Well something funny would happen with the timing. You'd have Motoko more or less just coming into her 'legend' while V is currently an unknown merc at rock bottom who just scraped together enough money for an apartment and a car. Having just moved out of her friends mother's attic.

It could be quite the fun role reversal.
