Chapter One

The metal clanking together, sounded throughout the large room. The large training room was full of gadgets and tools, to strengthen multiple types of individuals. The clock sat above the exit door, showing the time as 3:38. My eyes rolled as he yells at me through gritted teeth. "Quit watching the time and stay focused!" His mask sat firmly over his eyes, shielding anyone from seeing them. I smile as we stand with metal bow staffs, pressed together in a battle of strengths.

"Just seeing how much longer I have to piss you off." I smile as I let my hold go, sending his momentum forward. Bracing on the pole he swings sideways with his foot. I'm caught off guard at his quick recoil and his boot slams firmly into the side of my shoulder. Flying back I land on the padded floor with a thud. My violet hair splays over my face as I lay with my eyes closed.

"Shit, Rae.!" He rushes to me.

"Wow. The room is kinda spinning." I squeeze my eyes shut.

"I'm sorry, it was just instinct." He brushes the hair off of my face as he sits next to me.

"You're fine, I'm just not on my game today." I slowly open my amethyst eyes.

"You haven't been." He looks down at me, and then away. "Wanna talk about it?"

"Not really." My sigh rings out as I sit up slowly.

"You know you can always talk to me" he reminds me. I nod smiling lightly. Slowly I push myself up off of the floor, standing. I stretch lightly. Looking over he still sits on the floor. "We can be done today, I don't want to push you too much."

"Robin, I'm fine." I lean over grabbing the bow staff.

"Don't lie to me." His gaze falls onto my arms. I look down to the markings still healing on the flesh.

"I'll focus on healing them. I wasn't too worried since I usually wear long sleeves." My gaze fixates on the marks of scath. I stand in the purple tank top and black biker shorts. Feeling naked without my cloak and long sleeves.

"Do they hurt?" His voice cracks.

"A little." My fingers trace along them.

"I'm sorry." He stands walking to me.

"It was destiny. The scars will heal" I smile lightly.

"About the scar that won't heal." He takes my hand holding it lightly.

"What?" I look up at him. His expression is sympathetic

"About what he did." He admits

My cheeks flush red and I drop his hand slowly backing up. My head races. My tongue darks out licking my lips awkwardly. Although the world was frozen, I awoken Robin. He was the only person I could trust. His trust means everything to me. Assuming he was at the church, I didn't think he saw what happened. Falling to my death as I was unconscious, it was great luck he saved me. His swinging body clashed into mine, cradling my damaged self. Robin sat us on a nearby roof as I began to awake. He never said anything or acted different, so I assumed he didn't witness my assault.

"You know?" I stammer grabbing my arms, covering my body. His nod confirms. I look away and slowly back away. I turn away from him. I walk fast heading out of the training room. His body doesn't move and I hear a sigh escape his mouth. Rushing through the tower, I secure myself into my bedroom.

Retrieving my pajamas I decide at almost 4 in the afternoon I am ready for bed. Hiding from the world in a cocoon of blankets sounds like a great day. Slipping on the red plaid pajama pants I strip my shirt and bra off throwing on the New York Yankees sweatshirt. Throwing my hair into a messy bun, I lay in bed. I roll my body to watch out the window. Zoning out I think of the day. The day that has haunted me for almost 6 months now. With the battle of Brother Blood I was able to keep it off of my mind, but now I can't. I squeeze my eyes shut as my birthday replays in my mind. Slade's hands clamp hard on my biceps burning the symbols into my skin. His hand reaches out grasping my throat as he unbuttons his pants. The horrid memory sends tears to my eyes.

The rain slowly drizzles against the windows as my eyes sting with soft silent tears.

Coming home that day, Robin never gave a hint of him knowing. He's gave me a few looks here and there but nothing like the one he did today. I thought I could pretend it never happened. Sweep it under the rug and move on. Obviously it effects me more and more everyday since Robin finally decided to address it. My evening goes unbothered as I watch the sky darken with the continued rain. My pillows surround me and help my body ease into the soft mattress, sucking me into a soft depression daze. The rapping at the door starts at about 8pm from the small alien girl. I'm unbothered and don't even flinch with it. The door is secured and Star never comes in without an invite. She calls my name while she knocks. Giving up I am left alone in my thoughts once more.

The feeling of his breath on my neck as he forced himself into me. I remember the burn in my throat as I screamed. The pain surged through me as I tried to escape but I was powerless at the moment. Sitting up in a gasp I shake from the past memory. Folding my fingers to my scalp I squeeze my eyes shut. Slade's words still linger in my ear Oh, and Happy Birthday. He mocked as he threw my body off of the building, finishing the job.

