Arriving at UA, Aizawa can't help but sigh. Looking out over the pristine lawns and gleaming glass building of the campus, he can't help but recall just how much of a drag these new-year meetings are. Every single year, the staff are all called out to the school, interrupting any Hero work, sleeping, etc. they were doing before the school year begins for a meeting. Granted due to the topics covered by said meeting, it's a very important one, even being mandated by the HPSC. However, even keeping that in mind he can't help but feel annoyed by how early in the year it's set, no matter how logical it may be.
Stepping up beside him is his lovely husband Hizashi Yamada, otherwise known as the Pro Hero Present Mic, who has a brighter outlook on the situation, "Oh come on Sho! Don't be so negative, we're here for good reason! As long as we take this meeting seriously, it'll really help us when the new students actually get here! What kind of Heroes would we be if we couldn't help our own students with their struggles while under our care?"
Aizawa just gives a halfhearted grunt. While his husband isn't exactly wrong, knowing what they're about to be learning makes it a bit hard to be positive. The meeting they're about to attend and participate in has gained infamy among UA staff, not only for its placement on the calendar, but also for the content of the meeting itself. Along with said infamy, it also gained a name. The Trauma Meeting.
The contents of the Trauma Meeting are relatively simple on paper. Students with… unorthodox lives up to that point are brought up, and measures for the sake of their health are discussed and implemented. However, things are of course nowhere near as simple as they may sound. In modern society, with around 80% of the world's population having an unusual ability, or Quirk, the amount of problems has only grown. And of course, that's without even dipping into the fact that mental health is already an incredibly complex topic, with everyone being so different and needing something specific to them.
Now, that's not to say it isn't worth it, far from it. Seeing students heal, grow, and succeed is one of the most fulfilling things about Aizawa's life, and he wouldn't trade it away for anything. He just wishes that the world wouldn't be so cruel to people who don't deserve it. It hurts people, it warps who they are, and in some cases it even takes them. Like Oboro
Shaking off those thoughts, Aizawa heads inside, destination set on the usual meeting room. Arriving, he nods to a few of his colleagues and takes a seat, Mic taking the one directly to his left. With a knowing look one of his oldest friends, Nemuri Kayama AKA Midnight, slides over a cup of coffee, the smell instantly recognizable as his favorite brew.
Giving her a small nod in thanks, he takes a sip and lets the flavor wash over him. Setting the drink aside for the moment, Aizawa takes a look around the room, seeing that nearly everyone is present. All they're waiting on now is for Nezu to arrive and officially begin the meeting.
Soon enough, the stoat himself arrives, riding on the shoulder of a skeletal man in an oversized yellow suit. Hopping down, the stoat walks over and takes his seat at the head of the table while the skeleton takes the only open spot at the foot.
Nezu clears his throat, "Well then, I believe you all know what time it is, but welcome to this year's edition of the UA Trauma Meeting. Before we begin, I would like to introduce someone to all of you. Yagi, if you would."
Nodding, the skeletal man stands, "Greetings, my name is Yagi Toshinori. Despite how it may seem, I assure you that all of you do know me, at least in some form or fashion. The proof? Well-", Yagi cracks his neck and takes a deep breath before his muscles… inflate. One second he's an incredibly skinny man and the next he's-, "-I AM HERE! AS YOUR NEW COWORKER!"
All Might.
This man, who looks like he'd lose a fight with a middle school student, is secretly one of the most well known Heroes in the world.
Shrinking back to his skeletal form, All Might clears his throat before speaking, "My name is Toshinori Yagi, please refer to me as such while in this form. As for why I'm here… While the details can be discussed later, I'll be blunt. My time as an active Hero is coming to an end. Five years ago in a ferocious battle with an evil I'd rather not discuss I was severely injured. Despite surviving, I lost many of my organs and had to receive multiple surgeries. Even after all of that, my now damaged body couldn't keep up with the demands of Hero work, my available time to act dwindling until now. These days I can only maintain my muscle form for around three hours. In light of this news, I've decided to prepare for my eventual retirement and start passing on what I know of the field of Heroics. I look forward to working with you all."
After his little speech, All Might gives a low bow and returns to his seat.
When they've had some time to recover from the news, Nezu calls the meeting to order, "Now then, with that out of the way I do believe it is time for us to properly begin the meeting. I will go through the students by order of which course they applied for, with one exception, and we will discuss what measures the school should take in each case."
Nezu presses a button on the arm of his chair, activating a nearby projector screen and bringing up an image of a young boy with emerald green hair and eyes as well as a smattering of freckles across his face, "This is Izuku Midoriya. Despite the explosive power he showed during the entrance exam, he's extremely skittish and shows signs of severe bullying, which leads me to believe he's a late bloomer. Now, in regards to the power I mentioned earlier, he seems to have difficulty controlling it, what with his limbs breaking upon its use. In addition to all of this, his answers for some of the hypothetical exam questions point to him having little value for his own life, being willing to cast it aside at a moment's notice, seemingly without considering other options."
Hound Dog, being the school's councilor, speaks first, "To get the obvious out of the way first, he'll need counseling for the ways he views himself, and depending on what I find during those sessions, I might also recommend therapy, especially in regards to what he may have faced due to his bullies."
