Chapter III

Star City; 2:23AM

Two men pulled down enter a convenience store on the corner of the street, making their way to the beer aisle they slipped on balaclavas and pulled glocks from the belts, raising them in the air and rushing back to the register.

Three more men rushed in with masks on and automatic weapons in their hands, shouting with aggression, "Down! Everybody down!" he shouted.

As brave as he could muster, the store clerk held his hands up and managed to reach under the counter and sound the alarm when the attackers weren't looking, sending a blaring alarm out around them; as one of the men piled cash into a sack, he noticed his partner about to shoot the clerk who'd alerted the authorities in the head.

He dropped the money and grabbed his partners arm, "Dude, we aren't murderers! It won't do us any good now!" but, the man was unsuccessful as he was shoved back into a register where the assailant took aim again.

"Shut up and get the money," he had his finger on the trigger, "It'll make me feel better," but from a surprising angle, an emerald arrow flew with such accuracy it snapped the mans finger when it pinned the gun to the wall behind them.

"And it'll make me a little cranky," Green Arrow was in full costume pulling an arrow back on his bow and taking the high ground with his arrow aimed down at the unarmed man; the two others decided to light up the grocery rows with automatic bullets, riddling them with thousands of rounds none of which hit their target as Oliver Queen parkoured over the rows, somersaulting from one to the other, dodging the bullets.

He leapt off the last row and fired an arrow upside down, hitting one of the mans gun with a tear-gas explosive arrow that sent a burst of smoke out around them; Oliver leapt in and round house kicked the first one before grabbing the second one by the back of his shirt and tossing him through a window, sending shattered glass about.

Oliver felt confident in his work, taking a last glance around before hearing the distinct clicking of the hammer to a loaded gun being pulled back. He prepared to duck, turn, and disarm the man but before he could a neon-emerald fist flew through the broken window knocking the man threw the air, hitting the cash register back first. Groaning into unconsciousness, "I had that, ya know."

"Sure you did," John Stewart of the Green Lanterns stepped out of the shadows and over the broken glass over the ground, "And your welcome by the way," he folded his arms in disapproval but the headstrong archer couldn't have cared less.

"Oh come on, what? You run out of space aliens or sentient cyborgs to take down, you gotta hone in on my turf?!" He wasn't really shouting, more like a frustrated growl as he passed the glowing man outlined with an emerald aura.

"We never heard back from you."

John curved a smile as Oliver responded, "Oh you know, out here protecting the neighborhood, someones gotta look out for the little guy when you're all out-" he was interrupted when John whispered to himself through a com-link in his ear.

"Ready."

Watchtower; Earth's Orbit; 2:34AM EST

"-zipping around the Galaxy… fighting… aliens…" Oliver was shocked to find himself transmat teleported dozens of miles into the sky instantly, through the atmosphere and aboard a space station of some kind.

He was met with Superman, Flash, Martian Manhunter, Batman, and of course John Stewart who was teleported alongside him. "Where the hell am I?" he looked up and around, noticing two female members of the main seven missing, and also that the stars looked awfully clear from the polycarbonate glass ceiling. "Are we in space? Where are we exactly?"

"You're among friends…" Superman gestured behind the archer who turned to face dozens of heroes of different varieties; sizes, colors, powers, and genders all coexisting at least for the moment, being the former hippie he was, this was pleasing to se peace amongst the heroes. He figured he'd stay to address the reason they were summoned here.

...

Ben sat silently in his bunk, it was a nice quarters but, he sure did miss his king-sized bed in his own personal tower, and holoscreen television which hadn't been invented yet. He laid back on the bunk with his hands behind his head, staring up at the ceiling, thinking intently on how he got here and how he can manage to get back. A combination of science and magic, how he could achieve that here was still beyond his measure.

He heard a knock at the door, "Come in," he deadpanned, not taking his eyes off the ceiling.

