Episode 72: Exploud and Clear
Today, Mew and her friends have stopped for lunch.
"Thanks, Brock," Max says.
"The food is really good," Mew says.
Tomo happily says, "Yum! I'll take seconds!"
"Thirds for me!" Max says.
"I'll have seconds too," Jen says.
"Eat up, guys. The Gym battle awaits," Brock says.
Then May asks, "So, Mew, tell us which Pokémon you're gonna battle our dad with."
"I haven't decided yet. It's a tough one. All my Pokemon have been doing awesome in their battles. But still, it's difficult to decide on which to use," Mew says.
"That's true," Max says, and turns to see the Pokemon have finished eating, "Looks like you have nothing to worry about."
But then notices, "Wait a minute, Mew. I don't see Treecko."
"Where did Treecko go?" Molly asks.
"I don't know. Where did he disappear to?" Mew says.
Suddenly, they hear Pikachu's voice, "Pika Pi. (Mew!) and walks to and points up a tree, "Pika Pika." (Treecko's up there.)
Everyone soon looks up and sees Treecko sitting up in an old, dead tree.
"Treecko?" Mew responds, confused.
Mew soon climbs up on the tree and asks, "Hey, so, what's going on?"
"Treecko. Treecko Tree." (Nothing. Just in a bad mood.) Treecko says.
"Not feeling hungry either, huh," Mew sys.
"Treecko Treecko Tree." (I'm not hungry. Just leave me alone.) Treecko says.
"But why are you in a bad mood?" Mew asks.
Treecko turns its head away, "Treecko, Treecko." (I don't want to talk about it.)
Mew sweat drops, "Alright."
Everyone else looks on from the ground.
I wonder what's going on up there with Treecko," Mew wonders.
Corphish suddenly scuttles in and makes a dash at the tree and climbs up, forcing Mew to move up the branch.
"Corphish?" Mew questions.
Corphish tries to cheer Treecko up, but to no avail. Corphish starts to get impatient before it falls out of the tree and lands on the ground.
Mew then climbs down the tree, and picks him up, "Oh Corphish, that was nice of you to go up and try talking to Treecko like that."
"Phish." (Thanks.) Corphish responds, weakly.
"Treecko's acting weird," Max says.
"Is he going to be okay?" Molly asks.
"Yeah. He said that he's in a bad mood," Mew says.
"Woke up on the wrong side of the branch, huh," Tomo replies.
Suddenly, they hear hearing coming towards them.
"What was that?" May asks.
"I don't know," Zinnia answers.
"It sounds familiar," Brock says.
Soon enough, a Loudred pounces at them.
"Loudred!" Everyone exclaims.
Soon enough, Loudred sends most of the Pokemon upward before doing the same to the group's backpacks while making noise so loud that everyone has to cover their ears. Loudred rampages away while Treecko looks on from its branch before they all see the Loudred running towards a human.
The young man wears an orange and yellow jacket, pale purple pants, and brown shoes. He also has fair skin, and teal color hair.
A young man calls out, "Loudred, stop it!"
But the rampaging Loudred just pushes the human aside and continues running off.
"Loudred, come back!" The young man shouts and chases after it.
But the Loudred keeps on running
"Come on! Would you please get back here?!" The boy calls out and decides to leap towards his Pokemon, "Okay!"
Then he lands on Loudred's back, causing it to trip and come to a stop, "Talk to me, are you okay?"
Loudred happily confirms
"That's good," The young man says.
"Looks like it finally settled down," Brock says.
"That's a relief," Mew says.
"I was afraid someone was gonna get hurt," May says.
Treecko looks down at Loudred.
A bit later, Loudred is snoozing
The young man explains, "Loudred and I are out traveling full time now with our sights set on entering the Hoenn league."
"Hey, so am I!" Mew says, And my friend and I are on our way to Petalburg City right now. I'm gonna earn my fifth badge."
Wow! I've only gotten two and knowing I need six more seems kind of hard," The young man says.
"But that's the cool part. Every battle each of us have and every badge we earn just makes us more excited for the next gum," Mew says.
"Yeah, I can see that," The young man says.
He then introduces himself, "Oh, yeah, my name's Guy."
"Hi, I'm Ashley, from Pallet Town," Mew says.
"Pika Pikachu," (Hiya, I'm Pikachu.) Pikachu says.
