"Okay, I think we lost that stupid Surge Protector," Ryu said, as they were now in the entryway to get into Fit It Felix Jr. Richard dusted himself off, and brushed his arm, since Ryu dragged him so hard, he had fallen over once.
"That guy just keeps going on and on with questions, and more questions," Ryu grunted. "Come, this way," He said guiding Richard over to the train cars.
Richard couldn't help but chuckle with a hint of nervousness. "It's really like you all have gotten your subway system here to reach different games..." He said. "What... is this place even exactly?" He said looking around. "Like, is this a... pocket dimension or something?"
"Pocket dimension?" Ken said confused. "Now, what is that?" He said as he sat in the seat of the car.
"No," Ryu replied as he sat next to Ken, followed by Richard. "This is the power cord," As soon as Richard was seated, since, he was the last, the train pulled off.
"We're traveling down the power cord right now," Ryu said.
Richard blinked, as he fully understood what Ryu had meant. "W-Wait a moment... So you're telling me... that entire big area we just left... is a power surge protector?!"
Ryu nodded, with a slight smile. "Yep,"
Richard let out a single laugh, that was mixed with a gasp. "Wow," He said shaking his head as he leaned back on the seat. "Who would have thought that there are little people are living inside arcade machines,"
Richard gasped a bit once he saw they had left the tunnel. The train was slowing down, and he slowly looked behind him and saw the towering Penthouse that he always used to see in 8-bit form. "Holy shit..." He gasped in amazement. "It's... It's the Penthouse from Fix-It Felix..."
The train came to a complete stop, and it hit the buffers, causing it to shake. It surprised Richard because he was too focused on looking at the tall building. "You okay there?" Ken had asked.
"Y-Yeah, I'm fine," Richard said, as he saw Ryu and Ken both hop off, onto the platform. "I like how this one seems like an actual train station..." Richard mentioned.
"You should see the one in Hero's Duty," Ryu chuckled.
Now since, all of them were off, it was time to find Sonic. They walked off of the platform and down onto a path that led to the Penthouse, and around to a second set of buildings. Richard looked up at the tall building, then his eyes drifted over to the screen. "Wow..." He said in pure amazement. His eyes then noticed the second set of buildings on the right of him. He arched his eyebrow, then took another glance at the screen. "Those... buildings over there wouldn't been shown on the screen at all,"
"You're right, they don't," Ryu said. "They're off-screen. There are the homes for some characters that were given a home here,"
Richard blinked. "A home? Characters? Which ones-?" Richard stopped once he saw a little orange ball, with a long mouth step out of a building. "No way..." Richard said. "Is that Q*Bert?"
"Yep," Ken confirmed.
Richard squinted his eyes. "You know, Q*Bert is in Fix-It Felix Jr... Apparently. I've come here so many times when I was younger, and well, ha... I had never seen him before. But then one day they were all over in levels..."
Ken nodded. "Yeah, " He said, "Well, that's a long story,"
Walking down the path, lead them around to the second set of buildings. It was like a little community. 'What is this place?' Richard said to himself. As he walked with Ryu and Ken, he saw a table, a picnic table, at the center of this town area. A bunch of characters were there. "Ah, there he is," Ken had said.
Richard looked. "Who?" Then, he saw him. Sonic the Hedgehog. Richard's eyes widen a little bit, "Holy crap..."
The characters at the table were just talking with each other, it took them a while to notice that three other people were walking towards them.
Felix, was the first to see. "Oh! Ken! And Ryu, what brings you all to our game tonight?" He asked, with a smile. "Oh! And who's this guy? You look new! Well, welcome to Fix-it Felix Jr!" Felix quickly jumped from the table, Richard gasped at the sight, it was as if Felix was moving in a lower fps. "I am Felix!" He said cheerfully as he extended his arm out.
Richard smiled softly and returned the gesture. "I'm Richard,"
"What game are you from buddy?" Felix asked, "A rather graphical one I'd say, whoo!" He said with a soft chuckle. "Never seen a game character with this amount of graphics since my wife was plugged in,"
Richard blinked repeatedly. "W-Wife?"
"Oh! Calhoun over here is my Wife!" Felix smiled, gesturing to the main character of Hero's Duty, sitting at the table, who did a welcoming smile.
Richard gasped. "Oh... oh my God Sergeant Calhoun!"
"Oh!" Felix blinked. "You've heard of her?"
"Uh... I-," Richard froze.
"You know," Sonic started. "If you just got plugged in, I don't remember there being a plug-in alert,"
"Hmm, you're right Sonic," Felix said. He looked back at Richard.
