"It appears that crossing over multiple worlds gives those two more trouble than they would normally expect."
"Indeed, master. What is the tactic now?"
"We must use a being that can think much faster than them." The dark being muttered, "Perhaps instead of trying to defeat them in a physical fight, we should best them in a battle of wits."
"Well… There is a certain location that I was thinking of…"
"And that was how the New Years party got ruined." Superman finished as he and Goku were traveling through the portal gate towards the new world.
"Wow. That almost reminds me of the time Beerus nearly ruined a dinner party that we were having for Gohan's first job promotion." Goku wonder aloud.
"Crazy how these things just kinda happened to us."
"You ever wonder why these sorts of things just never happen to other people?"
"Well, I'm sure that Batman has some stories. If not him, maybe Nightwing."
"Hey, our destination's coming up. Let's get ready."
"Well, this is odd." Goku stated.
"You're telling me. We have to beat this guy in a card game if we want to beat him for real."
"What?- No. Not that. I'm talking about all these new cards and stuff. What the heck happened to the game?"
"I'm… I'm not following." Superman deadpanned.
"At the occasional Shonen Get-Togethers, the first three major characters of this franchise come by for it and have fun. They mostly spend time with Jotaro though. Don't really know why."
"So the last era you were actively aware of was…"
"The one with the motorcycles." Goku answered, "Gotta say, they were kinda cool-looking. Not as cool as those flying motorcycles from before, but still pretty creative."
"I guess so. Wait, so they had card games on motorcy-"
"Yep. It was pretty cool, and they had an entire ruleset for it too." Goku cut off, "What the heck is a 'Pendulum Monster'?"
"How are you able to keep up with this better than me?"
"Like I said: Shonen Get-Togethers." Goku shrugged, "I kinda know this game a little bit already… Oh you gotta be kidding me, what rule is this?"
"Well, I guess I should stick with what I know." Superman guessed, "So uh, have the rules changed at all?"
"Hey, like I said: I haven't really met that… Yugi, I think his name is. I only know about him because he and Jotaro hang out a lot." Goku replied, "What the… 'Extra Monster Zone'? What are they talking about?" He muttered.
"Why haven't you?"
Goku motioned his friend over, "He's not really from a battle manga." He said in a hushed voice.
"Okay. That somehow explains everything and nothing at the same time." Superman deadpanned, "Any idea what era we're in?"
"No clue. But the fact that the Duel Disks are solid and not Hard Light or digital is a good sign."
"They had hard light?"
"Hey! It's been a while for me." Goku replied, "For all we know, this is a one-time thing, and this might end up going back to hard light at some point."
"Whatever. We have a tournament to win."
"Right. Let's do our best!"
"And today, in our interdimensional team dueling tournament! We are here for one heck of a tourney! Many duelists from all over the timeline and galaxy are here to compete in the tournament of the ages for one grand prize: Facing me! Now introducing our Duelists. Combatant 1: Representing the planet of… Whatever! It's… GOL'GAR! I hope to Odium that I'm pronouncing that right!"
"This is the guy we have to beat?" Goku asked under his breath.
"He sounds like a more egotistical Booster Gold… A regular Booster Gold… Fueled by unimaginable cosmic eldritch power…"
"So… Hal Jordan, then?- Or you in that one timeline?"
"We don't talk about that incident."
"If you say so."
The announcer continued, "Staring them down is the pathetic, the lame, boring, cliched! Team 12! The meek Team KalKarrot!"
"Should I be offended?"
"It's alright, Goku. I'm feeling the same way."
"Now, players! Ready your Decks, and now we all know what time it is!" The announcer called out to the crowd.
…
"Ahem, I said, 'WE ALL KNOW WHAT TIME IT IS!'"
…
"If you don't cheer, you'll get sucked into a dimension of eternal pain, torment, and despair."
"WOO!"
"YEAH!"
"GO KALKARROT!"
"Eh, credit where it's due, the dub team somehow made death sound appealing."
"The rules are simple. We play on the revised Master Rule 4 rules. Commonly referred to as 'Master Rule 5' by many people. Starting player does not draw, each player starts with 8000 life points, etcetera etcetera. Just thought that you would want to know what you're getting into, Son Goku. I'm sure you're used to coming in after the fight, but let's start with you." The announcer commented.
"I've been in the same room as the original King of Games. I think I know what I'm doing." Goku sneered.
"Regardless, the arena has a special translator active. You won't have to worry about your opponent not speaking your native language or visa versa. Good luck, Son Goku. You'll need it."
Goku's opponent appeared and readied his Deck, "YOU! I WILL DEFEAT YOU! I WILL BRING JUSTICE TO MY WORLD! I, GOL'GAR, WILL DESTROY YOU!"
