"Don't forget!"

"I know mom. Paying in your protection is like step one. I'll do it right now." Sam offered. Looking around his new apartment. Mom and pops had to go to work right away of course, but that left him to finish unpacking some stuff, and finding the gang that ran the protection racket on this floor of P9. The weird not quite, but totally are megabuildings just like in NC.

Honestly if he closed his eyes it was just like being back in M8.

Either way he had a gig to do. Find the local toughs, and pay them to leave his shit alone.

He stepped out the first time he had left the apartment after they moved everything in, and went searching. It didn't take him long. There was a group of three flashing colors and standing under a big tag calling them the "9 Ballers."

It was a name. Sam had no room to talk really. He had ran with some gonk fucks before too.

"Hey, uh. I'm Sam. Just moved in here, I'm looking to set up protection?"

The three kids looked at eachother and laughed.

"Man shiiit. You think you can just move into P9 and not set up your protection before hand? What are you some fucking out of towner? Everyone knows you speak to the dons before you move."

"Oh... Shit. Well yeah we just moved to Seattle, I just want to do things right you know. I don't want any trouble."

"Fuck for real? Where you come from?"

"Westbrook." The name obviously meant nothing to any of the kids who looked at him like he was stupid.

"Never heard of it, some fucking po-dunk town out in the boonies or something? You some farm boy or something? Huh Farm boy?"

"Not really? Westbrook is one of the sections of Night City. It's where I'm from." To Sam's surprise the moment he said Night City everything changed.

"N-Night City? You from fucking Night city!?"

"Uhh. Yeah? Born and raised. Until now. My dad does security for TT and got a job to move here. Uh-"

"Ah shit man, we didn't mean nothing by it. Just uh hazing you a bit you know? But fuck didn't know you were a Night City kid. Umm. Don't worry about the protection and shit yeah? New to the city and all? We'll just consider it paid yeah? As a welcome to Seattle, we don't want you to have any trouble do we boys?"

"Fuck no."

"I don't fuck with no NC kid. They fucking gonk!"

"Shut up Milo, don't piss him off... So yeah. Uhh you good choom. We'll talk to the bosses, make sure you're squared away, uh welcome to Seattle, and P9. Quietest, and definitely safest Block in Seattle. Definintely don't need no NC biz..." And then because Sam wasn't sure what the fuck was happening all three kids just took off...

Wow... He was going to have to call his mom, Seattle people were scary nice. Who ever heard of just not taking protection money?

Wild.
