Nathan got up and asked Kent. "Hey, where's Cody?"
Kent answered. "He's at The Third Rail."
Nathan went down to where Ham greeted him. "Cody's downstairs."
At the bar, he saw Cody downing a glass of whiskey before taking a cigar from his helmet band and lighting it. "I've Been waiting for you."
He paid the caps owed to Whitechapel. "Meet me at the Memory Den."
At the Memory Den, Kent gave Nathan the Silver Thompson and took it on a range Hancock and Cody set up. He aimed down the simple static sight and pulled the trigger. It fired twenty odd rounds before jamming. Nathan grunted in annoyance. He unjammed it and continued firing in bursts. It finished, but the barrel was covered in a heat haze, already dangerously close to overheating, causing it to almost burn the tips of Nathan's fingers.
He shook his head. "Kent, I want to be the Shroud, but this is not going to do who did you get this from?"
Kent looked down in shame. Cody punched Nathan in the arm hard leaving a big bruise.
Nathan shouted in pain. "CODY!"
Cody gave him a cold stare. "Kent isn't wealthy you know. Not everyone has caps falling out of their ears."
Kent answered. "It's a mix of old and new parts. I managed to scrape enough for Kleo to build it partly new the rest well were salvaged parts."
Nathan answered back all while under Cody's glare. "I'm sorry it just scared me."
Cody grabbed his radio. "General I need a favor got a little project for you."
A few minutes later the whirr of Vertibird engines were heard. Liberator jumped out landing with a small crater. He marched in, causing the curious raiders to flee. He opened the gate met by Finn whose knife nicked his armor. Liberator stared at him through his visor. Finn fled. He met up with Cody.
Liberator was much more forgiving. He tested it himself. When it jammed, he unjammed it and kept testing. He nodded. "Give me a day or two I'll have this one done right."
He marched back to the Vertibird and took off.
Cody rolled out a map. "In the meantime, we need to get the costume. We're heading out for Hubris Comics."
It wasn't that far of a march. The biggest hurdle was the Boston Common people tended to go missing or end up dead there. Cody kept them close together and ordered them to stay quiet and avoid the lake at all costs. They reached Hubris comics but lying at the front door was a dead scavenger. Cody rolled him over searching for anything valuable, he found a note and handed it to MacCready to read it aloud.
"Can't believe I signed up for this. Who wants this crap? "Collectors," the boss says. So, who's the fool here them or us?"
MacCready shrugged his shoulders. "Well little boss lead the way let's get what we came for."
Cody opened the door. Already the sounds of feral ghouls were heard, their murmurs and gargled moans that soon turned into roars. They charged as Cody, Cait Hancock, and MacCready all opened fire upon them. More ghouls attracted to the noise sprinted and shambled downstairs only to be cut down as well. Cody reloaded a fresh mag and went first his M16 smoking and bayonet fixed. He went up to the second floor cutting down more ghouls. He found a locked door to the manager's office. He pulled out his M1911 and pressed its barrel against the lock. He fired and kicked the door in. He found a signed Silver Shroud photo. He moved up to the third floor almost getting mauled by a feral as it opened its mouth, he fired his M1911 the bullet going through the back of its neck killing it. He continued clearing the way. He shot another lock inside was a duffle bag an open safe and a holotape on the desk. He grabbed the holotape. Inside the safe was whiskey vodka and chems which he shared between Cait and Hancock. They made their way to the final floor where the studio was. The final ferals moved in and were shot down.
Backing the ferals however, was a Glowing One. They all focused their fire upon it. It took Cody a full magazine, three shots from MacCready, and four slugs from both Hancock and Cait to bring it down. With that done they finally got the Silver Shroud Costume. Behind the studio was the prop submachine gun. Cody gathered all three of the souvenirs. Before they went out Cait asked. "Cody I'm getting tired of all this sneaking why are we doing it?"
Cody told her. "That pond over there is Swan's Pond. Home to a massive Super Mutant Behemoth. Liberator told me about him long story short he's one of the strongest and oldest Behemoths still around. It's why we always keep quiet and sneak through the Boston Common. Alrigh,t let's keep a calm pace."