"I've heard this speech before. Let's just get going!"
"LET'S DUEL!"
Goku: 8000.
Gol'gar: 8000.
"NATIVES FIRST!" Gol'gar declared as he looked at his hand, "I SUMMON… ALIEN SHOCKTROOPER TO THE FIELD IN ATTACK MODE! AND I'LL SET ONE CARD FACE DOWN. YOUR MOVE!" Gol'gar declared as his monsters manifested on the field.
"With 1900 Attack points, Goku's going to have some trouble getting over that." Superman thought.
"Alright, my turn then! I draw." Goku looked at his hand, "I activate, Reinforcements of the Army! Letting me add… Gouki Suprex to my hand! And now I'll summon… Gouki Suprex!" He declared as his monster also manifested on the field, "And since I summoned him, I get to call out… Gouki Tagpartner! With a force of 1700!"
"DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT A LINK SUMMON! I ACTIVATE OFFERINGS TO THE SNAKE DEITY! I SACRIFICE MY MONSTER, AND YOUR TWO CARDS GET DESTROYED!"
The trap card activated and, as Goku's opponent said, it caused his monsters to be destroyed.
"Suprex was sent to the graveyard! I get to add Gouki Twistcobra to my hand! I'll end my turn with a face-down and Gouki Cage Match!"
"ABOUT TIME! DRAW! I CALL TO THE FIELD, WHAT YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN! AN ALIEN WARRIOR IN ATTACK MODE! AND JUST SO THAT HE ISN'T LONELY, I SPECIAL SUMMON ALIEN'S BEST FRIEND TO THE FIELD! ALIEN DOG! NOW ATTACK, MY MONSTERS! SHOW THIS PATHETIC SAIYAN WHAT IT TRULY MEANS TO DUEL!"
"GAH! Ugh… That hurt…" Goku commented as his Life Points dropped from 8000 to 4700.
"And Goku's Life Points almost drop by half! It looks like protagonist luck isn't on his side this time!" The announcer called out as the crowd watched in horror as what was likely their only savior, dropped in pain.
"Magic. Of course it's magic." Superman muttered, "C'mon, Goku. You can bounce back."
"GO! CREATE MY CONQUERING CIRCUIT! THE SUMMONING CONDITIONS ARE TWO REPTILES! I SET MY ALIEN WARRIOR AND ALIEN DOG IN THE LINK ARROWS! I LINK SUMMON: ALIEN SHOCKTROOPER MIGHTY/FRAME!" Gol'gar chuckled darkly, "YOUR MOVE!"
"DRAW! Check it! I've got no monsters, so I can summon Gouki Riscorpio to the field, no sacrifices included! And he's way stronger than your guy! Attack! Take him down!"
"IF I USE MY MONSTER'S ABILITY, I CAN DISCARD ALIEN TELEPATH TO ADD FOUR A-COUNTERS TO YOUR MONSTER!" Gol'gar shouted in defiance as his Life Points went from 8000 to 7600.
"And the annoying, petulant, deadbeat Son Goku, draws his first blood as well." The announcer snarled, "But with Mighty/Frame's destruction, comes a rebirth! Gol'gar is free to summon any Alien he wants from his Graveyard!"
"RESURRECT! ALIEN WARRIOR! AND WHEN AN ALIEN MONSTER BATTLES ANOTHER MONSTER WITH AN 'A-COUNTER', MY ENEMY'S MONSTER LOSES 300 FOR EACH COUNTER!"
"Okay, I was dead for most of that. So you can't blame me. But either way, I play my face-down card! Gouki Face Turn lets me swap out Riscorpio for Suprex! And I think I'll leave it at that."
"What? GOKU! You forgot your monster's effects!" Superman called out.
"Wait what? Oh crap! Can I get a do ov-"
"NOT A CHANCE! I SACRIFICE MY WARRIOR TO SUMMON ALIEN OVERLORD! NOW ATTACK!"
Goku's Life Points dropped to 4300, as his monster was destroyed, "I won't forget this time! I play Suprex's ability! Come on out, Bearhug!"
"And despite an absolutely dismal play by the idiot, he still fights on. Can Gol'gar defeat this defiant, annoying, exasperating hero?"
"I really wish he'd shut up." Goku muttered, "I draw! I play one card face-down, and then I'll bust out: Gouki Twistcobra! I think I'll leave it there."
"PATHETIC! I DRAW! NOW I ACTIVATE A SPELL CARD! THE POWER OF MY RECOMBINATION DEVICE LETS ME SEND ALIEN AMMONITE TO THE GRAVEYARD TO PLACE AN A-COUNTER ON YOUR MONSTER!"
