Before I start, I wanna apologize for the long update. I've been completely swamped with work and school that I've barely had time for writing. I keep seeth that my story is still gaining followers and favorites even though I haven't posted in 4 months and I guess that is what motivated me into doing another chapter. I am NOT going to stop writing into this story or stop writing at all because I have a lot more ideas for different stories and ideas so get ready for those!
Now onto the story!
A few hours after leaving the lighthouse, Lyson made his way to the lower deck of the ship, his mind racing.
'What the hell was that? I thought I was the only one who can read that language. And who the hell is Freya?' His brain running at fast speeds to comprehend the facts. He needed something to keep his mind off the events.
"Maybe I should get started on those notes I promised those pirates." Lyson mutters to himself as he pulls out one of his blank notebooks. He sets it down and grabs a nearby ink pen, pondering on what to write.
'To be honest, I was going to give them some random bullcrap, but...' Lyson shakes those thoughts away as he begins writing.
"Understand that there are three types of Devil Fruits..."
After an hour of non-stop writing, a dense chill begins to fill the room rather quickly. Lyson's hand begins to tremble at the cold and looks around for anything that he could use to warm himself up. In the corner, he spots a stack of blankets and goes to grab one before returning to his writing.
"Okay," Lyson says, chewing on the end of the pen, "I included all types of Devil fruits with their qualities, but I shouldn't go further than that. I don't want to put all my cards on the table. Maybe I should stop-"
"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"
A loud scream knocked Lyson out of his thoughts as the inside of the boat begin to sway as if they were making a sharp turn. An ink bottle began rolling on the table and was about to spill over his notes, but Lyson was able to grab it before it tipped over. He quickly put a cork on the ink bottle and gathered his notes together before making his way up the ladder to the upper deck. When he reaches the trapdoor the boat took another lurch, that pushed Lyson off the ladder and hit the hard floor.
"Ah! What the hell is going on up there?" Lyson asks as he pushes himself up, but his hand touches something wet as his body becomes heavy. "Wha..." Lyson looks on the floor and sees that something has hit the side of the boat, causing a large crack to appear, leaking seawater in the room.
"Shit! Seawater!" Lyson heaves himself with all the strength he can and quickly tries to dry off his hands. He musters enough strength to climb the ladder and opens the trapdoor, a powerful wind hitting him.
"Hey! There's a leak down here!" He shouts before seeing the state of everyone. Miss Wednesday calls out to Ussop about another leak and the sniper makes his way down to the barracks with Lyson with a hammer and planks. Sanji, Nami, Luffy, and Mr. 9 are all scrambling to get the boat to safety.
Lyson, after seeing Usopp leave to take care of another issue thinks to himself, "Just what in the hell is going on up there?"
After the activity on the boat calms down, Lyson peeks his head from the trapdoor and sees everyone sprawled on the deck, tired. He makes his way up on the deck as a relaxed Zoro walks over to the downed crew.
"Hey, no matter how nice the weather is, you guys shouldn't be so lazy." Zoro says as he turns to an exhausted Nami, "We better be on the right track."
Lyson rolls his eyes at the swordsman's ignorance and walks up to Nami to steal a peek of the log pose, then turns to see Zoro interrogate Mr 9 and Miss Wednesday.
"Y'know I think I've heard those names before... or maybe not." Zoro taunts then as Lyson sees Nami get up from the floor, rage on her face as she gets down and stands behind Zoro before clocking him on the back of the head so hard, his face hits the floor.
"How dare you sleep comfortably after all this time...? You kept sleeping no matter how many times we tried to wake you up..." Nami demands, anger dripping from her voice. Zoro angrily looks back at her before she delivers another 3 hits, leaving him clutching his head.
"We can't leave our guard down, everyone! We don't know what's going to happen next!" Nami announces, "I finally understood how the Grand Line got its name. No doubt about it since my navigation skills are no good!"
"How blunt..." Usopp mutters, "Are we still gonna be okay?"
"At least she's honest about herself." Lyson says to himself.
"Things will still work out in the end. In fact..." Nami points towards the horizon as a landmass emerges from the fog, "Look! Our first journey is over!"
As they drew closer, the fog thinned to reveal an island with mountains that resembled cactuses.
"It's an island!" Luffy declares from the figurehead.
"So this is Whisky Peaks..." Sanji thinks aloud, "But it's really a funny-looking island."
"Those cacti are huge!"
Behind the group, Lyson sees the two strangers back away slowly before making a grand leap on the ship's railing, gathering the attention of everyone on board. The two of them leap once again into the open water, calling out, "Bye Bye Baby!" and proceeded to swim towards the island.
Lyson watches them leave and makes his way below deck to grab his belongings, 'I guess this is the end of the road for me, time to get out of this crazy place!' He thinks as he returns on the upper deck, his bag slung over his shoulder and a neat stack of papers in his hand. When he surveys the upper deck, a light fog begins to envelop the ship as Lyson makes his way to Nami.
"Nami, was it?" Lyson asks, holding out the stack of papers, "I believe this will suffice for my end of the bargain."
"Whaaaaa?"
"You're leaving now of all times?
