A/N – The long awaited date is here! What will these crazy kids get up to?
Hinata woke up with an excited fluttering in her chest. It was her first date with Kakashi, and she was eagerly looking forward to it. At first. Then she remembered that she would have to actually get dressed for a date, and the anxiety began.
The only dates she had been on so far were friendly hang-outs with Team 8, and when Sasuke decided she needed to be involved in whatever scheme he was concocting. Which was a long-winded way of saying she had never been on a date before.
At first, she held the anxiety at bay by preparing food for the picnic. Some refreshing morokyu, ume onigiri and egg salad sandwiches with green tea to drink. She would get some yakitori on her way as well. Kakashi was not too fond of sweets, so she made some fruit salad for dessert that they would have with fresh whipped cream.
It took quite a while to make everything and pack it, but once it was done, the anxiety came roaring back.
'Casual? Semi-casual? Not formal. Wrap skirt? What if it comes undone? Maybe just my uniform, Kakashi will probably be in his uniform. But what if he is not? It will seem like I am not serious!'
She had turned out the contents of her closet and was standing and staring at them for the third time, when she heard a knock on her front door. Her palms grew sweaty and all colour left her face.
'He's here!?'
It cannot be lunchtime already!
The person outside knocked again, snapping her out of her panic. She went to the door, and stood there for a moment with her hand on the doorknob. She could pretend she hadn't heard anything (for all the extra time it will give her).
There was a third, heavier knock, and Hinata finally decided to rip off the bandaid and opened it, coming face to face with Kurenai and Hanabi.
"Onee-san, Hanabi-chan, hello." Hinata said, with a mildly stressed, but mostly relieved smile. "How can I help you?"
Kurenai smiled at her and gave her a hug as they came in and went to her bedroom. "Today, we're here to help you, Hinata-chan."
"You have a dress picked out yet?" Hanabi asked, readying herself to jump onto the bed and stopping at the last moment when she saw the clutter there. Hangers did not make for a comfortable landing. "So, that's a no."
"You think I should wear a dress?" Hinata fingered the hem of a peach-coloured dress unsurely, holding it up to her chest and frowning.
"Hinata," Kurenai sat down on the desk chair, with Hanabi perching on the desk itself. "First, calm down. Deep breaths. Jishin."
Hinata nodded and breathed in deep, clearing a little space at the edge of her bed to sit down. She took a sip of water while she was at it and did indeed feel a little better.
"Okay, I am calm. I am calm."
Kurenai and Hanabi looked unconvinced, but kindly didn't bring attention to it.
"So," Kurenai said, looking through the clothes on the bed. It looked like Rock Lee had jogged through her room. "Where is the date?"
"It's a picnic date."
Hanabi gestured for further details.
"In the clearing with the waterfall, where I train."
"Okay." Kurenai nodded, and sifted through. "So something that will be comfortable to sit on the ground with."
After half-an-hour of heated discussion between Kurenai and Hanabi regarding what outfits to wear, during which Hinata just looked on silently and left her fate in their hands, they finally had a consensus.
A white off-the-shoulder top, with a purple high-waisted skirt, white stockings and black flats. She was still wearing her earrings, and had tied up her hair in a ponytail with a white ribbon. Hanabi insisted on at least some makeup and Hinata was indifferent to it, so they compromised, and Hinata agreed to eyeliner and light lipstick.
"So?" Hinata asked, doing a twirl.
Kurenai smiled and pet her cheeks. "You look so very pretty, Hinata-chan. Kakashi won't know what hit him." She said with a wink, making Hinata blush and giggle.
"Thank you, Onee-san. Although are we sure about the stockings?" Hinata asked, looking at Hanabi unsurely.
"Why not?"
"You have said, time and again, that I should 'show more leg'." Hinata said with finger quotes.
"Usually, yes." Hanabi agreed easily. "But Hokage-sama seems like the kind of pervert who appreciates stockings. You've got it!"
Hinata gaped in shock as Kurenai gave a scandalised laugh. Hanabi gave her a cheerful thumbs up and a rascally grin, descending into cackles.
"Hanabi!"

