Raider gave them a bit more time to settle down and take in the information. In some twisted curiosity Team JNPR and Sun wanted to know who their voice actors were. Saving the best for last, Raider started with Sun, then to Jaune, Pyrrha, and Nora.
Ren was confused as to why he was the last one to know his. "You're voice actor from volumes 1- mid volume 3 was the creator of the show itself, Monty Oum." To say Ren was surprised would be an understatement, but he immediately caught onto a word Raider used.
"Wait, why did it end in the middle of volume 3?" Raider's mood shifted, and Ren instantly knew. "Well, I'm honored to have been voiced by him." Ren gave the man a moment of silence before asking his next question, "That leaves me to wonder, who voices me in the future?"
"You're voiced by his brother, Neath Oum." Ren was glad that his brother was able to carry on for his brother, and though it would be weird his voice will change, Ren didn't mind it as much as he originally thought.
With this and the mood much more light, the group was happy to continue and watch the volume finale.
(Volume 2 Intro)
The episode begins with Jaune sleeping in his bed. His scroll begins to ring and he sees that it's Ruby. He gives a groggy 'hello', wincing away from the scroll as it lets out a sharp static noise before hanging up.
Come next morning Team JNPR make their way to the docks, Pyrra telling Jaune that she's sure they're fine. Nora is with Pyrrha, assuming it was just a butt dial.
"Why are we so calm about this? Jaune gets a random call from Ruby in the middle of the night, his scroll gives off some alarming noise and we're assuming it's a butt dial?" Nora screams as her arms are outstretched towards the screen, a look of disbelief on her face at how unbothered her team is about this.
"It was the middle of the night, why would Ruby have her phone on her for a simple accidental butt dial!" Jaune couldn't be completely blamed at the time, it was night and he was just woken up. In the morning the situation could have been thought over more cognitively.
"Team RWBY has always performed exceptionally in the field, we should be focusing on our mission." Ren wasn't in that much distress, he trusts Team RWBY's abilities. Nora was the same as she shouts that her and Ren were gonna be deputies.
"I just got this…feeling, I don't know," Jaune still wasn't convinced. Pyrrha was about to talk to Jaune but sirens began to blare in the distance. In Vale, a large cloud of smoke is making its way into the air, and not a moment later the sirens at Beacon begin to go off. "We're changing our mission, everyone on board," Jaune doesn't waste a second as he runs towards the ship, the rest of his team following behind.
"It took sirens to make them realize something was wrong," Nora said, exasperated.
Jaune makes sure all of his teammates are onboard before stopping Ren for a second, "Ren, we'll make it out to that village another time." Ren gives him a nod, then proceeds to join the others. Jaune directs the pilot to take them to the city. Changing course, the ship flies them to Vale.
Observing from far away is Cinder, with Mercury and Emerald right next to her. Mercury asks Cinder what they're going to do after he and Emerald bicker that the appointed time for this was days away.
Grimm of all kinds surround Team Rwby, the girls doing the same, waiting for the grimm to make the first move. The King Taijitu gives a screech, sending all grimm towards them at once.
The four prepare for battle; Ruby stabs Crescent Rose into the street, simultaneously taking out grimm as she spins in a circle. Yang uses the head of a creep as leverage to propel herself into the air, firing at all the grimm from the skies, but she's inevitably by three nevermore.
"Man, why aren't we there yet!" Nora knows her friends can handle themselves, but she still wants to be there to help them however she can.
Ren places a hand on Nora's shoulder, hoping it would calm her down. It does, but Nora still sits in her seat, eagerly awaiting for her and her friends' arrival.
A beowulf attempts to claw at Blake but meets the fate of so many others. Once it's down Blake shoots down all the encircling grimm around her. Weiss was handling her own just like the rest of her team, stabbing each grimm that approached her and sending many more back as she summons a large glyph that creates a giant sword of ice.
A car crashes into a small group of grimm as Yang punches the trunk and flings it forward.
"Man, now you guys are just having all the fun," Nora whined as she slumped into her seat with her arms crossed.
