Lincoln sat at his desk, waiting for his best friend Clyde so the Action News Team could start their morning announcements. Rusty adjusted the camera while Stella flipped through the script.
"I wonder what's taking Clyde so long? I hope he's okay!" Stella peeked outside the classroom door for any sign of him.
Before Lincoln could start worrying, Clyde finally rushed into the room, looking frantic and exhausted from running. He plopped into the empty chair next to Lincoln, catching his breath.
Rusty began the countdown to start the broadcast. "Alright, we're live in—"
Clyde, unaware the camera was already rolling, leaned toward Lincoln and blurted out, "Luan has a boyfriend! Did you know that?"
Lincoln turned to him, confused. "What? No, she doesn't."
Clyde winced, bracing for an outburst. "I mean… maybe she just forgot to tell you?"
Lincoln barely had time to process the news before—
Rusty cleared his throat, pointing at the camera. "Uh, guys? You do realize we're live, right?"
Lincoln's heart dropped. He slowly turned his head toward the blinking green light on the camera.
Which meant…
The entire school had just heard him find out.
By lunchtime, the moment had gone viral.
Clyde nodded firmly. "But it's true! I have evidence."
He handed Lincoln a stack of photos. Skeptical, Lincoln quickly flipped through them—each one proving Clyde's claim. The first showed Luan and Benny holding hands while on a walk with her friends. The next had them kissing. And the last? Benny pressing a gentle kiss to Luan's forehead.
Lincoln's eyes widened in shock. "No way…"
"And get this," Clyde continued, "I asked around, and they've been together for six months!"
Lincoln's grip tightened on the pictures. "So, what you're telling me is that my fourth eldest sister has been in a relationship for six months and hasn't said anything to us?!"
Students whispered and snickered as Lincoln walked through the cafeteria. Some had even turned his outburst into a meme.
"I totally understand why his sister kept it a secret."
"She might not invite you to her wedding, dude."
The comments stung. Did Luan really not trust him enough to tell him? Had he done something wrong?
Sitting with his friends, Lincoln sighed, poking at his lunch tray. "I just don't get it… why would she keep it from us for so long?"
"Cheer up, Lincoln," Stella said, offering a reassuring smile. "After school, you should go talk to her."
His other friends nodded in agreement.
Lincoln managed a small smile. No matter what, he was grateful for their support.
Back home, Lincoln sat in the living room with Luan, Lucy, and Leni as they watched V.O.M.
Leni frowned at the screen. "I can't believe he lied to her about having a girlfriend. Who does that?!"
Luan, casually scrolling on her phone, glanced up. "She should've been more honest with him from the beginning."
Lucy nodded in agreement. "Yeah, lying never ends well."
Lincoln, still stewing in his thoughts, finally snapped. "That's rich coming from you."
Luan, Leni, and Lucy all turned to him, confused.
"Uh… Lincoln?" Luan tilted her head. "Do you need to vent about something?"
"Did something happen at school?" Leni asked, concern lacing her voice. "You know you can talk to us about anything."
Lincoln sighed. There it was again—honesty. He needed to talk to Luan. Now.
Taking a deep breath, he looked at his sister. "Luan, do you have any good quality cameras that don't pie people in the face? Ours broke earlier."
Luan nodded and motioned for him to follow her upstairs. Once inside her and Luna's shared bedroom, she opened the closet. "Yeah, I think I have one in—"
Before she could finish, Lincoln shut the door behind them and turned to face her. "I really need to talk to you."
Luan raised an eyebrow but patted the spot next to her on the bed. "Alright, I'm listening."
Lincoln took a deep breath and let everything spill out—the Action News fiasco, Clyde's "investigation," how the whole school knew before he did, and most importantly, how scared he was that she was keeping secrets because she wanted to leave them behind.
For the first time, Lincoln realized just how much Luan meant to him—so much so that the thought of her drifting away had made him panic.
A silence stretched between them before Luan sighed and smiled softly. "Lincoln… I did say something five months ago."
Lincoln's head snapped up. "Wait. You did?"
"Yep," she giggled, recalling the moment. "At dinner one night. But I told everyone not to take it seriously because I thought it wouldn't last."
She picked up the photos Clyde had taken, admiring the one where Benny kissed her forehead. A tear slipped down her cheek.
Lincoln panicked. "Are you okay?!"
Luan laughed, wiping her eyes. "I'm fine! You have no idea how happy Benny makes me. And I hid it from you unintentionally." She placed a hand on his shoulder. "I love him, Lincoln. I even told him all about you and how cool you are."
Lincoln blinked. Luan thinks I'm cool?
"I can't wait for you to meet him," she added.
Lincoln grinned. "I can't wait to meet him too."
Then he hesitated. "I, uh… I'm sorry Clyde spied on you guys and told me."
Luan shrugged. "Eh, he was just being a good friend. Honestly, if he hadn't, I probably would've been married to Benny by the time you found out."
They both burst into laughter.
Lincoln then sat up. "So… tell me everything. How did it start?"
Luan's eyes lit up as she recalled the night she and Benny officially became a couple—a Romeo and Juliet play gone wrong.
Back at school, Lincoln sat at his desk, ready to set the record straight.
"As you all know," he began, "I found out my sister was in a relationship for six months. Turns out, she did tell us, but we completely ignored her. So yeah… my bad."
The school's livestream chat exploded with laughing emojis.
"But we talked it out," Lincoln continued, "and I can say that she's really happy. And that's all a younger brother could ask for."
The camera cut to Clyde, who was bawling uncontrollably. Zach, Rusty, and Stella were wiping their eyes too.
Lincoln sighed. "Alright, guys. Now for this week's lunch schedule—"
And just like that, the Action News Team was back in business.
