Sorry, the fanfiction is not called Midnight Sun (chapter 10), but First Light - An Unauthorized Sequel to the Twilight Saga and First Light - Rising Sun by Jean Rush. There are two of them. Has anyone heard of these two stories? Is there a way to contact the author? Thanks
Chapter 11: The Secrets of the Forest
The Cullens and Denalis searched the entire forest. Inside they found several small wooden house used in the early 1900s as hunting shelters and now used by tourists and residents who enjoy outdoor activities. They were about to reach the edge of the forest when Garrett spotted a rather large structure.
"Let's hope that's the Carlisle building, we're almost at the end of this damned forest and so far nothing. It's very likely that the woman lied, after all she is Aro's sister."
The building in question was a former sawmill, one of the first. It also opened in the early 1900s and closed around the end of the 1930s. Although it had been abandoned for some time, it was, like the former printing house, a solid structure, capable of withstanding any weather. The complex was very large, too large for the era in which it was built. According to some local legends, the owner wanted to become the king of the lumber market in the entire state and perhaps in the entire American.
When they reached the spot they began to look around. They perceived different smells: that of the people they were looking for, but also something else, because they felt a foul stench. It was a mix of sewage, rotten blood and rotting corpse. The door of the building was broken down.
As soon as they entered they saw a terrifying sight. Lying on the floor was a hideous creature. It was not clear what it was, it had scales and fur, long and triple fangs, several eye openings. It was a four-legged beast, but in some parts of the body there were claws and in some places even fingers, if you could call them that. Not to mention the size: 5 times larger than an adult werewolf. That nauseating smell came from that thing.
Emmett was not easily impressed, but that monster had made him feel uncomfortable.
"Carlisle, I fear it is one of that mad scientist's experiments," Eleazar said.
"Is it one of the monsters described in the diary?" Emmett asked.
"Yes, thank goodness she is dead. We must be even more careful."
The creature was pierced through and through by a heavy metal rod.
They continued walking, until they came across another even more disgusting monster. Like the other creature it had several eyes, but they were all of different sizes and the mouth was so large it resembled a cut. It had no hair or scales. The skin was granite like that of vampires, but transparent, the insides could be seen. This one was also deceased. They saw other monstrous creatures more or less large and all dead.
"How many more obscenities will we find? I hope they're all dead."
"Hey Emmett, that's the first time you don't want to fight," Jasper said, amused.
"It's just generosity, my brother, I'll gladly leave them to you."
"This place is very big, maybe we should split up," Eleazar said.
They split into two groups: Jasper, Emmett, Edward, and Bella went to check the West side of the building, while Carlisle, Garrett, Eleazar, and Kate went to the East.
Both groups found more of the now harmless foul creatures, until Carlisle and his heard a dull noise coming from one of the side rooms. When they entered, they saw a gigantic, abnormal thing, a sort of worm-like creature. It was suffocating one of the hybrids: Mike.
The slimy 'tentacles' of the monster were stretching out beyond measure. The thing stuck out its tongue and started to drool. Newton was its meal. In a sudden rage the vampires threw themselves against the monster, but the boy was faster. Thanks to 'telekinesis' he managed to move a blade of the sawmill and cut the tentacles clean off. The creature was writhing in pain and the three vampires took advantage of this to kill it.
Mike was on his knees, holding his head in his hands. He didn't say anything, but he was in a lot of pain. Some of they could use some psionic abilities, but the pain that came after was excruciating. Doctor Cullen noticed blood-red streaks on his cheeks.
"He has internal bleeding, help me we have to get him out of here".
They were about to pick him up when the boy stopped them.
"I don't need your help doctor".
"Mike please don't be so stubborn, I'm not your enemy. None of us are". Carlisle was very worried about him and the other hybrids. After the monsters he had seen he wanted to do several tests.
Mike spat out a lump of blood and repeated that he didn't need help. He stood up, staggering slightly, and left the room, followed by the others.
More foul things tried to kill them for feed themselves, but were stopped by Mike. The boy was visibly tired.
"Mike, please, you're sick and you're asking too much of yourself. You need to rest and get me a check-up."
"A check-up here, doctor?" the hybrid's tone was ironic.
"You're stubborn, boy," Kate said.
Carlisle was about to argue when they heard a soft breathing and a heartbeat similar to Renesmee's inside one of the rooms.
When they entered they found themselves in front of a girl of about 10 years old. She had long black hair, like her eyes. The typical vampire skin. Her scent reminded of acacia honey. She was surrounded by many small insects.
Doctor Cullen and Eleazar looked at the little girl carefully, she had a familiar face. Especially the latter seemed very interested. The vampire was able to locate humans and others of his kind, gifted with special qualities. When he was still in the service of the Volturi, Aro used the power of the vampire to find people or vampires with special gifts, so he could add them to his ranks.
"Little, Carlisle, can communicate telepathically with insects. I fear she is another hybrid."
Dr. Cullen didn't answer. He simply stared at his friend with an expression of amazement and concern. Maybe she was like the other hybrids, or at least he hoped so. There was certainly nothing monstrous about her, in fact she was a child of extraordinary beauty.
Mike approached.
"Hello, I'm experiment #2357, and you?" Mike asked.
"Experiment #5010. Were you created by the doctor?"
"Yes, miss, him," Mike replied. "When did he create you?"
"Last year," the little girl replied.
"You grew up fast, even faster than me. What genes did he use?"
"Vampire, common werewolf, and various insects," the little girl said.
"He never disappoints. The next one hybrid might have plant genes in its DNA. Do you know who your parents are?"
