"Aaah, who would have guessed that smashing villain hideouts would be so stress relieving. And that the change in scent from arrogance to ever growing fear would be such an exhilarating feeling, no wonder señor Lobo likes the smell," Izuku says while admiring the destruction he caused to Overhaul's base from an alleyway.
Izuku had not been standing idle long before the sound of sirens reached his ears. 'That was quick, but then again such an attack would easily catch the attention of the public. Well, I should get going, it won't be long before Eri wakes up.' he thinks before turning around and walking away.
"Sir Nighteye. I'm glad you heroes have arrived," an officer greeted, upon noticing the hero approaching with his sidekicks Bubble Girl and Centipeder running behind him. Causing two additional officers, the first was in a conversation with, to turn towards the approaching heroes.
"Status report," Nighteye asked, not wanting to waste more time than was necessary.
"Witness emergency calls suggest a possible villain attack. We were about to enter the building, one from the front and two from the back. nearby units are on the lookout for suspicious individuals and on standby if necessary. Additionally, first response teams are on their way for any possible victims." Nighteye listened while taking note of the damage done to the building. Only part of the structure remained standing with one half being blown into the other, as if a typhoon passed through the area.
"Very well, Bubble Girl accompany the two officers through the back. Centipeder and I will proceed through the front." Nighteye ordered his sidekicks as he started towards what remained of the structure. Aware that with such catastrophic damage they had a long day ahead..
As the two groups searched the residence, it had become clear that something was not right. For it was not long into their investigation when Bubble Girl's group communicates through the radio, "we're going to need a clean up crew, there's a hand and blood coming from a pile of fallen debris." The first of many, as each group traversed the area more bodies were found throughout the rumble. Bringing an increasing doubt that there would be any survivors to this incident.
"This is Centipeder, we found a decapitated body near the entrance to what appears to be an underground passageway," the sidekick announced. Having come upon the body near a collapsed section of the wall, that revealed a set of stairs leading further down.
As Centipeder shared what they had found, Nighteye took a more detailed inspection of the scene they came across. Noting the dead man's white overcoat, white arrow tipped hair, and a plague doctor mask not far from the detached head's location. Lead Nighteye to the deduction that not only was this a yakuza base, but the base of the Shie Hassaikai. The yakuza group his agency has begun tracking on the suspicion of trigger production and distribution. Making this a possible planned strike instead of a random villain out for destruction.
"Centipeder, I'm going down, wait for Bubble Girl before coming down. Have the officers guard these stairs in case someone tries to escape." His orders having been given, Nighteye descends the stairs to begin his search.
As Nighteye traversed the underground hallways, it became adamantly clear to him that whoever caused this carnage had to be found and detained. What the hero found in these halls was nothing but a massacre, slashed and dismembered bodies stained the floor red and on their faces nothing could be seen but utter terror and desperation. Worse yet, everything inside any office or lab he found was slashed to pieces making any search for information nigh on impossible. After another turn Nighteye found the main subject of investigation into the Shie Hassaikai. Kai Chisaki beheaded on the floor alongside another body.
"Whoever could have done this was nothing short of a monster," turning to the voice showed Bubble Girl and Centipeder walking towards Nighteye.
"We searched the whole facility that was not blocked by rubble, nothing but bodies," Centipeder reports.
"Get the investigation crew down here, have them be as thorough as possible." Nighteye ordered. "This 'monster' needs to be taken off the streets and we will do so."
Izuku was quietly admiring a sleeping Eri on his bed, glad to see her sleeping soundly. "Don't worry little one. You'll be safe from now on." Izuku assured the sleeping girl, petting her head.
"Izu, lunch is ready!" He heard his mother call from the kitchen. "Coming."
(30 minutes later)
Izuku returns with a plate of food just in time to see Eri slowly stir awake. Deciding to give the girl a familiar face in an unfamiliar place, Midoriya transformed into his Lobo form, "Sleep well?"
With her savior crouched next to the bed, Eri leaped at Izuku the moment she recognized his furry face. Eri clung to his chest with her face buried in his fur. "Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you…"
"There, there, you're safe now pequeña." Gently petting the little girl in his arms until she calmed down. "Here, you must be hungry."
(After eating)
Once Eri had finished eating she let out a quiet yawn. "You must still be tired, rest my little pup." With Eri back asleep Izuku went into the shadows, he had someone to visit.
(Underground hidden room)
The constant beeping of a heart monitor filled the empty space not taken by an old man and the bed he lay on.
Green eyes emerged from the shadows. "Must be quite the good dream to sleep for so long." Blankly staring at the unresponsive patient. "Too bad bed time's over." Without hesitance a sickle was driven into the man's chest over his heart.
His eyes shot open with his body jolting out of bed gasping for air. The man quickly looked down at his chest feeling a metal object from reflexively bringing his hand up to his heart. His eyes once more widened from the sickle blade buried into his body. Yet no pain or blood came from the apparent lethal strike.
"Rise and shine sleeping beauty," a voice came from the man's right. Turning his head revealed a wolf man standing beside him.
"Wh-h-ho are you?" he coughed, his voice raspy from a dry throat and little use. Cautiously accepting the offered glass.
"For right now. Either your demise or your salvation from that bed and this room. What does Eri mean to you? How much do you care for little Eri?"
The man's eyes widened once more in worry before narrowing in furry. "If you laid your hands on my granddaughter the Shie Hassaikai will hunt you down and dispose of you like the stray mutt you are!"
"It seems you might leave that bed after all. I rescued her from the same man that left you bedridden."
The man's brows furrowed in contemplation trying to remember, "...Kai. No he wouldn't…" His mind recalling the argument with Chisaki and his muttered apology before his world went black.
"He would." Photos of Eri in her tattered gown and bandaged state were thrown on the bed. A phone was passed to the man with a video ready to play. "In case you believe I'm framing Kai. That was taken this morning before I rescued her." The video played security camera footage showing Eri being dragged into the room and strapped down onto a chair by members of his organization before cutting off at the sound of a whistle.
Tears ran down the grandfather's face that scrunched in fury, "I take you in and this is how you repay my generosity."
Getting the yakuza boss's attention back he spoke, "Now that you believe me, here's the deal. You will gather your members from the other locations you have and inform them of their new job."
"And that would be…?"
"Identifying and leading me to prey. To the villains that deserve death, to the victims that need to be saved. To provide a home for those that are ostracized by society. That is what they will do."
"In exchange?"
"I heal and allow you to be in Eri's life. Or if you refuse I leave you in your comatose state where you'll take your last breath without seeing your granddaughter ever again."
There was little to consider on which option was in his best interest. He answered without doubt in his voice, "The crumbs I leave will serve to protect the innocent." Before he could make sense of what was happening the world went dark, the sickle having been yanked from his chest.
"Wonderful." The figure turned to walk into the dark with his new healthy uninjured partner, slung over his shoulder. But stalled for a moment when his ear flicked back toward the door. "The rubble is clear and there's a door up ahead, Sir Nighteye," said a voice from the other side. He simply chuckled at what he heard, "So close heroes, but just a little too slow."