"Wait, Gol'gar can't be stupid enough to attack a monster knowing that Goku likely has a card set to counter, can he?"
"OVERLORD: ATTACK! DESTROY HIS TWISTCOBRA NOW!"
"Go! Magic Cylinder! Reflect his attack right back at him!" Goku declared, "Alright, that about closed the gap a bit. Let's keep going. Anything left?"
"GRAH! JUST GO!"
"Thought so. I draw. Hmm… I sacrifice Twistcobra to summon Bearhug! And since Twistcobra was sent to the grave, I can add Headbatt to my hand. And I can also half your monster's Attack Points thanks to Bearhug's effect! Now attack!"
Gol'gar's Life Points dropped to 4100 as his monster was destroyed, "BLAST IT, SAIYAN! I'M NOT OUT YET!"
"Then go. It's your move now."
"I WILL! I DRAW! No…" Gol'gar fell to his knees in defeat, "I end my turn."
"What? NO!" The announcer shouted.
"I draw. I summon Suprex to add another Bearhug to my hand. Then I'll show off Gouki Moonsault to let me return Suprex to the hand so I can special summon it. Good duel. But I have a world to save. I attack with my monsters!"
Gol'gar solemnly closed his eyes as he accepted defeat.
"Thank you, Son Goku. Please. Release this world from this invader's grip."
Goku picked up on the thought wave. And hung his head as his monsters' combined Attack Points depleted the remainder of Gol'gar's Life Points.
Goku: 4300
Gol'gar: 0
The announcer sneered at the fallen duelist and waved his hand.
Gol'gar dissipated.
"Nice work out there, Goku."
"Yeah… Shame though. I would have liked to face off against him again. Without the world being at stake."
"I'm sure a lot of the duelists here would. Who knows?- Maybe when we beat that announcer guy, we'll be able to do so." Superman comforted.
"Up next: Hopefully someone who isn't a dissapointment, ROSEMARY!" The announcer called out, "And her opponent: The boring Supperman."
"Is that just going to be a running thing?- People from other worlds mispronouncing my name?"
"Speaking of, what should we have for supper anyways?- I was thinking about fried shrimp." Goku trailed off.
"Well, here's hoping my match goes a bit better than yours did."
Unlike Goku's opponent, which looked straight out of something from H.P Lovecraft, Superman's opponent looked like a young woman that wouldn't feel out of place as a more benevolent Poison Ivy. But more importantly, she looked… scared.
"Uh… If it means anything, I'm sorry I have to face you down. But my home will be destroyed if I don't stop you." Rosemary offered.
"I understand." Superman consoled, "But I have to let you know: I won't be holding back."
"Likewise. Shame that a game that was originally made for fun got so corrupted though." She glared at the announcer, "Some people simply won't allow others to have fun anymore."
"I can relate."
"Enough with the talk! Time to duel! The rules are the same as before! 8000 points each. Master Rule 4.1 is in effect. Duelist on your mark… Get set…"
"DUEL!"
Superman: 8000
Rosemary: 8000
"By all means, Ladies first."
"Very well then. I'll start by activating the Goblin Thief spell card! This allows me to 'steal' 500 points from you!" Rosemary's life points raised to 8500 while Superman's dropped to 7500, "I'll set a monster and end my turn."
"You remind me of someone…" Superman trailed off, "But I can't give up. My turn! Draw! I summon Elemental HERO Prisma to the field. And by showing you Elemental HERO Plasma Vice, I can send Bladedge to the graveyard." He went on as his play was not interrupted, "Next up, by activating Monster Reborn, I can revive any monster in the Graveyard. Come on back, Elemental HERO Bladedge!" Superman had two powerful monsters on the field, and he was ready to attack, "Bladedge! Go! Edge Hammer!"
"My monster is Aroma Jar! Who can't be destroyed in battle if it's flipped face up!" Rosemary called out.
"Bladedge can fight through a monster's defenses though. You still take the damage!" Superman pointed out.
Rosemary struggled against the damage as she looked into Superman's eyes and smirked.
"I'll end by using E - Emergency Call to add the Elemental HERO Blazeman to my hand."
"At the end phase of the turn, Aroma Jar gives me 500 points." Rosemary said as her Life Points rose to 6800, "I'll have to leave it there though." She said as she looked at the card she drew.
"I draw then. I'll place one card face-down, and then I'll summon the Elemental HERO Blazeman to the field! Who lets me add Polymerization to my hand! Now I'll activate it! Go! HERO Blazeman on the field! Merge with the one in my hand and Prisma to create a new HERO! Heroes come together and center yourselves into a new force of truth, justice, and freedom! I Fusion Summon: The Elemental HERO Core!" Superman declared as his monster descended from the spiral and touched down.
