Ryuko slumped down in the chair next to Barbara. It had been a few weeks since the last big event, and quite frankly, she was starting to get restless.
"Don't get too relaxed. You know how this kind of thing goes." Barbara noted, adjusting her glasses before continuing to type.
"Hey Barb, I've been meaning to ask. You lost your legs back in your world, right?"
"What about it?" Barbara asked, without missing a beat.
"Well, it's just… Why aren't you out in the field? I figured you'd love to go out there, jump from rooftop to rooftop, and… Y'know, save people." Ryuko said.
Barbara put her hands down and sighed, "Don't get me wrong. I did enjoy being Batgirl. All those acrobatics? The backflips? Kicking a bastard like Joker in the face?- It was exciting. Is it something that I miss?- Yeah. Who wouldn't?" She went on, "But, I feel that it's just as important to show that saving people isn't all about kicking bad guys, or doing insane acrobatics. I'm not Daredevil, or Toph, or Victor Stone."
"Who?"
"He goes by Cyborg. He'll probably show up sooner or later." Barbara waved off, "The point is, is that I don't have some ability to compensate for what happened. I don't get super advanced prosthetics to put me back in fighting condition. And I think it's important for readers too. If just one reader can see someone in a wheelchair doing something good without having superpowers and feel like they're not invisible anymore, I'd say that's a bigger win than kicking Joker in the face would be."
"Gotta agree with that." Jason said as he plopped down in the chair next to Barbara, "If I had a dollar for every time Babs here got me, the old man, or any of my brothers out of a jam, I'd have enough to been able to finance my own funeral."
Barbara rolled her eyes, "You wouldn't need to have me get you out of jams if you guys weren't always trying to do something reckless. You got the data on the Dark Skeletons?"
"Right here." Jason said as he connected his recording device to the computer, "So… What're the stats on these things?"
"Looks like those Skeletons from Ghosts and Goblins mixed with… The decay brutes from Winx Club." Barbara noted, "Judging by how they reacted to fire, I'd say that that's a kryptonite for them."
"Woah, they have a healing factor? That explains why I couldn't dice them to ribbons." Ryuko realized, "They heal pretty fast."
"Maybe…" Barbara noted as she took a look at the footage, "Or maybe not. Look here." She pointed at the screen, "When Shoto burned off one of their arms, it didn't grow back."
"Cauterize the wound, and the thing can't grow back. Interesting." Jason added, "Hang on, he said he also tried ice one time. Any data from that? I wasn't there, I was busy blowing up WallSlimes to stop them from dragging Mikassa to another part of the city."
The footage appeared on the screen, as it did indeed show Shoto Todoroki attacking the Dark Skeletons with ice-based attacks, but not much footage after that.
"Not a whole lot to go off of. We'll have to test that a bit more. In the meantime, see if you and Bucky can't make some flamethrowers out of the equipment we found. Hand them to anyone who doesn't already have fire powers, or enough raw strength to just hurl them into the sun."
"Sanji's kicks also tore off the head of one, and it didn't bounce back." Ryuko added, "Looks like they're just as vulnerable to losing their head as any other person."
"Any other person not named the Hulk anyway." Barbara muttered, "But hey. Good talk, and I guess ripping off the limbs fast enough would also burn the wound by virtue of friction. Nice catch."
"Just trying to help hold the line until we can move it." Ryuko said, "I'm heading to the mess hall, do you want anything?"
"Iced green tea, and I guess a tuna melt." Barbara said.
"Got it."
"You're a lot cooler-headed when you're not in a fight." Barbara noted.
"Thanks." Ryuko rolled her eyes.
