Chapter 6: Home invasion

"No, Carlisle it is excluding. You can't go alone, it's too dangerous."

Edward was furious.

"Try to understand, we need to find out if they are as dangerous as we think, or not as your daughter says."

"No, and Renesmee is just a child, she can't understand… she's too young."

"Even though I'm young, I can understand, in fact I'm angry with you because you made me believe things that turned out to be wrong."

"What are you talking about?" Bella asked worriedly. She had never seen her daughter so determined.

Renesmee didn't answer. She just pursed her lips together. She had to be careful what she said, she didn't want to get her new friends in trouble, and she didn't want to get her into trouble. At the time, she couldn't stand that girl. Edward knew it and laughing about it. She resentment was very close to hatred until she learned the truth. Sabrina told him this unknowingly with a brain connection. She had changed towards her since then and her family wasn't so perfect in her eyes anymore.

"Take off that ring," Edward ordered his daughter.

"No," the little girl said sharply.

Edward took a few steps in her direction, but Carlisle stopped him.

"No, my boy, I think it's best to find out the truth and I'll do it my way," the doctor said.

"Okay, but you're not going alone, I coming…"

"No, I'll will go with Dr. Cullen. I owe my life to them," Irina said.

The sisters Denali didn't agree and neither did Edward and Emmett. Jasper walked over to his brothers and whispered something in their ears.

"Okay, go ahead, but be careful." Edward turned to Jasper and whispered, "Good idea."

Jasper smiled. Jacob took a few steps toward the doctor.

"No, boy, you're not coming. I'm sure nothing bad will happen."

oOo

The trio arrived at their destination around 10:00. The sun was shining high in the sky, but since it was still the middle of winter they managed to hide their 'secret' under heavy woolen clothing and long hooded jackets. The building where the newcomers were staying was located on the outskirts of Forks in the industrial area. It was a rather large building, about 500 square meters, but nondescript. The outside walls were gray and weathered. A faded sign outside the main door told them it was a long-abandoned printing house. The land where the factory was located was also in very bad shape. Rensmee said they kept it that way on purpose, so as not to attract attention, but the inside was really nice.

Since the doorbell was half destroyed, Dr. Cullen had to knock several times, but the only presence that could be heard coming from inside was that of a dog barking furiously.

"Scabies!"

Hearing Renesmee's little voice, the old dog changed tone.

"I don't think they're home, Dr. Cullen," Irina said.

Carlisle was distracted, looking for a way in. It wasn't worthy of him, he knew it well, but he wanted to understand what kind of clan were. The granddaughter understood what he wanted to do...

"It's not a good thing, grandpa."

"Yes, I know, my darling."

"But you'll do it the same, right?"

Carlisle smiled sweetly, picked up the little girl and jumped onto the roof of the building. Irina did the same.

Several skylights towered above and overlooked the open space, the bedrooms and bathrooms. The vampire noticed that the roof was in the same condition as the outside walls, but the glass of the skylights was clean.

On the north side of the building was a garden well hidden by the walls of the building. Compared to the rest of the house it was well kept. The plants were distributed vertically on the walls and covered for the winter frost. The vases were made of plexiglass hydraulic pipes with a nice shade of red that contrasted sharply with the green of the plants. The furniture was made of pallets and industrial reels. These too were covered like the plants.

"Annie calls it the secret garden," said the little girl.

A large glass wall separated the outside from the inside. Carlisle easily opened the glass door.

"Aren't they afraid that someone might come in?" Irina asked, puzzled.

"The walls that hide the garden are too high to climb over, and the external structure is poorly maintained to make it seem like there's no one inside. Not to mention that no one would think that there are two hidden entrances. The old, battered front door is just a decoy," the little girl replied.

"But a nomadic vampire could come in," Irina pressed.

"It happened. They took them in and fed them. But it's strange, there's always someone in the house… no, they can't have left without saying goodbye me."

Renesmee began to cry and both Dr. Cullen and Irina tried to comfort the little girl.

"Maybe it's not like that, maybe they just went out and will come back soon…", Irina said.

"Yes, they wouldn't have left Scabies only", Renesmee replied.