Ruby stood face to face with the King Taijitu after taking out two grimm, but a loud bang in the distance caught both of their attention; Nora comes riding in on Magnihild, smashing the King Taijitu's head into the concrete. The rest of Team JNPR appear not long after.
"Oh, nevermind, there we are!" Nora's right in her seat, her happiness growing immensely.
Jaune blows a hair out of his face after Pyrrha directs the team to attack. One by one Ren and Nora take out their own foes, then Jaune comes jogging into the field, asking who's first. On cue, a large ursa drops right behind him.
Could I maybe have gotten a much easier opponent? This was more or likely some kind of comedic moment.
"Ohohohokay, you're first, huh? Hahaha, okay, that's fine," Jaune nervously laughs as he slowly backs away from the massive thing. Over in a different area, Pyrrha takes care of the grimm on that side of the plaza, but her face falls as she sees Jaune in trouble. "Totally fine, done this before, done this before," With a deep breath Jaune repeatedly slashes the ursa, letting out a long battle cry. When he's done, Jaune and the ursa stand still, that is until the ursa falls back, defeated.
Jaune looks at his future self proudly, his training with Pyrrha had helped him improve and Jaune was happy to see himself single handedly bring down the ursa. His friends agreed as they cheered him on.
Pyrrha smiled in pride as she watched Jaune take down the grimm. "Nobody move, Junior Detectives!" Sun shouts as he and Neptune appear above the fallen grimm, pulling out badges from their pockets. Neptune and Sun give each other a fist bump as Neptune says it's official because of their badges.
The area around them rumbles as the cavalry arrives, making Sun drop his badge, eyes wide.
"Yeah! Backup has arrived!" Yang pumps one of her fists close to her side.
Team Rwby look up at all the airships that have come to help. Unbeknownst to Ruby, an ursa comes running towards, but it was quickly taken down by one of the airships, Ruby waves them a hand as thanks.
Ruby notices that Weiss let out a small breath of air after the ursa was taken down. Ruby didn't say anything, not about that small action or why her inside got all bubbly at that one tiny action.
From the airships Atlesian Knights drop from above, immediately shooting as soon as they hit the ground.
Everyone thought it was a good thing that General Ironwood decided to bring so much of his military.
Two knights knocked down by a spinning boarbatusk. Three other knights were relentless in bringing down an ursa. A beaten down ursa landed in front of Cinder, Mercury, and Emerald. Cinder nudges her head to the fight, Mercury lightens up with glee as easily brings down an ursa. Emerald walks leisurely towards a group of grimm, taking out Thief's Respite.
"Why are they helping? If they're on Roman's side why aren't they taking this moment to attack us?" Nora didn't understand why they weren't taking this opportunity to turn the tables on them.
"It might have to do with what they were talking about earlier, how it wasn't time yet, they're probably going to be keeping up appearances until then," Pyrrha rationalized, or guessed at the very least.
Nora gave an 'oh' face, figuring that made enough sense.
Each grimm fell, one after the other, though Emerald had a bit more trouble with the last one being an alpha ursa. She brought it down as she changed Thief's Respite's form to blades, slicing at the grimm until it was defeated. From the large crater, a paladin emerged from underground with Zwei jumping off from it and headbutting a beowolf.
"Yeah Zwei!"
"That's our good boy!" Both Yang and Ruby shouted from their seats.
Flying above are Team CFVY and Professor Port, all four jump down and two out of four rush into battle. Yatsuhashi stands where he is as beowolves surround him. Slowly removing Fulcrum from his back he smashes the concrete, creating a crater in the ground and sending all the beowolves flying. Fox faces all the grimm in front of him, going for the alpha ursa. He kicks it in the air before attacking its stomach, finishing it off with a strong punch to the head, the ursa explodes, sending all of its spines into the nearby grimm.
I can't wait to be like that in the future! Ruby was starry eyed, wishing the future could come sooner rather than later.
Noticing her sister, Yang reaches over with determination in her eyes, "Don't you worry Ruby, that's gonna be us when we're older."
