Dodgebrawl

POV. Third person

We see Chris standing on the dock of shame, "Last time on Total Drama Island, the Screaming Gophers kicked-butt in the Awake-a-Thon, when Duncan took a snooze on the can." We see Duncan sleeping in the toilet with his pants down, "the Killer Bass took their second loss in a row, harsh. Heather orchestrated the first Total Drama alliance, but had to change plans when she was discovered," we see both Heather and Lindsay surprised when they see Cody, "then pocketed Eva's MP3 player and sat back to watch the fireworks", we see Eva destroying the Bass' cabin, "nicely played Heather, nicely played. Even though Eve could have pretty much kicked the butt of anyone here, in the end, it was her temper that got her kicked off" we see Eva on the Boat of Losers, "She became the second camper to rock the Boat of Losers. Who will break the rules of their new alliance? Will Heather take revenge on Cody for their photo? Will he and Gwen be able to stay awake until the end of the episode? And who will take the next humiliating walk down the dock of shame? Stay tuned for the most dramatic campfire ceremony yet on TOTAL… DRAMA… ISLAND!"

POV. Cody

I was running in a school hallway, I was late for detention. I finally saw the classroom and I entered, slamming the door ajar.

"Gasp, gasp, sorry I'm late" I said, sweating and gasping for air.

Chef Hatchet in a suit and tie looked at me angrily, "It's about time, go and sit with the rest". There was also the zebra with an English accent, Mr. Coconut, a normal size Owenzilla and Robot Alejandro.

"Hey Cody, can you pass me a pencil?" Owenzilla, the fake dinosaur asked me.

"Sure, here you go" I lent him a pencil.

"Thanks" He bit into it, "oh, graphite tastes so good".

"SHUT UP!" yelled Chef, "Very good maggots, you five are here because you blew up the chemistry lab", he pointed outside and on the other side of the hallway there was a destroyed classroom, where it looked like it was bombarded, "as punishment you'll have to draw an exact copy of this" he took out a Chris' immunity statue from season four, "whoever fails to do it correctly will be sent to the Pit" he finished his sentence with a sinister voice. For some reason everybody else shuddered, "you have five minutes, BEGIN!"

We all started drawing fast. Five minutes passed and Chef came by snatching our papers, "Bad, terrible, and this is a burger!" said Chef looking at Owenzilla, who shrinked in his seat, "everyone failed, to the Pit with you!"

The ground opened up and we fell into the void, "AHHHHHH! Ouch!", I woke up hitting the hard cabin floor, I looked around to check that everything was a dream.

"Dude, are you okay? That was a big hit" Trent asked me from his bed, the rest were also waking up.

"Yeah, I'm ok, I just had a weird dream" I said confused, it was the second time it happened, I hope it's nothing important, "I'm sorry for waking you up, guys".

"It's alright, we have to get up for breakfast anyways" said Noah sadly, "Are you going to be okay after just one night of sleep?" he asked me.

I got up and did some stretches to check it out. I was still tired, but it was nothing that I hadn't felt before after days at work, I just had to avoid overexerting myself and I would be fine, "Go ahead, I'll catch you later".

They went to the main lodge, I got in my backpack and took out some energy bars that I brought with me to the camp, specifically, for after the Awake-A-Thon. A little later, I leave the cabin and saw Gwen going to the main lodge, "Hey Gwen"

She turned around tiredly and yawned, "Hi Cody".

"Here you go, this should help you to get through the day" I said, giving her some of my energy bars.

She opened one and tasted it, "Gross, I hate oatmeal" she kept eating despite that. "Thanks, that's the second time you've done something for me," she said while we walked towards the lodge.

"Well, some already told me that I can be too nice… and that it could get me into some trouble in the future".

"Well, whoever said it is a pretty wise person. Don't let others take advantage of you", if you knew that you just called Heather wise, you would probably want to tear out your tongue.

"I'll try".

We walked in silence the rest of the way, until Chris announced our arrival to the lodge, "Hey everyone, it's Cody and Gwen".

Our team praised our arrival while the Bass looked depressed.

I sat right next to Heather, who seemed a little upset, "I will forgive you for the photo just because you won the challenge, but another trick like that one and I'll make your life at this camp a living nightmare, understood?"