"Eevee," (I'm Eevee.) Eevee says.
"I'm Tomo," Tomo says.
"Skwovet!" (I'm Skwovet!) Skoevet says.
"Mel Meloetta," (Hello, I'm Meloetta.) Meloetta says.
"Hi, I'm May," May says.
"And I'm Max," Max says.
"Nice to meet you, my name's Brock," Brock says.
"I'm Jen," Jen says.
"Amaura," (Amaura's My name.) Amaura says.
"And I'm Molly," Molly says.
"Pleasure to meet you, everyone," Guy says. He then apologizes, "I'm sorry about my Loudred going berserk back there. I mean, Loudred really is great, it's my first Pokémon. But lately it's been acting on its own and sometimes just goes berserk. I really don't get it and it's just recently, too."
"Really? That's strange," Mew says, and looks towards her Treecko.
"I guess Loudred's not the only one. Pokémon must have problems just like we humans do," Mew says.
"Well, when you really think about it, being with the same partner and training with the same partner day after day can be pretty stressful after a while," Brock says.
"Humans can have that same problem," Max says.
"Really? What are you, some kind of expert on it?" May says, sarcastically.
Then Max snidely says, "Well, as a matter of fact, I am. After spending time with you day after day, I've often felt like going berserk myself."
This makes May angry, "What was that, Max?!"
"Don't hurt me, it was just a joke!" Max panics.
But then May sweetly says, "Now, Max, you know that I'd never hurt my sweet, adorable little brother."
Max eyes her suspiciously.
"But maybe you should watch what you say, just in case," May says.
Everyone begins laughing.
"You know, maybe there's hope for you two after all," Brock says.
"Yeah, or it could be a long journey," Guy says.
Mew then has an idea, "Hey Guy, maybe you can have a battle with me?"
"Huh?" Guy replies, confused.
"Maybe Loudred just needs to let off some steam. Who knows, exercise might be the answer to Loudred's problem. I mean, it might help it to start feeling more relaxed and stuff," Mew says.
As she talks, Treecko looks down and listens.
"You're right! Yeah, you're on!" guy says.
Mew then gets up, "Awesome, then I'll choose…"
Treecko suddenly leaps down from the tree.
"Treecko?" Mew questions.
Mew then asks, "You wanna battle, Treecko?"
"Treecko!" (Sure do!) Treecko answers.
"Sounds good to me," Mew says. Then turns to Guy, "I choose Treecko!"
A bit later, both participants are set and ready.
Brock announces, "This Pokemon battle between Ashley and her Treecko and Guy and his Loudred will now get underway."
Treecko spits out its twig while Loudred smirks confidently
"And begin!" Brock calls out.
Mew calls out, "Alright Treecko, let's start with Quick Attack!"
Treecko darts in and lands the attack, but Loudred barely feels it.
"Now Loudred, use Stomp!" Guy calls out.
Loudred puts his foot down and Stomps Treecko to the ground.
"Treecko, us Bullet Seed!" Mew calls out.
Treecko fires the attack in Loudred's face, forcing it to raise its foot and let Treecko go.
Guy then calls out, "Loudred, Supersonic attack!"
The attack is launched from Loudred's ears and hits its target.
"Oh, no!" Mew says, shocked.
"A direct hit!" Max cries out.
Then Guy calls out, "Now use Earthquake!
Loudred leaps as high as it can before coming down hard and shaking the ground while also sending out seismic shockwaves.
"Dodge it, Treecko!" Mew calls out.
Treecko manages to leap over the shockwaves in time.
Then Mew calls out, "Now go for a Pound attack!"
Treecko comes down and lands the attack hard with its tail, sending Loudred rolling backwards and into a tree
"Aw, man! Loudred!" Guy calls out.
"Not bad," Mew says.
Loudred gets up, though battered, and smiles, seemingly ready for more while Treecko stares it down. After a brief moment of silence, both Pokémon start glowing.
"What's going on?!" Tomo asks.
"Loudred, what's wrong with you?" Guy wonders.
"Treecko and Loudred are starting to evolve," Mew says.
Soon enough, Teeecko evolves into Grovyle.
"Alright, Treecko evolved into Grovyle," Mew says, happily.
