My Sensei is an Assassin
Chapter 09
First Term Exam Time
IZUKU'S POV
For 4 months, our teachers trained us for this day. It may not be the most important phase of our 3rd year, but it's a part of it. Today marks the crucial beginning of our 1st term exams.
I was with my schoolmates as we headed toward Kunigagaoka Junior High, where our exams were going to take place. We encountered numerous unfamiliar gazes directed at us. If we claimed we weren't nervous or afraid, we would be lying. However, we had trained ourselves to conceal our facial expressions very well. The thought of taking exams in such an unfamiliar environment scared us, but our sensei's offer outweighed our fear.
'I have to get the top score in any one subject to learn that technique.' Lost in thought, I stumbled over a stone, bracing for impact, only to be unexpectedly lifted into the air by a gentle touch.
I was floating in air.
When I looked towards my possible saviour, I saw a cute pink-cheeked girl who has a bob cut and brown hair.
(A/N: Can you guess who she is?)
"Are you okay?" She asked me, her voice laced with concern as she lowered her head in an apologetic bow. "I'm really sorry for using my Quirk on you without asking." With joining of her both hands, she dismissed her power, and I felt the familiar rush of air as gravity regained its hold on me. In a swift, graceful motion, I executed a flawless flip, landing effortlessly on my feet with a flourish.
"How are you? Do you need a hand?" She asked again.
Even though I was trained for months in expression control and other techniques, I still found myself unable to talk to unfamiliar girls of my age. My classmates knew about this, so they replied in my place.
"Don't worry, he is fine. It's just that he is very shy and uncomfortable around girls. His name is Izuku Midoriya, and mine is Kyoka Jiro. These are my friends." Jiro-san said in my place and introduced herself and me.
"Shinso Hitoshi," He said in his usual monotonous voice.
"Denki Kaminari. Thanks for saving him."
"Saito Fuji. Thanks for saving him."
(A/N: I am thinking of making him appear in the main story from time to time but not frequently in future.)
"Ryu T-takahashi."
"Reiko Yanagi."
"Michiru Honcho."
"Tsubaki Kunieda. Pleasure to meet you."
"Well, my name is Ochaco Uraraka. It's a pleasure to meet you too." My saviour introduced herself and asked, "You don't look like a student of this school. Are you from the school we are going to compete against?"
(A/N: I thought of having her in the Kunugigaoka school. How do you like her early introduction.)
"Yeah, we are." Tsubaki-san replied with a sign of confidence. "But we don't know about this school; if you would help us in finding direction here, we would be very grateful to you."
"Why not? I would love to help you." Uraraka-san replied.
Then she gave us a tour of the school building where our exams are.
As we walked, she confidently stated, "Our principal made it clear at the beginning of the semester that we will be competing against the school of his old rivals this year. He challenged us to give our best and demonstrate our superiority, but he also emphasized that those who don't perform as well can learn from the experience and improve. Above all, he urged us to embrace the thrill and excitement of competition."
"Our teachers also have the same thoughts. Maybe that's the reason for this joint examination." Jiro-san said.
Soon, we reached our classroom for the exam,
"Uraraka." A girl shouted Uraraka-san's name from the hallway.
"Oh, Mio." Uraraka-san replied.
The girl came towards us and said, "What are you doing here? Kyoya-kun and others are waiting for you."
"Sorry, I was showing them the direction of class." Uraraka-san said.
She looked towards us, "Are you from the other school?" To which we nodded. "Hello my name is Mio Tsugawara but call me Mio, nice to meet you. Sorry for the abruptness but I have to end this conversation as we also have to reach our class for exam."
"We understand. Best of luck and thank you." Tsubaki-san replied on our behalf.
"Best of luck to you too. Bye."
1st Exam
The scene was set for our exam battlefield, and with it came the palpable tension that accompanies any major confrontation. Our inaugural challenge? A formidable opponent Math, the subject notorious for claiming the confidence and composure of countless students across the exam arena.