They snuck their way back to Goodneighbor. Cody smiled. "Hey, Kent got ya some goodies."
Kent's face lit up. "Memorabilia? Cody, you're the best. Well, all we need to do is wait rest up and maybe Liberator will be done soon."
Back at Independence Liberator finished his work on the Thompson. Its new finish gleamed in the light. He stuffed it and its drums in a duffle bag. He climbed onboard the Vertibird and instructed the pilot to head for Goodneighbor. When he arrived, he jumped out. He met with them back at the range. He handed it to Nathan. "Sorry, my work is a little rusty I had to rush a little."
Nathan stared in awe. It was so clean, polished, and refined. Its new finned barrel and Cutts compensator gleamed. Its iron sights had been upgraded to glow sights. Nathan picked up one of the heavy hundred-round drums. He racked it this time it was much smoother. He fired in a long burst. No issues.
Liberator looked down in embarrassment. "Sorry if it's a little rough I had more plans for it but didn't have time."
Everyone stared in disbelief at the work Liberator did was beautiful. He continued. "I wanted to give it adjustable sights a foregrip and a longer barrel but that would have taken me a few more days. Let me know how I did. I need to return home good luck."
Nathan went into the dressing room and The Silver Shroud walked out. He smirked, adjusting his Fedora and belt on his coat. He made sure his radio and small earpiece were working allowing Kent to keep him updated.
Kent started up his radio. "Calling all Silver Shroud fans. A once in a lifetime announcement. The Silver Shroud returns and he's going to clean up the streets. Everyone heard how Wayne Delancy m-murdered poor Miss Selmy and her kid over a few lousy caps death is coming for you, Wayne."
Nathan made his way to the alley where Wayne was spotted. Next to Wayne, he saw a dead drifter he murdered. He had to keep his cool he was doing this not just for himself but for those who lost hope and in order to give hope he needed to keep in character.
Wayne snickered. "What's with the fancy duds? Looks expensive. Might be I've found a new "friend"."
Nathan did his best to do the Shroud's voice. "Your crimes have gone unpunished for too long."
Wayne snapped. "What the hell's wrong with you? Well, nothing a few bullets won't cure."
Nathan had the advantage his Thompson already drawn. He opened fire on Wayne shredding him with lead what lay now was a shredded mess that was once Wayne. Nathan laid a calling card on his body before walking back into the streets.
Nathan listened for Kent. His earpiece came to life.
K. "Friend of the show Jerry is here."
J. "Is this thing on? Hello? Hello?."
K. "It's on."
Heavy knocking pounded on the door.
K. "WE'RE RECORDING IN HERE!"
The knocking was harder this time.
K."Aw, MAN"
Then static was the only sound for four seconds.
K. "Great. Great! The Silver Shroud's dispatched justice already. Miss Selmy has been avenged!"
J. "Shit? The Shroud offed Wayne? Wait. So, this guy's for real?"
K. "Oh you better believe it! So, Jerry go on! Tell the listeners what we're talking about!"
J. "Uh...why.? This shroud guy he's gonna muscle in on the chem trade now?"
K. "No. He's gonna do something about it. AJ's selling to kids. And his chems have k-killed people."
J. "And...? I don't get it?
K. "We can't let AJ kill kids."
J. "Whatever."
Nathan bolted over to Bobbi's place but to his shock, AJ and two body guards were already in a standoff with Cody his back against the armored door his M16 ready bayonet fixed. He could hear them arguing.
AJ was annoyed. "What do you care if I sell chems to kids awful hypocritical of yourself you take chems from Hancock all the time."
Cody retorted. "Difference is Hancock gives me the good shit clean pure with better highs and lesser risks. Nothing like that trash you're pedaling."
Cody then nodded to Nathan. AJ and his two guards turned to look who he nodded to, but it was too late as Nathan shredded them with Tommy gun fire.
Nathan was confused. "Cody, why did you do that?"
