I'm back!
I've managed to pass the entrance tests for my new university, and soon I'll be starting a new semester. Hopefully, the timetable I'll get from that will allow me to keep writing as I used to before.
Aside from that, here's a chapter, I managed write up in the last month or so, whenever I had the time to write in between paperwork and studying.
Hope you'll like it!

Hello, everyone.
I'm writing to all of you with a question. It isn't particularly pressing question at the moment, as nothing is set in stone, and the entire team isn't sure of this idea, yet. However, I would love to hear your opinion about it.
Would you all be interested in watching a second ATG tournament? It would be properly supported by the game, this time around.

I think a second tournament would be nice. It would be great to see what strategies people might come up with, now that the full game is out.

Where would the tournament be this time around? Would it be in Atlas, again?

I'm thinking in Vale, but I would first need to find some contacts there that would help set everything up.

If it's going to be in Vale, then I wouldn't mind attending the tournament, this time around. I would need to find a team that would take me first, but I think that's completely manageable.

The Beacon Academy was considered the best Huntsmen academy by many.
It was the pride of the entire Kingdom of Vale, and hundreds of famous Huntsmen and Huntresses graduated from it.
There were countless people who wanted to join it every year, and being a student at this academy basically guaranteed success in their very specific field of work. It was truly one of the greatest academies there was.
It was also a school of Jaune's dreams.
Despite all of that, however, he couldn't bring himself to be overly impressed by it.
Although it might have been simply because he was too busy talking to his friend in order to admire the school. The fact that both of them were currently lost in the school's massive courtyard certainly didn't help his opinion on the matter.
Ilia groaned out loud as they passed by another pillar.
"Why can't we find her, damn it!? Is she hiding or something?! I swear, it was easier for us to meet each other when she had to sneak through the entire city of Atlas than it is to find her right now." The girl complained.
Jaune could only smile wryly in response.
They really should have made a solid plan to meet somewhere before they've arrived at Beacon. If they prepared something like that, they would have easily found each other in a matter of minutes.
As it was, however, he genuinely felt like they'd been lost here for hours already.
In reality, they've been looking for Weiss for at most half an hour, but that was beside the case.
When compared to how quickly both Ilia and he had managed to spot one another on the Bullhead that flew toward Beacon, it was practically ages. The public Bullhead was small enough that every person there could easily see every other potential student in an instant.
Why couldn't Weiss have been allowed to use a public transportation system for once in her life?
It would have saved them so much time.
Jaune huffed before shaking his head.
At the very least, he should probably stay optimistic about it.
There was no point in getting angry over things like that, especially when they were already so close to finding each other anyway. At this point, almost all the hurdles in accomplishing their dreams were practically gone.
They were going to be fine.
"I'm sure we will find her soon." He said. "We've searched through almost all the directions already, and I'm certain that Weiss won't be hard to spot. You know that she probably packed a small fortune with her, right? Her baggage must be enormous."
Ilia crossed her arms.
"She better not be." The girl grumbled. "She better also have a good reason for not answering our calls, or I will give her a solid talking to when I find her. It's difficult enough to find her as it is; that girl really didn't need to make it harder for us."
Jaune chuckled a little.
Hopefully, their friend did indeed have a good excuse for that because he really didn't want to be a witness to such a thing.
He had heard enough rants about a variety of different topics during their gaming sessions; there was no need to start their academy life with them as well. It would be quite an entertaining thing to see, though.
Thankfully, it didn't take them long to find Weiss.
As luck would have it, their friend was just around the corner. The moment they'd decided to search the other side of the school—the place right before the school's biggest square—they managed to immediately spot her.
She also appeared to be engaged in quite a tiring conversation with another student, if the exhausted expression on her face were to mean anything.
The person Weiss was talking to also looked weirdly apologetic for some unknown reason. Although the other girl might have simply been a little bit awkward, instead, it was hard to tell at their distance.
At the very least, it didn't look like a fight, so everything was probably fine in the end.
Jaune turned towards Ilia with a wry smile on his face.
"I guess that's the reason she couldn't answer our calls." He said.