Soon, Loudred morphs into a large Pokemon. A purplish, bipedal Pokémon with a large mouth. It has red eyes, a stubby nose, and two peg-like teeth in each jaw. It has protruding tubes with holes along its body: seven forming a crest on top of its head, one on each elbow and knee, two along its back, and one at the end of each of its two tails. The tubes along its head-crest and tails are tipped with yellow, while the ones along its back have yellow semicircular patterns on either side. There are two yellow semi circle markings on its belly, but they are rarely seen due to its giant mouth. Its arms have three thin stripes below its elbow and three fingers. Each foot has four claws, three in the front and one in the back, and a yellow paw pad.
"Hey, look at that! My Loudred just became an Exploud!" Guy says.
"Wow! They both evolve at the same time!" Max says.
"So cool," Molly says.
May brings out her Pokedex, "I gotta see about this!"
Then Dextette says, "Exploud, the Loud Noise Pokémon. A normal Type. Exploud is able to incite earthquakes with its powerful voice. Once it sucks in air through the holes and tubes all over its body, a loud attack is sure to follow."
"Now to see about my new Grovyle," Mew says, getting out her Pokedex.
Dextette says, "Grovyle, the Wood Gecko Pokémon. A Grass Type. Grovyle is well-known for its dexterity in treetops, as it is often seen jumping from branch to branch. Even the fastest of Pokémon cannot catch a Grovyle in wooded areas."
Grovyle leaps into action and cuts a twig off a tree with a Leaf Blade.
"Awesome Grovyle!" Mew says, "You can use Leaf Blade now!"
"Having two Pokémon evolve at the exact same time during is pretty unusual," Brock says. He then calls out, "So what do you say? Do you still want to continue?"
"Definitely!" Mew and Guy say.
"Then the battle will resume!" Brock says.
Mew calls out, "Alright, Grovyle, Leaf Blade!"
Grovyle throws the attack.
Guy then calls out, "Exploud, dodge and use Stomp!"
However, Exploud doesn't listen as Grovyle closes in
"Come on, Exploud, dodge it, now!" Guy calls out.
Instead of using Stomp, Exploud starts sucking in air through its head tubes.
"What's that?" May asks.
"It's getting ready for a loud scream!" Max panics.
"Oh no. I think it's going to use…" Zinnia says, worried.
"Hyper Voice!" Mew and Zinnia cry out.
With that, Exploud launches a powerful attack, Hyper Voice, stopping Grovyle in its tracks and pushes it back.
"Grovyle, are you okay?" Mew asks.
"Gro." (Sure.) Grovyle answers.
"That's one powerful Hyper Voice," Mew says.
"I agree, but I didn't even call for that Hyper Voice," Guy says.
Exploud lets out a roar and charges before changing direction and using a Hyper Voice on a tree.
Guy calls out, "What are you doing?! Stop it, Exploud, right now!"
But Exploud doesn't listen and continued on its rampage
"Grovyle, stop Exploud with Bullet Seed!" Mew calls out.
Grovyle launches the attack, but Exploud doesn't even feel it as it runs.
"It didn't work!" Mew says, worried.
Exploud then leaps up and comes down hard, causing cracks in the ground to form along with a tremor before it runs off
"Stop, come back here, Exploud!" Guy calls out.
Then Mew calls out, "Grovyle, try a Quick Attack!
Grovyle rushes after Exploud and manages to catch up, only for Exploud to knock it away, leaving it battered and beaten while it runs on.
"Grovyle!" Mew calls out and rushes over.
Then checks on him, "Are you okay?"
"Grovyle," (I'm alright.) Grovyle says.
"This has gone way too far!" Guy says and runs after his Pokémon.
"Guy, wait!" Mew calls out.
Then turns to the others, "Come on guys, Guy needs help!"
Everyone agrees and runs off as Grovyle gets up and joins them.
Meanwhile, Team Rocket was sitting in the woods, tired and hungry
"Let me guess, we completely lost sight of those twerps again, right?" Jessie asks.
"Worse, we've lost track of time and haven't eaten all day," James answers.
"I've been empty for so long, I've lost track of where we are," Meowth says.
Jessie stands up, haggard, "You do know that a growing human needs at least three balanced meals a day, right?"
"Come to think of it, I don't think we've been sleeping very well, either," James says.
"And as a Pokémon, I need my sleep," Meowth says.