Oh, so that's why she's like that. I should keep my head down around her from now on, "If you are that upset about being asleep in the photo, we can always take another one." But, on the other hand, I was one of the few people who didn't fear Heather, and at this point, I was too tired to care about what she might do to me. She stepped on my foot for what I said, "Ouch!" It didn't hurt to be honest, my shoes were resistant, but it was better to keep up appearances.

Confessional.

Courtney

"We're so stinking right now. Okay yes, Eva was a psycho, but at least she was an athletic psycho!"

End of confessional.

"So, let's get over the rules one more time" said Heather after making sure that no one was hearing her, because of our deal just some of the rules applied to me, this was more for Lindsay and Beth, "number one, I am the captain of this alliance so I get to make the rules, number two…".

"Breaking the rules can result in getting kicked out of the alliance?" guessed Lindsay.

"Good, number three, I can borrow any of your stuff without asking, but my stuff is strictly off-".

"Ehem" I caught her attention at that moment, she just looked straight at me waiting for me to budge, but I just looked at her without flinching.

"Alright, if it's something old or that doesn't combine with me, I can consider the idea of giving it to you, happy?" she said that last part looking directly at me.

Lindsay and Beth nodded, satisfied with the deal.

Before Heather decided to mock the Bass, I asked her about the campfire ceremony and even though she was angry at me, she told me what happened. It seems that nothing changed for Eva, maybe because I didn't interfere with her directly. Until now I didn't try to generate a drastic change in events and after Zeke was still eliminated, I was wondering if it was even possible to completely change an event destined to happen. I discreetly looked at Noah, well, time to find out.

"Ok campers, listen up, your next challenge begins in ten minutes. And be prepared to bring it".

-0-

Chris took us to the beach where they had built the dodgeball playing field.

While Duncan rested on the benches and threatened his team if they woke him up, he proceeded to tell us the rules "The first rule about dodgeball is…."

"Do not talk about dodgeball?" mocked Noah.

"As I was saying, if you get hit with the ball..." he said, hitting Courtney with a ball.

"¡Ouch!".

"You're out".

"You can't do that" she threw the ball back angrily.

"If you catch the ball" said catching Courtney 's ball shot, "the thrower gets sent out and the catcher gets to bring in another team member out on the court".

"Throwing balls, gee, another mentally challenging test" said Noah sarcastically.

"I know, right?" answered Lindsay innocently, Owen and Noah just looked at each other confused.

"Okay now, Geoff, try to hit me", he passed the ball to the party animal.

"If you're holding a ball you can use it to deflect a ball, but if it knocks the ball out of your hand you're out".

"So, what do I do again when the ball comes at me?" asked Lindsay.

At that moment Geoff threw the ball at Chris who quickly deflected it with another one, "You dodge!".

Before the ball hit Lindsay, I took her by the arm and pulled her out the way. The ball passed right by us and it got embedded in Owen's stomach.

"Hahahaha it tickles", we all gave a step backwards waiting for the ball to bounce back, but to our surprise it stayed there, right in Owen's stomach.

"Hm, weird, I was waiting for-", Chris was stopped when Owen burped and the ball went flying hitting him in the face, knocking him down, "¡Ouch! The face again ¿Seriously?".

Confessional.

Gwen

She was sitting and yawning , "finally, justice was served" said with a tired smile.

Lindsay

"I think Chip didn't get the point of the game either".

Cody

He seemed pensive, "Did I ever tell Lindsay Chris' name when we were exercising?" he thought about it for another moment, then just shrugged it off.

Tyler

"I know that I said that Lindsay may not like Cody, but can it be... that Cody likes Lindsay?" he asked worriedly, "I have to show that I'm better than him, fortunately I can show her my skills in this game" he said laying down the toilet, but he slipped and fell to the ground... again, "¡Ouch! I'm okay".

End of confessional.

Chris got up dizzy, "Gophers, you'll have to sit one person out each game".

...

We grouped together to decide who would stay off the field, "Okay, we can't get lazy, the Killer Bass are gonna be trying extra hard to catch up, who wants to sit the first one out with sleeping beauty here?" said Heather pointing to Gwen who was still yawning, "Cody?" she asked me, since I was technically the second most tired player.

I yawned a little, "Don't you worry, I can play for a bit" I said, Noah then decided to take the opportunity.