"Interesting. I assume it has an ability to get past Aroma Jar?" Rosemary quipped.
"You got that right. But first, Bladedge! Deal some damage!" Superman's HERO monster attacked the Aroma Jar, inflicting 2200 more points of damage onto Rosemary, dropping her Life Points down to 4600, "Now Core, Your turn! Attack with Electromagnetic Induction!"
"Aroma Jar is still invincible in battle! It seems the Man of Steel is just that dumb that he thinks that he can just punch his way out of any situation. Am I right folks?" The announcer asked the audience as many of them just shifted around. One even coughed.
"Ah, what do you guys know anyway?"
"I play Core's ability! After it battles, I can target a monster you control, and destroy it!"
Rosemary grunted as Aroma Jar was destroyed.
"I draw! I place one card face-down, and then I summon Aromage Canaga. That'll do."
"Hmm…" Superman looked suspicious, but continued on anyways, "Draw. I summon, Elemental HERO Woodsman. And then, I'll attack with Bladedge!"
"Go, Draining Shield! This stops your attack, and gives me Life Points equal to the attack points of the monster. And then, I get to send any Spell or Trap card you control back to your hand thanks to Canaga's ability."
"That still leaves Core and Woodsman to take her down." Superman pointed out, "Attack!"
Rosemary's Life dropped to 5900, and then to 4900 after the respective attacks of Superman's monsters.
"I'll just re-set this, and leave it there."
"I draw. I set a monster in Defense mode and activate Aroma Garden. Now, whenever an Aroma monster is destroyed, I get back 1000 Life Points. That'll do for now."
"I draw. I'll use Woodsman's ability to get back the Polymerization I used a few turns ago. Interesting play style. Though, I do have to admit that it's a shame."
"Shame about what?" Rosemary asked.
"You threw the duel." Superman pointed out.
"WHAT?" The announcer asked incredulously, "What is he talking about, wench?"
"I have no idea what you're talking about. I just got a bad hand." She said as she glared at the announcer.
"Of course you did. It happens to the best of us." Superman sighed and chuckled at the same time.
"Just make your move." Rosemary replied, "The sooner I don't have to listen to this jerk's condescending attitude, the better."
"Alright. Bladedge! Attack!" Superman declared as Rosemary's Life Points dropped from 4900 to 2300.
"My Garden gives me back 1000 Life Points!" Rosemary called out, as her Life Points went back up to 3300.
"I know. Core attacks! Then Woodsman!" Superman knelt his head down as his final attack connected and reduced Rosemary's Life Points to 0.
"Take… Take him down, Superman…" Rosemary whispered as she fell down and was dissipated by the announcer's hand wave.
"I will. I hope we can duel again sometime. For real. Without a threat to our lives." Superman swore.
"Tch, and people wonder why women aren't good duelists." The announcer sneered.
"Hey! Just because she lost, doesn't mean that women are bad duelists!' Goku snarled, "I've seen my fair share of women that can take me, Vegeta, or even Beerus in a fight! So don't you go around saying stuff like that!"
"Very well, Super Saiyan. You've just volunteered to fight the next opponent. I was going to take them on myself, but you seem to be a glutton for punishment." The announcer said.
"Please. We don't even know your name." Superman said, "What threat do you pose to us?"
"Ha! Fools! You face Deceds Coinngn!" The announcer declared, "I have the traits of all the previous antagonists. The ruthlessness of Bakura, the powers of Darkness, the technological advances of Z-ONE, the intelligence of Don Thousand, the strength of Z-ARC, and the thought speed of Bohman!"
"… Yeah, I only recognized the first one." Goku admitted.
The duels carried on. With many close calls, and many more duel spirits meeting a terrible fate.
"Let's Rock the Dragon! I Link Summon: Gouki the Great Ogre! And now The Great Ogre attacks Aqlipthort Skybase, and finishes off the rest of your life points! Ogre Axe!" Goku declared as his monster moved in to attack.
Goku: 1500
Aqlipthort Towers: 0
"Super Polymerization combines my Elemental HERO Wildheart with your Mermail Abyssbalaen! A new force freezes evil in its tracks! The tip of the iceberg: Elemental HERO Absolute Zero! Now attack! Instant Freeze!"
Superman: 1300
Mermail Abyssgaios: 0
"Grr… And the duo of Superman and Goku win again." Deceds snarled. At this rate, his plan was never going to work. For him to trap either Goku or Superman, they would either have to break the rules, or lose a duel. And at the rate they were going at, that wasn't happening any time soon. Even against opponents using much more powerful Decks, they still managed to pull off wins. And nothing he could do seemed to work. Neither Goku or Superman had cheated in any capacity, and both showed excellent sportsmanship.