Ilia sighed.
"I guess it is." The girl said, although this time a smile made its way onto her face. "Let's go introduce ourselves. I'm curious about what that girl is apologising for. Weiss doesn't tend to hold grudges for no reason."
Jaune nodded.
"Yeah, let's do that."
They were going to meet Weiss anyway; they might as well meet someone new at the same time.
If things were to work out well enough, they might end up getting the fourth person to join their team, too. They could afford to be a three person team in their game, but they needed a full team of four people in their futures as Huntsmen and Huntresses.
Surely, the person Weiss was talking to would be a decent fit for their team, right?
(…)
It was a punishment for all the crimes her family committed, wasn't it?
Weiss knew that one day she would have to pay for all the harm the Schnee family caused to others. It was inevitable; the world wouldn't allow her to live as extravagantly as it did otherwise.
The fact that fate would somehow find a way to make her pay for all of that didn't come as a surprise for her; nothing good could last forever.
What did come as a surprise, however, was the method that the world used to punish her.
All her life, she thought that one day she would have to deal with losing all her fortune—maybe even ending up in a fight with her most precious friends. She didn't think she would have to deal with something like that, however.
The situation she found herself in was worse than anything she could have imagined when thinking of the consequences for her family.
She was lost on how to deal with this.
There was nothing in her entire life that would have prepared her for something like that!
"I told you, it's alright." She pleaded to her punisher. "You simply tripped and fell on my baggage. As long as you're alright and none of the Dust blew up, then everything's fine. I will simply pick all those bags and be on my way. It's fine, really."
The logic behind her argument would have been enough to convince any person of her point of view.
Any logically thinking person would see that it wasn't a big deal, accept her reasoning, and be on their way. It was the only natural course of action in a situation like this.
That logic wasn't enough to face her punisher, however.
No, the person whom fate itself deemed worthy enough to punish her has heard her entire argument and bulldozed through it like it didn't exist.
"I know! I'll simply help you drag all this baggage into the school; that would be a perfect way to make up for that fall." The red reaper in front of her said in a tone that sounded far too sure of herself.
Weiss had to hold back a groan.
Curses; she had never been taught how to deal with people who were worse at dealing with people than her!
How was it possible that there were people worse at interacting with others than her?
She was the one who was supposed to be sheltered!
"I really don't think that's necessary, Miss." She bit out.
The girl in front of her slightly tilted her head and smiled.
"You don't need to be so formal with me. You can just use my name, if you want." The red reaper said, not finding anything wrong with her words. "We are practically besties in this school, anyway. We are two normal girls who are friends and who have completely normal knees, no matter what our sisters say!"
Weiss put on a strained smile.
"I don't know your name."
The girl gasped.
"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry! I completely forgot to introduce myself. I knew I was forgetting about something!" The girl paused for a moment to take a deep breath. "My name's Ruby Rose. I hope we can be friends and maybe, potentially, be placed on the same team as we go forward?"
Ruby extended her hand forward awkwardly.
Weiss sighed.
Alright, at the very least she now had a name for the person who had been unknowingly tormenting her with her awkwardness about talking to people. She was finally getting somewhere with this.
Surely, she would be able to end this exhausting conversation soon enough.
With clear relief that things seemed to be going along quite well, she firmly grasped Ruby's hand.
Although it was probably unnecessary, she should probably introduce herself, as well.
She opened her mouth.
"Hey, Weiss! We finally found you!" A familiar voice echoed from behind the red-clothed girl before she could say anything. "Were you standing here the entire time we were looking for you!?"
Upon realising just who exactly was the person who called out to her, a wide smile appeared on Weiss's face.
Ruby, meanwhile, shook in surprise at the sudden arrivals.
"Ilia, Jaune, long time no see!" Weiss shouted.
Ilia laughed.
"It wouldn't have been that long if you had decided to sneak away and meet me once more in the last couple of years." The faunus girl said. "I would have housed you without any issues."
Weiss shook her head slightly with a pleased smile.