Jessie screams, "An irregular diet and lack of sleep are a woman's worst enemy!" and runs forward, "How could I let that Ketchum kid's powerful Pokémon come between me and my beauty?! I refuse to let these good looks be reduced to rubberish remains!"
Jessie suddenly stops when she realizes she came to the edge of a cliff
Jessie sighs in relief, "That was a close one," and collapses
"Jessie!" James calls out and catches up to her.
Just then, he spots something, "What do we have here?"
They all look down and spot Exploud, drinking from the waterfall down below.
"A Pokémon perched precariously on a precipice," James says.
"It looks to me like it's an Exploud," Meowth says.
"Explain Exploud," Jessie replies.
"De evolved form of Loudred," Meowth says.
Jessie and James exclaim in shock, "A Loudred?!"
They all remember the irritable Loudred they met so long ago before Jessie and James walk away.
"Normally, one would say 'got to catch em all', but I think I'll pass on this one," James says, sweating drops.
Jessie also sweat drops, "I like your thinking."
Meowth catches up with them, "Yous two hold it right dere! Here this! Think of all the prasin' we give if we gave this Exploud to da boss?"
Jessie and James begin to think about it.
"Well, that could be nice," James says.
And Jessie says, "I think I still need some convincing."
And Meowth's fantasy scenario begins.
Meowth explains, "Imagine how much more da boss would rather awake to Exploud than some dingy old alarm clock. Then, after our usual meetin', Exploud would tell us it's lunch time. And days end, Exploud familiar screams will let us know it's bed time. With everythin' in his life runnin' like clockwork, you know what da boss would say, 'Finally, a useful and practical gift from my most trusted employees Meowth and his friends. Us."
Fantasy scenario ends
James happily says, "I can see it now!"
I can smell ït now," Jessie says.
"We'll have wall to wall money!" Team Rocket happily says.
And Wobbuffet says, "Wobb-uffet!" (We'll beeeee rich!)
Meanwhile, Mew and the others are searching for Exploud.
"Exploud!" Tomo calls out.
"Where are you, Exploud?!" Mew calls out.
"Hey, come on out!" Guy calls out.
"Where did you go?" Jen calls out.
Max, May, and Molly call out, "Exploud!"
Then Guy says, feeling discouraged, "Everyone, I'm thinking that Exploud is so angry, it might not ever want to see me again.
"Don't say that, Guy. Exploud is your very first Pokemon," Mew says.
"I know what you mean. But maybe that doesn't matter," Guy says.
Grovyle tried to get Mew's attention, "Grovyle?" (Where's Exploud?)
Mew turns to Groyle, "Grovyle, could you hang on for a minute? I think we all need a little break."
Then Grovyle gets upset, "Grovyle Grovyle!" (Hey, don't tell me to hang on!)
"Sorry I snapped at you, but you must be tired too," Mew says and brings out her Pokeball, "Why not get inside your Pokéball and take a good long rest?"
But Groyle refuses, shaking his head, "Grovyle Gro!" (No can do.)
"Oh Grovyle," Mew replies.
"Gro, vyle!" (Going, up!) Grovyle says before he leaps up and jumps on to a tree.
He continues leaping from branch to branch before reaching the top, still thinking about Exploud hurting his pride
Grovyle responds in thought, "Grovyle!" (I'll find you.)
"Since Grovyle just evolved from Treecko, his stubborn streak has gotten even worse," May says.
"But he's sure gotten a lot cooler too," Max says.
"It certainly is," Zinnia says.
"I wonder, when a Pokémon evolves, does its personality change as well?" Guy wonders.
"I think it depends on the Pokemon," Mew says.
"Exactly. When a Pokémon evolves, it goes through lots of changes. You'll not only notice a personality change, but also in its abilities too," Brock says.
Macx then asks, "So Guy, have you been raising your Exploud ever since it was a Whismur or did you catch it as a Loudred?"
"I caught Exploud when it was a Whismur," Guy answers.
Flashback:
Sometime ago, back when Guy's Exploud was a little Whismur.
Guy explains, "And you wouldn't believe what a cowardly Pokémon Whismur was back then. I mean its voice, you could barely hear it when Whismur spoke. But it was a whole different story when it was crying."
