This is the first chapter! I hope you all like it and the following ones! While this is mostly based on the comics, there are also my own ideas and ideas from the cartoon and other fans. I had to make a lot of changes to the lore to make things make sense, and I plan on writing very detailed explanations on my profile. Do you guys think we should ask Disney to try rebooting the comics again or to revive the cartoon with season 3? I think as long as the cartoon writers and/or any original writers from the comics are involved, either of them will be decent. Considering that Disney made some weird decisions that made it seem they wanted this franchise to fail, all of the writers did pretty good jobs. It most probably won't happen, but I hope that if enough people talk about my reboot and mention it to Disney, they'd use it as a blueprint for a reboot.

Wilhemina Vittoria Vandom, better known as Will, looked around the Silver Dragon. It was a little Chinese restaurant run by the Lins, the family of one of her new friends, Hailan. She, Hailan, and their other friends, Irma, Tamika, and Cornelia, were sharing a booth while Yanlin, Hailan's grandmother, brought them fortune cookies and lo mein.

It was odd, in a good way, that she and Tamika were the new girls and yet so quickly part of this friend group. It was only yesterday that she met Tamika, hit it off, and then went to the school Halloween dance where Cornelia brought them over to join her friends. She let her mind wander as she thought about the dance. It was a typical school dance, except for the fact that Sheffield was a school with many magical kids, and so the resident troublemaker, Uriah Dunn, chose to use his fire powers to turn the ordinarily safe and fun customary burning of the pumpkin into a potentially dangerous event, which caused a mild panic until she and her friends used their powers to keep it under control and make sure Uriah couldn't cause more mischief until Professor Collins came to the rescue with a fire extinguisher. Hailan then said that her grandmother had invited them to come to the Silver Dragon the next day after school.

"Girls, I asked you here to tell you something important," Yanlin said. "You may have heard of the Guardians of the Veil."

They nodded. The Guardians were five young winged women in colorful outfits with elemental powers who first appeared in Heatherfield close to one hundred years ago. They never said what the Veil was or what their names were, but they were frequently seen in the town helping citizens with regular and magical problems, and even went to other countries several times to help. A different group replaced them several decades later, and after they were no longer around, there hadn't been another group since.

"There is a world called Metamoor, which is connected to Earth by several portals, and the Veil and its Guardians ensures that any travel between them is strictly regulated. Now, in addition to that, there is the matter of Prince Phobos, the illegitimate ruler of that world. Because of him, his sister the princess had been taken here as a baby by three servants to protect her from Phobos, and now he has found her and sent his servant Cedric to tell her a version of the story that would have her running to him. That girl is your friend Elyon."

"Isn't that guy who owns the bookstore named Cedric?" Tamika asked.

"I thought it was fishy that she went to his bookstore instead of the dance!" Cornelia exclaimed. "What are we doing here then? We need to get her away from him!"

"Unfortunately, it's not so simple," Yan Lin sighed. "Her adoptive parents haven't been entirely truthful because knowledge of Metamoor is heavily restricted and they didn't want her talking about it to anyone, though they did eventually tell her she was adopted, had magic, and should beware strangers. While they did start hinting at her heritage, such as signing her up for etiquette and dancing classes and the like, they were afraid to tell her the whole truth. She can be quite impulsive, and they didn't want her doing anything rash. They had also brought her here to keep her safe, not necessarily to raise her to take her throne when she was older."

"And so we do nothing? She's my best friend!" Cornelia said angrily.

"And unfortunately, this situation is delicate. She's already confused and upset by what Cedric told her, and we don't want to add to that. There's also the fact that Guardians are just supposed to guard the Veil and only interfere when asked, just like Kandrakar is just supposed to observe the two worlds and only interfere when asked. It is tempting to interfere when you have the power, especially when it involves someone close to you, but people need to make their own choices and mistakes. And if Elyon is to eventually defeat Phobos and be Queen, what kind of Queen would she be if she's prevented from making her own choices and mistakes and learning from them?

Now it's time to give you your powers. All five of you have noticed you have certain abilities for years now. Those are because you were destined to become Guardians, and so the Heart of Kandrakar has granted you a portion of your powers years before so you would know what to expect when the time came. Now is the time for you to be granted your full powers. Irma, you will have the power of water, independent and unbreakable. Wise Tamika, you will have the difficult gift of fire. Firm Cornelia, you will have power over earth, and you, my little Hailan, will be as free and light as air. You, Will, will have the Heart of Kandrakar, which allows you to magnify your powers and transform."

She took out a glowing pinkish white pendant that levitated over to Will. "These elemental powers also give you several secondary powers, which we will discuss later. And Cornelia, you won't do nothing. You'll train with your powers, learn about Phobos's history, and keep tabs on Eyon. Right now, she's in Metamoor, but Cedric and his servant Vathek have orders to do what they can to get rid of you. But they are reluctant to draw attention to themselves, and Phobos also wants them to concentrate on convincing Elyon that their fake story is real. So, you don't have much to worry about, and you have allies here that will also keep an eye on them. So now, your main goal is to close the portals, which appear on this map," she said as she flourished it.

"This is for you, Hailan. Your parents agreed to let you girls meet in the basement, so let's go and see how you look in your Guardian forms."