"Alright, I'll volunteer, now let's see all you keeners get on out there and dodge!" he said to us.

While Heather chose the first five players, I approached Noah who despite his words he was going to begin reading, "Hey Noah, I think I have that mental challenge that you were looking for".

"I'm listening," he responded skeptically..

"I want you to look at the game and try to predict who from our team the Bass will try to eliminate".

"Pff, that's easy, it barely represents a challenge".

"Really? And, how about this?, if you get it wrong three times you'll have to eat Chef's food for the entire week".

He shuddered at this, "And, what if I win?" I showed him some of my energy bars

"Real food".

He considered it for a while, "Alright" he said, closing his book, "in the campfire you told me to use my brain in physical challenges, I assume this is what you were referring to?".

Confessional.

Noah

"I don't trust my physical capacity, but I can brag about my mental ability" then he got serious, "however, I wonder what Coddy is plotting, I don't think he simply wants me to sit and play this guessing game all day".

End of confessional.

-0-

On Bass' side, Courtney, Katie, Dj, Tyler and Harold, were the ones chosen in the first round. On our side were LeShawna, Heather, Lindsay, Owen and me.

"Bring it on fishies, otherwise winning three in a row just won't be as satisfying" said Heather provoking the Bass, what is it with people jinxing it for their team? But I can't blame her, I didn't doubt that we would be victorious and certainly that was the case for the majority of the challenge, who knew that Harold of all people would decide everything?.

"Oh, you're going down, we'll bring the dinner to the table and then we're gonna eat it", his teammates looked disappointed by Tyler's commentary.

"Both teams ready? Best of five games wins, Now let's dodge some balls!".

Chef blew the whistle and both teams cheered, Noah included.

The first time I began the game, "Ahhhhh!", but this time, it was Tyler and he was aiming towards… me?

He threw the ball, but instead of hitting me it deviated to the left and went off the field. His team looked down on him for his bad aim, "The sun dazzled me" he said, then took the ball off of Courtney's hands and aimed at me again.

But Owen was already running towards him, ball in hand. He hit him and he was thrown towards the back wall, getting eliminated.

Chef blew the whistle and the girls praised Owen. Meanwhile I was wondering why Tyler went first and aimed at me. Something I've done must have made him react this way, but what? I would have to think about it later, the game was still on course.

After LeShawna eliminated Harold, Lindsay forgetting how to play got hit in the face courtesy of Katie, leaving her first official bruise, while she was leaving the field she handwaved Tyler and then my light bulb turned on.

Tyler was jealous of me. I was a lot closer to Lindsay now and he probably thought that I was trying to woo her, that… didn't really matter that much. We were in the same alliance, so he would see us a lot together, trying to deny it would expose my real relationship with her, I guess I will leave things as they are. If he confronts me I'll just tell him that we are just friends, I hope he doesn't obsess over this.

After Heather threw a ball at Tyler's kiwis, the game resumed and continued normally. And like last time it was DJ and Katie against me.

It was time for a very risky maneuver. Instead of throwing first, I waited until Katie threw her ball and I covered with mine. Because of the angle at which it hit me, the ball bounced in a specific direction.

"¡Ouch! My face, my beautiful, beautiful face!" it went directly at Justin's eye.

"I'm sorry", said Katie regretfully.

After really thinking it, Justin was the only one that would abandon the game for something as little as a bruise. He may be also a friend, and one of the members of "The Drama Brothers", but he will be eliminated in the next challenge, besides, his contribution to the team was really little. If he was gone tonight, that would be the best for him, he would have his time to shine during season two, but that didn't make me regret this less. I didn't think we could win the challenge once Duncan woke up. I may have improved my dodgeball skill, but I was still recuperating from the Awake-A-Ton. Besides, my idea is that someone else shines today.

"I need ice!" he said while running towards the camp.

"Where do you think you're going!?" Heather screamed at him.

Confessional.

Heather

"Justin's just eye candy, he'll be most likely useless for the rest of the competition, I think I know who will be the alliance's first objective if we lose".

End of confessional.

I took advantage of Katie's distraction to eliminate her with a normal throw, as for DJ, I eliminated him with the same curved shot of the first time. Ending like that, the first game.

"And the first point goes to the Gophers," Chris announced.

