The sound of mechanical whirring occurred whilst Jennifer slipped the CD in. It was the Tori Amos CD her grandmother had gotten her for Christmas. Jennifer was on a solo road trip, to sort of get away for a while. It was a quarter till two in the morning, and she was already much far away from her hometown in Xenia Ohio. Jennifer was thought by her family to have developed an addiction to alcohol due to her excessive drinking as a coping mechanism.
Of course she couldn't give an absolute fuck what they thought. She was an eighteen year old girl with a driver's license, and an attitude. Her destination was Somerset, Pennsylvania. She had always wanted to visit there to see the historical buildings. Jennifer lit her cigarette before beginning to drive on a highway near Centralia.
Due to the hot weather, seeing how it has only been a few days into July, Jennifer was wearing nothing but a pair of Jean shorts and a crop top. She packed lightly, knowing she'd only be in town for a few nights. The CD started to scratch.
"Oh fuck," Jennifer mumbled.
Jennifer quickly drove off the next exit, and stopped at the intersection. The traffic lights were flickering senselessly, and the area looked littered with abandoned buildings. She drove to the nearest parking lot, to the gas station that looked still in business. Jennifer hit the dispense button on the radio of the old Buick, and the CD was pushed out. The surrounding area was covered in graffiti, and vines were growing up the sides of the gas station.
There wasn't anyone at the counter or in the whole store from the outside. Jennifer climbed out of the car, and went to the doors to see if they were unlocked. They opened easily, and the young girl entered the gas station.
"Hello?" Jennifer called.
There was no response, but the sound of the lights humming. It seemed strange that the lights would be on with nobody inside. This however, did not stop Jennifer from wandering inside the store. She grabbed three bottles of fireball liquor, 3 cigarette packs from behind the clerk counter, and left ten bucks for pay. Even with her urge to steal, she felt it was best to leave money due to security cameras catching her.
A pair of hands clasped around Jennifer's neck. She screamed, and then turned around to punch nothing.
"What the hell," The girl said to herself.
There was nobody in sight. The store was still empty. Jennifer made her way out of the store, and into her car. Closing the door, she cracked open the whiskey and took some sips. This was by far the weirdest place she had ever been in, even weirder than the rural parts of her hometown. Jennifer put the keys in the ignition, and tried to start the car. It wouldn't budge.
she sighed and fell back into her seat. Suddenly out of the corner of her eye she saw a human figure. It was just about 15 yards away from her. The girl got out of her car, and slowly approached what looked to be a person in the distance.
"Hello?" she called. "Do you know what this place is?"
There was no response.
"Hello? Can you tell me where I a-"
Jennifer screamed as she was pushed hard against the brick wall of the gas station. The impact caused her to blackout.