"I just wish time could skip forward!" Ruby whined.
Oh, Ruby… You're gonna wish you never said those words.
Coco deflects the spines coming in her direction with Gianduja. "Nice hustle Fox, good job," the woman comes up behind to give him a small slap on the butt. Coco stands face to face with a beowolf 10 times her size, and she just slides her glasses down to the bridge of her nose. "You just destroyed my favorite clothing store," She takes a moment to spit on the sidewalk before continuing, "Prepare to die."
The giant beowolf attempts to land a crushing paw on her but Coco swats it away and kicks the beast's crotch, making it fall to its knees.
All the boys in the room winced, knowing how painful that is and almost feeling sorry for the grimm.
The large grimm moans in pain, looking up at the woman. Coco slowly raises Gianduja to swiftly bring it down on the beowolf's head.
Coco lifts her head to see three beowolves and a deathstalker coming forward. She gives them the same treatment, knocking all the beowolves away with Gianduja, as well as kicking the last one's butt, literally. The death stalker tries to stab her with its stinger, but Coco jumps backwards, dodging it.
Next to Coco, Velvet reaches for Anesidora but is stopped. "Hey, come on, you spent all semester building that up, don't waste it here." Coco raises a hand, motioning for her to stop. Slowly walking forward Coco transforms Gianduja into its machine gun form, and rapid fires, killing the deathstalker, the grimm on the ground, and the nevermores in the sky. Coco looks ahead as the rest of her team watch the nevermores crash into the buildings behind them.
Ruby couldn't contain herself as she bounced in her seat, eyes glowing. A good half of the room was feeling the exact same way, the other three being Yang, Nora, Sun, and Jaune.
Zwei came over to Dr. Oobleck, barking. Dr. Oobleck gave a nod to Professor Port as a massive group of grimm came charging at them. Using a combo attack from both of their weapons all the mass of grimm were blasted back in a mass of fire. Glynda appears, killing two grimm behind her without turning her head and using The Disciplinarian to fix the large gash that the train broke.
Mercury and Emerald wordlessly give Roman to the Atlesian Knights where they proceed to walk him on board. All the kids and teachers smile at a mission well done.
"Man, so glad that's over, just watching that was tiring," Yang grunts as she stretches her arms, apologizing to Blake when she extends them a bit too far.
"We still have a bit left of the episode, so I wouldn't say we're done yet," Weiss points to the screen as it shows there's a good amount of white that shows how far into the episode they are.
"If the episode was done with all the craziness then it would be further along." Blake moves Yang's arm that stretched a bit too much.
Both responses result in Yang huffing to herself.
"Well, we did it," Yang was the first to speak as the four of them overlooked the city near the docks. Blake agrees with her and Weiss will be seriously disappointed if they don't get any extra credit for this.
Weiss firmly nodded her head, concurring with her onscreen counterpart, and ignoring the small laughs from her friends.
"You just stopped Roman and you're worried about not getting graded properly?" Sun asks in disbelief. Again, Weiss just nodded her head without a word.
"All we did was finally put him behind bars, we're still in the same place we were from the beginning." Sun's expression fell when it turned away from Weiss to Blake.
"Weiss, a two-headed snake literally crushed a bakery, I wouldn't count on it," Yang adds with a small shake of the head.
"Plus, I mean, we didn't solve everything, a lot of people were hurt and still don't even know why they did this or who that mystery girl was." Ruby looks at the reality of the situation, they don't have any leads and are still at the start with nothing. Weiss tells Ruby that not all stories have a neat and tidy ending.
"We might not have all the answers but we do have a lot of dangerous people behind bars, and I think that's something we can be proud of." Blake explains, looking on the more positive side of the situation.
"Like I said, you put Roman and many White Fang members in jail," Sun states the first part of his argument with Weiss and the girl was going to point it out but figured it was no use and kept quiet.
"Yeah," Ruby happily agrees with Blake, "And if anyone tries something like this again, we'll be there to stop them."