"You know, I couldn't do it." She said. "The security my father put on me was far too extensive to slip by after that stunt we pulled. I've told you about it plenty of times during our gaming sessions already."
Ilia huffed.
"It won't stop me from complaining about it."
Weiss and Jaune laughed in response.
"It's good to see you, Weiss." Jaune said.
Weiss nodded.
"Likewise."
At the same time she was having the emotional reunion with her friends, however, Ruby Rose—the person she had just been talking to—appeared to be lost and slightly agitated because of the higher number of people.
Apparently, the red reaper didn't do well in more public situations.
A huff escaped her.
She should probably introduce her to both her friends, she supposed.
"Ruby Rose," Weiss turned towards the red reaper. "These two are my dear friends, Jaune and Ilia. Meanwhile, I—as you probably are well aware by now—am Weiss; Weiss Schnee to be exact."
Ruby nodded her head rapidly.
"Ilia, Jaune, and Weiss; got it." The girl said.
A smile formed on Weiss's face.
It seemed that her new acquaintance was finally done with apologising to her for a thing she honestly didn't really consider to be a big deal anymore. She was extremely pleased with that.
"We should probably start moving, though." Ilia remarked. "I'm pretty sure that there will be some sort of introductory speech today. We've already wasted quite a bit of time looking for you, and I'm pretty sure none of us here want to be late for something like that."
Weiss and Ruby froze in place.
"We've been here for how long?" Ruby asked in absolute shock.
Without wasting any time, the younger girl quickly picked up a couple of briefcases before turning towards the Beacon's school building and rapidly disappearing in a flurry of rose petals.
Weiss, Ilia and Jaune could only stare dumbly as they watched disappear into the distance.
"D-Did she just run towards the school with your baggage?" Ilia asked.
Weiss nodded slowly.
"She did."
Ilia stood silent for a moment.
"Why?" The faunus girl asked.
Weiss shrugged.
"I have no idea."
Ilia sighed.
Jaune chuckled.
"We should probably follow after her." The boy said.
Weiss and Ilia nodded their heads.
With no more reasons to stay here, they quickly split Weiss's baggage among each other and started heading towards Beacon.
(...)
It was great to finally see both her friends again.
Sure, they always did hear each other during their gaming sessions, but it simply didn't compare to seeing both of them in person at the same time. These were two completely different types of experiences.
Ilia had missed seeing her friends like that so much.
They really should have met up in person a couple more times before Beacon.
The wait for the Huntsmen academy to start wouldn't have been so agonising if they did something like that.
It really was a pity that they couldn't have done that.
A wide smile made its way onto her face.
Fortunately, that wait was finally over, and they could finally be together. There was nothing that could separate them now, and even if they were to somehow end up on different teams, they would be able to meet each other with no issues.
The next four years were going to be great!
"The baggage you're holding isn't too heavy for you, is it?" Weiss asked suddenly. "I didn't actually think you would be helping me drag it around, so I didn't bother to weigh it properly."
Ilia laughed a little and shook her head.
The fact that her friend would have bothered to weigh her baggage in the first place—if she knew that they were going to help her—was quite amusing to her.
It sounded like such an unnecessary effort.
"Of course it isn't." Ilia said. "If anything, your baggage seems to be suspiciously light. What have you packed here, anyway? It doesn't feel like it's full of clothes or other necessities."
Weiss hummed a little.
"It's because it isn't. The briefcase you're holding mostly has some vials of refined Dust and a few of my secondary debit cards."
Ilia paused.
"It's not too expensive, is it?" She couldn't help but ask.
She was certain that her friend wouldn't force her to pay anything if something happened to the briefcase she was holding. However, she would still feel rather guilty if she accidentally caused her friend to lose more money than she herself spent in a year.
Sure, it might not actually be worth that much, but she would rather not risk it.
There was no way to tell what sort of money a rich person like Weiss would consider as significant or not, especially when talking about things like secondary debit cards.
What are even secondary debit cards supposed to be used for?
Weiss chuckled a little.
"Don't worry, it's nothing important." The girl said. "If you want, you can actually keep some of them; I wouldn't mind giving it to you. The friendship I have with you is far more important than this."