Whismur starts crying a bit
Guy comforts it, "There, there, now. Everything's okay," and pets its ear.
The flashback goes a bit forward in time to when he and Whismur were standing in the middle of a windy and open plane.
Guy continues, "It was certainly a challenging Pokémon, but after some hard work, Whismur evolved."
The flashback shows the moment Whismur evolved into Loudred
Guy continues, "And when it did, all that fear disappeared and the crying stopped all together. Seeing how it changed and how it became so strong and brave really made me happy."
The flashback shows Loudred and Guy dancing together before it ends.
Flashback Ends:
"It was great, but then things started to get out of control and weird," Guy says.
"Wow," Tomo says.
Meanwhile, Exploud was snoozing on the rock it was standing on while drinking from the waterfall, but little did it know that Team Rocket had it in its sights with a Carvanha bazooka.
"Now, corks away!" James says.
From the bazooka, corks launch out of the Carvanha's mouth, plugging all of Exploud's head tubes.
"Five for five!" Team Rocket cheers.
"Sealing all of dose blowholes will make dealing wit dat loudmouth a piece of cake," Meowth says.
"As long as we keep the decibels down, we'll have nothing to worry about," James says.
"Sounds good to me. Now, on to phase two," Jessie says.
James then charges the Carvanha on the bazooka for a new one, and says, "Alright."
The bazooka fires and this time, a net is launched. And when it ensnares Exploud, it wakes up right then and there.
"Net gain! The boss will love us when we bring him his gift!" Jessie says.
Suddenly, Exploud shoots the corks out of its head tubes before breaking out of the net, causing Team Rocket to scream in panic before it sends them flying with one attack
"It popped its corks!" Team Rocket panics.
Exploud lets out a victory roar, one that Grovyle hears loud and clear
"Grovyle?" (What's that?) Grovyle asks.
Exploud lets out another roar, prompting Grovyle to follow it.
"Hey, that sounds like Exploud!" Guy says, and rushes towards the source of the roar.
"Guys, let's go," Mew says.
Everyone else follows behind Grovyle and Guy.
After jumping from branch to branch, he jumps down and lands in a shallow lake, where Exploud is located.
Grovyle calls out, "Grovyle Grov." (Look who's back.)
"Exploud," (You again.) Exploud says.
The two stare each other down as storm clouds blow by overhead. The clouds reveal a glimpse of sunlight, and as they do, Grovyle charges and Exploud leaps upward. Grovyle looks up and sees Exploud coming down with a Stomp, so he dodges in time and hits Explou with a Pound sending it skidding across the shallow water before it gets up and uses a Hyper Voice that hits Grovyle right on the crown of his skull. But Grovyle leaps up and fires a Bullet Seed barrage that easily hits Exploud and sends it onto the shore while Grovyle lands easily
Mew calls out, "Grovyle!
Grovyle looks back to see Mew and the rest of the group.
"Look, they're battling again!" Jen says.
"Why you start battling without us?" Mew asks.
"Exploud!" Guy calls out and runs towards it, "Are you okay, Exploud?"
Exploud gets back up with a roar.
"That's a relief," Guy says.
Mew calls out, "Guy, what do you say we get this battle going now?"
"Sounds good, I'm ready when you are!" Guy says.
"Great!" Mew says.
"Then let's continue the battle!" Zinnia says.
Mew calls out, "Grovyle, start out with Leaf Blade!"
Grovyle darts in with the attack ready to strike
Then Guy calls out, "Quick, Exploud, dodge it and then use Stomp!"
But Exploud does nothing and takes the attack right in the face.
Hey! Why didn't you dodge?!" Guy calls out.
Mew then calls out, "Alright, Leaf Blade once more!"
Grovyle winds up the attack.
Guy calls out, "Dodge, Exploud, then use Stomp!"
However, Exploud catches the attack before it lands
"Exploud caught the Leaf Blade!" Jen says, shocked.
"Worse, Exploud is doing whatever it wants!" May says.
The two Pokémon struggle.
"Grovyle, Pound attack!" Mew calls out.
Grovyle performs the attack and smacks Exploud on the head, freeing Grovyle and sending Exploud sliding back to Guy
Guy says to Exploud, "If you want to win, Exploud, then you have to listen to my strategies!"
However, Exploud doesn't even acknowledge what Guy said and walks away.