It was Diana, holding a tray of rice and pork-chops from the mess hall, he glanced his eyes over and saw her smile, "I noticed you hadn't eaten much since you got here," she sat next to him on the edge of his mattress, placing the tray on the nightstand beside his bed. He was still silent turned to look up again. "Look I'm trying to be nice, if you don't want to talk to me fi-"

Ben closed his eyes and reached out, gently grabbing her wrist keeping her seated on the bed, "I've been fighting what seems like a war ever since I was ten years old; everybody wants my power; everybody wants my money…" He glanced over to her, his emerald eyes meeting her dark pupils for just a moment before they both turned away.

"I-I'm not good at trusting people, and when I don't control myself I hurt people…" he didn't want to go into detail as exactly what he did to Vilgax when he was only fifteen but, that was the tip of the ice burg, "You all seem nice and I don't think I fit in with that."

Diana felt a smile cross her face again, locking her elbow with his and pulling them both up off the bunk, "Let's just go to the orientation, introduce yourself… I know what its like adjusting to a foreign land, I'll be here the whole time," she used her other hand to pat his chest twice before leading him through the sliding metallic door. Since the death of his first wife, Kai; he didn't think he'd ever have these feelings for anyone again, were those butterflies in his stomach?

"Alright, alright…" he chuckled as they left his dark room.

Superman finally began his speech, being the icon and face of the League… spite Batman making most of the tactical and financial decisions, he folded his arms behind his back before announcing himself to the two or three dozen heroes occupying the space below him. "Each of you brings something unique to the table," as he began Diana and Ben approached from behind Green Arrow who was skeptically listening in. Noticing how they were intertwined by the arm; he gave a slight smirk which Ben didn't reciprocate. "Strength, speed, stealth… whatever, but we all have something in common, we're all willing to put everything on the line… sacrificing normal lives and even making the ultimate one."

They all listened from street vigilantes like Shinning Knight and Red Arrow, to heavy hitters like Captain Atom and Dr. Fate Smasher; the one person in the room they respected more than anyone was the man making his speech, the Superman, "Since there are so many of us, we have a chance to do more than just put out fires, literal and figurative, we can be proactive and do some real good in the world…" unbeknown to himself, Ben tightened his arm around Diana's causing her to take notice, finding his expression agreeing with everything the Man of Steel had to say. Focusing intently on the speech, "We have to be organized though, J'ohn will be up here at most times, monitoring activity on Earth, he'll be the one who decides who goes where and when."

Ben furrowed his brow along with many of the other heroes as Superman continued, "I know some of you if not all, are used to making those decisions on your own but, from now on we have to be more coordinated," he spoke with absolute certainty which Ben respected, with this many heroes, it was the smartest choice… he felt not even Greymatter could keep up with a Kryptonian's hyper-accelerated brain.

"We cant be cowboys anymore, or cowgirls…" he received a very slight chuckle from the crowd but, it died down as quickly as it had started. Ben felt that joke was just cringy, being from twenty years in the future, it was an outdated reference, "We all need to operate as a joined unit, our cooperation will increase our ability to save the lives of the people we hold dear."

Ben stroked his beard with his free hand, "He sure knows how to give a speech," he whispered to the side catching Diana's attention.

Before they could continue their conversation, Martian Manhunter, who he'd only briefly met, approached with Green Lantern by his side with a serious expression on both faces, "Mr. Ten Thousand-"

"Just, Ben…" he deadpanned.

"Ben, do you happen to contain transformations that may be able to absorb radiation or manipulate it?" he asked a very specific question and it only took seconds, with Master Control, to search his databanks through the more than ten thousand forms he had access to.

"I have a few, what are we dealing with?" he let go of the princess' arm and stepped forward to observe a tablet in the Martian's hand.

"A strange, highly dangerous nuclear accident but, it seems to be behaving oddly," Manhunter answered, displaying the projection to both Diana and Ben, "It seems to be moving in a straight line."

Green Lantern spoke up and still contested, "We'll need some extra muscle too," he looked out at the crowd and considered possibly taking Supergirl for her strength but, her age dissuaded him as she'd only just turned sixteen.

Manhunter glanced at the two still standing side by side, "Take Diana, she has the strength and experience, and Captain Atom to aid in the absorbing the excess radiation."

