Chapter thirteen- Smile
You make me smile like the sun
Fall out of bed, sing like a bird
Dizzy in my head, spin like a record
Crazy on a Sunday night
You make me dance like a fool
Forget how to breathe
Shine like gold, buzz like a bee
Just the thought of you can drive me wild
Oh, you make me smile,
-Smile, Uncle Kracker
Four weeks later- June 8th
It was hard to believe that just four weeks ago Chris and Jo were talking about having a wedding, and that it was now coming to life.
Of course, once Kepner found out about the wedding the wheels began to move quickly. Both Jo and Chris had anticipated getting married again in about 6 months, given how had a wedding was to plan and how busy they were.
But Kepner, no, she was nothing short of a wedding planning beast, somehow, on top of her already busy schedule, she was able to plan an entire event in just a couple of short weeks and in three days Jo and Chris would walk down the aisle again.
Flashback
"Wedding, did someone say wedding?" Kepner questions after overhearing Mo on the phone
"Ah, yes," Jo confirms.
"Who's getting married?" She asks.
"I am, or rather Chris and I are going to have a vowel renewal wedding,"
"And you need somebody to plan it. Of course I will, you don't even have to ask,"
"I didn't ask," Jo replies slowly.
"I would be happy too. I love weddings, they're so magical and if anybody deserves a magical wedding it's you two. You've both had the year from hell and of you can survive all of that, then you're love is truly something magical."
"It really is," Jo smiles.
"Did you have anything in mine? Or can I just use my Pinterest board and run ideas by you?" Kepner questions.
Jo bites the corner of her lip, "I have a dream wedding book at home," She admits.
"Oh yay! That's great! Just swing by your place during your lunch and send it my way,"
"Wow, thank you," Jo replies before hearing a pager go off.
Kepner looks down, "it's me. Gotta go," she says chirping before heading off.
Jo shakes her head and looks at Kepner in amazement as she rushes off. "What was all that about?" Steph asks as she approaches Jo after witnessing the exchange.
"Chris and I are getting married again and Kepner is apparently planning it," Jo responds.
"A free wedding planner, nice one. I mean, I can't say I'm surprised she offered, this is Kepner we're talking about."
Jo chuckles, "you're right."
End flashback
So here Jo sat, selecting one of the very last elements of the wedding, a cake. Of course there was classic vanilla, but now wedding cakes had the tendency to be a little 'extra' and Jo had to select from Vanilla all the way through to double choc red velvet.
"What are you thinking?" Kepner asks as Jo places the fork down on the 10th and final plate of cake.
"I think Vanilla. It's classic and Chris and his family love Vanilla cake," Jo responds.
Kepner nods her head, "vanilla it is."
"Was that the only thing you needed me for? Because I have to go prep for surgery in a few minutes," Jo responds.
"Invites. You never got back to me with your family list. It's too late to post them but I can send them an email invite," April states.
Jo shakes her head, "I don't have a family list for you."
"Aw, come on. It's your wedding day. Are you sure there are no family that would come?" April asks.
Jo sighs, "I'm a foster kid. Chris, our kids and his family are my family. They've all I've got aside from you guys."
"I have everything I need then. Remember, your bachelorette party is tonight," April says with a huge smile before walking away.
Scene break
Jo, Alex and Arizona stand side by side as they scrub into surgery. They were operating on a 32 year old woman who was at 37 weeks gestation. Her unborn baby, a little boy named Charlie, had been diagnosed with CDH and would require immediate attention after birth.
Arizona, while not an OB, was qualified enough to preform the C Section and had been doing checks on the baby boys CDH throughout the pregnancy. Alex and Jo we're going to be providing the much needed medical support for Charlie upon his entrance into the world.
"Ah, I've never been so full in my life," Jo moans as she scrubs in for the surgery.
"Too much lunch?" Arizona chuckles.
"More like too much wedding cake tasting. You know, I never remembered picking a cake being as involved last time," Jo comments.
"Well, you didn't have Kepner planning your wedding last time," Alex reminds her with a chuckle.
"Well, if I pass out in surgery it's because I'm cake drunk," Jo responds seriously.
"Gotcha," Arizona responds. "And I'll be at your bachelorette later."