Kakashi woke up to the sweet chirping of birds, more than excited for his long-awaited date with Hinata. There was a lovely smell in the air, the sunlight warming him up gently. If this is how being in love made you feel, Kakashi can understand why people fall again and again (mostly to their own detriment, but that's none of his business).
Kakashi got up and entered his bathroom, feeling giddy in a way one would have expected in his teenage years.
He took a shower, made himself presentable and went to the kitchen, deciding to address the smell of okonomiyaki emanating from there.
"Morning, Pup!"
"What's up, Bakashi?"
"Why are you here and how did you get in?" Kakashi asked, mostly unbothered.
Sakumo grinned at him from his place at the stove, flipping the okonomiyaki. "Well, my boy's going on a date for the first time in... ever, I think. I have to be here to witness this."
Kakashi hummed doubtfully, turning to Obito, who grinned at him threateningly.
"You're going on a date with my student, Bakashi. I need to make sure everything goes at least marginally well."
Notably, neither of them addressed the how. Sakumo placed the plate in front of Kakashi and took a seat at the table.
"You think I won't be a good date." Kakashi stated between bites (perfecting the art of eating without removing his mask came handy in situations like this).
"I think you're going to be the worst time she's ever had." Obito shot back, looking smug. "Allow me to give you an example."
Kakashi hummed condescendingly.
"Food. What are you going to eat?" Obito said, raising his fingers to count on them. "She likes sweets, you hate sweets. You like seafood, she hates seafood. You don't like fried stuff! Even karaage's out of the question and everyone eats that! If you do start seriously dating, what will the poor girl feed you?"
"The fact that you're bringing this up shows you haven't read a word of my dossier." Instead of the concern Obito was expecting, Kakashi's smug condescension only increased. "Not that I expected anything else from you. Appendix 3, page 31."
Obito was steaming like a furious kettle and looked about ready to attack Kakashi. "Bakashi, I swear by your patchy fucking beard – "
"I don't have a beard."
"He doesn't have a beard..." This was notably said with considerable uncertainty.
"Prove it!"
Both Obito and Kakashi glared at each other as Obito threw down the gauntlet and Sakumo decided to butt in before they destroyed the Hokage's Residence.
"Boys, let's focus on the issue at hand, alright?" He gave both of them his best Dad Stare. This was so much easier when they still respected him.
There was a petulant silence, and Obito waited impatiently while Kakashi finished breakfast.
After that painful ordeal was over, they got down to important (allegedly) business.
"So," Obito began, "Your date. When, where, how?"
"This afternoon, I don't know, none of your business."
Obito wound up to yell at him again when the entire reply registered.
"What do you mean you don't know!?"
"She said she wanted to take me somewhere special to her." Kakashi said, aware of the gooey look on his face and unconcerned entirely. It's not like they'll be able to see it, anyway.
Obito looked at him strangely. "You are being taken to an unknown location and you don't care?"
"If it's unknown no one will be able to interrupt us."
Sakumo smiled at Kakashi, tousled his hair, and casually said, "You worry me sometimes, Pup."
"It'll keep you spry, Old Man."
"Leaving concerning behaviour aside, we came here to get you ready for your date." Obito said, raising his chin in a manner that said that he will have to be kicked out for any amount of peace to be obtained. Kakashi had, unfortunately, suffered this manner many times in the past, and was sure he would suffer it further in the future. "Who knows what poor Hinata-chan will have to go through, if we leave it to you."
Kakashi gave him a look, "What the hell would I need your help with? You think I'm the kind of idiot who would wear my uniform to a date and make her feel self-conscious?"
The silence was telling. And honestly, he expected his own father to know better. He informed him of such. His father only smiled sheepishly at him.
"Regardless," Sakumo said, rudely not addressing the assumption he had made and slapping Kakashi's back. "I would like to be here with you. Think of it as a boys' night out!"
"It's morning."
"Spiritually."
"Hm."

Hinata was walking through Konoha with her picnic basket, on her way to the waterfall. She had gotten yakitori (and some beef skewers as well), and was fairly sure the date would go well (food-wise, at the very least). She activated her Byakugan, and saw Kakashi across Konoha, leaving Training Ground 12.
