Hello, everyone! Thanks for reading! I hope you're enjoying it!

Chapter 23 was a hard one to write, I didn't want to separate Link and Sally, I promise! XD That's just what came to mind, what can I say? Have to add drama! :P What'll happen next? Read on to find out!

Here's Chapter 24!

Chapter 24: Time Apart?

I felt like I had to force my feet to move when walking home. I yearned to just run over to Sally and hold her in my arms, to tell her that "everything's going to be okay..." but I couldn't. I can't intrude and disrespect Curtis and his family; that would only make matters worse.

That night I felt so confused and alone. I took off my boots and my clothes and got ready to sleep, but I couldn't...thoughts kept on swimming in my mind. Why did Curtis react so drastically? It's not like Sally and I were doing anything more than kissing and hand-holding! I mean, I just don't get it...Something tells me there's more to this story. I eventually did fall asleep, and I had the craziest dream...I was in Hyrule Castle. The royal family was having a ball to celebrate Hyrule's 500th anniversary, so the ballroom was decorated beautifully. White satin adorned the ceiling while lilacs placed in tall porcelain pots decorated the corners of the room. People were dancing, all dressed in elegant dresses and suits. I looked down and saw that I myself was in a nice white ruffled shirt and a blue vest with gold trim. My hat was nowhere to be seen, but I had on brown pants and shiny black boots to finish my look. They were all having a good time together, Zelda was even with someone...but I was all alone...I felt so out of place...

And then everyone's attention turned to the staircase. I looked up and saw Sally in a gorgeous silver ball gown. They, as I was, were all in awe of her beauty. She walked slowly down the steps, keeping her head down out of bashfulness. She came over to me and smiled. I held out my hand and she put hers on top. We walked out to the middle of the ballroom and started to dance. The crowd watched us swirl around the room. She put her head on my shoulder and laughed. We stopped spinning for a minute and kissed. This dream seemed so perfect, like nothing bad had happened between us. Oh, how I wish this was reality! Suddenly Midna showed up and got between us. She was in her imp form, floating with her arms crossed and a sly smile on her face. She looked at Sally and then back at me. "OOOO! Who's this?!"

"This is Sally." I said. "My girlfriend."

She slapped me in the face. "Only in your dreams!" She cackled. "Now, wake up, 'Prince Charming!'"

"W-what?" I said with confusion.

"Who is this, Link?" Sally asked, staring at Midna.

"Never seen a Twili imp before?" She grinned. "Man, you've sure been sheltered!"

"Midna, why are you he-"

"Wake up!" She slapped my face again.

"Ouch!" I shouted.

"Why are you hitting him?" Sally questioned timidly.

"Wake up Link!" She slapped me again.

I came out of the dream and saw Midna floating above my face. "GAHHH!" I screamed. "M-m-m-m-Midna?! Is that really you?!"

"No, I'm the postman in disguise!" She smiled. "What do you think?"

I sat up, coming to terms with what is really happening. "Why...why are you here?"

"I know!" She laughed annoyingly. "I was perfectly content with living in the Twilight World, and then the Goddesses summoned me." She laced her hands behind her head and yawned. "They said that you needed my assistance."

"Why didn't they summon you before?!" I said while twitching angrily.

"I don't know, it'd be too convenient for you?" She giggled.

I rolled my eyes. "Enough with the jokes, Midna!"

"Okay! Okay!" She huffed. "So, what do you need help with? As if I didn't already know!" She cackled.

"Wha-" I attempted to speak.

She covered my mouth. "What? Have you forgotten I can read minds? How do you think I ruined your dream? Hmmmm?"

"QUIT DOING THAT!" I shouted. "YOU KNOW IT CREEPS ME OUT WHEN YOU DO THAT!"

"So, where's Sally?" She smiled.

"Don't change the subject!" I countered.

"What?" She threw her hands up in jest. "I just want to meet her!"

"WELL, YOU CAN'T!" I continued to yell. "YOU CAN NEVER MEET HER!"

"Geez, what's the deal?" She laughed. "You're acting like someone ruined your birthday party or something!" I didn't say anything, I only looked down at the blankets covering me. Now she was concerned. "Wh-what's wrong?"