Cody replied. "I did it for your sake Nathan you and I are some of the few Minutemen veterans left and that Shroud Costume isn't bulletproof. Hancock and I have been talking it all ties into something bigger Wayne and AJ they were Sinjin's goons I'll tell you the rest meet us at the Old State House."
Nathan left a calling card on AJ's body. They all gathered with Cody leading the meeting he rolled out a large parchment map he made himself it was a bit crude as expected from a child soldier yet in its own way very detailed.
"Now when I was stationed here under Liberator after Hancock took us in I fought many battles and skirmishes along with some against Sinjin's gang only thing I noted about him was that he was ghoul didn't think he'd become a bigger problem."
Hancock took it from there. "But now he took two-bit raider gangs and made them scary...small fish for now but can be a great deal more monstrous if we don't put them down now."
Cody laid out the plan. "From what I mapped out their main base is Milton General Hospital. So Kent I need you to keep doing your part and act like nothing is wrong. You see Sinjin once we hunt down his other cannon fodder is going to have a pissy fit going to try to hunt you down and hold you hostage but I'm gonna pull Evan off his usual patrol routes to guard you when Sinjin and his gang kick the doors down to the Memory Den they'll be met by Evan clad in his T-45 wielding his M134 Minigun. So once everyone is in place we're gonna hunt down Kendra Northy and Smiling Kate once Evan turns him into paste we'll storm Milton General Hospital and clear out the rest of the vermin. So everyone all set?"
Everyone nodded. "Good let's get to it."
Kent got back on the radio and spoke. "The Silver Shroud is bringing justice to Goodneighbor. You bad guys better watch out. And now a special update. The villainous assassin Kendra was recently spotted at The Third Rail. The same Kendra who bombed Little Joe's shack and killed four innocent drifters. If you want to see the Silver Shroud in action stay near Whitechapel Charlie. The Shroud's sure to interrogate him and find the evil doer's whereabouts."
As he went down to The Third Rail Ham nodded to him when he reached Whitechapel the Mr Handy spoke. "Make way for paying customers. You look like one of them wankers from the posters. Watcha wearing that for?"
Nathan did his best to keep his Shroud act on. "You look upon...the Silver Shroud. I seek a miscreant named Kendra."
Whitechapel was confused. "The Shroud then? More like a nutter. Kendra is not one to be trifled with. People associated with her have a habit of being found face-down in a ditch. If you're set on meeting her, for a fee it can be arranged."
Nathan kept his shroud act on. "It is not wise to stand between the Silver Shroud and righteous justice."
Charlie chuckled. "Justice? You mean to end her? In that case, her flat's just down south of Goodneighbor. Water Street Apartments. Look out for the blighters she's got with her. Nasty piece of business that. Good luck."
With that Nathan met with Cody's squad in an alley and relayed the intel. They sat off for the nearby apartments. They take positions while most guarded the doors Maccready made his way up top on the roof of a ruined building taking his vantage point he covers himself with a cloak to hide himself and shield from the sun he then dials in his scope. Cody sat a timed charge on the wooden doors a bit overkill but likely barricaded.
The charge exploded sending many of the relaxing raiders into the walls or killing them with splinters from the blown-up doors. They all stormed in Nathan with his Thompson Cody with his M16 Hancock and Cait with their double barrels while Maccready kept an eye outside waiting to snipe any trying to escape. The raiders were torn to shreds. Cody went first up the stairs careful to find any traps or mines he saw a turret up ahead and fired a hacking dart Slippy gave him he shut the turret down and then disabled the two mines storing them for later.
He kept to the corner near the door the squad busted in as Kendra realized Cody was behind all this she reached for her radio on her bandolier. Cody shot it with his M1911 the 45 round tore through the radio then into her flesh sending many fragments into her shoulder she went for a stimpack but he shot her left arm shattering bone and forcing her to drop it as she bled. He showed a cold cruel sneer. Her face showed terror normally she was the predator she was the hunter playing with her prey but here the roles were reversed.