"Can you give me any idea as to how big this party is? Kepner won't tell me anything," Jo complains.
"Oh no, no, no. Because if I did, Kepner would kill me," Arizona replies with a deadly chuckle.
After completing the scrub in procedure the trio walk into the OR where Samatha Wright was prepped and ready to go. "How are feeling Samatha?" Arizona asks kindly.
"A little anxious," Samatha responds honestly, "and scared. Do either of you have kids?"
Arizona nods her head, "I have a little girl and Dr Wilson has a little boy and a girl."
"I know that he's not here yet, but the love I have for him is the same as you have for your kids," Samantha replies.
"I know. I wouldn't let just anyone look after Charlie. Dr Karev and Dr Wilson are going to take great care of Charlie after he's born," Arizona responds, "now, when I make the C section incision you may feel some sensation, but no pain. You may feel some tugging and pulling sensation as I bring Charlie into the world, but again no pain. If you feel pain at any point please tell me so we can adjust your pain meds," Arizona replies.
Samantha nods her head and surgery begins. Within a mater of minutes Arizona had delivered the baby boy and Alex and Jo check his stats and intubate him to allow him to breath better.

At Jo and Chris' Home
That night
"How do I look?" Jo questions as she walks out of her ensuite bathroom and into the bedroom to show Chris her outfit she was planning to wear to her bachelorette party. It was a simple black knee length dress with silver heals. Jo had curled her black hair and allowed it to flow freely over her shoulders.
"You look hot. Who's the lucky fella?" Chris laughs.
"Oh, you don't know him. He's smart, kind and funny. But most of all he's rich and is buying me a boat as a wedding present," Jo jokes.
"Sounds like a great guy,". Chris responds.
Jo walks closer to him and they kiss, "he is a great guy. He's also been through a lot and is kind of a medical marvel. Don't tell him I said that though cause it will only go to his head."
"Ah, gotcha," he laughs.
A minute later they hear the doorbell ring, "that will be April," Jo states.
"Have a good night tonight. You deserve it. And don't worry about the kids, they're fast asleep and will be fine," Chris responds.
Jo nods her head, "thank you." She gives him a kiss and heads down to the front door to see April.
"Great, you're ready. Lets go. I've got big plans," April says excitedly.
"Does it include that ginormous limo out the front of my house?" Jo questions.
"Yes, it does," April confirms.
"And How did you afford a limo?" Jo asks curiously.
"I know people, come on," April responds. She takes Jo's hand and they rush out to the limo. The driver opens the door and they get inside. Jo takes a moment to look around and sees Steph, Arizona, Callie, Meredith, Leah, Heather, Bailey and Chris' sister Lucy and mother, Alice in the limo.
"Oh my word! This is amazing!' She exclaims.
"I knew you'd like it. Now, champagne?" April asks.
"Ahhhh," Jo hesitates.
"Jo honey, I know you're breastfeeding, but you can pump and dump," Alice reminds her.
"Okay," Jo replies. She sits down and takes a glass.
"I can't believe you're all here... for me no less," Jo exclaims.
"If anyone deserves it, it's you. Besides, Kepner said alcohol was free," Meredith chuckles.
Jo pauses for a moment, "wait, if you're all here then who's working at the hospital?"
"The guys," Arizona chuckles.
After a thirty minute limo ride they reached the venue, a club in the middle of Seattle.
They enter and head over to a reserved table. "Now Jo, this is for you," April says. She pulls out a pick 'bride to be' sash and a silver crown.
"Why thank you," Jo responds. April assists jp to place the sash and crown on while Meredith heads up to the bar to order some drinks for everyone. She returns with a tray full and places them down.
"What's this?" Callie asks as she picks up a bit of folded paper.
"The bartenders name and number," Meredith grins.
"You're married!" Bailey exclaims.
"I know. It's for Steph," Meredith replies.
"Me!" Steph exclaims.
Meredith nods her head, "Yes, you. He said you were cute and now you have to have drinks with him."
Everybody turns and looks in the direction of the bartender, "he's cute," they confirm.
After three hours, many, many, many drinks and tons of regrettable decisions later later the woman decide to call it a night and catch the limo back to their houses to catch a few hours of sleep before the next morning arrived.