This particular exam was no mere test; it was a comprehensive assessment that spanned a wide and complex syllabus, including Trigonometry, where the relationships between angles and sides twist and turn like a winding path; Arithmetic and Geometric Progression, which explore sequences that can either captivate or confound; Coordinate Geometry, a realm of points and equations that map out relationships on a two-dimensional plane; and finally, the intricate dance of Linear and Quadratic equations, where the balance of variables can lead to either clarity or chaos.
Each of these topics was interwoven in a cunningly deceptive manner, designed to ensnare the minds of even the most diligent teenagers, turning straightforward calculations into puzzling conundrums that would test every ounce of our resolve and understanding. The stakes were high, and we knew we had to summon all our skills and strategies to emerge victorious from this daunting academic battle.
But we were not any normal teenagers, and our teachers were also not some normal teachers. They are the most eccentric teachers I have ever seen. Karma-sensei had already taught us about these kinds of questions. He taught us that every problem in life is also solvable but is jumbled in such a way that we think it is impossible for us.
3 hours later, I finished my exam; some questions were left behind because of how time-consuming they were.
2nd Exam Day
On next exam day, we found ourselves preparing for an engaging and perplexing challenge: a battle of minds centered around the captivating world of science. The breadth of our exam syllabus encompassed a variety of intriguing topics, including the fascinating realm of chemical salts, the intricate processes that sustain human life, the complexity of the neural system, the mysteries of inheritance, and the intriguing properties of magnetism.
Our esteemed teacher, Manami-sensei, often emphasized the dual nature of science with her thought-provoking words: "Science has so much destructive power, but it also possesses infinite possibilities of helping others." These words remind us that while science can lead to devastating outcomes, it also holds the key to remarkable advancements that benefit humanity.
Many may find science daunting, but it becomes much more approachable when we strive to understand its principles. Every aspect of our environment is intertwined with scientific phenomena: the sensory experiences we encounter, the formation of everyday objects, the stunning hues that paint the sky at dawn and dusk, and the complex journey of evolution itself. By taking the time to explore and comprehend our surroundings, along with the intricate workings of our own bodies, we can unlock the secrets of science and appreciate the wonders it has to offer.
3rd Exam Day
3rd Exam day marked an important day as we sat for our Social Studies exam, which was thoughtfully structured into three distinct parts: history, economics, and law and politics.
Our history lessons, under the guidance of Nagisa-sensei, were rich and comprehensive. He poured his passion into teaching us everything he could, immersing us in the fascinating narratives and pivotal events that shaped our world.
For the law and politics section, we were fortunate to learn from two knowledgeable instructors who brought unique perspectives to the subjects. The first was Kimura Masayoshi, a dedicated police officer whose insights into the legal system illuminated the complexities of laws that govern our society. His real-world experiences made the legal theories we studied come to life. The second instructor was Ryoma Terasaka, an engaging politician who shared his firsthand experiences in the political arena. His lessons on governance and civic responsibility inspired us to think critically about the role of politics in our daily lives.
Finally, our economics curriculum was delivered by the dynamic duo of Muramatsu-sensei and Yoshida-sensei. Together, they provided us with a balanced view of economic principles, from basic concepts to intricate theories, ensuring we understood the impact of economics on our society and the global stage.
As we prepared to tackle this exam, I felt a blend of excitement and nervousness, knowing how much knowledge we had gained from our dedicated teachers.
4th Exam Day
4th exam was one where I feel particularly confident is truly my strong suit. Rio-sensei has guided me through the intricacies of both the vocational and literature components of the subject, emphasizing that these areas contribute significantly to our overall score. For the writing section, I had the privilege of learning under Nagisa-sensei, who not only teaches but is also present to help us refine our work, correcting any mistakes we may make along the way. His dedication extended beyond the classroom, as he offered me private tutoring sessions to address my frequent grammatical errors. Both teachers encouraged me to deepen my understanding by immersing myself in classic English films and literature, sharing their insights on how these resources could enrich my language skills.
5th Exam day
The last battle of our 1st term examination war was against the Japanese literature. This exam was particularly challenging for me because I struggled with understanding the nuances of the language and themes in Japanese literature. However, with the guidance and support of Yukiko-sensei, I started enjoying the complexities of Japanese literature and was able to grasp the deeper meanings behind the texts. Yukiko-sensei's passion for the subject and her patience in explaining difficult concepts truly helped me improve my understanding and appreciation for Japanese literature.