When they entered, their sense of smell was tickled by different smells: not only of the 'new' ones. The room smelled clean, warm bread and freshly baked pastries. Scabies jumped on the little girl who returned the welcome with equal joy.

Renesmee took off her shoes.

"They do it like the Japanese so the floor is preserved better and gets less dirty".

The floor was made of concrete and several faded stains of color decorated it and also showed the first use of the building.

To the right of the window was the kitchen. The furniture was made from old iron furniture from the printing house. The shelves were topped with light wood strips. On the free wall near the glass door, there were several wooden wine crates, which served as a bookcase. The only old 'thing' in the room was a beautiful piece of furniture from the 1800s that almost certainly came from a butcher's shop and was used as a cutting board. Other vintage objects decorated that part of the house: several coffee grinders, a Japanese manual ice crusher and an English manual slicer... The hob was modern and seemed to have come from a professional kitchen, as were the double sinks and the microwave oven. The vampire approached the refrigerators. One had a transparent door and the man noticed that 'normal' foods were stored inside; the other was made of steel. When he opened it he found some hospital containers: they contained blood.

Irina was shocked. Carlisle, on the other hand, smiling.

The kitchen opened directly onto the dining room and the living area. These three rooms were part of a single large open space that was very bright thanks to the enormous window and the various skylights on the roof. The high ceilings had allowed for the creation of a mezzanine area. The structure was made of iron and the space was used as a library. The old wooden pharmacy cabinet fit in nicely with the metal structure.

The living area was furnished with various seats. The two most important ones had been made from old wooden and wrought iron benches and completed with thin mattresses and cushions of different colors, but everything was perfectly balanced. In the middle, a wooden top and four industrial trolley wheel served as a coffee table. While tires were scattered here and there, which, once rearranged, had become designer poufs. Even the light points in the house had been created with recycled material: the floor lamps had been made from old hairdresser's helmets.

The chairs around the dining table that belonged to the building were made of walnut wood, but each one had a different shape and color. On the table top there was a very particular lens, a sheet of metal and an old notebook with a black cover.

The whole environment was harmonious and full of personality. The recycled material integrated perfectly with the few ancient elements.

-Esme will go crazy for all this- thought Carlisle.

Doctor Cullen went up the stairs to reach the library. The bookcase was well stocked: art, fiction... he noticed many volumes in the original language.

-They are cultured and cosmopolitan, very good- thought the man

He was about to reach the sleeping area, when they heard a noise. One of them was entering.

A blond boy with blue eyes and delicate features made his appearance: Mike ex Newton. He stopped for a moment and breathed deeply, he smelled a familiar smell...

"This is home invasion Dr. Cullen".

oOo

Aro was thinking of a way to have most of the vampires, friends of the Cullens, in his guard. Marcus had reported everything he had been able to perceive from the Cullens' witnesses. The lord of the Italian coven had been impressed by the shapeshifting she-wolf. The only one of her kind. The only one, rarer even than Renesmee. He knew that Marcus had been somehow fascinated by that creature, he said there was something special, but he couldn't quite figure out what. One thing he was sure of, whatever his brother had perceived in the female wolf, had moved him so much that the venom had reached his tear ducts. Marcus' eyes were shining. He had to have her.

-How can I catch a female wolf- he thought.

"Master?"

"Yes Alec?", Aro answered distractedly.

"During our meeting with the Cullens… well I saw something strange"

"Strange you said!", Aro said carefully.

"Yes there were other people, maybe other vampires, but I'm not sure. Their eyes were different, they were human. They saw our meeting with the Carlisle clan… Wait master there was also a vegetarian vampire, like the Cullens and the Denali.

"Interesting". Aro approached the boy and took his hand. He carefully scanned Alec's memory.

"Very interesting… Didyme?"

At that name Marcus jumped.

"Mmmmm! Now I understand why you returned back Alec. You did well. But I can't understand why Edward and Emmett started chasing those people. Mmmmm! Demetri I have a task for you".

I chose Mike Newton… because that he reminds me of Marcus. Alec didn't see Irina.