My body jumped as I felt my bed shift. Opening my eyes I gasp loudly as Robin holds his hands up in defense. "You're safe Raven." He continues his way up to my body. I nod as the streams roll down my hot cheeks. His black sweatpants are baggy, along with the red tee. His mask is glued firmly in place. His hands pull the covers back and he sits his body next to mine. My knees sit tight to my chest.

The feelings rush over me as his arms wrap around me. His hands force me into his embrace. I feel his weight shift as he lays us down. My head is on his chest as he braces my side. Taking the blanket he secures it around us. The feeling is comforting. It's warm and gentle. The human touch is abnormal for me. I've only hugged Robin once and it was a deep embrace that warmed my soul. I'm not a hugger. In fact I'm not a toucher. Robin however knew what I needed, even when I didn't. His hand holds mine as I lay on his chest. His heart beat is like a drum. My chest loses tightness and my tears slow as I try and steady myself.

A moment I will cherish forever, I think to myself. Friends like Robin are rare. My thoughts aren't as much of Slade now as they are of the boy under the weight of my body. It's sweet if I didn't think of his girlfriend who came to the door earlier. I feel a sense of guilt as I think of Star. Seeing his bare hand hold mine, I'm sure the alien would not be okay with the closeness.

"I shouldn't have brought it up. I'm so sorry." He whispers. "I didn't see it happen Raven. I just saw you falling and your clothes exposing you."

"It was horrid" my voice comes out soft, almost child like. He pushes me tighter against him.

"Your bed is like super soft." He yawns lightly.

"Why are you here Robin?" My thoughts return to Star.

"You need human connection right now." He admits.

"Robin," I sit up on my elbow, turning my head to him. "You're my best friend." I smile lightly. "You've never came into my room and laid in my bed."

"I know." He states, "do you want me to leave?"

"No." I smile lightly. "I just-" my sentence cuts off as his body moves. The sensation surges through me as his hand embraces my cheek. The fierce realization of what's happening clicks and I react. Robins lips press into mine softly. Long and passionately he kisses me. Longing fills my chest and I press back. Releasing my lips he looks at me. I smile softly with a blush. I lean my lips back in, stealing another one. His lips are soft against mine.

Before I can move or try to steal another. The red lights flash as the buzzard rings through our ears. His lips separate from mine fast, throwing me off of his body. Jolting up his body reacts before anything. Racing out of my room I barely sit up before he is gone.

My mind races as I try to process what just happened. Standing from the bed I grab my uniform quickly changing.

Running down the hall I bump into Star as my fingers push on the clasp of my cape. Guilt consumes me as she smiles at me. My heart feels heavy as I feel the betrayal of kissing the red headed aliens boyfriend. We rush together into the main room. Somehow Robin is fully dressed in his uniform standing at the controls. How he managed it, stumps me.

"Why him?" I hear the green changeling mumble.

"I know BB." Cyborg stands with his arms crossed.

"Who?" Star floats to the computer standing next to Robin.

"Fucking Plasmus." Beastboy rolls his eyes. His hatred for the slime monster shows.

"He's fucking up the Downtown District." Cyborg huffs.

"Let's go." Robin demands turning on his heel. He stomps past me, as if I'm invisible. Everyone follows in suit. Star takes to the sky as Beastboy chases after Robins bike speeding down the highway. My body is warm in the T car with Cyborg. Looking out the window the rain still drizzles as the 9pm sky sits into the April breeze.

The thought of facing plasmus doesn't bother me as much as the memory I just saved in my mind. My fingertips reach to my lips, remembering the sweet kisses shared. The heat of his breath against my lips. The smooth soft pink lips pressed against mine. The taste of coffee on his lips make me want to drink a cup. I smile softly as I close my eyes trying to feel it again.

"You okay sis?" Cyborg cuts through my thoughts.

Snapping my hand back down to my side I look at him. "Yeah." My monotone tune rings out. He nods at me while side eyeing me. I sigh as we approach the scene, witnessing the large purple monster throwing cars at the large skyscraper. As if a toddler was set loose in a model town to play. Gathering together we stand in unison, surveying the area. People still rush from the scene, trying to escape the destruction. My head aches as I pick up their panic and fear. Being an empath honestly sucks. I never have a moment of peace without feeling someone else's feelings.

Robin comes up with a plan and quickly fills us in. Divert him to the large park on the other side of the street, get him away from destruction. Cyborg and him will take him out with a Sonic Boom. Try and get everyone out of the area safely.

