Chapter twelve- Fearless
And I don't know how it gets better than this,
You take my hand and drag me head first,
Fearless
And I don't know why but with you I'd dance,
In a storm in my best dress,
Fearless…

Two weeks later- May 11th
It was a perfect night, the sun was setting as 26 year old Josephine Wilson sat at a dining table surrounded by candles. She could hear the calming sounds of the waves hitting the sides of the cruise ship. Sitting across from Jo was Chris. The pair had decided that they needed a much deserved break from the rest of the world to just focus on them and celebrate all that they had overcome in the past few months and had decided on a short cruise departing Seattle.
"It's beautiful," Jo sighs, "and so relaxing. I never knew that the salty smell of ocean water and wind blowing my hair everywhere could have such power."
"Well, it's only taken me like 9 years to get you on one," Chris recalls.
Jo chuckles, "yes, okay, I know I was resistant to the idea of cruising in the past, I should of listened to you….. You used to go on them all of the time with your family. We need to bring the kids next time, I feel bad that they're missing out."
"We will, don't worry. And who knows, maybe next time we could get a family suite," Chris comments.
Jo laughs, "Oh, I know that's not happening. I'm on an interns wage and you earn a teacher salary. Sorry babe."
"Ouch, that hurts a little," he chuckles.
Jo smiles and looks out over the calm blue ocean waters. She turns back to Chris, who to her surprise was now kneeling on one knee in front of her. Jo gasps. Her gasp catches the attention of some of the fellow guests around them and they all turn to find out what was going on.
"Josephine Alice Wilson, you are one of the lightest lights in my life. When things were tough, scary and almost hopeless you shone the brightest and helped guide me home. Will you marry me?" Chris asks.
"Marry you, Chris? We're already married," Jo responds gently.
"I know we are babe. But we've been through a lot these past few months, you more so then me. You stuck by me throughout it all... you moved me to Seattle so that I could get world class care... I'm sure it would have been easier to run, and knowing you I'm sure you gave it serious consideration. But yet you stayed, it couldn't have been easy, and if that doesn't scream unconditional love, then I don't know what does. So marry me again, please," Chris replies.
Jo gives a cheeky smile and covers her mouth, "yes," She exclaims as she nods her head.
The guests around them clap as they embrace in a passionate kiss.
Scene break
"I can't believe you proposed to me in front of all those people!" Jo exclaims, "What would you have done if I said no?" She asks cheekily as they snuggle up on their bed. The bed in their balcony room was positioned to overlook the ocean and they had the sliding door open to allow the breeze to enter the cabin and gently move the curtains in the room.
"Well, considering you're my wife I was fairly confident that you'd say yes," he laughs, "besides, you don't have it in you to break my heart, you're far too nice."
Jo playfully hits him on the shoulder, "Yeah, lucky."
"What about we have a wedding?" Chris suggests. The suggestion catches Jo by surprise, and she moves slightly away from him and looks up.
"Like a real wedding?" Jo questions.
"Well, it would be a vowel renewal per say, but we deserve it, don't you think?" Chris questions.
Jo nods her head, "well yeah, we do deserve it. But we've already had a wedding."
"I know, but it was small and budget," Chris interjects. "When we were dating you'd tell me all of the ideas you had for our wedding, but we weren't able to do them because we couldn't afford anything…. hell, we could barley afford the wedding we had. My parents, grandparents, siblings and some close friends were the only people there.'
Jo chuckles, "Lucky the Connecticut church had a special going and lucky that your parents paid for my dress."
"I mean, don't get me wrong, it was the epitome of budget weddings, but you deserve to have the wedding you've always dreamt about…. With family, friends and more then just budget takeaway and the reception," Chris responds.
"Where is the money coming from Chris?" Jo asks.
"I spoke to my parents and they've agreed to help us out with the money. They say its the least that they could do given everything that's happened. That we deserve to start this new chapter of our life with something magical," Chris explains.
Jo takes a deep breath in and out and allows herself to dream about all of the possibilities, "Okay," She smiles.
"Really?" Chris asks.
Jo nods her head, "Yeah, really." Chris leans down and kisses his wife.
"Do you remember when I proposed to you the first time?" Chris asks.
"At the carnival, how could I forget?" Jo laughs.
Flashback- January 2008
"I'm am so sorry I'm late," Jo says as she quickly rushes towards the entrance of the carnival.
"Well, you're usually 30 minutes late, this time you're only 20, so I'd say that makes you early," Chris grins.
"That is 100% true. I totally deserve credit for that," Jo chuckles as they walk into the fair. It was Connecticut's annual carnival, so entrance was free and rides were relatively inexpensive.
Jo and Chris look around them
"Jo gasps, "Look, a photo booth machine. We have to get some photos,"
"Do you remember what we go up to in there on our first date?" Chris grins.
"Of course I remember…. We had like a ten minute pash session, I'm pretty sure we broke like 20 laws that night," Jo chuckles.
"Wanna do it again?" Chris queries.
"Seriously, I find the fact that you have to ask me that question just a tad bit offensive," Jo chuckles.
He takes her hand and they run to the photo booth, which thankfully was unoccupied. They remain inside for over ten minutes where they pash as the machine snaps some pictures.
They straighten themselves up and then exit the machine to gather the photos. "Oh God, I hope no one looked at these as they were walking past. They would of copped an eyeful," she giggles as she studies the photos that were taken.
"You got that right," Chris laughs. "Ferris wheel next?"
"You bet," Jo replies. Jo stuffs the photos into her bag and they head towards the Ferris wheel. They waited 5 minutes and then boarded their carriage.
They sit down on opposite sides of the carriage and it begins to rock and sway as they fell the rode begin to move. When they reach one quatar of the way around they feel the wheel jolt to a stop
"Look at this view," Jo gushes as she looks around.
"Once we're at the top it'll be the best views of West Hartford," Chris exclaims.
"You should be a sales man with a sales pitch like that. You'd knock everyone off their feet," Jo laughs.
"Ha-ha," Chris laughs sarcastically. After a couple of moments The wheel begins to move again and then it stops at the top. Chris kneels down on floor of their carriage and pulls out a black velvet box.
Jo gasps, "oh my God."
"Jo, I don't want to freak you out, but I couldn't wait any longer. I love you. And I know that me proposing to you isn't apart of your timeline yet, it's supposed to come along after you've graduated medical school, but before you start your internship. I love you and I love our lives together. You're my future Jo. Josephine, will you marry me?" He asks passionately.
Jo looks at him for a moment, her heart beating fast and heavy inside of her. She thinks for a moment, "ever since I was little I've had a plan, I had to... I was bumping around foster homes, I needed it to survive... to make it through. It's how I looked forward to my future when it all seemed hopeless. You've taught me that I need to let go of the plan a little. Embrace the unexpected... it's my favourite thing about you. So I can't believe I'm saying this, but, Yes, I'll marry you," Jo grins as she nods her head.
Chris thumbless as he places the ring on her finger and they kiss.
End flashback
"It was magical. It feels like a lifetime ago," Jo gushes.
"I didn't think I could love you anymore back then, but I was wrong," Chris replies honestly.
"I love you too baby," Jo smiles.
