Chapter 139: A Master's Test Part 1
"Why do you think Master Mustard Wants to speak with you?"
Ash shrugged, just as confused as Goh was.
"I don't know, but it sounded important."
The trio approached the battle court, where Mustard was waiting for them, along with the rest of the dojo.
"Ah, Ash, Goh, welcome! Are you ready for your final trial, Ash?"
"Trial?"
Mustard chuckled before continuing.
"The Masters Eight is a mere three days away now, my boy. And while you have trained hard, I want to make sure that you are truly prepared for the trials ahead. Therefore, I have one final test prepared for you."
"Really? Well, bring it on! What is it?"
Mustard grinned, tossing aside his clothes to reveal his battle outfit before backflipping onto the stage.
"Why, a battle with me, of course! As your master, it is my duty to make sure you have surpassed me in every way!"
Ash grinned, and twisted his cap around.
"I accept your challenge!"
A few minutes later, Ash and Mustard were facing each other on the field of battle, bowing to each other before taking their respective spots. Honey stepped forward to act as referee.
"This will be a 6-on-6 battle with no time limit! Each trainer may switch out their Pokemon as often as they wish. In addition, each trainer can use Dynamax, a Z-Move, and Mega Evolution once each. Both trainers shall send their first Pokemon out at the same time. Are you ready?"
"Always!"
"Bring it!"
"Then let the battle begin!"
"Go, Sirfetch'd!"
"Mienshao, go!"
The two fighting types steadied themselves, glaring eachother down as they waited for instruction.
"Mienshao, Fake Out!"
"Iron Defense, Sirfetch'd!"
Mienshao jumped up, ready to strike Sirfetch'd, only to be repelled by his shield before being pushed away by the knight.
"Bounce, Mienshao!"
"Peck, Sirfetch'd!"
Mienshao leapt up, foot extended to kick Sirfetch'd hard in the face, only to be met by his opponent's equally hard beak, both of them recoiling in pain when they connected.
"Close Combat!"
"Meteor Assault!"
The two combatants quickly shook it off and went back at it, trading blow for blow as they clashed, leek sword meeting fists, both sides growing tired but neither wanting to give up.
"Brick Break!"
Mienshao pounced, hoping to land a decisive blow…
Only for Sirfetch'd to position his leak sword in just the right spot to snare him, Mienshao trying to break free but Sirfetch'd wouldn't let him.
"Now, Brutal Swing!"
Sirfetch'd began circling his sword around, making Mienshao very uncomfortable before he threw his opponent high into the air with one mighty swing.
"Now use Brave Bird!"
As Mienshao plummeted to the ground, Sirfetch'd took off, slicing him with his sword before he reached the ground unconscious.
"Mienshao is unable to battle, Sirfetch'd wins!"
"Alright, way to go, Sirfetch'd!"
"Fetch'd!"
Mustard nodded, returning his Mienshao with a proud smile.
"You did well, Mienshao. Get some rest. Go, Luxray!"
"Do you want to keep going, Sirfetch'd?"
Sirfetch'd nodded, determined to see this through.
"You'll regret that, Ash! Luxray, use Thunder Fang!"
"Sand Attack!"
Luxray charged, ready to pounce and bite his opponent, but Sirfetch'd was faster, slashing up a fistful of sand right into Luxray's eyes, blinding her. Luxray growled, shaking his head every which way to try and clear her eyesight.
"Now use Rock Smash!"
Just as Luxray managed to see again, Sirfech'd slammed his leek sword hard into her side, sending her skidding back.
"Alright, now use Meteor Assault!"
Sirfetch'd charged forward, sword posed ready to strike…
"Thunder Wave, Luxray!"
Suddenly, he was hit by a powerful bolt of lightning, stopping him dead in his tracks from Paralysis.
"Now use Thunder Shock!"
"Dodge it, Sirfetch'd!"
Sirfetch'd tried, but his paralysis kept him in place as the bolt of electricity zapped him.
"Now, Thunder Fang!"
Before Ash could issue another command, Luxray pounced, biting down hard onto the Fighting type and refusing to let go. Sirfetch'd tried to bat her off with his sword, but Luxray held firm until Sirfetch'd slumped over in defeat.
"Sirfetch'd is unable to battle, Luxray wins!"
Mustard chuckled at Ash's shocked expression as the boy returned Sirfetch'd to his Pokeball.
"Good job, Sirfetch'd. Get some rest."
"Come on, Ash! Is this the best that my star pupil can do?"
Ash smirked, and readied his next Pokeball.
"Not even close!"
"Then bring it!"
"Ask and you will receive! Go, Rillaboom!"
The Grass Type pounded his chest proudly before sticking his drumstick out at Luxray defiantly.
"Alright Rillaboom, use Hgh Horsepower!"
"Thundershock, Luxray!"
Rillaboom bounded forward, pushing through the lightning bolt that hit him to begin pounding on Luxray, the Electric type struggling to keep up.
"Crunch, and don't let go!"
"Drum Beating!"
Luxray bit down hard on Rillaboom's arm, making the Grass type screech in pain as he began pounding on Luxray's head to force her off, but Luxray held firm.
"Use Uproar, Rillaboom!"
Rillaboom nodded, shrieking louder and louder while flailing about. Luxray clamed down as hard as she could, but eventually was flung off, landing at Mustard's feet with a hard thud.