While our team celebrated, I approached Noah who in reality was laughing a lot, "Why are you laughing?"

"Dude, Justin didn't even see it coming".

That was it, I forgot that they didn't like each other very much, "So, did you fail at any moment?" I asked him about our game.

"No, I knew who they were aiming for all the time".

I didn't have a way to see if he was telling the truth, but I just cared that he was focused on the game.

"Good then".

-0-

The second round was about to begin and Heather said to Noah that he was up.

"I'm sorry Heather, but Noah is busy at the moment, he's doing something I asked" I gave her a gesture to indicate that I would explain it to her later, trusting that she was sly enough to notice.

"Yeah, and you guys did such an awesome job in the last game, I don't wanna mess up your mojo" he contributed.

She seemed to take my hint because she didn't think about it too much and then made a gesture to Beth for her to enter the field.

...

During the second game, Tyler hit Lindsay in the face, leaving her another bruise, and after he was ejected the two went for a walk. Heather had been ready to yell at Lindsay, but I stopped her by claiming that the Bass were now without their most unpredictable player and Lindsay didn't know how to play anyway. She tried to object by saying that she could tell him our secrets, but I assured her that Tyler was too dumb to ask and she seemed to agree. So she didn't pursue the topic any further.

At that moment Owen decided to take the game seriously and single-handedly eliminated the entire Bass team... in a very brutal way, too. This time Heather didn't berate Noah.

-0-

While we were taking a break, I watched as the Bass tried to wake Duncan up with a very long stick. The real challenge begins now.

"Get ready, buddy," I told Noah, "because your challenge is about to get tougher."

He widened his eyes, "oh wow."

The third game began, and Duncan was part of the players. Without Justin here I had to go out and play for the Gophers.

The moment the chef blew his whistle, everything went downhill. Izzy and LeShawna threw their balls, but Duncan and Courtney dodged them. Then Katie handed them over and everyone fired at Owen, who was quickly shot down. He was followed by Izzy and Beth, we couldn't seem to counter them.

"LeShawna get down!" Noah shouted from the bleachers.

She heard him and the balls went over her, she quickly grabbed two of the balls and threw them to Duncan and Geoff. Duncan was able to dodge it easily, but Geoff tried to catch it and it slipped out of his hands, eliminating him. LeShawna tried to eliminate Courtney, but failed and they shot at us again.

"Cody to the right!" I heard Noah's voice and jumped to the right before they even finished throwing. The match went on for a while, but we were both eliminated at the end. The Bass celebrated at this.

"Damn, I was sure I was right." Noah looked quite frustrated, he didn't like that so many of his predictions had failed.

"We need a way to counter their strategy, any ideas?" Heather asked.

"Extend the next game," Noah said.

"What?" She asked.

"If you can extend the next match I'm sure I can find a way to counter the Bass' game," he looked very determined when he said this, it seems like watching the match had really gotten him into the game.

"Well, that's the only thing we have, I say we do it," Trent commented.

"If my little buddy says he has a plan then I support him" Owen said.

"Well we'll do that then" Heather decided.

-0-

The fourth game began and just as we planned, instead of focusing on winning we focused on surviving and extending the round, I was not chosen for this match, everyone agreed to let me rest until the last game so I stayed seated next to Noah, who seemed more focused on the game than ever, so I decided to let him concentrate. The game was being quite intense, at some point Tyler and Lindsay returned without anyone noticing them.

"Hello, Linds, you're back pretty soon," I said to her.

"Oh yeah, Tyler said he wanted to see if his team needed him, so we came back. Plus, I wanted to support my team even if I don't know how to play."

"Oh I see" so they were going to come back even if Heather didn't go looking for her, curious.

"Well, someone finally decided to show their face," said Heather, who was coming from the field, rubbing her arm. The fourth game ended with the Bass' victory. "I hope you have a plan, smarty," she said to Noah.

"Oh, yes I have," he replied.

-0-

We gathered in a circle to hear what Noah had planned, "Alright, the strength of Duncan's game is also its weakness as they only target one person at a time. Duncan is their leader so he decides who they attack, if someone can attract their attention then we can control their game".

"And that someone will be..." Gwen asked.

He sighed, "Me, I'll have to play in the last round," he said, already feeling the pain of playing sports.