Ilia sniffled a little.
"Weiss-"
A loud cough suddenly interrupted her.
Ilia turned around to see who bothered to interrupt her conversation with Weiss.
It was a girl their age—most likely another potential student at the academy—with clothes that were almost entirely black and white, as well as quite a suspicious-looking ribbon on top of her head.
The girl also looked quite attractive if Ilia were to be completely honest with herself.
"Can I help you with something?" She asked.
"I-Uhm." The girl paused for a moment. "Yes, I would like to talk with you for a moment, if you wouldn't mind."
Ilia couldn't help but raise her eyebrow a little at the strange girl.
Okay, that was unusual.
Did she gain a fan or something when she wasn't looking? She didn't remember ever interacting with a girl like that before. That girl didn't seem like someone she would have forgotten that easily.
She turned towards her friends with a slightly confused expression on her face.
They looked about as confused as she was.
After a moment of awkward silence, Jaune finally huffed a little in exasperation before picking up the baggage she was holding.
"I'll take this from you, then." The boy said. "We will wait for you near the entrance. Don't take too long here, or you might miss some things, alright? We still have no idea whether there will be any important matters we will have to attend today or not."
Ilia nodded.
Both her friends left towards the building.
Ilia turned back towards the girl with a ribbon on her head.
"Alright, we can talk." She said.
The girl looked quite relieved the moment she saw that Weiss was no longer with them. It was almost like she had expected something bad to happen as long as the Schnee heiress was among them.
"Good," The girl said in a serious manner. "I just want to warn you."
A frown appeared on Ilia's face.
"Warn me?" She asked.
The girl quickly nodded her head.
"Yes, I want to warn you about your so-called friend." The girl said. "You shouldn't trust or associate yourself with her. She's the heiress to one of the most cruel and anti-faunus corporations in the world. That girl is going to use your trust to its fullest and then discard you like some sort of trash once you're no longer useful to her. Trust me, I've seen what her family does to people like you."
Ilia couldn't help but tighten her fist a little in response.
Oh, so that's what it was about.
She should have expected that it was something like that; she was friends with Weiss Schnee. It seemed that no matter the kingdom, her friend's family was still as infamous as ever.
Apparently, it was impossible for anyone to know about the Schnee family without also knowing that they were extremely anti-faunus.
Of course, since she was a faunus, the people were going to assume that she's simply unaware of that and then try to somehow help her, while completely unaware of what was really going on.
A sigh escaped her.
It was going to be quite an issue in the future, wasn't it?
Well, she supposed that right now was a perfect chance to get some experience in dealing with situations like these.
She would need to learn how to handle things like that at some point, anyway.
"Look, I know that you're trying to look out for me here, but it's completely unnecessary. Weiss is one of my best friends, and I know she wouldn't harm me in any way." She said. "In fact, I believe that you might get along with her too if you get to know her well enough."
The girl frowned.
"You don't understand-"
Ilia raised her hand, interrupting the girl.
"No, I understand completely." She said. "Trust me, I know that her family did quite a lot of terrible things; my own parents were the casualties of that family's crimes. However, I think it's stupid to pretend that my friend had anything to do with it, especially since she was just a child when most of those atrocities happened. There's no reason to blame her for any crimes of her family."
The girl in front of her tightened her fists, clearly starting to get annoyed.
"She still benefitted from all those crimes!" The girl shouted. "You can't tell me that she's innocent when the only reason she got to live that privileged life of hers is because countless faunus suffered!"
Ilia sighed again.
"She couldn't do anything to prevent this suffering." She said. "If she could, then you can have my assurance that she would have surely done something. Weiss is as innocent as any person in her position could be."
The girl gritted her teeth.
"She could have done something!"
Ilia looked at the girl with pity in her eyes.
It was obvious that the girl was personally invested in the crimes of the Schnee family. The sheer anger and disdain the ribbon girl appeared to hold towards this issue wouldn't have made sense otherwise.
"You have suffered at Jacques Schnee's hand, haven't you?" She asked.