It was infuriating. How dare they make this competitive game fun? How dare they make it so that anyone could win? How dare they be inclusive in trying to inspire others? This game was going to hell if some random kid on the street were to pick it up and have fun. Didn't they know that this was a competitive game? There is no honor in defeat. Only victory.
"Deceds! We've beaten your chosen duelists! When are you going to uphold your end of the deal?" Superman challenged.
"Yeah! You even brought back old losers to try and take us down again. Are you so scared of losing?" Goku taunted.
"What's the matter, Saiyan? Upset that you can't just punch your way out of this situation?- Oh wait, you're upset that you now have to think, aren't you?" Deceds sneered, knowing full well what was coming.
"Why you!"
"Goku. It's not worth it." Superman chided.
"You're right… Sorry. I just… I just want a crack at him, y'know?"
"I understand. I feel the same way." Superman nodded.
"Oh, how cute. The mighty Son Goku taking orders from Superman. And here I thought that you were a fighter. But you're just as weak and pathetic as those other duelists that I-"
"THAT'S IT!" Goku charged at Deceds with full power, shooting him with multiple Ki Blasts before striking him physically with several punches.
"UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT!" Deceds declared as his voice sent Goku back, "Face your punishment, Son Goku! You'll have fun in the… penalty box." He waved his hand and Goku disappeared.
"What the- What did you do to him?"
"Sent him to a place where he can't cause anymore trouble. Be happy Superman. I just got rid of some dead weight.
"If… When I beat you, you're going to return my friend and return anyone else you've taken back to their worlds." Superman snarled.
"I'm quaking in my boots." Deceds mocked, "Bring it on. You have another opponent waiting. On the off chance that you do beat them, I'll allow you to do battle with me."
"Well, that was a lot more painful than I expected." Goku got up and looked around, "Figured that he'd put you all in the same place. 'Sup, Yugi?"
In front of Goku, in shackles were the Duelists of Legend. Yugi Muto, the original King of Games. Jaden Yuki, the second bearer of the torch. Yusei Fudo, Satellite's Shooting Star. Yuma Tsukumo, the Number Hunter. Yuya Sakaki, the mighty dueltainer. And Yusaku Fujiki, the Playmaker.
"Son Goku. What the…?"
"What the heck happened?"
"It's a long story." Yusei admitted.
"Then shorten it. We don't have much time."
"In a nutshell, we were all ambushed." Yusaku explained, "We don't know what happened, but no matter what we did, this… Deceds Coinngn managed to beat all of us. We couldn't even surmonut a counter-attack."
"Please. I would've had him if I had gotten a monster instead of Polymerization." Jaden muttered.
"Well, let's get you out of here." Goku said as he used a Ki Blast to release the duelists from their shackles
"How? We'd have to fight our way through all those guards, and we don't even have our Decks or anything to fight back with!" Yuma pointed out.
"Ah contract."
"I think you mean 'Au Contraire'" Jaden deadpanned.
"When I rushed the guy earlier, I grabbed your Decks. Gentlemen, it's time to duel." Goku handed everyone their Decks.
"Sweet!"
"All right." Yusei exclaimed, "but we don't have enough time to duel through all those guys."
"Not an issue." Jaden said, "This dimension… feels familiar. I think we can summon our monsters as actual fighters here."
"Jaden's right." Yugi said, "I can't explain it, but I think that this world is much more concentrated with a strange energy that will let us do it."
"Well, better hurry. I can sense some guards closing in. I guess they must have noticed that I freed you guys. Better get ready."
"Freaking Saiyan. Making us go in and do the dirty work…" Guard one complained.
"Don't you start. Besides, what can these seven possibly do? We can't be harmed unless it's by another Duel Spirit. And there's no way that Saiyan can possibly fend us all off." Another of a hundred guards chided.
"Still, it's so annoying. Why can't these fools just sit down and watch their precious world be destroyed-"
*CRASH!*
"Dark Magician!"
*CRASH!*
"Elemental HERO Neos!"
*CRASH!*
"Stardust Dragon!"
*CRASH!*
"Number 39: Utopia!"
*CRASH!*
"Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon!"
*CRASH!*
"Decode Talker!"
"Oh…"
"… Dang."
"ATTACK!"
"Absolute Zero! Attack Gem-Knight Pearl and clear out Master Diamond's monsters!" Superman called out as his monster attacked, but was defeated, reducing his Life Points to 700, "Now, Bladedge! Finish him off! Edge Hammer!"
Gem-Knight Master Diamond: 0
Superman: 700
"Now, I believe that we had a deal." Superman turned towards Deceds, who looked towards the exit.