"Are you sure of this?" I asked him.

"We need someone who looks vulnerable and that Duncan doesn't like, otherwise it won't work," he said, "try to make sure their team doesn't have four balls at any time, now let's play," Noah said.

"Let's go!" we all said.

"You planned this, right?" Noah asked me as the others dispersed.

He was actually very smart, "I thought you might want to play, after seeing how exciting dodgeball is."

He looked at me doubtfully for a long time, "well you were wrong, I'm not excited by the prospect of a ball hitting me in the face, but... it's not like I want to see Duncan win" he finally answered me as he went with the rest of the team.

...

The five chosen from each team were on the playing field, Noah and I were in ours this time.

"Hey delinquent, I bet this game brings back good memories of your time locked up, just without the bars and barbed wire," Noah said to Duncan sarcastically.

"Yes, it does indeed, let me show you how we treated the new ones" he said maliciously.

Then the Bass went after Noah, who surprisingly managed to dodge all of the balls. When it came our turn to throw, we tried to ensure that they never had four balls on hand.

...

The game was halfway over, Noah and myself were quite tired, it seemed that I had finally reached my limit for the day, as for him, just as he said sports were not his thing, however, his look was completely different. to the one from a while ago. The Noah next to me had a look that was more like the one from World Tour and even the one from Ridonculous Race. It seems that something within him managed to awaken during this game. Welcome back friend, you have no idea how much I missed you.

In the end we were both eliminated, but even sitting down, Noah was shouting instructions to our team, as if he were a real coach in a game.

"It's incredible, we've been in this last game for more than an hour and neither team wants to give in," commented Chris, excited about the game that had gone on for quite a while. I can only assume that he's enjoying how we're bombarding each other with balls, "however, this could be decided here."

Despite the drawn out game, this still ended in an Owen versus Harold, I figured there was nothing I could do anymore, Harold won this with pure skill, so there was nothing I could do about it. At least, things could be different this time. I looked at Noah who was sweating and tired, but expectant, like the rest of the team.

Owen began the attack on him and Harold dodged each one of them, impressively, and when there were no more balls to throw, Courtney called a timeout.

"Owen, Harold can't throw a ball, so it's all going to depend on you taking him down with one shot," Noah told our big buddy.

I didn't correct him as I didn't have a better idea, it all depended on whether or not Harold could catch the ball and that was out of my control.

The match resumed and they were both standing on both sides of the field, Owen had the ball in his hand, this would be decided here and now.

Owen ran towards Harold with the ball raised, he just prepared to catch it, I saw in slow motion how the ball flew through the air and hit Harold, who was pushed against the wall by the strong blow, I knew what was coming, I really knew... but when Harold held up the ball confirming that he had caught it, I couldn't help but close my eyes in frustration.

"Damn," Noah said frustrated.

"It's impossible, WHY!?" Owen shouted dramatically on the ground.

"Nice dodge, skater nerd" Duncan said the Bass came out carrying Harold on their shoulders.

"Gophers, what happened?" the presenter asked us mockingly.

"Not now Chris," Noah told him tiredly.

Confessional.

Harold

"I guess I'm kind of a role model now that I won the dodgeball competition," he said while eating some chips, "people will want my autograph when this show is over and stuff."

Noah

"I'm tired, frustrated, and my head hurts from all the balls hitting me, and yet I've never felt so... excited in my entire life. Is this the reason people play sports?"

I was sitting on the dock looking at the lake, I think I saw the seagull from the other day floating in the water. In the end the Bass won like last time, I just hoped I had done enough.

"There you are, we have to discuss who we are going to vote for," Heather told me, arriving with Lindsay and Beth behind her.

"About that..." I didn't want to tell Heather who to vote for, since a favor like that could end up costing me a part of my soul in retribution, but I guess I was already down that path.

"I am the leader and I speak first, we will expel Justin."

I froze at his choice, it couldn't have been that easy, could it? She seemed to misunderstand my surprise, because she ended up explaining her reasoning to me.

"This is a purely strategic choice, Justin may be an adonis, but apart from that, he is not made for a competition like this, he would be better off in a modeling agency, after all I care about my colleagues" if I didn't know you better, I'd probably think you meant it.