If only you 9 knew how awful the future is gonna get you wouldn't be saying those words.
"Yay…Teamwork, comradery, go guys, go team, good job," Yang stretched, laying on her back as each word trailed off. "So, what now?" She asks, resting on her forearms as she asks the group. Weiss suggests they train for the Vytal Tournament, but she's pretty sure they have it covered.
Blake trails off until Ruby proposes they sleep, everyone is all over the idea as they get up to go back to their dorm.
"With the mission we had, I believe sleep is well deserved," Says Weiss. They did a lot more work than they were asked to on their first mission.
Ozpin looks out the window but turns his chair when the councilmen demand his attention. "You've left us with no choice, the Vytal Festival cannot be broadcasted let alone held if we are unable to ensure the safety of the citizens." Opzin's response to them was a sip from his mug, "Therefore, we have reached out to the Atlas Council and together have decided that the best option is to appoint General Ironwood as head of security for the event."
Ironwood's image grows larger on the screen as he speaks, "Thank you councilmen, our kingdom is happy to lend as many troops as it takes to ensure this event runs as smoothly and safely as possible."
The room let out a collective breath, for a second they thought they were going to cancel the Vytal Festival altogether.
The councilmen thank the general and Ozpin asks if this will be all. "For now, but after this festival comes to a close we're going to have a serious discussion regarding your position at Beacon Academy. General Ironwood reports of these last few weeks have left us somewhat… concerned. I'm sure you understand." With the final word the councilmen disconnect from the call.
"This is the right move Ozpin, I promise I will keep our people safe. You have to trust me." Ozpin doesn't say a word as General Ironwood leaves, turning around his chair back towards the window.
"You brought this on yourself," Ironwood says to no one as he looks out from his own window, staring at Beacon's tower. Walking away he heads towards Roman's cell, each of the guards next to it give him a salute.
The door of the cell opens and Ironwood demands that the guards leave them.
Is this one of those moments where we might get something or is that serious wishful thinking? Ren ponders as he silently pulls out his notebook.
"I've been informed that so far you've refused to cooperate with the authorities." Ironwood states, the man in custody slowly raising his head to look the general in the eyes.
"No duh, he's a criminal," Yang said as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. "What criminal would comply with police wishes?"
"I know this might be hard to believe, general, but I'm not the biggest fan of local law enforcement."
"How about the world's strongest military power?" Ironwood asks with a smirk, crossing his arms. Roman hums, thinking it over before answering that his first impressions weren't that great. "I'm going to give you one chance. Who's really behind all this?"
They knew that Roman wasn't going to give him a straight answer but the group of kids leaned in closer from anticipation anyways, clinging to the little hope they might get the smallest amount of information to possibly work with.
"Isn't it obvious?" Roman asks, moving his face out of the shadow of the cell, "You're looking at him."
The whole room collectively groans in frustration, wondering why they expected anything to come from this. What else did I expect? Ren puts the notebook away with a slight roll of the eye.
Ironwood sighs in resolve, knowing he wasn't going to get any real information out of him. He walks away from the cell as Roman shouts from it, "What's the matter general!? I thought you wanted to talk!"
"The council has given me custody over you for as long as I see fit. So you can make yourself comfortable, I can assure you will have plenty of time to…talk." Roman mumbles with a sigh, chuckling evilly as the cell door shuts.
"All in all, I'd call today a success," Cinder says with a malicious smile to Emerald and Mercury. Emerald complains that the kids made a stupid of everything, Mercury agrees, adding that a lot of Faunus didn't make it out of the tunnels in time.
Blake's throat felt tight after hearing that.
You had to do what you had to, even if at the cost of a few lives.
"Hey, Blake, you okay?" Blake hadn't even noticed that she'd spaced out, Yang being the one to bring her back. She only let out a noise of confusion, "We lost you for a second, is everything okay?"
For a few moments she stayed silent, but gave a small sigh. "It's…all the Faunus in the tunnels." They might have been on the other side, but those were still lives that were taken, Faunus that were killed.