"I'm never allowed to see her again..." I whispered.

"Oh..." She frowned. "...Seems like you really like her..."

"I do...a lot..." I clenched my fists that were holding on to my blanket. "...We were dating...and her father found out...and told us both that we aren't allowed to have any contact..."

"Pfft, please!" She blew it off. "Like the Hero always has to follow the rules! Go find her!"

"It's not that easy." I said. "Her father is Curtis, a man I used to go on missions with. I can't go behind his back and go against his word."

She moaned. "Well, that puts a damper on things..." She scratched her head in thought. "Aha! I have a plan! You'll just have to see her in secret!"

"Midna, I don't think this is going to work..."

"Nonsense!" She exclaimed. "Now, tell me about this girl!"

"Um...what if I'd rather not?" I blushed. She got in my face. "Okay! Well..."

Sally's POV

I slept fitfully that night. I miss him...so much...I care about him very much...I want to kiss him and let him hold me so badly! I wish there was some way that we could still see each other, but I couldn't disobey my father's orders, could I? And if I were to see him again, how would we keep it a secret; especially with his life already being so closely followed by all of Hyrule?

Being lost in thought, I had nearly forgotten that today was one of the Audition days for Les Miserables. At least that's something to look forward to... I recieved permission from Papa to go to the auditions, on the condition that Eleanor comes with me, that way there's no risk of seeing or talking to Link. We rode our horses to Castle Town and walked to the theatre in silence. We sat down and waited for auditions to begin, since we were early. Eleanor looked around and then spoke to me. "Who are you trying out for again?"

"C-Cosette." I mumbled, recalling part of the conversation I had with Link.

"Thanks for practicing with me." I hugged him tightly.

He beamed. "You're welcome." He then took hold of my hand nearest to him. "I think you'll make a wonderful Cosette." And kissed me on the cheek.

"Thanks, Link." I blushed, taking his hand and placing it on my cheek.

"You look like something's bothering you..." She smiled slightly. "I wonder what it is?" She looked around for a second. "...Don't be sad! It's a waste of time!" She laughed. "Speaking of a waste of time..." She spoke again. "...It's nice that you and Sir Link aren't spending time together anymore. He deserves a woman, not a little girl like you." I felt tears begin to well up in my eyes, but I shook them off. "It's for the best, anyway. It never would have worked between the two of you."

"You're just saying that because you're jealous of the relationship we have." I said flatly.

"Oh, please! What relationship?" She giggled. "Did you honestly think it could have worked out between the two of you? He's the Hero, he has high-standards! He probably pitied you, and if you would have stayed with him the next pretty face would have caught his eye and he would have left you!"

"Link's not like that!" I muttered angrily. God, I wanted to throw her pretty little a** into a sewer!

"Really? What makes you think so?" She taunted.

I was ready to yell, but then Mr. Cathbird came into the room. "Alright, everyone! It is time to hold our first day of Auditions for Les Miserables! Let's pick Cosette first, shall we?" He cleared his throat. "Everyone who would like to audition for Cosette, please come up to the stage."

I stood up and walked up to the stage to stand by Mr. Cathbird. Joining me were Martha and a few other girls. Of course she wants the part of Cosette! Martha hummed with delight. "Why, Sally...I do not see Sir Link. Surely he isn't planning on missing your rehearsal? Oh! Silly me! I nearly forgot! Word's already gone through town that you two aren't allowed to see each other anymore! You poor thing! I pity you! Maybe he might like a lady like me?" She smiled devilishly. I didn't say a word.

"Since Sally came up here first, I'll have her audition first." Mr. Cathbird said while standing by the piano. He sat down and began to play "In My Life." I started to sing along, trying my best to focus on my audition in hopes of getting the part of Cosette.

Not soon after I began singing we were interrupted by a huge cloud of smoke slightly above our heads. The smoke revealed a monster, a female imp with turquoise and black skin and red hair. She had the wickedest of smiles, and a stone crown of some sort adorned the top of her head. Everyone in the theatre started screaming while she floated above us all, staring at us like we were inferior. "Wow, what a welcome!" She said with sarcasm. Everyone gasped. "What? Just thought I'd have a little fun! Eeeheehee!" She floated downward and got in my face. "What a lovely voice you have! What is your name?"