"Sounds good to me," John responded turning towards the Javelin Bay where Ben and Diana trailed behind him, "Captain Atom!" he announced catching the former military vet's attention, he turned and floated up to the main deck, "We need you to join Ben, Diana, and John on a mission that may require your unique abilities," the Martian was more than formal but, the solder took his orders in stride.

"Yes, sir," he saluted and joined them as they made their way to the javelin in the loading bay once they arrived.

Ben scoffed as they entered the high-powered orbital jet, "I could probably solve this on my own, why need a team?" he whispered to Diana beside him.

She raised a brow, only giving it a few seconds of thought, "You worked alone as a hero in your world? Sounds lonely," she went to relock his arm with hers but he pulled away, forcing her to grab his hand and hold it tight, "Just see this mission through and if you don't feel like you fit in, you don't have to join," her eyes were sympathetic even if she was a bit forceful about it.

Ben looked straight into her onyx eyes gleaming with a smile that made him want to melt, "Fine, but I'm only going because you're going."

This made Diana smile, loosening her grip on his hand but, not entirely letting go; keeping her palm over the top of his hand as John Stewart spoke up from the cockpit, "Have any of you heard of Chiang Mai?" he asked as he prepped the jet for takeoff.

Atom spoke up from behind, being former military he knew these things, "It's been on the State Departments no-fly zone for decades, class three felony for American citizens to step foot there."

Ben shrugged and announced himself, "If I get thrown in prison I swear…" Diana's hand tightened just a bit stopping him mid-sentence, giving him a comforting smile.

The Green Lantern reassured them, "If you keep your heads down and don't start an international incident, nobodies going to be arrested."

As the Javelin took off from the space station, it astonished him how the once single tower had expanded into multiple orbiting satellites, far more organized than the Galactic Enforcers he had for help on his world. Entering Earth's orbit they quickly made their way down to the country of Chiang Mai; they landed in a grassy plain though, it was the only grassy plain for miles as there was destruction, massive footprints, fires that had been put out recently, and it went on for miles in front of them.

"Looks like we missed the party," Ben noted as he stepped up beside John, who was currently giving out the orders.

He turned to face his group of heroes, "We'll do recon, if you see anything, don't try to engage."

"Roger that!" Captain Atom stood at attention most likely from all the military training he'd done in his years but, John wasn't really going for it.

"You can just say, okay."

Atom shrugged and started walking, "Okay…" with that he marched off towards the wreckage, observing his surroundings closely.

Ben scoffed, shaking his head, "I can do a perimeter search in five seconds flat, like I said I could have done this on my own," he exploded, stunning most of them with the emerald flash of light that engulfed his body. A black and white blur dashed from the light with John just barely seeing the velociraptor alien pass him with his ring's reflexes, "Ben, wait!"

Diana jogged up to the Green Lantern's side, watching as the blur zipped out of sight, circling the area but, also accidently catching the attention of a military caravan which immediately deployed half a dozen soldiers. All armed with RPG's.

Captain Atom glanced around and shook his head at the recklessness of the heroes ego, in those same five seconds, Atom spotted the armed men taking aim at Diana and John from the high-ground. "Hey!" he cupped his hands over his mouth to shout even louder catching their attention just before the first RPG was fired.

Diana stepped forward and used her enchanted bracelets to backhand the rocket out of her way, exploding atop her with minimal damage; John stepped forwards where five more where launched, using his ring to form a half-dome of bright green energy in front of them.

XLR8 sped to a halt behind them, transforming back into his human form, "What are you waiting for? For them to run out of ammunition? There's a nuclear disaster to-" Ben blinked when he was interrupted.

"Shut it, new guy, they may not even have noticed us if someone wasn't breaking the sound barrier all around their freshly destroyed military site," though he was angry, Ben did have a point so, John expanded the shield of his ring harmlessly pushing back the soldiers who dropped their weapons fearing the energy.

Once they were all incapacitated, he grabbed each of their weapons with tendrils of hard-light energy, dropping them a safe distance away, "Boy, the state department sure was right about them not liking foreigners."