"Over here!" Robin smiles yelling. He reeves his bike racing to Plasumus. As if a child waiting on a spoon full of food as an airplane he watches the bike zoom. Robin rolls around him, quickly drawing his attention away from the cars and buildings. With a loud growl Plasmus. reaches to pluck him off of the bike. Missing him as Robin speeds off, he is angered. I watch as the mound of goo follows him. Quickly I scramble people out of buildings, directing them away. The people run away. Suddenly as if a flag whipping in the wind my cape flips back and it catches his attention. Shit.

Starfire notices first and flies around him trying to distract him back to the park. Robins bike stops and I see him glare back at me. Cyborg awaits at the park and his hands shoot up in the air as if motioning to bring him on in.

"Alright bud. Let's go play at the park." I grumble flying upwards. His arm lurches knocking Starfire away. She slams backwards, straight into Robin. Knocking him off of the bike it clanks to the ground. Star giggles as his arms are wrapped around her from sliding on the concrete. She leans down pecking his lips.

Guilt consumes me, and radiates from Robin. I feel his emotions raw. I watch his face grows sad as he gets off the ground, looking at me. Distracted by his guilt, Plasmus throws a car, whirling it at my body. I look fast, mouth open as it whirls to me. Holding my hands in defense I put up a wall as it crashes down. It lands in front of me, and I put my wall down.

"Raven!" I hear Robins panicked voice as another car whips to my person. Seeing I'm the target I fly upwards to get away. Get to the park, I tell myself. Feeling weightless my body flys through the sky, swirling past the monster as his arm swings upwards to smack me. Missing I drop lower in flight, heading to the park. The roar booms as he gets faster chasing me.

I'm in the park as Cyborg nods at me, ready in position. Robin smiles as he throws his device up. I get out of the way as it is shot by the cannon. I'm in the clear until his arm darts up, punching me down. My body makes a crater in the dirt as the blast goes off above me. The groan is loud as the Plasmus explodes, sending Otto into a slumber.

"Dude! You okay Rae?" Cyborg stands at the hole looking down at me. My groan responds as I slowly move my feet making sure they still work.

"Holy shit you hit hard!" Beastboy laughs next to Cyborg. His fanged tooth jutting from his smile.

"Where the hell have you been?" I slowly sit up.

"Helping get people to safety" he outreaches a hand to me.

"Ah, so avoiding getting touched by Plasmus goo?" I groan standing to my feet. "Holy crap my back hurts." I feel the radiation of pain through my spine.

"Hey maybe we should get you checked out." Cyborg grasps my arm as Beastboy fishes me out of the hole. "You could have a spinal injury."

"I'll heal it if I do."I huff out as I watch Robin across the park conducting an interview with police. Starfire smiles at me as she waits to the side for Robin to finish.

Since returning home from Tokyo 2 months ago, she has stayed close to his side. Never out of sight in public. In the tower I notice the distance more and more everyday. Robin will hide when he can, or make special private practices like we had today. My gaze looks over to Otto locked back into his slumber chamber.

"Are you guys ready to get home?" Beastboy yawns. "I'm exhausted." I nod lightly turning from the group. Robin and Star begin to walk our way, but I leave everyone standing as I walk away to the T car.

"She okay?" I hear Robin ask as I continue walking.

"I'm afraid she's really hurt her back." Cyborg sighs.

Reaching the T car I slide into the passenger seat. I lay my head back on the headrest as I focus my energy. I weave through each vertebrae with my powers. Working on each dent, crack, and shatter. The driver door opens but I don't respond. I hear nothing as my trance has set in. My eyes remain shut and I focus on the spine of my back. By the end of my work I counted 2 shattered vertebra, 3 fractures, 6 twisted and my tailbone broke. How I even pushed through the pain to walk or sit is beyond me.

My head is pounding and I slowly open my eyes. Cyborg is pulling into the driveway as my trance releases me. He notices my eyes finally open. "How bad?" He eyes me.

"10 damaged, and my tailbone broke." I sigh, "I'm okay now. They're fixed" he nods.

Looking out into the dark night I watch as the garage door opens, allowing the T car access in. Robin pulls up next to us with Starfire cling to the back giggling in his ear. He smiles as he cuts the engine. My eyes look to my hands immediately. I'm not too sure how to feel, if it's guilt or jealously. I look up as he stands outside the car watching me, helmet in his hands. He gives a faint smile and walks away. My eyes follow as he takes Starfires hand into his, stepping into the elevator. Feeling the tightness in my chest coming back, I decide it's really time for bed now.