"S-S-S-Sally..." I stuttered.

She grabbed me by the collar and brought me closer to her. "Listen to me, Sally." She uttered in my ear. "If you want to live, meet me in Castle Town at midnight tonight! I have a favor to ask of you!" I didn't say anything. "You understand?!" She hissed.

"Y-yes!" I cried fearfully.

She let go of my collar. "Anyone else want to mess with me?!" We all shook our heads. "Good, then I will leave!" She disappeared into another puff of smoke and was gone.

The rest of auditions were uneventful, but the whole time I was scared to death of that imp! Was she going to kill me for her enjoyment?! I wish I had Link by my side to help me...

Auditions were later finished and I got picked for the part of Cosette. I was happy, don't get me wrong, but I was just so unsure of whether I was going to still be alive by then or not...I didn't dare tell Eleanor or anyone else about what the imp said to me, I just said that she didn't like me and was threatening me.

We returned home and that night I went to bed at around 9pm. Everyone else was fast asleep by 9:30, and at 10 I left for Castle Town, to either return again or perish. I rode my horse to Castle Town, the whole time feeling uneasy, almost even kind of queasy. Good thing I brought my bow just in case! I came face to face with her at the entrance to Castle Town, her grin so menacing it made me want to hurl. I took out my bow and prepared to defend myself. holding it and an arrow to her.

"Do you really think I'm going to kill you?" She inquired.

"Yes." I lowered my weapon slightly. "Are you telling me I'm wrong?"

"Yes." She echoed. "I don't plan on killing you." She beamed. "I simply needed something that would get you here!"

"But why do you want me here, imp?" I looked at her with bewilderment.

"Please, call me by my name. I'm Midna." She huffed. "I HATE being called an imp!"

"Okay, Midna..." I sighed. "...Why do you want me here?"

"Geez!" She moaned, taking my hand. "Just come with me!"

"O...kay?" I said loudly as she dragged me into town. For a pint-sized floating monster, she's sure strong!

Link's POV

I looked in Telma's Bar, the hospital, literally everywhere for Midna! AAAHHH! I hate it when she playes this game of "hide and seek!" I grunted. "Midna?" I called out quietly, growing angry. "Midna! Where are you?!"I came out into the main square and saw that the band was still playing. Strange...They began to play a song called "Goodbye in Her Eyes." (Note: Song is by the Zac Brown Band. Love it! :D) I sat down at the fountain and listened while waiting to see if Midna would show up. Two hours ago she just left...she didn't tell me where she was going, what she was doing, nothing! Earlier in the day she left too, but only for a little while. What is she up to?! The band neared the end of the song and I called out for Midna again, seeing nothing. I looked down at my feet and then stood up. I can't tell you what motivated me to stand, but I did. I turned around and looked towards the east road and saw something I thought I'd never see. It was Sally! I rubbed my eyes, thinking that I was seeing things, but then the mirage called my name! "Sally?" I answered.

She started running towards me, and I ran towards her. We met halfway and she hugged me, tears running down her cheeks. "I missed you so much!" She cried.

"I missed you too." I muffled into her shoulder. We were both overwhelmed, and got down on our knees while we hugged. I looked over Sally's shoulder and saw Midna sticking her tongue out at me. "Thank you." I mouthed. She gave me thumbs up.

We stopped hugging, but remained kneeling and talking to one another.

"I know my father doesn't accept it, but I don't want to never see you again...it would break my heart." She said sadly.

"Same here..." I said to her, kissing her on the lips. "...I've never been happier in my entire life, and I have you to thank for that, Sally."

Tears began to fall from her eyes again. "Not again!" She put her hand up to wipe them away, but I took hold of her hand and took off my hat with the other and wiped away her tears. We both laughed and embraced. I don't want to disrespect Curtis, but he's making a mistake in trying to separate us...I firmly believe that!