Just as the fighting stopped, they all heard the cutting of a helicopter's blades, looking up to notice a chopper slowly hovering down to land a hundred feet or so away. Some military officials stepped out alongside more armed guards with far mor advanced weapons than the RPGs and machine guns used on them moments ago.

"We apologize for the fireworks, Colonel Kym here was only a simple farmer before the revolution; he had no idea who you were," a short yet stern man approached in full uniform with decorated badges across his sleeve and right-pectoral, "I'm General Kwan and most flattered that the Justice League would travel all this way to honor us with your presence but, I must ask… why?"

Ben forgetting he wasn't in charge after being the number one hero on his Earth for so many years, stepped forwards to address the General, "We detected an unusual nuclear incident-"

"A minor problem," he responded quickly with a smile, "Fully under control."

Ben glanced down at his Omnitrix which was flash bright orange and red, detecting massive amounts of radiation in the area, within a few dozen miles of him. He reached out and showed off his forearm, "It doesn't seem fully under control, so if it's all the same to you, I'll just-"

"We said it was fully under control, if its all the same to you," knowing his diplomatic rights and how their country didn't sign the League charter for them to act legally in their state, he spoke with confidence even facing powerful heroes.

Ben stepped forward lowering his arm, "We came a long way to help you guys here and-" he was pulled back by John who shook his head, reminding him of the chain of authority.

"Your help is not welcome here, thank you, and goodbye," he turned as they all made their way back to the chopper they arrived in.

Ben turned and swatted his hand away, "We're just gonna let them walk away? They clearly have nothing under control, people could be dying and-" he was interrupted by a shout drowned out from the soldiers by their chopper.

"Listen here, pal, I don't know where the hell you come from but, you can't just go around starting international incidents; the Justice League would love to be able to help the entire world but, its not up to us to force our help on them!" Ben looked back down to his combat-boots, still scowling as he considered what the Green Lantern had just said to him. "I would have thought a hero of heroes would understand that." Diana put a gentle hand on his shoulder as they turned around, Captain Atom completely respecting the military authority, had nothing to say whilst they headed back to the Javelin.

3 Hours Later

"I'm telling you, J'ohn," Green Lantern was on a video call with the Martian Manhunter using long range satellites developed by Wayne Enterprises, "It took all the will-power I had not to split that guy's hair with my ring," he closed his eyes and rubbed the bridge of his nose, "And don't even get me started on the new guy."

The Martian responded, "You did the right thing, however; the problem is far from under control, it's getting worse."

Diana folded her arms as she approached the cock-pit, "It sounds like they don't want anyone to find out about whatever accident they released, and they aren't very fond of keeping their people safe so long as the secret doesn't get out."

John sighed exasperated, "You have a point, but we have to respect the Government's wishes…" they all glanced back where a blinding flash of emerald light exploded but, nothing was left in its wake.

"I think Mr. Ten Thousand just went AWOL," Atom noted.

Diana's expression saddened, he still wasn't understanding the power in teamwork, the concept of having friends to rely on.

Using his Omnitrix like a geiger counter, he followed the holographic map within XLR8's visor as it directed him through the woods, nearly a hundred miles from their landing area; he stopped and observed with his night-vision as the Kinceleran watched a caravan of people running for their lives with everything they owned strapped to their backs. Trucks, military vehicles, citizens sprinting across the bridge that connected a large ravine.

XLR8 turned to face the opposite direction, noticing the radiation increasing in the direction they were running from, he was about to dash off to handle the disaster when a terrified driver lost control of his caravan. He skidded over the bridge until he hit a support beam horizontally, threatening to tip into the ravine as the lone driver stared at the two-hundred-foot drop from the driver seat.

XLR8 transformed in a flash of light, revealing a black and blue primate-like alien resembling a chimp with blue fur and four arms and six eyes; it screeched before shooting a high tensile strength webbing at the beam just below where the truck would fall. From his tail he shot three more large webs which caught the entire truck but, not for long as the eight-ton vehicle was slowly tearing his webbing. The alien dubbed Spider-Monkey leapt over a hundred feet into the air, landing on the bridge, he balanced on his own webs and tore the door of the truck.