Ryu sighed. "Well, this is why we brought him here," he said.
They all looked confused, shared glances, and looked back at Ryu. "Huh? What do you mean?" Sonic asked.
Ryu placed a hand on Richard's shoulder. "Richard here isn't a character. He's a player,"
They all froze for a moment. Felix squinted his eyes. "Come again?" He said.
Ryu chuckled. "It's true,"
Richard sighed. "It's very true, it all is... I'm a player. I'm the owner's grandson,"
All of the characters at the table looked very confused. "What? That doesn't make any sense!" Ralph yelled.
"Oh my land..." Felix muttered.
"Wait... so... let me get this straight... You're a human being and you jumped into a game?" Sonic asked.
"What would you even call that? Going Torbo 2.0?" Calhoun asked.
"Guys, guys, no. Definitely not," Ryu said, "I'm sure Richard didn't mean to come here. Judging by his reaction anyway, I don't think that's the case. Just a mistake had happened, and now we sadly have to all endure it," He said.
Ken nodded, "But, we have to endure it. So, for the time being, since this is an actual human being before us, we have to make him comfortable. He needs something to eat,"
Felix glanced at the table behind him. "Well, we were having a little night picnic. Sonic had brought a bunch of his chilly dogs,"
Ryu nodded, "Good, he's been drooling for those,"
Felix had picked one up and had given it to Richard. Richard looked down at the hot dog. He slowly took a bite, chewed, then swallowed. He blinked, then took another bite. "Oh god..." He mumbled in between bites. "This is the best chilly dog I've ever eaten in my life..." He said.
Sonic smiled. "Well, thank you!"
"Flix, you wouldn't mind if he stayed in your Penthouse, would you?" Ryu asked.
"Hm? Oh, definitely not. Considering that he's a human and Litwack's son? He can stay as long as he needs to. We got a few empty rooms," Felix said.
Richard sighed as he flopped down onto the bed on his back. He stared up at the ceiling. "What the hell was this day..." He said to himself. They actually had a spare room. The bed was at least comfy. "This probably will make one of my weirdest days ever... How will I even get back? That storm is out there, I need to reset the breaker if anything were to happen,"
Richard sighed. "Great..." He grumbled. "Stuck in a game world... what a weird thing to say," He rolled onto his side. He heard chatter outside. He blinked. "Who's that?" He said to himself. They sounded like other kids like him. "Hmmm..." He sat up, swung his legs over, and stood up. He walked over to the door. He placed his hand on the handle, and slowly turned it, and slowly pulled the door to him. He blinked, he saw Swizzle at one of the doors of the Penthouse. Richard was about to close the door, but Swizzle saw him. He gasped. "Richard!" The green-haired racer smiled.
Richard froze, then opened the door, seeing that Swizzle, Candlehead, and Gloyd were together in the hallway. "H-Hey guys," Richard said opening the door wider. "Wasn't expecting you to be out here,"
Swizzle giggled. "Yeah, we live here,"
Richard blinked, he was not expecting that at all. "Wait, what?"
Candlehead nodded, confirming. "Yeah, Sargeant Calhoun and Felix adopted us, they're our mom and dad,"
Richard just stood there staring at them from the doorway. "Ah..." He said.
"You look confused," Gloyd said.
"Of course, he's confused dummy," Swizzle said, "This is all new to him,"
"It... I'm sorry, I just wasn't expecting Fix-It Felix and Sergeant Calhoun of Hero's Duty, to adopt the kids of a candy racing game game. That was on my top least expecting thing to happen,"
Candlehead smiled. "Trust me, a lot of things happen down here, that even we don't understand sometimes,"
Swizzle looked at Richard. "Hey, don't forget about your date with Rancis tomorrow buddy~,"
Candlehead rolled her eyes. "Ugh, you're still going on with that?"
"What?!" Swizzle snapped. "He likes him. Trust me, I know a lot of humans who like certain game characters. And they can't get together for reasons you know! But, now Richard here can have a chance!"
"It doesn't even seem like Rancis is into him," Candlehead said.
"That isn't true, you don't see how flustered he used to get when his back was turned to the 3rd person camera?" Swizzle asked.
Richard fell into another bashful state. Remembering all the times he used to gush over Rancis behind the screen. One time he even kissed the screen.
Knowing that Rancis saw all of that happening, made him want to hide in a hole forever.
"Look, now you're making him blush like madness," Candlehead said.