She had offered to wait for him so they could go together, since she was sure he didn't know where it was, but he had said he would find his way there himself. She was still not sure how he would do that, but he had insisted, and so she had relented.
She went to deactivate her Dōjutsu, when she noticed, near the Konoha Public Library...
Neji and Lee.
'Oh no...'
Hinata quickened her pace. She was well out of his range, she could get to the clearing without being seen.
If Neji found out she was on a date, he would definitely interrupt, over-protective cousin that he was, and she in no way wanted that.
_
Kakashi was on his way from Training Ground 12 to his date, being followed by three little ducklings.
'Now, how to shake them off? Genjutsu would be fun, but Sasuke would see through it. Hmm'
He quickly shunshined out of their line of sight and created a Kage Bunshin, sending it off to keep his little students busy.
'Just like old times. We'll see how fast they figure it out'
Now that that was dealt with, he went back to following Hinata. She had offered to pick him up so they could go together, sweetheart that she was, but there was just something intoxicatingly irresistible about following her, mostly because it was nearly impossible to catch her unawares.
It continued like that until the last few 100 metres, where Kakashi joined her, and they both got a good look at each other.
_
"Hello, Hinata-chan." Kakashi greeted her, slowly looking her up and down. From the cute little white bow holding up her hair, her pretty dolled-up face ('Just for me, how sweet'), the white top (off-the-shoulder, easy access for hickies), purple skirt, stockings ('Yes!') and black flats, and all the way back up to her now blushing face. "You look beautiful."
"T-Thank you, Kakashi-kun." Hinata said, her blush increasing as she looked at Kakashi. He was wearing a fitted black shirt that outlined his muscles well, the bandanna over his eye making him look delectably rougish.
'Deep breaths, Hinata! Do not faint on your first date!'
"Y-You look v-very handsome as well." She stammered, then cleared her throat and tried to fight the blush on her face. 'Looking like a tomato is not attractive at all, get a grip!'
Kakashi reached for Hinata's hand and brought it up to his lips. "I'm glad you think so, Hinata-chan. I have to admit I was hoping to impress you."
Electricity went up Hinata's arm from her knuckles and she snatched her hand back on reflex to hide her face.
Kakashi laughed lowly seeing her being so shy. 'Cute'
"Y-You don't need t-to dress up to be i-i-impressive, K-Kakashi-sensei."
'Kakashi-sensei, huh? I can work with that'
Hinata felt Kakashi move behind her and as she turned to look back, she was embraced within his arms. She felt his face come nearer and despaired. She was definitely fainting after this. Deep breaths. She just has to keep taking deep breaths.
"Sensei, Hinata-chan?" Kakashi whispered in her ear. Hinata felt his breath hit her ear and pinched herself to stay aware. "On the first date as well? How forward! Do you have something you would like to tell me?"
Hinata fainted.
_
Kakashi held onto Hinata, her head falling on his shoulder as she fainted. Teasing her was so much fun!
He could hear the waterfall from where they were standing, and felt fairly confident that he could find the clearing by himself. He moved an arm under her legs and swung them up to carry her, following the sound of water.
The clearing where they were having the picnic was big enough without being vulnerable. There was a large waterfall with clear, sparkling blue water, with some rocks scattered around, large enough to stand on.
Kakashi was awestruck. It was hard to believe such a place could be hidden.
Just as he was about to put her down under the shade of a tree, he felt her stirring, her hand resting on his shoulder tightening briefly.
"Hinata-chan? How are you feeling?"
Hinata raised her head and blinked quickly, looking around. "Oh, we are here! Did I faint?"
"You did." Kakashi put her down on her feet, still holding onto her in case her legs were not up to the task. He sounded entirely too pleased about that, in Hinata's opinion, but he quickly put on an admirable show of contrition. "I'm afraid I overdid it with the teasing."
"Yes, yes you did." Hinata looked away as she said it, but he could hear the smile in her voice. She opened the basket and took out the blanket, spreading it in the shade. They both sat down.
"What do you think?" Hinata asked as she unpacked the basket, nodding towards the clearing.
"It's lovely." Kakashi replied honestly.