"Exploud, wait!" Guy calls out.
As Exploud walks off, Team Rocket watches from nearby
"What attitude! I'd love to have that Pokémon on my side, even if it didn't like to take orders. I'm tempted to keep it for ourselves," Jessie says.
James holds the bazooka with a Sharpedo head on it, "There's no question that an Exploud would be a warmly welcome addition to the Team Rocket ranks. So let's take it from the top, and this time, with feeling."
"We'll keep tryin until we get it right!" Meowth says.
And the three go over their plan.
"So, once again, we'll fire our corks and plug up all holes," James says.
"Just da same as our previous plan from before, except dis time…" Meowth says.
And James says, "Everywhere the Exploud went, these corks are sure to go."
"The twerps will be crying his eyes out once we capture that Pokémon with this, right?" Jessie says.
"Yeah, well, in dat case, I just got one ting to say; put a cork in it!" Meowth says and laughs.
"Okay, I will," James says, and aims the bazooka
However, Guys spots them out of the corner of his eye
"Who are they?" Guy questions.
James fires the corks, prompting Guy to run forward.
Guy cries out, "Exploud, get out of the way!" and leaps in and shields Exploud from the corks
Exploud is caught off-guard by Guy's selfless act.
"Guy!" Mew cries out.
As Guy and Exploud hit the dirt, the corks fly up and then make a power dive downward.
"Are those corks?!" Tomo exclaims.
"They're like rockets!" Molly says.
"And they're coming back!" Brock calls out.
Mew calls out, "Pikachu, Eevee, use Thunderbolt!"
They both launch their attacks and hit the corks, causing them to explode.
"That same old routine?! Why not try something new?!
Everyone sees Team Rocket off to their left.
"Team Rocket?!" Zinnia, Tomo, and Molly cry out.
"What are you talking about?" Mew questions.
And with that, Team Rocket begin their motto.
Jessie:
Prepare for trouble and be sorry you asked.
James:
And make it double cause we're having a…
But Mew interrupts angrily, "Come on! That is so old!"
Team Rocket sweat drops.
"Pikachu! Eevee! Thunderbolt!" Mew calls out.
Both launch the attack, both attacks hit along with Guy's Exploud's own Hyper Voice, and send Team Rocket blasting off with a scream.
Jessie asks. "James, did I hear that twerpette correctly? Was she calling us old?"
"I'm not sure if she meant us or the motto," James says.
"Well, if you ask me, dis whole ting is gettin' old," Meowth says.
Then Wobbuffet says, "Wobb-uffet!" (Weeeee should quit!)
"We're blasting off again. Again," Team Rocket cries out.
"Wooooobbuffet!" (Twice in a day!) Wobbuffet cries out.
Down on the ground, Guy was getting up before Exploud turned towards him.
Guy sits up and smiles, "Hey, there, Exploud. I missed you. You okay?"
Exploud seems unsure of how to react towards Guy
"Well, seems like you are. And that's what really counts, right?" Guy says.
Exploud then offers to lend its trainer a hand to get up before smiling.
"You're smiling! Exploud," Guy says, and is happy. He gets up and asks, "You'll let me be your trainer?"
"Exploud," (Sure will.) Exploud says.
Guy hugs Exploud, "Thank you, Exploud. Of all the Pokémon in the world, I knew I'd pick the best one.
"Exploud." (Thank you.) Exploud says.
"That's so, great," May says.
"Aww," Jen and Molly say.
"Those two really do belong together," May says.
"Yeah, they make a great team," Zinnia says.
"Hey, Ashley, thanks again for all your help," Guy says.
Then Mew says, "I know how you can thank me; we can finish up our battle. What do you say, Guy?"
Guy turns to Exploud, "What do you think?"
"Ploud Exploud," (Let's rumble.) Exploud answers.
"Grovyle Gro." (You're on, bub.) Grovyle says
"Great! Then let's do it, Exploud!" Guy says.
Exploud charges in, "Exploud!" (Here goes!)
"You, too, Grovyle! Go!" Mew calls out.
Grovyle and Exploud soon lock up like wrestlers.
"In the world of Pokémon, there are many exciting and wonderful things, but none as exciting as two Pokémon evolving at the exact same time. And none more wonderful than a trainer and his favorite Pokémon developing a lasting bond.