"He once let slip two names: Felix and Sabrina."
"What?" Mike and Carlisle said in unison.
Doctor Cullen looked at Mike. The boy didn't feel like answering.
"Mike!" Dr. Carlisle urged.
"Last year Sabrina disappeared for a few months. We were on the trail of our creator. We looked for her. Eventually she came back with no memory of anything and now I know why."
Carlisle looked closely at the little girl's face. The resemblance to Felix was undeniable, but she had Sabrina's expressions… his daughter's.
"Congratulations, Grandpa. Now you have another granddaughter," Kate said, amused.
Dr. Cullen smiled softly.
"5010, do you know where our creator went?" Mike asked.
"No, he ran away. He's mad at me."
"Damn, he sensed Jake," Mike said angrily, "Why is he mad at you?" The boy continued.
"He was going to take me away with him, but he hurt me and the bugs attacked him. They didn't hurt him, but he still got mad. He said my power was ridiculous and that I was useless." She burst into tears.
"You're not useless, honey, and your power is amazing. No vampire or werewolf is like you. Don't ever forget that. Now, little one, you have a dislocated shoulder, I can fix the bone, but it'll hurt a little. Since you communicate with them telepathically, you have to tell your friends not to intervene if they feel you're in a little pain." Mike said.
The bugs began to swarm. Mike took hold of the spot where her shoulder blade was.
"I count to three… one, two, done. Don't make any sudden movements, the pain will go away sooner," Mike said.
"Thank you," the little girl said.
Mike was helping the little girl up when Carlisle noticed something wrong with his movements of the lad.
"Mike, you're about to have a epileptic seizure."
"I'm fine, doc…"
The boy's eyes rolled back and he fell backwards in convulsions. Doctor Cullen caught the boy just in time and laid him on the floor. The other group entered the room. They still hadn't found the girls.
"Edward, you have to take him to Port Angeles, I'll be there as soon as I can."
Edward scooped up the still-spasming hybrid's body and walked out of the building. Carlisle turned and looked at the girl. She didn't seem surprised or scared.
"Are you a doctor?" she asked
"Yes," Carlisle replied
"Is it like the doctor who created me?" the girl continued.
"No, I try to save other people's lives, like Mike's."
"Are you talking about experiment #2357?"
Carlisle smiled softly. The monster had given a serial number to identify his creatures. To him they were just objects.
"You don't have to worry, it happens to me often too, but then it passes."
Doctor Cullen smiled slightly and covered the girl with his jacket.
"Thanks, but I don't need it. I'm insensitive to heat and cold."
"We are looking for four more people. Two are like you, can you sense them?" Carlisle asked.
"I don't know how to do it, I only communicate with insects, but I can ask them to look for them for your sir," the little girl replied.
"Ok little girl, ask them."
In a short time the room filled with small creatures: Orthoptera in the juvenile stage, butterflies of the Vanessa Atalanta species…
"Aren't they hibernating? It's the middle of winter," Emmett said.
"Emmett, most of the insects die in this season, but some survive and go into diapause, not hibernation. They're probably active because of the girl," Jasper said.
The girl gave precise orders to the little creatures and they slipped into every crack in the building. After about ten minutes, some Orthoptera returned.
"They found them, but you can't get there from the inside, you have to go outside. The room in question can only be reached from the outside of the building."
"Did they tell you all this?" Emmett said in disbelief.
"Yes sir, insects are very intelligent."
"Sir! It's a little too for him, baby."
"Careful Jasper, don't provoke me."
The group walked out of the building until they found the room in question. The lock on the door was off. When they entered they saw Annie and Sabrina next to two convulsing bodies: Leah and Seth. Sabrina was staring at Carlisle and he did the same. Only now did he realize the resemblance between her and Esme, only now did he see the expressions on her face, they were his too. From him she had also gotten her height: 6 feet. The doctor remembered the moment he saw the girl for the first time in the hospital. She tended to lower her knees slightly. She was ashamed of her height. He smiled thinking back to that day. He saw that his daughter blushed a little. He understood that she had just read his mind.
"Dr. Cullen," his daughter said, "He used his own venom mixed with that of a common werewolf. Luckily he only used those and not other genes. He must take them away like he did with Mike. They are already changing."
Carlisle looked at Seth and Leah in terror. The vampire venom was deadly to shapeshifters like them. Suddenly some stones began to float slightly, while Leah's body vanished for a few seconds, then reappeared.
"Most likely they had some latent gifts and with the change they are coming out," Sabrina continued, "Even their smell is different."
Emmett and Jasper took the shifters. They were smiling. Seth now smelled like freshly baked bread and no longer like wet dog. Leah's scent was like sweet vanilla mixed with spicier ginger. Leah had the nicest smell of the shifters before her new transformation. She smelled like the fall season. When they were gone, Carlisle turned directly to his daughter.
"Because you never told me anything Sabrina. Because you didn't want me to know I was your father!"
"It seems simple to you doctor… Hi, I'm your daughter and I'm also a monster! And then there's not only me".
"Are you referring to the rest of your family?".
"Yes", replied the girl.
Carlisle approached his daughter. He was holding the hand of the girl he met before. Sabrina and Annie looked at her.
"Hi, I'm experiment n..."
"Sabrina, her name is Sabrina, and she's Annie. You're not numbers, and much less monsters… we'll find a name for you too."
Sabrina and Felix's daughter has looks like a very young Jennifer Connelly. While Jake has looks like a very young David Mazouz.
A special thanks to who continues to follow the story, to who put it among the favorites and to the reviewers.