(Timeskip: Result Day)
We were in the classroom waiting for the exam results, and tensions were running high. The teachers seemed to enjoy contributing to the anxiety in the room. This was the first time all the teachers who had taught us, even if just for a day, were present physically or virtually. After putting us through this nerve-wracking wait, they finally announced our results.
"Now, let me announce your results. Let's begin with math. The 1st place in the class goes to... Tsubaki Kunieda-san and Shinso Hitoshi-kun. Congratulations to both of them; we have a tie!" We all got excited and started congratulating them.
"But," and here comes the infamous cursed word 'but,' "the one who has gotten 1st in overall math is Kyoya Aburame from Kunugigaoka Junior High." Our shouts started to fade away, but Tsubaki-san's and Shinso-kun's smiles didn't waver.
"Don't worry, everyone, I am not sad. It just gave me motivation to do better." Tsubaki-san assured us.
"Likewise, I will do better than this time in the finals. And Karma-sensei, I think your teaching work is going to get doubled because I am not going to admit defeat." Shinso-san declared that he will gain top position next time.
"Good, that's the spirit I wanted from you all." Karma-sensei said through the screen.
"Good fighting spirit you have. Now moving towards science, the 1st place in the class goes to..." Nagisa-sensei said.
We all were looking at him anxiously when he announced,
"Saito Fuji-kun," Nagisa-sensei announced.
We all congratulated him but were also anticipating if there was any 'but.'
"What? There isn't any 'but' here. He got the first place in science from both schools." To which excitement doubled.
"Now moving onto English, first in our class goes to... Izuku Midoriya, and he also got the 1st position in English in both schools."
I couldn't hold back my tears of joy there when everyone genuinely congratulated me because no one congratulated me on anything I accomplished except my parents.
"Hey, what's with the tears, dude? You should be happy with us." Kaminari said. To which Saito replied, "They are tears of joy, man. Let him shed them."
"Okay, so now goes the final, Social Studies, and the 1st place in our class goes to... Izuku Midoriya again. But, "And here comes again that cursed word, "the 1st position in the subject goes to Ochako Uraraka."
No one said anything for a minute. Then Kaminari said, "Hey, dude, isn't that the name of the girl who saved you from falling?"
"Yeah, that's her name. Wow! The one who saved you is also the one who took your 1st place. Talk about coincidence." Jiro said.
After a minute of our talking, Sensei coughed to gain your attention.
"About the deal, you all remember, right?" We all remembered it. "Deal states that you have to get the top scores in any one subject to learn the technique, right?" He paused again, "Well, it was a logical deception so that you would do your best."
"WHAT!?" We all screamed. 'That means we got tricked?'
"I was going to teach you guys that technique anyway. The thing is that what I use is the highest level of it, which requires very little criteria to meet. What I am going to teach you is the basic level, which requires the three most important criteria to be met. About those criteria, I will tell you tomorrow morning during training."
From the next day onwards, our summer vacation started. The first week is going to be a summer camp here for training some of those tricks. Some professionals are also going to come to train us in important tricks. The 2nd and 3rd weeks will be relaxation time, and the 4th week will be our festival holiday here. We can invite our family members to enjoy it here.
For the first whole week, we would camp in the mountains and learn the survival skills needed in different scenarios.
(Timeskip: Next Day, Morning)
I went to meet All Might for my usual training.
Sometimes, I use the techniques I learnt there on All Might for spooking him, specifically sneaking. His reactions were hilarious every time I use them.
"Good morning, All Might." I greeted.
All Might chuckled, "Good morning, young one. Ready for today's training?" I nodded eagerly, excited to learn more from the legendary hero.
"You're going home back to Mustufa next week, right?" To which I nodded. "This week, we will do your regular training, and next week we will continue our beach clean up exercise."
"All Might, Can you guess that I got the highest marks in English in the exams?" I excitedly told him.
"Good job, Young Midoriya; a great hero needs to be intellectually strong too. I researched this Kunugigaoka Junior High. It's truly a great school, started last year with only a handful of students, but all of them went to prestigious schools. That school is very good if you are aiming for an academically good future."