"You'll never catch me!" Deceds tried to run, much to the crowd's displeasure. The guy forced all of them to come together to watch him duel and now he's trying to bail out?
The audacity.
"I don't think so! Go Spiral Flame Strike!" A beam of flames cut off Deceds' exit plan. And as he looked towards the other exits, he saw the duelists he had trapped earlier, as well as Goku guarding the exits.
"You stole the Decks."
"I stole the Decks." Goku explained to Superman.
"Very well then. I suppose I have no other choice but to face you in a duel." Deceds growled, "Be warned: I won't be holding back."
"I don't expect you to." Superman shot back.
"Superman! Take these cards! They'll help you!" Jaden threw some cards to the Man of Steel, who nodded and the sided appropriately.
"Add the Egyptian Gods for all I care. You won't win."
"Then let this be our final battle." Superman declared.
"DUEL!"
Deceds Coinngn: 8000
Superman: 8000
"The first move's mine!" Deceds declared, "And I'll start with this: Dark World Dealings. So we each draw a card, and then discard one. I'll discard this: Biiege, Vanguard of Dark World! And since I did, he special summons himself from the Graveyard. Now, I summon Brron, Mad King of Dark World to the field! I'll activate the Field Spell: The Gates of Dark World and end my turn." A gate with a malicious light seeping through the small opening erected itself behind Deceds, and it had a menacing look to itself as well. On top of that, all of Deceds' Monsters had their attack points rise.
"My go then. I draw." Superman looked at his cards, "Thanks for letting me discard Necroshade, by the way, because now I can summon the Elemental HERO Bladedge to the field without a sacrifice! Bladedge, Edge Hammer! Take down that Mad King!"
Deceds flinched as his Life Points went from 8000 to 7500.
"Can't explain it, but seeing Brron get destroyed is just… really satisfying." Jaden commented.
"Uh… Context please?"
"It's a long story, Yuma. And it gets really complicated."
"I'll set two cards face-down to end my turn." Superman said.
"Finally. I draw! I banish Brron to discard Biiege and draw one card. Since Biiege was discarded by an effect, he gets special summoned!" Deceds went on with his turn and had a devilish smirk on his face.
"That smile is… Unnerving…" Yuya said, "It almost reminds me of someone I know."
"You and me both." Jaden added.
"Now I'll sacrifice my two Vanguards, and summon Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World! Now attack Bladedge with Eclipse Flame!"
"Uh oh…"
Superman's life points dropped to 7600 and he struggled a bit.
"It's okay. He's still 100 points ahead." Goku said.
"That's something that can change extremely quickly. We've seen it before." Yusaku pointed out.
"Draw! I summon the Elemental HERO Blazeman to the field. And because he was successfully summoned, I can add Polymerization to my hand, but it won't be there for long because I activate Polymerization! I fuse the Blazeman on the field with the Necroshade in my hand! Shadows leave evil in fear as it brings about justice to defend the innocent. Fusion Summon! Descend: Elemental HERO Escuridao!" A being that looked like it could resemble Venom descended on the field.
"Alright! Escuridao gets an extra 100 attack points for every Elemental HERO in the Graveyard!" Yuma exclaimed.
"It won't be enough though. Grapha's attack power is 3000. Superman can't get past that." Yuya pointed out.
"Not if I play this," Superman declared, "Mystical Space Typhoon! This can destroy a Spell or Trap card on the field. Now blow away The Gates of Dark World!" The cyclone struck the gate, causing it to crumble.
"What?"
"Escuridao, attack! Go Dark Diffusion!" Deceds flinched as his Monster was destroyed and his Life Points dropped to 7400.
"I'll take my turn then. I draw! Dark World Dealings lets me draw a card and then discard one! Since I discarded Snoww, Unlight of Dark World, I can add this to my hand… I'm sure you remember my Gates of Dark World." Deceds activated his field spell.
"Not so fast! I play my Trap Card: Dark Bribe! Your card is negated and destroyed." Superman declared.
"The 'bribe' I take is that I get to draw one card, Man of Steel!" Deceds pointed out, "And what a bribe it is! I play Dark Hole to destroy your monsters! And then, I summon this: Brron! Now attack!"
"You mean that would have happened if not for my Trap Card: Call of the Haunted! Come on back, Elemental HERO Bladedge!" Superman called out as Bladedge returned to the battlefield.
"Grr… I return Brron to my hand to special summon Grapha, Dragon Lord of Dark World to end my turn."
"I draw! I'll switch Bladedge to defense mode, throw down a face-down, and end my turn."
"How pathetic, the 'Man of Steel' in a desperate retreat! You coward." Deceds drew his card and smirked, "I'm sure this looks familiar: Dark World Dealings! And guess what's in my hand." He taunted as he revealed Khaki and discarded it, "Now, Kahkki, destroy HERO Bladedge!"