Richard tried to change the subject. "Uh... so... uh..."
Swizzle giggled. "Trying to change the subject?"
Candlehead elbowed Swizzle. She looked back at Richard. "So, you're doing alright otherwise? I know this might be weird..."
Richard sighed and scratched the back of his head. "It is weird... I mean, it must be weird for all of you,"
Swizzle nodded, "Yeah," He said folding his arms. "It definitely is..." He came a little closer to Richard. "An actual human being... I never thought I'd see the day..." He reached over and poked Richard in the cheek. "Your skin feels... realistic!"
Candlehead rolled her eyes. "Swizzle, I'm sure his skin feels just like ours..."
Richard was feeling extremely bashful from being poked in the cheek multiple times by this racer, and he backed away, his back hitting the door. He let out a quiet 'oof' as he did.
Candlehead gently pushed her friend. "Swizzle you're flustering him,"
Swizzle smirked. "Not my fault he likes all the boys in Sugar Rush~,"
Richard was trying to hide his blush, but that was becoming impossible to do, so he just went to go back to his room. "I'm...gonna go..." He said as he slowly turned around.
Swizzle let out an amused giggle as he saw Richard looking hilariously embarrassed, but then-
"Hey, Candlehead? Gloyd?" Said a familiar voice. "Taffyta wanted to know if you had taken her candy..," His eyes darted to Richard who was about to open his door. "Her... uh..."
Richard's eyes locked on his, and then... he let out a comical squeak and tried to run into the room faster, but then the door wouldn't open. "Op-Open you stupid... door!" He grumbled out.
Swizzle was trying so hard not to laugh. But once he heard Richard muttered that out: "PIFFFFTTTT HAHAHAHA!" He laughed loudly and leaned onto Candlehead for support.
"Ugh, get off me!" Candlehead grumbled and playfully pushed Swizzle off of her.
Richard quickly turned around and tried to act cool. "How's it gOing? Unluckily for him, his voice cracked badly once he said going. Richard's eyes widened as he covered his mouth. The snort that came from Swizzle and Gloyd could wake up the entire penthouse.
Even Candlehead had to giggle. "Richard, what the heck was that?" She asked with a smile.
Swizzle could barely speak. "I-... Oh my... Oh god HAHAHAHA," He laughed so loud he actually fell on the floor.
Candlehead looked down at him with a shocked expression. "Oh my god, what's wrong with you?!" She chuckled.
Rancis blinked and looked at Richard.
Richard's face went more red, and then, he grabbed the knob, turned it, and dashed into his room.
Rancis blinked repeatedly. "This guy's a dork in person,"
Candlehead had to giggle at that. "I'm sure he's alright. Hey, he likes you. You're his fictional crush. No human has ever met their fictional crush before, cut him some slack,"
Racis nodded. "Yeah, Yeah,"
Richard lay in the bed again, staring at the ceiling. "Holy shit I'm dreaming... when I wake up... I'm gonna wake up in my bed back home... Yeah," He said. "Definitely..."
He sighed. He closed his eyes, and he drifted off.
Richard placed his bag on the floor. "Okay," He said looking at all the arcade machines, "Where is everyone?" The place was surprisingly barren. "Come on, Grandpa's arcade is always filled with people..." He said as he walked forward.
"Well, more for me," He said with a smirk. "No wait times!" He fished into his pockets to get out tokens. "Hmm..." He frowned. "I don't have any? Damnit..." He looked for his grandfather's office. "He wouldn't mind if I snag some more..." He said.
He turned his head, to look for his grandfather's office. "There it is..." He walked down the path, which had many arcade machines on either side. "Wait... that's... that's... not his office," He sighed, "I think that's the closet where he keeps his cleaning supplies," Richard went to turn around, but then he saw a spilled popcorn bucket on the ground. He blinked. "Who dropped that?"
He turned back to the door that he thought was the office. He sighed. "Fine..." He said answering his conscious. "I'm essentially robbing his tokens, might as well work for it,"
He turned the knob and opened the door, and was greeted with an entire room of cleaning supplies. "Grandpa definitely has a million different types of bleach and cleaners holy shit..." He said shaking his head. "I guess if you run a business that has countless 5-year-olds every minute, can never be too careful,"
There were a lot of things in the closet. "Now where is the broom?" He flipped on the light switch. "That's all I need. Plus a dustpan,"
He turned his head, the spotted the broom wedged behind a small section of a shelf. He took it, but then a pan was leaning on it, and it fell, over. Richard sighed. "You just had to fall didn't you?" He went to pick it up, but then he noticed something deeper in the closet behind a few boxes. "What is that?" He leaned closer and saw that it was a deactivated arcade cabinet. He tilted his head. "Huh? Oh... What the?"