I pretended to try to find a reason not to kick him out, but in the end I resigned myself, "I guess we're doing Justin a favor by eliminating him," I said, looking doubtful, on the inside however, I was triumphally happy.

"Well said, see you tonight" and with that the three left.

I laid down on the dock tired but satisfied, I had achieved it, I really changed the vote, and without losing my soul in the process. I closed my eyes, falling asleep without knowing it.

-0-

When I came back to my senses I felt like I was moving, I got up to see that I was on Owen's big back, "Oh you woke up, good morning," the big fella told me.

"It's night Owen," Noah said next to us without looking away from his book, "well now we know you're not dead, when we saw you surrounded by seagulls we assumed the worst," well your attitude certainly doesn't show it.

"Yes, they made a mess of your hair hahahaha."

"What?" I shook my hair and a bunch of feathers fell out, "oh great."

"You should be grateful, they kept the sun from burning you," Noah said mockingly.

"Yes, I'm sure I'll thank you next time I go to the dock...by the way, where are we going?"

"Campfire, it's time to vote."

-0-

Even though Heather told me who the alliance would vote for, I was still quite anxious, but I think that was more due to being at the bonfire for the first time in years. For many, this place at night was always associated with strain.

"Campers, you've already voted and made your decision, one of you is going home and will never be able to come back," even with Chris's words, unlike the Bass, our team looked as indifferent as the last time, "when I mention your names come get your marshmallows, Owen… Gwen… Cody… Trent… Heather… Beth…" she stood up for her marshmallow, "Noah" I breathed a sigh of relief when he said his name. , "LeShawna, Izzy...", in the end only Lindsay and Justin were left, but neither of them seemed nervous. Lindsay got it, but Justin didn't seem surprised either, "What's going on here?", "and finally...Lindsay."

She walked towards us. "Phew, that's a relief" said the supermodel, "it was a pleasure, friends, but I'm leaving this death trap" he walked past us on his way to the pier of shame. We all looked at each other without understanding what was happening. I mean, I know the guy was a narcissist at the beginning of the show, but that much? I guess you never know someone completely.

"I'm glad he's finally gone," Noah said to Owen.

"Yes, a relief, hahahaha" he laughed nervously.

Confessional.

Justin

He still had the black eye, "See this face," he said, smiling at the camera, "it's a face that was easily worth more than a hundred thousand dollars," he said now more exasperated, "Now it's worth much less than that, I can't stay on this island, "Who knows what other things could happen to my beautiful face or worse, to my elbows" he said paranoid.

End of confessional.

"Well, it wasn't the most dramatic ceremony... But they still paid me! And with a bonus!" Chris said to the camera. We all rolled our eyes, "ahem, good night Gophers, sleep well."

-0-

I walked up the stairs ready to go into the cabins for a restful night's sleep, but someone stopped me, "hey Cody, come here for a minute" it was Lindsay.

"What happened?" I asked approaching her.

"Sit here, I'm going to fix your hair," that surprised me.

She made me sit on a log and started removing the feathers that were still in my hair, while also brushing me, "ah... Linds, you don't have to do this you know?"

"I know," she told me, concentrating on what she was doing, "but I want to do it, we are all-... friends after all," she told me happily, she was going to say allies, right? "Besides, I want to thank you for saving me from that first ball."

Confessional.

Lindsay

"Heather is very smart and pretty, so I've wanted to be like her, Cody is also quite smart, but he is much nicer to people, I want to try to be a little like him" she said with admiration.

End of confessional.

"Wow, I forgot about that," I said surprised.

"Well, not me, now don't move until I'm done," wow, it seems like someone has started to mature earlier than expected. I just smiled.

Standing right next to us, unnoticed by either of us for some reason, was Tyler with his mouth open.

Confessional.

Tyler

"It's worse than I imagined, she never asked to play with my hair," he said, scared.

End of confessional.

POV. Third person

Chris was standing next to Tyler, "oh man, that's got to hurt," the host said, "Will Lindsay and Tyler's relationship survive? Or will it fall apart in pursuit of something better?"

"Wait? What?" Tyler asked.

"Will the Gophers be the center of attention now that they have lost their most striking player? Who will win and who will lose the next challenge? Find out next week on TOTAL... DRAMA... ISLAND!"

"Come on dude, what did you mean?" Tyler's voice was heard in the background.