Nami blinks before taking the stack and begins flipping through it, eyeing each page. "So these are the notes about Devil Fruits? How do we know they'll be useful? How do we know if you wrote a bunch of nonsense instead of useful information?" Nami questions the scientist.
"How would I have trusted you to not steal my belongings and throw me off-board?" Lyson replies, rolling his eyes, "I trusted you with my well-being so I am returning it. Those notes are a blessing for rookies like you entering the Grand Line. Unlike the Blues, Devil Fruit users lurk in every corner so being unprepared for a moment can mean the end of you all." Lyson explains looking at each crew member. "Now if you would excuse me..." Lyson jumps up to the railing like the two bounty hunters and takes a final glance at the captain of the ship.
'Monkey D Luffy...'
As the fog continues to grow, Lyson takes a step forward off the ship and seemingly falls into the ocean below, much to the surprise of Luffy, Zoro, and Nami.
"Waaahhhhh! He's gonna drown!"
"THAT IDIOT!" Zoro cried out as he rushed to the railing and looks over the edge, but the dense fog heavily obscures his sight and he sees no trace of the scientist.
"Why did he do that?" Nami asks, eyes wide as the boat continues to sail to the island.
Lyson, as soon as he stepped off the boat, his feet landed a foot over the ocean and he casually walked above the ocean to the nearest shore as the fog concealed his actions
"Thank god that Rubber Brain's power wore off a while ago, I did not want to arrive on an island with a boat full of pirates," Lyson mutters, and he reaches ashore and deactivates his ability, landing himself on solid land. He begins to wander aimlessly in the dense fog, trying to get higher ground.
"Heh heh heh..."
A small chuckle causes Lyson to stop in his tracks as he whips his head around, trying to pinpoint the location of the sound. Dark shapes start to dart around him as Lyson pulls out his chain whip. Lyson begins to spin his whip in a clockwise motion and holds it above his head. The resulting updraft of air causes the fog to thin and reveal almost a dozen men around him. Most of the men have swords but others have an assortment of guns, spears and one man even has a large iron mallet strapped to his back.
Lyson stops spinning the chain and eyes the men surrounding him as one of them steps forward, the one with the iron mallet. A closer look reveals him to be a burly man with a handlebar mustache.
"Well, well, well, looks like a rat escaped from the big bad pirates." The man says in a mocking tone as he reaches back and pulls out his mallet. "Looks like you need some help."
When Lyson pulls his chain closer the men with guns point their firearms at him. "No thank you, I rather not listen to a man whose bad breath I can smell from here." Lyson says, smirking at the man's glowing red face.
"KILL HIM!"
"Hobā-Hobā*: Air Jump!"
The men with guns aim at Lyson as he bends his legs, but when they shoot, they hit nothing but empty air.
"Wha?"
"He's gone!"
"Where did he go?"
The men begin to frantically look for the purple-haired man as the man with the mallet suddenly feels a sharp pain in his hand, making him drop his mallet, the handle facing up. The man looks up to see what hit him and sees the end of a Morningstar hovering in the air, the chain leading up to the sky. The man looks up to see where the chain ends, but his jaw drops. In the middle of the air, a couple of yards above the ground, Lyson sat crossed-legged, the end of chain whip in his hands. Lyson gives the man a little wave as he spots the mallet on the ground and his eyes light up with an idea.
"What the hell!?"
"He's flying!"
"No, he's sitting on air!"
Lyson stands up, still in the air, raises his arm, and whips the chain towards the mallet, much to the confusion of the men.
The chain wraps around the handle of the mallet as Lyson pulls it up. "Shit, why is this so heavy?"
Lyson manages to lift up the mallet, to the much surprise of all the men, begins to spin his arm. The motion of his arm causes to mallet to circle around him until it rises above the men's heads and orbits the scientist.
"What the hell?" The mallet's owner yells.
Lyson drops from his place in the air and lands on the ground, chain still in hand and mallet still spinning.
"Deamon Whip: Circum Mundum!*"
The mallet, still in his orbit, flies all around Lyson, knocking down every man that comes in its path until it reaches its owner, smacking him on the head, knocking him out. The force of the orbiting mallet soon dies out as it falls to the ground with a thud. Lyson, now on the ground again, surveys the knocked-out men. He tries to search the men but doesn't find much that gave him his answers until he notices something peculiar.
'If these guys were bounty hunters, then why are they dressed up like civilians?' Lyson thinks as he stands over a lanky man holding a sword, but still unconscious. Lyson grabs the man's leg before crouching down once more.
"Air Jump!"
With another burst of air, Lyson and the lanky man are launched high in the air before stopping a good distance in the air. Due to the pressure and force, the lanky man begins to stir. He opens his eyes and realizes he's upside down and hanging high in the air by his feet. Pure fear is etched on his face when he looks up at the shadowed expression of the scientist.
"Hello there. I want answers, and you are going to give them to me." Lyson says calmly, a small smile on his face.
*Demon Whip: Around the World
So there you go, folks! This is one of the first-ever proper fight scenes I made for Lyson and I think it looked pretty good. I notice a lot in One Piece is that people's attacks sometimes include a different language, like Sanji's French, Franky's English, and Zoro's Japanese. Lyson's method of attack names are derived from Latin.
I hope you enjoyed the chapter and Review, Review, Review!