"Come on!" he said with a high-pitched raspy voice, holding his hand out and just as the soldier was about to reach it, the webbing snapped and sent both down towards the ravine. It was only at the last second did Spider-Monkey turn around on what was left of his webbing and fire another shot that caught the man's wrist, allowing the van to hit the ground, exploding with the man hanging safely.

After pulling the man back up onto the bridge, he transformed back into his human form, the soldier shaking his hand as the General from earlier approached him with an angered expression.

"What are you doing here?! I thought I told you to leave!"

Ben frowned and took a step forwards, "I was just trying to save your soldiers life, you're welcome."

"For the last time! We do not need your hel-" Kwan was interrupted by a thundering boom from behind them as the mountains and treetops hid a glowing figure that approached menacingly. In only seconds, it's massive flaming head was visible over the large mountain tops, immediately taking aim at them with its arms which were mounted with cannons instead of hands.

A pure white nuclear energy built in the barrel as Ben transformed immediately, XLR8 evacuating the bridge in under a second just before it was completely vaporized by a beam of intense power, easily capable of matching any nuclear bomb compressed into a single blast.

XLR8 noticed it turned around, the massive giant looking for more weapons or civilians to destroy, the Kinceleran scoffed, "Still don't need our help?" he asked Kwan who grabbed his fallen hat and put it on, frowning as the alien zipped away towards the monstrosity. He took position on a cliff with a good vantage point of the entire beast, definitely man-made with crimson armor and flaming skull for a head.

Ben switched from XLR8 into Chromastone, a sub-species of Petrosapien like Diamondhead only with a thinner physique, dark-magenta crystals, and a single eye with a crystal horn atop his head. He noticed the giant take aim at the civilians who were trapped on the wrong side of a cliff, not able to escape; he quickly acted on instinct, charging up a rainbow-cascaded energy from the pink-crystals pultruding from his back into his hands.

"Hagh!" Chromastone fired a thick beam into the massive beasts armored shoulder blade, he fired again before tossing grenade sized projectiles like baseballs, "Hey ugly! Over here!" the beast did heed his announcement, turning automatically to re-aim at Chromastone. Flying upwards at the last second as the beam vaporized the cliffside where he was positioned, Chromastone only barely made it until the beast followed him up and scathed him with an energy he couldn't absorb. "AGH!" Chromastone went spinning downwards in a heap of smoke, only a few dozen feet from the ground, he was caught by an angel that looked deeply into his eyes with her ocean blue iris'.

"Are you okay?" Diana asked as Chromastone quickly shook the daze off, recognizing his friend and nodding in response.

He transformed back into his human form, "Yea, I couldn't stand by and do nothing; I'm fine but if I hadn't left those people would have been-"

"I understand, John might not and Atom is just a soldier following orders but, I understand," Diana spoke to him as they flew through the air, it was something about the way she said it, the tone of voice she used. He could tell she was being sincere.

Behind her the armored behemoth took his sights on Diana but, Green Lantern came from behind with a massive fifty-foot hammer construct crashing down on its head. Captain Atom approached as it turned around to face John, "I'll try and drain it, you help the civilians," he gave the best plan he could prompting John to nod, leaving the Captain to do his work.

Green Lantern flew down towards the cliff, summoning a bridge construct for the people and their cattle to cross the ravine safely, after checking if it was safe, the foreigners sprinted across the bridge as fast as possible.

Captain Atom began the absorption as the flaming yellow nuclear energy flowed from its flaming skull into his bright blue aura, clearly straining him. "Drop me," Ben shouted at Diana over the wind shear of their flight.

"What?!"

"Just do it!" She trusted him enough to let go of his arms, even from their height, and in mid-air a flash of emerald relieved her of her worried; a warrior in white flew with a trail of emerald energy towards the Captain who was becoming overwhelmed by the nuclear energy. Diana stopped her flight to watch as John did the same, keeping the bridge solid so people could continue to evacuate.