"I come here to train." Hinata said, looking around as well, feeling peaceful. This clearing had seen her at some of her highest and lowest moments, and she always came here whenever she could. "The water makes it easier to see chakra, and it helps me practice my Jūken."
The fact that this was a way to train herself because there was no one she could train with, as far as Jūken was concerned, remained unsaid but understood. Neji had tried to help her train, but that had come later.
Both sat there, for hours, eating and chatting, with no thought given to the time passing. Kakashi had an arm around her shoulders, holding her close to him. He was listening to her animatedly tell a humorous story about Hanabi, nunchucks, Kiba's 'Service Animal' vest (it was among 2 of Konoha's greatest mysteries regarding Kiba. The first was how he managed to keep the vest's origins a secret) and Neji's hair conditioner. As he saw her eyes, bright with happiness and felt her snuggling close to him absently, he was overcome with the desire to kiss her and pull her impossibly closer, until they were one.
Hinata was stopped abruptly when she felt a hand at her chin, raising her head to look Kakashi in the eye. Her eyes widened and her breath came faster at his intense gaze.
Kakashi's mask was down, his face on display. A straight nose, thin lips and a mole under his mouth drawing attention to them. 'Don't faint, don't faint, don't faint'. Hinata couldn't stop staring and his lips turned up in a smirk. His canines looked sharper than she had expected. She could feel her cheeks reddening.
"Like what you see?"
Hinata nodded mutely. Kakashi's thumb caressed her lip, pushing into her mouth briefly and then coming back out.
"Would you like to feel it as well?"
At Hinata's furious nod, Kakashi closed in the distance and, placed his lips on hers, the hand on her chin moving to support her head while the other went to her back, fingers twirling into her hair. Hinata's arms went over his shoulders, holding onto him as his lips caressed hers.
Their lips moved together, sending heat down their spines. Hinata moaned as she felt his teeth prick her lip, and tasted blood. Kakashi pulled her into his lap, taking advantage of her surprised gasp, his tongue entering her mouth to tangle with hers.
As their tongues danced together, Hinata restlessly shifted on top of him, making him moan. She felt the need to do something with her hands, which were, so far, resting on his shoulders. She moved them to his neck, massaging it as they kissed.
_
They made out like that for a while, until they noticed that the sun had mostly set, which was their cue to return back to the village.
They made their way past Yakiniku Q, careful to stay out of sight of Team 10 (who were having an early dinner), lest they be taken hostage to provide one Yamanaka Ino, Gossip Queen with details of their date.
Suddenly, both Kakashi and Hinata grabbed each other and made for the alley next to Yakiniku Q, holding their breaths.
"I can't believe Teme dragged us all over Konoha for nothing!" Naruto was complaining to Lee, who patted his back sympathetically (a little too hard, but the sentiment was understood and appreciated). "He just fucking disappeared, and then acted like it was our fault Sensei tricked us!"
"I understand, Naruto-kun." Lee nodded saintly, jogging lightly around Naruto (Kakashi wasn't sure he had ever actually seen Lee walk, actually). "Neji, my eternal rival, also chose to hunt Hinata-sama and her date throughout Konoha. Fortunately, we were not successful."
Naruto looked at him, puzzled. "Fortunately?"
Lee gesticulated as he loudly spoke. "Why, Naruto-kun, when love forms, the Flames of Youth demand that we respect the adoring couple's privacy!"
Their voices faded as they walked away, and the hidden couple took a relieved breath.
Their eyes met, and they laughed lowly. What a stereotypical thing to be doing as a couple, dodging various friends and family.
"Think I can drop you back home without Neji and Sasuke finding us?" Kakashi asked, eyes twinkling in good humour.
Hinata checked with her Byakugan. Neji was in Kurenai's house (possibly attempting to interrogate her as to her whereabouts, with little-to-no success) and Sasuke was with Shino and Sakura just outside Konoha Hospital.
Hinata grinned and kissed him. "Why don't we find out?"
A/N – Kakashi, looking at okonomiyaki (a la 'is this a pigeon' meme): Is this love?
Kiba's service animal vest is his vest that Hinata made for him that he wears. It was for a mission. Only Team 8 and Minato know how and why it became necessary, they refuse to tell anyone else.