That was all Blake needed to say as Yang opened up an arm for Blake to come in for a comforting hug. Yang didn't move, giving Blake the option to stay where she was if she so wanted to.
Blake moved, but entirely beside Yang, she was more in the middle and Yang smiled, nodding and respecting her choice as she put her hands down.
"Ya' know, Yang isn't the only one to come to," That moment was broken as Nora looked down at them with a teasing look. "You always got us!" The rest looked at the two, amused, as their faces went slightly red.
"It's nice to see you opening up, and I get Yang is the only one over there with you, but you still have us," Weiss deadpans, gesturing to her and Ruby.
Blake and Yang averted each other's eyes, deciding it best to just finish the finale.
Mercury asks if the White Fang is going to listen to them, and a new voice and figure come on screen as he tells them 'No'.
"Who's that?" Nora asks, not fully understanding the severity of this man.
The rose on his jacket…looks…like…. Ruby turns her head to Blake who's staring at the screen, absolutely horrified, all color drained from her face in a matter of seconds. "Blake?" Ruby asks the Faunus, worried.
"A-A…" Words weren't processing as Blake's mind raced. He's working with Roman? Why? Why would he ever want to work with humans? What is he doing here? He's behind all of this?
blake…
What does he want? Does he know I'm here?
Blake…
Blake could hear her name getting louder but she doesn't know where it's coming from.
Is he gonna come after me and my friends?
Blake quit thinking about questions having to do with the operation and became more focused on her and her friends.
What if-?
"Blake!" The girl flinches and scoots away on the couch. Everyone eyes her with extreme worry. "Hey, it's okay, he's not here, he's frozen in time somewhere back home." Yang's voice is gentle and soft, hoping to reach the girl.
Ruby and Weiss slowly move to get up as Yang makes tiny movements to her. When Blake freezes, that's when all three pause.
It didn't take a genius to know.
That was Adam.
They weren't going to continue the episode to get the scene over with, their first priority is to get Blake more comfortable to go on. And if they have to wait then so be it.
"Blake, it's alright, he isn't here, you're safe. We're safe." Yang wants to reach a hand towards her but at the moment it wasn't the best time.
With a few more tries from everyone Blake began to ease up, enough where her breathing was normal and she began to relax more in her seat. Looking around the room, Blake opened her mouth but Weiss quickly made her shut it. "If you plan on apologizing then it's best to save your breath, there's absolutely no reason for you to be apologizing to us."
Blake was about to object but Weiss's stern, but warm, stare made her keep quiet. Looking around her at all her friends, Blake honestly couldn't help but feel like taking this moment to cry. Out of the blink of an eye, a box of tissues appeared between her and Yang.
Blake looked towards Raider who gave her a soft nod. That was what broke her, the tears began to fall but a smile was plastered on her face all the while.
Not a moment later and Blake was encased in one of the biggest group hugs she's ever been in. Even after all that she was just a bit reluctant, but gave in to all her friends.
As everyone let go, Yang, Weiss, and Ruby didn't, protective of their friend. Blake let out a small chuckle, "You guys can let go now." That was when Weiss and Ruby let go but Yang firmly held strong, feeling the most protective of her best friend.
With a small laugh Weiss and Ruby went back to their seats. Blake looked at Yang who didn't let go. She was about to say something to her, but it fell flat when Blake's body finally registered how safe she felt in Yang's arms.
Blake completely relaxed with a hum as she faced the screen, whispering a soft thank you to her partner.
Blake was finally ready to move on.
"But they'll listen to me," Was the first and last thing Adam said as the screen went black and the credits began.
That was the end of the episode and volume. Quite a rollercoaster if you asked the kids, their future has quite the journey if they do say so themselves.
All of them gave a good stretch, figuring now was as good a time as any for some sleep. Standing up from their seats, they all began to head to their respective rooms, except for Sun who stayed behind.
Raider, knowing what he was going to ask, snapped him a new room right next to Weiss, Ruby, Jaune and Pyrrha.
"Sweet, my own room!" Heading to his own Raider went back to the theatre room to clean.