The girl looked stunned for a moment.
"W-Wha-" The girl stuttered.
"That's why you're hiding your faunus trait behind that ribbon, isn't it?" Ilia continued. "Did something happen to your ears? Is the reason you're covering them some injury that you don't want people to see?"
The girl looked at her angrily.
"It isn't!" The girl protested.
Ilia looked at the girl for a moment before a frown made its way onto her face.
"Don't tell me that you're hiding your ears because of some other reason." She said. "Are you hiding them because you don't want people to think you are a faunus at all? Is it because you were possibly a White Fang mem-"
The girl interrupted her by forcefully grabbing her by the collar.
"Don't try to talk about me like that." The girl bit out. "You know absolutely nothing about me."
Ilia looked at the ribbon girl with a gaze almost as cold as the one she was receiving.
"You don't know anything about my friends and me, either." She said while pushing the girl back. "Don't butt your head into things you know nothing about. You will only make a fool out of yourself."
The girl scoffed.
A tense moment passed in silence as they stared at each other, and it wasn't until a good half a minute or so had passed that the situation resolved itself by the girl leaving and heading towards the school.
Ilia sighed as she watched the girl disappear into the school.
She really hoped that girl wasn't going to end up as their fourth teammate.
There was no need to make their four years at Beacon any more tense than they ought to be.
(...)
The interior of Beacon Academy was remarkable.
It wasn't as lavish or as absurdly imposing as the Schnee manor was, but it certainly left a good impression. In fact, Weiss was pretty sure that the less imposing atmosphere around the school actually made the impression this school had on her far better.
As far as she was concerned, the less this academy reminded her of home, the more she would enjoy staying here.
A small smile formed on her face.
The school year hasn't even started yet, and she was already looking forward to living in this place.
Although, she would first need to see the rooms they would be staying at before she could form a full opinion of this place. It wasn't rare for institutions like these to put on a good front during the introduction while actually being nowhere near as impressive as they appeared to be.
Still, when it came to first impressions, Beacon worked wonders.
Her friend seemed to be smitten by it, if the way he was looking around the place were to mean anything.
"Is Beacon as incredible as you imagined it, Jaune?" She asked.
Jaune smiled as he looked around with wonder in his eyes.
"It is." The boy admitted. "I'm currently searching for our new socially awkward friend, though. We wouldn't want to lose her and a good part of your baggage before the first day of Beacon even started, would we?"
Weiss blinked.
Right, she completely forgot about that.
She should probably be looking for that younger girl, as well.
There was no telling just where that red reaper could have ended up after rushing towards the school in the way she did.
Seriously, what sort of person used their semblance to rush into a public place like that?
Did that girl never have any lessons on Huntsman's and Huntress's public responsibility?
It was common knowledge for anyone who trained to be a Huntress; she was sure of that. She had entire classes for that specific topic, and she even taught it to her friends afterwards. There was no way that girl hadn't been taught things like that.
They should find her quickly.
"Can you see her?" She asked.
Jaune hummed.
"I think I can." The boy pointed in a direction. "She seems to be talking to that blonde girl over there. They are making quite a scene. Do you want to go there and get your baggage back?"
Weiss nodded.
If they already knew where the girl was, there was no reason for them to delay any further. They would just go there and retrieve her briefcases. It's not like the girl was trying to steal her baggage, after all.
"Yeah, let's go." She said.
"I'll wait here, near the entrance, in case Ilia comes back while you talk to them." Jaune said, before they could leave.
Weiss looked at her friend for a moment and let out a sigh.
It was probably the smart decision on her friend's part, considering that they did tell Ilia that they would wait for her near the entrance. One of them really should wait for her here, and she agreed with that wholeheartedly.
She hesitated for a moment.
The problem was that she really didn't want to deal with that red reaper on her own.
Jaune looked at her with a smile.
Weiss grumbled quietly.
If the simple action of retrieving her bags turned into an endless barrage of apologies and poorly thought out ways to compensate her once again, she was going to blame her friend for that, for sure.
With a silent and completely contained dread, she slowly made her way toward the pair of girls.