(Timeskip: On their way to school)
We were hiking the mountain to reach school. Today is special because a teacher of our teacher is going to come to train us. 'I wonder what kind of eccentric teacher they would be to teach them.' I was thinking that when Kaminari asked me,
"Hey Midoriya, we are going to be learning the technique, right?"
"Yeah, what about it?" I replied and asked.
"Actually, I remembered something sensei said when he was explaining that technique to us on the 1st day. He said that because of your past experiences, you can learn it much faster than us."
"Yeah. Now I remember it. Because of all that exhaustion, and you went to bed after eating, we never got to ask you about that." Saito asked me, and others were also looking at me.
I didn't know what to do. 'What should I do? Should I say that I don't know what he meant? Will they judge me because of it? But they are my 1st true friends, and I don't want to lie to them. OK, then I will tell them everything.'
I again started muttering when they stopped me. They didn't know what I was muttering though.
"Well, because of my quirklessness, I was a constant target of bullies and thugs. I was able to read people's expressions, intentions, and most of their actions' reasons with ease as a result. I developed my stealthiness because I wanted to avoid people as best as I could. Maybe that's the reason sensei thinks I can use that technique much faster."
"He is correct; quirkless people often get bullied for that. I also faced those bullies at some point in my life. I changed my elementary school 2 times because of that." Tsubaki-san said with a sad face.
"Wait, wait. You're also quirkless? But I thought you told us that you have a quirk of learning faster." Jiro-san asked Tsubaki-san.
"I lied to you and for that I am sorry. When I changed my first elementary school to a school where no one knew me, I told everyone that I have a Quirk that lets me learn things faster. I knew that it was illegal to tell people about your Quirk, but I was fed up with all that bullying, and I also told you that because of a possibility of bullying. I started learning things day and night so that people didn't find out that I was quirkless." She smiled and said, "Soon, I don't know when, but I started learning things not out of fear of bullying but out of pure curiosity and interest. That led to making that lie a reality. I still don't have a Quirk, but I can still learn much faster than any human."
"We understand why you did that. But remember that we won't treat you like others, Tsubaki-san, Midoriya-kun." Saito-kun said.
"Yeah, don't worry about those things." Kaminari also said. Others nodded at that.
"Thank you, everyone." Tsubaki-san and I both said.
Soon we reached the building. Teachers were present there. Nagisa-sensei was instructing others to move the boxes. Ryunnosuke-sensei and Rinka-sensei were testing and assembling weapons for shooting. Karma-sensei was checking some kind of list. Yuma-nii with Yoshida-sensei, Muramatsu-sensei, and Hiroto-sensei were bringing boxes in a trolley. There was another adult with white hair and a bandana, who was tinkering with some equipment.
'I think I know that white-haired man, but don't know who is he?'
Nagisa-sensei saw us, and walked towards us, "Well, you're quite early for your summer camp. We are still arranging the place, so go and relax while we complete our arranging. It shouldn't take more than 20 minutes."
To which we nodded our heads and began heading towards our classroom where Ryu-kun and Michiru-san were already present. But I remembered something, so I asked him, "Sensei, where are the instructors you told us about?"
Suddenly, my instincts told me to duck, and I blocked a knife with both hands. The attacker was a blonde lady who appeared to be in her late thirties.
"Well, this is quite impressive," she said with a smirk. "I didn't expect you to react so quickly." I looked at her in shock, wondering how she managed to sneak up on me so easily. "Nagisa, you trained him very well in these 4 months." She said that to Nagisa-sensei.
Nagisa-sensei smiled and said, "Thank you Irina-sensei."
Chapter 09 End
A/N: Thanks for Reading
I know that many of you were thinking of Karasuma being here, but I don't have any plans to introduce him so early in the story. This story hasn't even completed 10 chapters to begin with. I plan on writing +100 chapters until the Rescue Arc finishes. So keep some patience.
Next Chapter: TBA
By the way, my other story of Tensura x Solo leveling is also out now, so please go check it out too. The updates of that story are going to be slow because that's my second concern to complete, but I will do my best to make it engaging.
