Girls, Gillettes and Gore part 5 (final part)
Joe's pov
(A/N: spoilers for Scream 1-6, tread carefully)
The voice on the phone, untraceable as I already knew it would be, drawled on
"Detective Hill... Link the first Scream to the 5th."
Annoyed and wanting to show off a bit, I added a few details and flourishes to my answer
"A couple of things, actually. In the first cut of the 1996 Scream, Scream 1, Deputy Dewey Riley died, only to have that bomb with audiences in screen tests and changed. In the 5th, Scream 2022, he was not so lucky, and died. Unless you're looking for the more obvious links, such as the Macher house returning under ownership of the Freeman family, Amber Freeman being a Ghostface. Or, a pretty niche one, Dewey says he sees Sid as a young Meg Ryan in the first Scream. In the 5th, her son Jack Quaid, is the other Ghostface."
I could tell the voice on the other side of the line grew annoyed, perhaps not expecting me to meet and surpass their expectations. The voice darkened
"No one likes a show-off. This next one is for Detective King. It's my understanding she does not know as much as you. And don't try to help her."
She gulped, waiting for the question
"Link the irony and satire present in the final version of the third movie."
Losing the fear in her voice, she spoke
"Clever that you ask that knowing I'm only halfway through the second movie. But Joey talks about this franchise A LOT. And I thought it was pretty clever to have a satirized form of producer Harvey Weinstein in the form of John Milton. Weinstein couldn't shut down the script and character of Milton without confirming the allegations around him. I also love how Dewey and Gale's rollercoaster relationship mirrored the status they had at the time in real life."
The voice bellowed
"That was my next question! Detective Hill, your turn."
Easygoing voice, I replied
"Shoot."
The voice sneered
"Original Ghostfaces from 2 and 3 before being changed."
Just as quickly, I replied
"Hallie McDaniels and Derek Feldman for 2, Sid's best friend and boyfriend. For 3, Angelina Tyler was supposed to be Roman's helper. We never do see her officially dead, and there are kills Roman couldn't have possibly made unless he can be in two places at once. We saw Angelina don the robe in the bathroom, Sid catches her. And being that she plays Sid in the Stab movie filmed in 3, that might be it."
Voice tight from anger and frustration, he went on
"Returning alums from other movies not counting Sam's visions of Billy?"
I laughed
"Yeah, that's a god one, because they're subtle. Matthew Lillard from 1 as a partygoer in 2 and Drew Barrymore's voice as the Principal in 5."
More annoyed, he went on
"For both of you now. Which door am I at?"
Having seen this scene play out in the first movie, even Lori already knew there were two foes for us, one at each door. One had been silent while the other had been grilling us. She started to go towards one of the doors with her gun, and I went towards the other after we replied
"One at each door."
Thankfully, she shot her opponent after he drew his knife but before she could get hurt. Shot in the head, dead then and there. My Ghostface was a bit faster, managing to slice me in the arm before I ended him too. Much to the likeness of the sixth installment, and as I had suspected from the beginning, our enemies were indeed corrupt cops, but thankfully not resurrected Blue Templar. They were too dead to properly disclose their motives. I got patched up at St. Victor's and Lori and I went our separate ways.