"Don't worry Kendra. Kent is safe and sound with a buddy of mine and your little master Sinjin is gonna have a wonderful welcoming party." He nodded to Nathan letting him have the honors. Nathan's voice was cold.
"You have taken your last life villain."
With a spray of his Thompson, he ended her life and laid a calling card. Cody Cait and Hancock helped themselves to her chems ammo and mines. While they went down to strip valuables supplies ammo and weapons off her gang Cody stayed upstairs he cut the wires and fuel to the turret retrieved the dart stowed it away then cracked the turret open taking the two-hundred-round ammo belt of 5.56 for himself. He got to work undoing all the links and began reloading all his clips while storing extras in his helmet's band. He took the rest into his pack and got ready. Their next targets are Northy and Smiling Kate.
As they walked out with plenty of chems stimpacks ammo mines and grenades Nathan tuned to Silver Shroud Radio. "You hear the gunshots outside the gates. Then you heard the work of...the Silver Shroud! Kendra won't be murdering nobody no more because the Shroud delivered his final justice. So don't be shy. You hear of an evil plan? A nefarious scheme? See Kent Connolly at The Memory Den. Change is coming to Goodneighbor!"
They found Northy who was beyond terrified as they gunned down his bodyguards Nathan opened fire sending several rounds into his back. He laid a calling card while Cody's squad took the 10mm pistols and Tommy guns along with ammo from the dead guards. They then went to hunt Smiling Kate.
They saw her giving a pep talk to her group. She saw Nathan. "Well if it isn't the Silver Shroud backed up by little Cody you two been so naughty taking out Sinjin's favorite toy soldiers. But now I think its time to rip your Go_" Before she could finish Cody threw his bayonet with skill landing it into her throat the rest of the squad alongside Nathan took out her goons as she looked blood gurgling out of her mouth. Cody gazed into her coldly and hatefully he reached the handle. "No one takes my Holy Father's name as a curse word." He ripped the blade out spraying blood on himself and the ground. Kate desperately tried to stop the flow but couldn't as blood spewed out of her like a fountain. She died but Nathan did not place a calling card for that kill belonged to Cody.
Meanwhile, Sinjin and Avery and their best men kicked the door down to The Memory Den only to be greeted by even clad in his battle-scarred T-45 Power Armor he stared them down through his cracked visor M134 Minigun spinning. "Didn't say please..."
Sinjin Avery and the others were turned into a thick smeared paste as the Minigun utterly shredded them what few shots they got off pinged on Evan's armor. Cody's plan had come to fruition. They went down to the hospital and began clearing raiders hall by hall corridor by corridor floor by floor. The spoils of war throughout the mission had been bountiful, to say the least. Cody radioed Liberator.
"General. Milton General Hospital is all cleared out send out scavenging parties plenty of stuff we could work with hopefully will get Vera fresh supplies and tools to work with."
Liberator answered back. "Thank,s Cody we sorely need it sending over two platoons now."
While that happened they met back up at Goodneigbor in The Old State House while the Minutemen went to picking through the Hospital. They celebrated that the spoils of war were plenty. Kent was safe Goodneighbor was safer top it off they wiped out a massive raider gang. Kent was so happy.
"Cody, how did you know this would work?"
Cody smiled as he poured himself a glass of whiskey and toasted with his squad. "Come on ya know raiders long enough their so predictable at times its boring. Cheers for a better Commonwealth a better tomorrow and a true rebirth of the Minutemen and cheers that we all made it back in one piece."
Their glasses clinked. As the week went by Cody and his squad were recalled for R and as soon as Minutemen patrols were freed up with Sinjin's massive gang wiped out more scavenge was brought in along with medical supplies and hunting parties of professional Minutemen were established to solely hunt down and wipe out either raiders gunners or whatever else threatened the people of the Commonwealth. Institute crows included.
The Institute was losing its grip the Minutemen grew in power even more so with less and less distractions they feared they'd become Liberator's next target what they did not know was they would soon within a month or two break the final straw only making their worst nightmares come true.