"Our parents know?" Hailan asked as they followed her grandmother. "And how does Cedric know who we and Elyon are?"

"Phobos is a skilled sorcerer and told Cedric when he sent him here, and of course it would be silly to give you these responsibilities and then expect you to keep them a secret from your parents which would make it harder for you. There are no official rules on keeping your identities secret from anyone else, but you should still not tell anyone else unless it's necessary. When you transform, your outfits are based on what you like and what you wish, but don't wish for anything too extreme, as you need clothes you can move in easily. Your bodies will also be stronger and heal faster, but you still need to be careful if you're in a fight. As the Keeper, you, Will, are able to transform them, but if necessary, they can transform by themselves. All you have to do is hold out the Heart and will it."

Will did, and each girl was in an orb of colored light. The orbs vanished, and the girls looked at themselves. Will was wearing a purple tank top under a sheer purple tunic with a hood, long bell-shaped sleeves, and her elemental sign on the front, a blue triple chain belt with the elemental sign in pinkish white as the buckle, tight, knee-length, semi-sheer shorts with a swirl over each knee, blue and green striped tights, and knee-high, mesh, platform, purple boots. A blue choker was around her neck, and she had blue, wrist-length, mesh gloves on her hands. Her hair was shoulder-length and shaved on the left side.

Irma was wearing a slightly off the shoulder, long-sleeved, blue top with a matching large bow on the neck and a small blue bow on each shoulder and her elemental sign on the front with the shirt ending in two swirls over her purple, tiered, and tasseled high-low mini skirt with a large matching bow on the top and a small one on each side. Her hair was in four long braids threaded with blue ribbon that was tied in bows on the ends, and purple kitten-heeled pumps with a matching bow on the front were on her feet. A light blue brooch in the shape of her elemental sign was on the right side of the sign on her shirt, a purple Oktoberfest hat was on her head, and she had a matching edelweiss bracelet on each wrist and a matching edelweiss necklace.

Tamika was wearing a blue leotard with a swirl by the neckline and her elemental sign on the front, under a purple, short-sleeved, mesh romper, a thick blue sash tied around her waist with a red pin in the shape of her elemental sign on the knot, blue elbow-length wristbands, and purple strappy sandals that laced up to her knees over her striped tights. Her hair was in blue and purple beaded cornrows.

Cornelia was wearing a blue long-sleeved shirt with sleeves that ended in a swirl on her hands under a long, sleeveless, purple dress with a cutout on each side of the top and her elemental sign on the chest, a green ring in the shape of her elemental sign on the strips of cloth by her neck and stomach, and a high slit at the bottom. A sheer purple shawl was around her shoulders, she had knee-length, high-heeled, purple boots, and her hair was in a double Dutch crown braid. She also had three blue bangles on her right wrist and a purple arm cuff bracelet on her left arm.

Hailan was wearing a blue pantsuit with swirls as sleeves and a purple knee-length skirt with high slits tied with a blue cord over it and blue detached sleeves up to her shoulders with purple ribbons wound around their lengths. Purple ribbon was also wrapped around her waist and stomach until her elemental sign. Her customary pigtails were longer and with odango buns. On her feet were purple Mary Janes and a silver anklet in the shape of her elemental sign was on her right ankle.

They all had small green and blue wings.

"These outfits are a great way to experiment with fashion, aren't they," Yanlin said with a chuckle. "This brings back so many memories."

"Are you saying what I think you're saying?" Hailan asked.

"If you think I'm saying that I was a Guardian, then yes," Yanlin said with a smile. "I'm sure you have many questions about that, but now's not the time for that. Now's the time to get a feel for your powers." She spent the next twenty minutes teaching them about their secondary powers and to conjure their elements in a controlled fashion, and then said, "that's enough for today. You don't need much formal training to be able to use your powers, but practice is essential if you want to use them well, especially against others with magic. You should practice in and out of Guardian form to understand your limits in both forms. Before you go home, check the map."

They did, and found that there was a portal in their school gym. It didn't take too long to go there and close it, and then the girls went home.

In this reboot, magic isn't a secret and many people have powers. Ever since I learned from TV tropes that Taranee and Hay weren't culturally accurate names, I had to correct that and the other inaccurate names. Two of the most baffling things in this series is Elyon turning into a crazy psycho and no one from Kandrakar telling them anything, so that's changed. Someone told me that the original authors thought of Susan as Southern Italian, so she's Italian now, which is why Will has an Italian middle name. Irma's name makes much more sense to me if she's German, so Anna is her bio mom and German. The girls are a little older in this reboot because if children are going to have to deal with all this, they should at least be on the older side. I wanted to make their outfits look more like Magical Girl outfits with accessories and more out there fashion, so besides my ideas, I incorporated some things from their New Power looks, the doll only Power Girl looks, and their looks from the cover of issue 126 where they have different outfits for some reason. The girls are also experimenting in fashion especially Will and Tamika, who are also going through their bad girl phase, so they took the opportunity to express it in Guardian form, though they're not looking to be too outrageous. And none of their shirts are cropped (seriously, what is it with young girls and this obsession to show their stomachs, and why do so many people try to normalize it in fiction? It's silly and not what you should encourage children to do).
