Stitches and Sweethearts
15-year-old Nikki Maxwell was in the hospital recovering from having her appendix removed. She was lying in her hospital bed, flickering through the channels on the TV feeling a bit bored. Just then, her family came into the room.
"Hi, Nikki how're you feeling?" asked Mrs. Maxwell.
"Hi, Mom. I'm okay." Nikki said.
"Glad to hear that. You gave us quite a scare. We didn't know what happened to you." Mr. Maxwell told her.
"Daisy misses you, Nikki. So do I." Brianna piped up.
Nikki smiled sweetly at her sister. While she could be bratty and annoying at times, but she was still a nice little girl.
"We spoke to your doctor, he says you're recovering nicely." Mrs. Maxwell informed.
"And you'll be able to come home soon." added Mr. Maxwell.
"That's good. I'm getting a little tired of just being stuck here." Nikki replied.
"Don't worry. You'll be back home, at school, and with your friends in no time."
"Yeah."
Then her parents and Brianna left to let her rest. But before leaving, Mrs. Maxwell poked her head back in.
"Oh, and Nikki you have a visitor."
"Who is it? Chloe and Zoey?"
"No, it's Brandon."
That made Nikki freeze.
"Brandon's here?"
"Would you like me to let him in?"
"Yes, you can."
And with that, Brandon slowly walked in.
"Hey, Nikki." he greeted.
"Hey, Brandon. What are you doing here? I thought you'd be working at Fuzzy Friends."
"When I told my grandparents you were in the hospital they gave me the day off and said I should come visit you."
Nikki felt herself blush.
"Well thanks for coming."
He sat down in a chair beside her bed, and they began to talk.
After talking a nurse came in.
"Excuse me young man, but I need to give Nikki a follow up. Would you mind stepping outside for a moment?"
"No problem."
And Brandon got up, and left the room.
"That your boyfriend?" the nurse asked Nikki.
Nikki blushed again.
"No, he's just a friend."
"I see."
Then she started to look Nikki over, making sure she was recovering properly. After a few minutes, Brandon was allowed back in.
"You're doing well, Nikki. I'll check on you later."
And the nurse left.
"So, Nikki is there anything you'd like?" Brandon wanted to know.
"Well, I wouldn't mind getting out of this room for a while. And the nurse said it's okay."
"Sure, we can do that. Luckily there's a wheelchair in here."
Brandon got the wheelchair, and Nikki slowly got out of bed, and put on her slippers. As Brandon helped her into the chair, Nikki was thankful that she was in a hospital gown that was closed in the back. She'd die of embarrassment if Brandon saw her undies.
After making sure she was comfortable, Brandon pushed her out of the room.
They went down the hall, and chatted about how things were going with school starting, their hobbies, how things were at Fuzzy Friends.
"Sorry again I wasn't able help out like I said I would."
"Don't worry about it. Everything turned out turned out fine. And what's important is that you're okay."
Nikki smiled and blushed a little bit. They went outside the hospital and into the courtyard.
"Feels nice out here." Nikki said, as she felt the fresh air.
She couldn't help but get out of the wheelchair and walk around a bit. But unfortunately, she was still a bit sore from the surgery and almost fell. Brandon quickly helped her get steady again, and guided her back to her wheelchair.
"You okay?" he asked her.
"I'm okay. Just went a little too fast."
"Come on, let's get you back inside."
And with that, Brandon wheeled her back into the hospital.
Back inside, Brandon got her some water and got ready to take her back to her room.
"You know Nikki, when I heard you were in the hospital I was really worried about you." Brandon confessed.
"Really?" asked Nikki.
Brandon blushed a little, and rubbed the back of his head.
"Yeah...I mean you're a...really really great friend. And I care about you."
Nikki was very touched as she felt her heart begin to race. The two were silent as they went back to the room. Both felt too awkward to say anything, and not knowing what to say. When they finally got back to Nikki's hospital room, Brandon's phone rang.
He answered it, and after a minute he hung up.
"I'm sorry, Nikki but my grandma needs me back home."
"It's okay. Thanks for coming to visit me, Brandon."
After getting back in bed, Brandon gave Nikki a warm yet gentle hug. To Nikki it felt like the most wonderful thing in the world.
"Get better soon. I'll see you around." Brandon said.
"Bye, Brandon."
And with that, he left. As Nikki lied in bed, she felt utter bliss. The time she spent with Brandon made her feel loopier than the medications and anesthesia.
The End