Bladedge was destroyed as the onlookers and audience stared in horror as Superman was left wide open to an assault.
"Now I'll activate my third Gates of Dark World to raise my monster's attack points. Now Grapha, attack! Eclipse Flame!"
"You ran right into my Trap Card: Mirror Force! I'm sure everyone knows what it does, it destroys all of your monsters that are in attack mode!"
"Blast it! Fine then. I banish Kahkki to discard Biiege, which then special summons itself through its effect. I end my turn."
"I draw!" Superman grimaced at his new card. Elemental HERO Ice Edge wasn't going to help him now, but maybe later… "I set a monster to end my turn."
"Oh no. Superman burned through his cards too fast. This isn't good."
"Have some faith, Yusaku. From what I've seen, Superman believes in his deck, and that belief will see him through!" Yusei said.
"PatheTic! I draw! I return Biiege to my hand to Special Summon Grapha! And now, I'll summon Biiege. But he won't be around for long, because I return him to my hand to bring out Grapha number two! And now I'll banish Snoww, to discard Biiege, which then Special Summons itself so that I can return it to my hand for… Wait for it…" Deceds paused as a monster rose from the ground and made itself known, "Another Grapha! HAHAHAHAHA!"
"Well… This doesn't look good." Yuya commented.
"That's the same field he had when he beat me!" Yuma cried out.
"Grapha number one: Destroy his face-down monster!" Grapha attacked the set monster, and sent the Elemental HERO Ice Edge to the Graveyard, which meant-
"He's wide open to an attack!"
"Superman!"
"Graphas two and three: Strike him down! Eclipse Flame!" The two other dragons attacked, and left Superman at 1600 Life points.
"Don't think that you're out of the fire yet! In fact, the inferno's just starting! Okazi deals you 800 points of damage!"
Superman was knocked back as his Life Points dropped even further.
"Luckily for you, I don't have any other means of inflicting damage. You last one more turn. Now draw your last pathetic card, so I can end this, Superman."
Superman struggled as he got up, but finally did so.
"Superman… Keep holding on." Jaden said.
"My deck has no pathetic cards, Deceds. And I'll show you that right now! It's my turn, I DRAW!"
The draw was audible throughout the stadium, as the audience waited in anticipation for what card was to be Superman's comeback.
"…" Even the other legendary duelists were waiting in anticipation for Superman's move. A needle could drop and it would be heard throughout the stadium.
"…" Goku was worried. If this were a straight-up fight, Superman would have this. But this was anything but a straight-up fight. One way or another, this was the last turn Superman would make.
"It's go time." Superman smirked, "I'll start with this: My Spell Card, Fifth Hope. So I take Five Elemental HERO monsters in my Graveyard, shuffle them into my deck, and draw some new cards. Since it was the last card I had when it was activated though…"
"That's right! Superman draws three cards instead of two!" Jaden exclaimed.
""Draw five cards. It won't matter.' Deceds taunted.
"Don't be so sure. I return Escuiardio, Ice Edge, Bladedge, Blazeman, and Necroshade to the deck. And now I draw three new cards!"
Deceds' confident smirk instantly turned into a look of shock when he saw Superman's confident smile. This wasn't good for him.
"I'll start with this: The Skyscraper Field Spell! The place where HEROs flourish!" Superman placed the card in the Field Spell zone, causing numerous buildings to appear and show that they were in a city landscape, not too dissimilar to New York or Metropolis.
"If that's the best you've got, then you're sorely mistaken if you think I'll show you mercy!" Deceds declared. Truth be told, his overconfident nature was starting to crack. He was scared of what might happen next.
"Let's try this on for size then: I play Miracle Fusion! So now I banish cards from my field or Graveyard that would make an Elemental HERO Fusion Monster, and then he gets summoned!"
"What monsters would you have in your Graveyard to use, anyway?"
"The ones you forced me to discard with your Dark World Dealings, remember?" Superman taunted.
Deceds' eyes widened. He forgot that not only did his Spell Card put monsters in his Graveyard, it put cards into Superman's as well.
"Blast it! I nearly lost to that Slifer Slacker because of this!"
"Miracle Fusion! Combine Elemental HEROs Avian and Burstinatrix! The sky and fire fuse into a new force that will defeat you! Prepare for a clash of the titans: Elemental HERO Flame Wingman!" A warrior of the skies and fire descended from the heavens, landing gracefully on the top of one of the buildings that was present thanks to the Field Spell.
"Okay, so you managed to get out a strong monster. It still doesn't matter! Your Skyscraper card only works on your Battle Phase! You just made a grave error!"