"Luxray, are you alright?
With a grunt, Luxray pushed herself to her feet, panting heavily.
"Do you want to return?"
Luxray shook his head, refusing to back down. Despite his concerns, Mustard nodded, accepting the choice.
"Alright then, Wild Charge!"
"Drum Beating, Rillaboom!"
Luxray charged once more, the electricity built up around her easily breaking through all of the vines Rillaboom summoned through his drum solo to get to him. Ash waited until Luxray was just about right on him before issuing his next command.
"Acrobatics, followed up by High Horsepower!"
With one skillful leap, Rillaboom gracefully soared over Luxray, before delivering one hard stomp to Luxray's back, the attack and his momentum sending Luxray crashing into a wall. When the dust had cleared, Luxray was knocked out.
"Luxray is unable to battle, Rillaboom wins!"
Rillaboom screeched proudly, pounding his chest in triumph. Mustard chuckled, and returned Luxray to his Pokeball.
"Don't get cocky, my boy. After all, you've only beaten two of my Pokemon. The battle is far from over!"
"I know that, so bring it!"
"Very well, then. Go, Corviknight!"
Ash moved to return Rillaboom to his Pokeball, but a grunt from the Pokemon told him otherwise.
"Are you sure?"
"Boom!"
"Alright then, let's do this!"
"That's the spirit, but it'll take more than that to beat us! Coviknight, use Drill Peck!"
"Wood Hammer!"
Corviknight swooped in, ramming hard into Rillaboom with his beak. Rillaboom recoiled, but quickly countered with a Wood Hammer to the face, sending his opponent flying.
"Get yourself upright, then use Steel Wing!"
"Acrobatics, Rillaboom!"
Corviknight quickly recovered, and flew back down quickly, wings glowing bright white as he prepared to strike. Just before they could strike, though, Rillaboom gracefully dodged the attack. Corviknight tried a few more times, but Rillaboom easily dodged it each time. But as the battle raged on, Rillaboom found it harder and harder to dodge each time, Corviknight becoming more and more determined to land a blow.
"Brave Bird!"
Just as Rillaboom stooped over to catch his breath, Corviknight charged in, knocking him into the air as Corviknight swooped past. Rillaboom never hit the ground though, because Corviknight immediately turned back around and hit him again, the act repeating itself several times.
"Now use Air Slash!"
Rillaboom hit the ground hard, but he had no time to recover before being swept up into the air by the mighty gusts of wind from Corviknight's wings, sending him high into the air. Once the gusts ceased, Rillaboom came crashing down to Earth, out cold.
"Rillaboom is unable to battle, Corviknight wins!"
Mustard chuckled, gently stroking Corviknight's feathers.
"Come on Ash, don't tell me this is all you can do?"
"Not by a longshot!"
Pikachu then began tugging on Ash's cap, getting his attention.
"You want to have a go, buddy?"
"Pika Pika Pi!"
"Alright then! Pikachu, I choose you!"
Pikachu leapt onto the battlefield, cheeks sparking with electricity. Mustard chuckled.
"Come now Ash, relying on Type Advantages to win? I thought I taught you better than that."
"If you're so confident, then show us what you've got!"
"With pleasure. Corviknight, use Drill Peck!"
"Electro Ball, Pikachu!"
Pikachu swung his electric ball right into Corviknight, but the attack barely seemed to register to the bird as it struck Pikachu hard with his beak, sending him flying back.
"Electro Web, Pikachu!"
"Steel Wing!"
Acting quickly, Pikachu managed to throw a web out to catch himself before he hit the wall. But he had no time to rest, for Corviknight was speeding towards him.
"Jump, then use Thunderbolt!"
"PikaCHUUUU!"
Pikachu leapt up, firing a powerful Thunderbolt right at Corviknight. But while Corviknight was greatly damaged by the strike he still pushed through, dealing a swift but brutal blow to Pikachu, nearly knocking him into Ash.
"Pikachu, are you alright!?"
Pikachu grunted, pushing himself to his feet. The look on his face telling Ash he wouldn't back out. With a smile, Ash raised the hand containing his Z-Ring.
"Alright then, let's show him our full power!"
"Pika!"
"10,000,000 Volt Thunderbolt!"
Mustard, seeing how much energy was being built up, realized he had to act fast.
"Brave Bird, Corviknight!"
Corviknight charged into the sky, speeding straight towards Pikachu while powering through the bolts of lightning that struck him before reaching Pikachu in one final attack, the two creating a massive explosion that rocked the battlefield. When the dust had settled, both Pokemon were out cold.
"Both Pikachu and Corviknight are unable to battle! This round ends in a draw!"
Ash quickly ran over to Pikachu and scooped him up into his arms, carrying him to safety.
"Thanks buddy, we'll take it from here. Get some rest."
"Pi," Pikachu said, smiling. Mustard smiled at the scene as he returned Corviknight to his own Pokeball.
"Well done, Corviknight."
Once their partners were safe, Ash and Mustard turned their attention back to each other.
"You've done well so far, Ash, but the worst is yet to come!"
"Then bring it!"
"Man," Goh said to himself. "This battle is intense! Right now, it could go either way."
Just then, his phone began ringing. Confused, he took it out and answered it.
"Hello? What, really? Are you sure?"
Despite his reservations, Goh nodded.
"Alright then, you can count on me."