Atom was shocked when a skinny humanoid clad in white armor that contained the nuclear energy that gleamed from the clear canisters across his wrists appeared beside him. His faceplate was completely expressionless and had no mouth only ominous glowing eyes. "Together?!" he shouted from behind his faceplate.

"Ten-Four!" Captain shouted through his teeth as Atomix clapped his hands together with incredible force, the trimmed lining of his suit glowing brighter as half of what Captain Atom was absorbing flowed into Atomix as well. This drain of energy forced the massive behemoth down to one knee, the General safe on the other side of the ravine smiled for a moment but, it wasn't over yet.

Atomix and Captain Atom began writhe in pain, "This isn't just… nuclear energy… it's something else entirely, I-I can't!" an explosion rocked Atom's chest like a short-circuit, sending him tumbling to the ground where Diana rushed to catch him, but failed. Still kneeling by his crater, "Whatever they did to the energy powering that thing, it's not normal… it was just too much."

Diana peered up at Atomix still screaming but, not in pain rather out of sheer will power to continue draining as much as he could, "haaAGHH!" emerald lightning surrounded him as he sucked up as much of it as he could, the energy causing his armor to simmer and smoke. The monster was weakened but not defeated, slowly regaining its power somehow; Atomix's eyes went wide in shock, thinking of only one other option to keep it down.

Atomix flew upwards into the sky where his emerald aura lit up the night sky like a second Moon, almost changing the color of the atmosphere itself. He channeled every last bit of the power he already had and absorbed from the giant into his right fist. It all happened so quickly, Atomix came down with his fist atop the brute's head at nearly half the speed of light, sending cracks through its skull and it onto its stomach.

The shockwave shook the trees and surprised the other conscious Leaguers, Diana rushed into the air after the wind blew passed her, landing beside Atomix who transformed in a flash of red-light, something she'd had never seen before. The beast wasn't dead, the skull was still slowly simmering and since it likely didn't have a brain, it could keep destroying with a damaged skull.

Ben fell to his knees holding his right fist, hiding it from sight as Wonder Woman arrived beside him; "We need to get out of here, that thing isn't dead and I'm sure it wont be happy when it gets up."

She attempted to scoop him up but noticed his cringing when she grazed his hand, pulling his wrist up to eye level where she noticed second-degree burns all across his knuckles and palm. "You can't fight like this, you know… you could-"

Ben took a step back and chuckled, "Get hurt? Die? Who exactly is going to miss me if I did die?" he nearly shouted the last part, clearly in severe pain, "I told you all that I could do this myself and now that I know I cant do this the easy way, I'll handle it the hard way."

John landed with Captain Atom in a comfortable cot-construct floating behind him, "You can't go out there by yourself, you need a plan, a team."

"I don't need anyone," looking back into Diana's eyes, he felt guilty when he noticed her softened expression that begged him not to go silently, "Especially not you guys."

Ben forced the Omnitrix to transform via Master Control regardless of the damage to his hand, XLR8 took off even faster than Diana or Green Lantern could track if they wanted.

XLR8 stopped on a dime drudging up some dirt when arrived on the scene of the destruction that occurred the day prior to their battle, transforming back into his human form, he approached one of the men in a yellow hazmat suit.

"What am I up against out there?"

He took off his helmet showing visible but minor radiation burns, about to speak up when an officer stepped in and interrupted, "Do not tell him anything! That is classified-" with a flash of emerald light revealing a ten-foot-tall creature made entirely of vines, a single eye furrowed as Wildvine tendrils wrapped the man around his body until it reached his throat, "I have had it with this bull-crap nonsense classified whatever, do you know what'll happen if that thing continued to rampage? Millions could die!" not receiving an answer, the Flourana tightened his tendril around the man's neck, "You have till the count of five to talk, officer," he tightened the vines a bit harder, "One… four!"

The man in the hazmat suit couldn't care less about orders anymore, he spoke up freely allowing Ben to transform back into a human, the tendrils vanishing as the officer fell to his knees choking. "It was supposed to be our protector, to protect us from the foreigners, we used experimental radiation that will keep its power sustained indefinitely."

