Chapter five- Right here

All the world is Watching,

All the world does care,

Even when the world weighs on my shoulder now,

These feelings I can bare,

Because I know,

That you're here,

Everywhere I go,

I know your not far away,

You're right here,

You're right here….

-Right here, Jeremy Camp

4 days later- March 13th

Jo smiles as she looks through the window of the daycare to see that Theo was sitting down on the alphabet mat playing with Grace. More specifically it looked like he was trying to get her to crawl, even through she was a long was from doing so. Jo shakes her head and gives a chuckle and decides to head inside to see how they were doing. She opens the door and sits down on the mat, "Hey buddy," she says.

Theo looks up at his mother with his eyes wide open, so much so that they appeared to be bulging out of his head, "Hi mummy. Look, Gracie is going to crawl!"

"Oh, is she now?" Jo asks Theo.

"Ah huh. She's trying hard. I can see," Theo responds. Jo looks at 3 month old Gracie, who was actively engaged in tummy time.

Jo leans down and gives Grace a kiss on the head and then looks over at Theo and ruffles his hair, "how's your day going bud?"

"I ate all of my morning tea and played with Jack and Harper," Theo says excitedly.

"Wow. What did you guys play with?" Jo asks curiously.

"Trucks and blocks!" Theo responds.

Jo hears three the little beeps of her pager, looks down and sighs. Her and Alex's consult was here. "You have to go now?" Theo asks.

Jo nods her head, "Yeah buddy, I do. I'm sorry, I wish I could spend more time here with you and Grace."

"It's okay. You help people," Theo smiles.

Jo smiles and gives him a kiss, "You're the best kid in the world."

Scene break

Jo stands at the nurses station tapping her fingers against the desk while waiting for Alex. She had arrived ten minutes ago and he was still nowhere to be seen, something that made Jo grow increasingly frustrated.

Jo looks around and sees Alex walking towards her. "Good, you're here," he says.

"I got here ten minutes ago. Where have you been?" She questions.

Alex pauses and thinks before speaking. He wasn't sure if she needed to hear the truth about where he was just yet, "it's not important."

Jo huffs and rolls her eyes, "which means you were so clearly sleeping with somebody in an on call room."

"Moving on," Alex instructs, "Alexandra Langheim, 14 years old. Alexandra was referred to us by her family doctor after she presented with a case of intractable hiccups that began two weeks ago."

"Wow, poor thing. I had the hiccups everyday when I was pregnant with Theo and man, it sucked," Jo comments.

"Lets get to it then," Alex instructs. Jo nods her head and Alex leads her into the con cult room.

"Alexandra, hi, I'm Dr Karev and this is Dr Wilson. We're going to look after you today," He says.

"Hi," Alexandra replies before hiccuping.

"You must be Mum and dad," Alex says as he looks over at her parents, who were standing next to the exam table that Alexandra was sitting on.

"Elizabeth and William," Mum says.

"Dr Wilson, could you please explain what hiccups are and how they occur?" Alex asks. Jo nods her head and explains the process to Alexandra. "Dr Wilson, what would be the best course of treatment?" Alex asks.

"We're going to go ahead and admit you for an abdominal ultrasound so we can have a look at what's going on," Jo states.

"Excellent job Wilson," Alex praises. He excuses himself from the room and instructs Jo to complete the ultrasound while he's in surgery. She had the strict instruction of preforming the scan and then waiting for him to deliver any results.

Two hours later Alex paged Jo to an free exam room where Jo showed him the scans and what she had found.

"Look here, there's a small tumour pressing against the diaphragm. I think that might be what's causing her hiccups," Jo says as she points to the scan.

Alex nods his head, " I think you're right. We'll need to resect the tumour and preform a biopsy to ensure it's begin. Excellent spotting," Alex responds.

"Hey, are you alright?" Jo questions.

"Yeah, why would I be?" Alex asks.

"Because you've been praising me an awful lot today. More then usual," Jo responds.

Alex nod his head, "how are you?" He emphasises.

"I'm okay," Jo responds.

"I heard about your husbands surgery," Alex says quietly.

"What! How the hell... how the hell did you hear about his surgery?" Jo responds annoyed, almost aggressively.

"Amelia... she had a prep meeting this morning for the surgery. I was intrigued by the surgery and what you had said the other day so I went, even though I'm not going to be operating... it's why I was late for the consult. I thought that maybe for some reason you were assisting in the surgery and that's why you asked me the question... because you were disagreeing with the choice they were making or something. But then she mentioned that the patient was your husband," Alex explains.

"Who else was there?" Jo demands.

"Ah... Murphy, Edwards, Dr Grey, guy Shepherd and Dr Yang, so she can monitor his heart through the surgery," Alex replies.

Jo breaths, "Okay."

Alex opens his mouth to say something, but closes it without saying anything. "I'm guessing you have an opinion about this too? That's why you opened your mouth but closed it without saying anything?" Jo responds.

Alex shakes his head, "I think that there's no wrong answer. That you have to do what you believe is the right thing to do. It's an impossible situation with no right answer. But I do know that when you asked me the other day in the OR what I would do... I wasn't lying."

Jo sighs in frustration and buries her head in her hands for a moment before looking back at Alex, "I agonised over this decision. I have no family to talk too and his family... They live in Connecticut and don't know the first thing about anything medical so are trusting me to make the right decision medically every step of the way. So making this choice alone, doing this internship and looking after two little kids on my own... it's debilitating. I want my husband back... I need him back because I can't do this alone anymore. It's just all too much... it's too hard and If I have to keep doing this alone then I'm going to burn out and break. This surgery... it's my best chance of having my family back again." She replies emotionally.

Seeing how upset and fragile she was, Alex pulls her in for a hug, "And I really hope you get that Jo, I do."
