After a quick stop at the local electronics shop and the next-door convenience store, we had everything we needed for movie night, including a TV and laptop rental.
While Uncle Bucky adjusted our beds and blankets to make a suitable nest for watching, I worked on setting up the movies. Using a hotspot from my phone on the laptop, I scoured the internet for the two movies, then used an hdmi cord to connect to the tv. It was a bit of an older screen, so I couldn't access the internet directly on it, or I could have saved myself a few extra steps.
When the movie popped up on the tv screen, Uncle Bucky looked at me in shock, shaking his head, "Technology today is unbelievable…"
I just grinned and tossed the popcorn at him, "Is the microwave too modern for you? Or can you figure it out?"
He chuckled, "I can handle the microwave, just fine, Sunshine." And he went off to the kitchen, where we had placed the microwave. That, we couldn't rent, so I had just purchased it outright and planned to leave it here in case of any other future visits. While I was usually hesitant to use the card Tony gave me, it helped a bit knowing I was helping support one of the local small businesses.
Once we each had a bowl of popcorn, we settled into the blankets. Uncle Bucky put his arm over my shoulder and I snuggled against him as I pressed play on his move: Mr. Smith goes to Washington.
I laughed to myself hearing Uncle Bucky reciting along with the actors. I looked up at him, "How many times have you watched this?"
He shrugged, "Too many to count… but I haven't watched it since before I went to war… it's nice to see it again."
I smiled, leaning my head back against him and returning my attention to the screen.
When the movie ended, I got up to put mine on, and Uncle Bucky replenished our popcorn. I also used the opportunity to do one of my regular pink-button presses.
As the opening credits began to play, he looked at me in suspicion, "What exactly are you making me watch?"
I grinned, "The Princess Diaries."
"A Princess movie? Oh god, what have I signed up for."
I bumped his shoulder, "Oh, just watch. It's impossible not to like. It's a CLASSIC. Besides, it's Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews, they're the best."
"Neither of those names mean anything to me."
I paused the movie, turning to him with a dramatic gasp, "OMG. We really need to get you up-to-speed. Many more movie nights in our future, that's for sure!"
He chuckled, "I think I can live with that."
I shushed him and turned the movie back on. At the end, I turned to him, "So?"
He shrugged, "It was fine."
I narrowed my eyes at him and he put his hands up in defense, "Okay, okay, it was good! I enjoyed it! Happy now, Sunshine?"
I nodded happily. "Yep."
He rolled his eyes in amusement then checked his watch. "Geez! Okay, bedtime!"
"Alright, alright."
He fixed the beds while I brushed my teeth and changed into pajamas. Then while he did the same, I tidied up the popcorn bowls and candy wrappers.
He came back out, and we got into our respective beds. Before fully settling down, I turned to face him, "Uncle Bucky?"
"Yeah?"
"Do you think you'll have nightmares tonight?"
Silence. A sigh, "I don't know."
"Okay. Well, I'm here if you do."
I could hear his smile when he responded, "I know."
I smiled too, and my words came out mixed with a yawn as I said, "Goodnight, Uncle Bucky."
"Goodnight, Sunshine."