"So you lost control of it? Is that it?" Ben said just as Diana arrived, John having gone back to the Javelin to treat Captain Atom. Ben was happy to see her but, remained with a serious expression as she didn't seem very happy to see him.

"We had carbon dampening units but, once it was activated the radiation and temperature, nothing could survive getting close enough to insert them," he glanced back at a truck with crates loaded with the carbon-rods.

"Where's the main reactor?"

He shook his head in shame, "In the center of the torso, but the radiation has made the heat far too excessive for anyone to insert them."

"I'll handle your big bad monster, and next time the League comes to help, make sure you give them the full story before you lose thousands of lives," he scolded.

Ben turned on his heel, through with the democracy and politics, more importantly though, he was done holding back; Diana approached and grabbed his uninjured wrist, pulling him back, "What exactly do you plan on doing?"

Ben turned to look her in the eye, gently pulling his wrist from her grip, "What I should have done from the start…" he transformed into a stingray-like alien with crimson skin and bright green eyes. Jetray took off upwards into the atmosphere and back towards the area where he'd knocked out the behemoth.

Though, he wasn't expecting it to not only be relatively uninjured but, already up and searching for more weapons and human life to eradicate. Its stomps shook the mountains as it scanned the area around it, "Looks like its hero time," Jetray exclaimed even with Diana flying slower behind him, she heard him perfectly.

This time though, she stopped mid-air during his transformation's explosion of light, even catching the Juggernaut's attention from behind as what appeared to be a cast-iron armored man who flew directly into it, gripping its shoulder blade, "Okay," he started in a Russian accent, unlocking the harness on his armor, revealing a being of pure nuclear energy within. NRG, as he was dubbed, wore a suit that dampened high levels of radiation.

Diana watched as he tore apart the armor, flying across the behemoth that swung down at him, while being made of energy, he still had mass meaning when he was swatted out of the sky, he still hit the ground like anyone else. Still, he got back up and tore the arm off his armor, flying back up and forcing himself through the immense heat akin to the surface of the Sun radiating from the core which NRG rammed the entire arm into.

As he was still ensuring the material dug deep into the main reactor, electricity began to surge striking the trees around them, the main vessel fell apart but, only seconds before exploding in a massive nuclear detonation erupted with tens of kilotons, shaking the ground and vaporizing everything in sight.

Diana had to fly back even further to avoid the blast but, still felt the shockwave as she looked out at the destruction for any signs of Ben, John showed up only a minute or two later after hearing the explosion using his ring to scan the debris. In the dirt, partially buried, Ben was in his human form with first-degree burns across both of his arms, and half of his face aside from where the Omnitrix sat.

"Ben!" Diana landed in front of him as Green Lantern used a pully-construct to slowly pull him out without tearing any limbs; she lunged at him the moment he was free, embracing him even though he was hardly conscious.

"Did that work?"

John scoffed, folding his arms over his chest, "Surprisingly, it did."

"Great," Ben immediately passed out in her arms, slumping over and just immersing himself in her scent and the texture of her skin until he was completely out.

Watchtower

Diana sat in the med-bay with Ben who was being treated for his burns, keeping him company as his arms healed up, bandaged up to the shoulder blade. He woke suddenly with a gasp, "Gah!" he shot up out of bed in pain, feeling a gentle hand on his chest pushing him back into the sheets.

"Relax, you aren't in battle, you're in medical bay on the Watchtower," Diana reassured him, calming him as he sat back on his pillow and stared up at the ceiling, "You know, what you did today was stupid, reckless, and could have gotten yourself killed."

Ben chuckled which caused a painful cough, "If it doesn't surprise you, I've heard that before."

She smiled at his remark, "It was also incredibly brave, noble, and selfless; you risked your life for the lives of who knows how many innocents that didn't even want your help," she placed her hand on his as gently as possible, intertwining hers with his bandaged fingers between. He looked up and noticed the warmest smile, she leaned in and pecked him on the cheek, even enjoying the scruff of his beard.

As she pulled away with lowered eye-lids, Ben chuckled this time keeping his composure, "Maybe I'll join after all."

I dunno how often ill be updating this.