As she neared them, however, she started to hear laughter from one of them—the blonde specifically.
"It's not funny, Yang!" Ruby protested.
The blonde—whose name was apparently Yang—continued laughing.
"It is, though." Yang said in between her laughter. "I can't believe that you have already managed to make three friends here, and the first thing you did for them was steal their bags. Did they not tell you anything as you ran off with them?"
Ruby groaned.
"I couldn't hear; I was rushing with my semblance." The younger girl mumbled.
Yang laughed harder.
"I'll find them, okay?" Ruby said tiredly. "They were coming here, as well. If I look for them carefully enough, I'll find them and return their bags easily. I will probably have to apologise for accidentally stealing them, though."
"It's alright; we're already here." Weiss said.
Ruby let out a squeal in surprise.
Weiss couldn't help but raise her eyebrow a little.
Was Ruby seriously so unaware of the situation around her that she didn't even notice her?
If she was, then that girl really needed to work on her situational awareness. It wasn't like she was trying to get here sneakily; such a bad perception could end badly for her in their future careers.
Yang snorted.
"So, you're the girl that handled my sister in my absence." The blonde remarked. "I have to say, you don't look like someone who could handle Ruby's energy. You look more like a spoilt princess type of person, to be honest. Still, thanks for not getting too angry at her."
"Yang..." Ruby whined.
Weiss looked at the blonde girl.
The fact that these two girls were sisters surprised her a little; they certainly didn't look related. There probably was something more to that relationship of theirs, but she wasn't going to pry.
There was no need for her to butt her head into the lives of others.
"You're welcome." She said curtly. "Your sister is full of energy, for sure. Although I did not expect to see someone clearly younger than the rest of the students able to attend Beacon like that. How did she manage to accomplish that?"
A wide smile made its way onto Yang's face.
"It's because my sister's special." Yang said with clear pride in her voice. "She even managed to impress the headmaster Ozpin himself with her skills."
Ruby let out a quiet whine.
Weiss turned towards the younger girl, seeing her in a completely new light.
"Impressive." She said.
"Please, stop." Ruby complained. "I'm just a normal girl like the both of you. I have no bee's knees, nor is there anything special about me. In fact, I actually have completely normal knees that have nothing special about them at all."
Weiss tilted her head to the side in confusion.
What did knees, of all things, have to do with anything related to their discussion?
She turned towards Yang with a confused look.
Yang shrugged.
Before she could question the girl further, however, a reverb from a microphone suddenly echoed throughout the entire room.
Weiss turned towards the source of the noise.
It looked like headmaster Ozpin was about to make a speech.
"I'll keep this brief." The headmaster started. "You have travelled here today in search of knowledge—to hone your craft and acquire new skills. And when you have finished, you plan to dedicate your life to the protection of the people. But I look amongst you, and all I see is wasted energy in need of purpose – direction. You assume knowledge will free you of this, but your time at this school will prove that knowledge can only carry you so far. It is up to you to take the first step."
With those words said, the headmaster finished his speech and swiftly made his way out of the room, leaving them to their own devices.
Weiss let out a hum.
It certainly was an interesting speech. She wouldn't be pretentious and say that she could have made a better one, but it didn't really have that big of an effect on her, especially when compared to some other potential students around her.
Although it might have been on purpose.
There's no telling what the real goal of such a speech was when a person like Headmaster Ozpin was the one giving it.
A quiet sigh escaped.
It didn't matter.
She didn't need to treat everything the people older than her did as a lesson anymore; it wasn't her mansion. It was time for her to live her life, become an incredible huntress with her friends, and maybe play some competitive games with them whenever they had enough free time.
They simply needed to find a fourth person to join their team first, though.
And cut!
If you found some weird formatting, or more grammatical errors than usual, it's because the program I always use to double check my fics was updated recently and seems to be having some issues at the moment.
The next chapter will be the initiation day, and maybe team forming already, depending on how much detail I will go into for it.
Also, not sure when will the next chapter be yet; I don't have the timetable for my new university yet.
Anyway, that's it for now, see ya.