He removed some of the boxes and put them behind himself. Now, the arcade machine was more visible. He came closer to it, it looked very retro. 'Kid Powers' was written on the top of the cabinet. Richard tilted his head and looked down at the screen. He blinked once he realized it was turned on.
'Kid Powers - Press Start'
"What is this? A platformer?" Richard tilted his head. The game showcased an 8-bit kid, shooting things with lasers out of their eyes on the start screen. "Hmmm..." He said to himself. "Never heard of this before..."
He was about to press the start button, but then he heard a noise behind him. He looked, and then he saw something shadowy duck from the door.
"H-Hello?!" Richard yelled out.
Richard gasped and jumped awake, looking around frantically. "W-What the hell? Okay... I'm just stressed out," He said rubbing his eyes. He lowered his arms and looked around the room. "I'm still in this three-dimensional 8-bit world..." He said, "So I wasn't dreaming yesterday..."
Then, he sighed and covered his face. "But I was definitely dreaming last night! Holy shit... That was... weird," He looked out the window. With how hectic he was feeling yesterday, he didn't even think to look out to see the view... if there was any view. "Hmm... Why does it still look night?"
He opened the curtain, and had to wince when a light shined in his eyes, "Ahhhh..." He groaned as his eyes adjusted. "What is... What...? Oh..." He said.
'FIX IT FELIX JR - PRESS START' But in reverse from the side Richard was in. "It's just the... screen," He shook his head and leaned on the window seal. "Grandpa... You're never gonna believe this..." He said to himself as he stared out into the world he had abandoned. He sat there for a few minutes, just staring out into the arcade building.
"What time is it even?" He mumbled to himself. He squinted. "I can't even tell if it's day or night with the screen's blue hue..." Richard's stomach then began to rumble. "Oh..." Richard blinked, resting his hand on his stomach, as he vibrated under the palm of his hand. "Well, if my belly sounds like that, that must mean it's nearing morning..." He said to himself. At that moment, he head rustling out of his door. "Huh?"
Then, he heard a knock.
Richard blinked. He walked over to the door. "Who could that be? Felix?" He said to himself. He touched the knob, and twisted it, and opened the door. Richard gasped when he saw Rancis out the door, and he quickly took the door and closed it back.
Richard stood there for a moment, then he shook his head and mentally slapped himself in the face, "Richard you idiot! Why would you do that..." He yelled internally to himself.
He took a deep breath, and opened the door again, only to see Rancis still standing there.
"H-Hi..." Richard awkwardly said.
Rancis blinked. "That was incredibly rude..."
"I..." Richard's voice hitched in his throat. "I... I... uh.. I know, I'm so-sorty... I mean sorry!"
Rancis just blinked repeatedly at Richard. "I... I'm sorry did you just say 'sorry' wrong?" He had a slightly visible amused look on his face.
Richard bashfully looked away. "N-No... I..."
"Don't lie, I heard you," Rancis said as he shook his head. He had an amused look on his face, and Richard was way too bashful at the moment to form words.
Rancis sighed, "Swizzle sent me.. to come get you,"
"G-Get me?" Rancis said.
"Yeah," Rancis nodded. "We normally head back to Sugar Rush early in the morning to get ready for the Arcade to open... but according to him, the Arcade is closed?"
Richard quickly nodded. "Y-Yeah! It is," He said, trying to sound calm. "It is..." He said.
"Well," Rancis started. "Well, I know you're a human, so... you obviously cannot eat too many sweets like us in Sugar Rush, but I know humans eat pancakes with maple syrup... We have a lot of that back in Sugar Rush,"
Richard blinked. "P-Pancakes?"
Rancis nodded. "Yeah? Do you like them? Or, have you ever had them for that matter-,"
But, Richard's stomach groaned loudly, interrupting Rancis from talking. Richard's face went extremely red, and he covered his belly.
Rancis slightly chuckled. "I never heard a stomach growl that loud before,"
"G-Guess I'm very hungry..." Richard blushed.
Rancis nodded, then turned away. "Well, come on. I'll take you to Sugar Rush,"
Richard nodded. "O-Okay..." He said, as he walked out from the room, and closed the door. He sighed to himself. 'Don't embarrass yourself in front of your crush... this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make a good impression on him...' Richard said to himself in his mind. He followed Rancis down the hallway.