Aizawa chimes in, "As for his Quirk, I'd be willing to provide some after-school tutoring to help him learn to control it better. Based on what I've seen, it might be a good choice to invite All Might as well, seeing as both of their Quirks appear to be strength enhancing Emitter types."
Nezu nods, "Both proposals are agreeable in my eyes, how do you feel Yagi?"
All Might nods as well, "I have no objections, I'd be happy to help the boy master his Quirk."
Nezu claps his paws together, "Excellent! Now, moving on. Next, we have Katsuki Bakugou."
And on the meeting goes, cycling through students from the Hero, Support, and General Studies courses. There are none from the Business Course, as usual, they tend to be the most un-traumatized of UA students.
Finally nearing the end of Nezu's presentation, he takes a moment to speak with them, "Now, we've covered a lot here today, but this next student is… in a different ballpark, so to speak. They're a foreigner, hailing from America, Texas specifically, and…", he sighs, running a paw down his face, "I suppose I should just come out and say it. This student is the child of a Villain."
The room goes still. While it has happened before, children of Villains going to Hero Schools isn't the most common thing. While they're all aware that there is a separation between parent and child, it's difficult to tell what sort of ideas may have been planted in the child's head by their parent.
Nezu clicks over to the next slide, pulling up a picture of an incredibly pale teen with long dark brown hair and amethyst eyes. Well, they assume both eyes are the same color, their left eye is closed in the picture. Unlike the other students shown today, this one isn't wearing a uniform, instead wearing a black hoodie over a maroon t-shirt. There's a button on the hoodie that depicts the Non-binary flag with the words 'They/Them' printed over it in cursive.
Nezu calls their attention back, "This is Dusk Taylor, middle child of S Rank Villain Apophis."
Many eyes go wide at the statement. Apophis was an internationally known Villain that had a worldwide organization that dealt in arms, goons, and assassinations. Was being the keyword there, as only a few months earlier he had been found dead in his own home. Very little information had been let out about the exact circumstances of his death, but one of the most well known facts was that it hadn't been pretty. They'd all seen the pictures, they'd all seen the blood.
Nezu brought some files out from under the table and asked for them to be passed around, explaining as they were, "In those files is a more detailed account of what I am about to explain. I cannot stress enough that what you are about to learn is to be kept secret from everyone. Not a soul outside of this room is to learn of any of this unless under very specific circumstances. All Information being shared here today is done so with the express permission and cooperation of both Taylor theirself and the American Heroic Agencies Bureau. Now, to the part we've all been dreading."
And so Nezu explains. It's dark, though being the child of an S Rank, that probably should've been obvious. Included in the files are testimonies from Dusk theirself about things their father had done to and around them, as well as the fact he had tried to groom them into a successor. After the testimonies is a medical report, detailing various scars across Dusk's body as well as their likely causes. Next is a psych evaluation that is… worrying, to say the least. The final set of documents discuss the student's Quirk and… the fact that they want to be a Hero is a relief after reading that.
When the talk begins to wind down and it's time to offer suggestions, Nezu adds one last thing, "Before we move on, I have here a written request from the president of the AHAB. It requests that for the duration of their stay in Japan, Taylor is to be housed under the care of a staff member, preferably one who can counter the most dangerous aspects of their Quirk and disable them quickly."
Aizawa lets out and exhausted sigh, "I suppose that leaves me as the prime candidate."
Nezu nods, "Of course, not only is Erasure incredibly useful in this case, you've also shown quite the ability for dealing with troubled students, especially alongside Mic. In my opinion, there is no one better for the task."
Aizawa nods, all of his points are logical, "Even if you were going to give me a choice in the matter, which I know you won't, I see plenty of potential in them, so I'd have said yes regardless."
Nezu smiles, "I'm glad, now then, I do believe it is time to suggest accommodations for Taylor."
Surprisingly, Cementoss speaks first, "We should either add to or change the floor plan to create gender neutral bathrooms and changing rooms."
This receives agreement from everyone. The students can't be expected to perform at their best if they aren't comfortable at least some of the time. While UA does intend to push those comfort zones, those plans have nothing to do with their privacy.
Next, Hound Dog speaks, "Therapy. I'm considering this one non-negotiable. It must be done for their sake, especially after everything Apophis did to them. I'm also going to request they attend counseling to try and deal with the remnant of Apophis' successor plan."
More agreements. While there are very few, if any, apparent signs that Dusk is leaning toward Villainy, that doesn't mean they don't exist. Also, in grooming them to be a successor, Apophis could've fed them all kinds of information that would warp their view of the world.
Aizawa speaks next, though not to add a suggestion, "When are they supposed to fly in? It's important that we're given time to plan for their arrival."
Nezu responds easily enough, "The flight is scheduled to arrive a few days before the term starts."
Aizawa nods, making a mental note to go shopping after getting home so that Dusk has things like a bed when they arrive.
After the segment on Dusk concludes, a few final details are ironed out, and everyone is released to go home. Walking out of the building, Aizawa thinks on what affects taking another problem child under his care will have and sighs. It'll probably cost him some sleep, but it'll be worth it. Helping make new Heroes always is.
A/N: Thought I'd try something new, see how it goes. Actually pretty excited for this one because I love the concept I have for the MC, and of course the Dadzawa and DadMic moments that I get to create with this setup. Anyway, I haven't slept at all, so I'm gonna go now. Bye.