"All I need is one Skydive Scorcher to win this." Superman said confidently.
"Okay then. Assuming that you do land an attack, so what?- My Life Points are 7500. A scratch like that won't even bring me below 4000, let alone anywhere close to 0-"
"I wasn't done yet. I activate the Spell Card, Skydive Scorcher!" Superman declared with a smile on his face, "Since I have an Elemental HERO Fusion Monster on my field, I can now destroy all monsters you control with greater attack strength!"
"ALL OF THEM?" Deceds asked in fright.
"ALL OF THEM!" Superman declared confidently.
The Flame Wingman soared into the air, and dove down in an aura of flame, as its fire scorched all of the Graphas and essentially turned them into ashen statues of themselves.
"Grr… You got lucky! Come next round, you're finished!"
"Next round?- There is no next round, Deceds! Thanks to Skydive Scorcher, you lose Life Points equal to the strongest monster among those destroyed. Or, at least, you would have, if Skyscraper didn't make it so that it's the grand total of all of those monsters!"
"N-No…" Deceds looked at the ash-like statues of his monsters, as they started to crumble and eventually crashed on top of him.
Superman: 800
Deceds: 0
As the monsters disappeared, a rune-like circle appeared underneath Deceds, and multiple tendrils came out and started dragging him to who-knows-where.
"NO! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! NO! NNNNNOOOOO!" His struggles were all for naught, as his power was now no more, and he was dragged down into a realm of unending pain and torment.
A sudden silence washed over the stadium, and lasted for a good ten seconds until Goku started clapping, who was then joined by Yugi, Jaden, then Yusei, Yuma, Yuya, and finally Yusaku.
The crowd erupted in applause. Cheering Superman's name and praise.
"Way to go!"
Superman turned to see the Legendary Duelists each giving him signs of appreciation and approval. Most notably, his close friend Goku got him in a friendly headlock.
"Knew you had it in you!"
"And that portal should lead everyone back to their worlds." Superman finished as they got all the Duel Spirits back to their homes. Gol'gar, Rosemary, Towers, Master Diamond, and the other Duel Spirits were notable in thanking the heroes for rescuing them from their imprisonment.
Gol'gar was noted as being apologetic for his harshness in his duel with Goku.
"That looks like it's about everyone. Except for you six." Goku said.
"Here." Superman pressed a few buttons on his device, causing a portal to open up, "This portal should sort you guys out and send you back to your own world and timeline. Ready to head home?"
"Almost." Yusei replied.
Superman and Goku nodded as they understood what was about to come next.
"While we were in that prison, we had a discussion. Well, a debate really." Yuma admitted.
"I can already see where this is going, and I can only say one thing: It's a freaking shame that we can't stick around to see it."
"Well, it's kinda the job of a duelist to keep challenging themselves." Yugi said, "And we all know that none of us would be satisfied until we get our answer."
"Then hopefully, we'll meet again soon." Superman said, "Hopefully under less extreme circumstances."
"I think we've got enough time to see the stand-off. But after that, we gotta get going." Goku noted.
"Then let's do this. I'm ready to seize the wind!" Yusaku set his deck into his Duel Disk and readied his stance.
"Let the show begin! My monsters are ready to swing into action!" Yuya set his deck as well, and also readied his stance.
"Get ready for me to bring it to you! 'Cause I'm feeling the flow!" Yuma set his deck as well and also readied his stance.
"The clustering wishes will guide my way through this battle. Let's rev it up!" Yusei set his deck and readied his stance.
"You won't see me giving up the chase! Get your game on!" Jaden set his deck and readied his stance.
"I will fly at a higher game as The Heart of the Cards guide me through this battle." Yugi set his deck and readied his stance as well.
"DUEL!"
Dude: The guy that writes these duels out for the show deserves a freaking raise!
Wade: Tough time writing these out?
Dude: I ran the first two through DuelingBook, the last one I scripted out myself. For the record, anyone who wants to see the story decks for Goku, Superman, Deceds, Rosemary, or Gol'gar can just hit up my Deviantart page or the Aftermath Tumblr for links to the decks.
Pinkie: I take it that they aren't competitive?
Dude: Not really. And who are you talk, Miss Performapal?
Wade: Coming from the guy who runs three Magic Cylinders in a Samurai deck, that's not really scathing.
Dude: I got an OTK with that once! So how about you stick to your own beeswax? Or are you still mad about me tearing apart your life points with that card?
Wade: You wanna go? Bring it on!
Pinkie: I'm not letting you have all the fun! Let's do this thing!
Alexis: Chirp chirp tweet?
…
Wade: Figures she'd have that deck.
Pinkie: Of all the people…
Dude: Ugh… Forget it. You win.
