Smoke fires up on the dual field as Lysithea appears on her side of the field while Chriss announces "Now entering the arena, the little dualist who could, the pint sized prodigy, Lysithea!" The crowd cheers for her.
Lysithea puts on her dual disc and thinks to herself 'Okay Lysithea, nothing to worry about. Just the biggest dual of your life on national television.' She looks to the crowd and smiles thinking. 'Huh, I wonder if Blaze is watching.' Indeed in the competitor breakroom Blaze was watching.
Chris then announces "And now for her opponent. The doctor of the deck. The brain of the game and fear, Dr. Johnathan Crane otherwise known as The Scarecrow!" As Crane's image appears on the orb screen Chris explained "He's got a PHD in Psychology, Hypnology and Dualology! So Lysithea better look out!"
Lysithea then sees smoke come from the opposite end of the field as Crane appears, however he was holding onto the scarecrow mask as he steps forward he puts the mask on. He then bows to Lysithea and said "Pleased to meet you, dear Lysithea."
"Um…hi." Lysithea said not sure what else to say.
Crane stands straight and said "I've heard many things about you. I'm sure this dual will be quite illuminating for the both of us, don't you think?"
'Doubt it' Lysithea thinks concerned, she then hears a soft cry in her mind coming from her deck 'Huh?! Kuribon! Why don't you ever talk when Caspar is around?'
"Now, let's get dualling!" Chris announces. This gets Lysithea's attention as she activates her Dual Disc as does Crane "Remember, only the winner advances, the loser is out for good."
"Let's dual!" Both Crane and Lysithea said and both start with 4000 Life Points.
"Like a blooming lotus, you may go first." Crane tells Lysithea, letting her have the first move.
"Sure, fine. I draw!" Lysithea says as she drew a card and looks at it then reveals it to be a level 1 fairy like creature in an orange and yellow outfit with 300 ATK and 400 DEF. She said "And I summon Sunny Pixie in defence mode!" The monster appears with a giggle and is the actual size of a pixie as it goes blue to indicate it's in defence mode.
"Awww a fairy that's adorable." Iroh said with a smile.
"Keep it up, Lysithea!" Caspar called out.
"Your turn Dr. Crane." Lytithea told him.
"And I look forward to it, but you are free to just refer to me as Scarecrow for this match. Thank you." Crane said smiling and drew his card and shows it which was a level 3 monster that looked to be an inkblot test with 1200 ATK and DEF as he said "I summon a unique monster known as Symmetry Rorschach." He plays it and the monster emerges from the card resembling a butterfly it was almost like a spirit with how it looked and moved.
Lysithea looking at it thinks 'That card won't let me focus'
"Lysithea, think of my Rorschach as if it were a puddle of rain or a drop of ink in a lake." Crane tells her smiling under his mask. "Look at it and tell me what you see? Tell me if it reminds you of anything? Look into your fears, your dreams. Even memories lost long ago. What do you see when you gaze into the abyss? A friend perhaps? Your family? Or maybe a far-off place dimming like the candle of time?"
"I…I see…" Lysithea said focusing on Symmetry Rorschach going into almost a trance.
'Yes, tell me Lysithea. What do you see?' Crane thinks watching her.
"I don't know." Lysithea admits saddened.
"Look close." Crane said smirking as the eyes of the mask in Lysithea's mind at least light up and his voice sounded a bit demonic but to everyone else he still looks normal. "Close, close. What do you see?"
"It's a Crystal Skull I think!" Iroh said smiling.
"A moth." Ashe said proudly.
'This doctor is a few cards short of a dual deck. What's he doing to Lysithea?' Caspar thinks concerned looking at his Step-Sister.
"Look, close, Lysithea. Close." Crane told her. Lysithea nervously looks at Symmetry Rorschach "Look closely, what do you see, Lysithea?"
"Um, I see…" Lysithea said and in her mind the Rorschach monster changes shape and resembles her Sunny Pixie "Huh, a fairy." Indeed it looked like Sunny Pixie only was blond and wore all blue. The fairy then turned creepy and the head changes to that of a purple shadowy creature.
"What do you see?" Crane asked as the monster as it unleashes a power shout like attack that destroys Sunny Pixie and making Lysithea scream at that. Crane then sighs and said "Like the Catapiller who secludes itself in darkness before becoming a butterfly you must face your fears. You must face your memories and live through them again. Do not be scared."
"But I'm afraid." Lysithea told him.
"You must be brave enough to relive what happened many years ago." Crane tells her "I know you have great power dear Lysithea. I know you hear the Dual Spirits, other may not believe you but I do/ I'll help you return to that place, the Dual Monsters Spirit World. Yes, it was all real and not some figment of your imagination Lysithea."
"I'm…I'm starting to remember, Scarecrow." Lysithea tells him falling again into a trance.
"I know you are but for our next step you need to trust me Lysithea. Can you do that?" Crane tells her "I need…I need you to want to return to the Dual Spirit World. I need your promise Lysithea."
"I promise Scarecrow, take me back." Lysithea said in a complete trance.
"Very good, now follow my instructions." Crane said smiling under his mask "When Symmetry Rorschach dispatched of your fairy it's special ability continued." As he explained his monster goes bigger and an eye forms out as Cranes mask eyes glow again and his voice goes demonic again "Would you kindly turn over the top card of your deck and reveal it."
Lysithea nervously pulls the top card and reveals it is a level one monster of a brown furball creature with green eyes and a tail with a red bow, with 300 ATK and 200 DEFit in Lysitha's head made the same cry she heard before the dual started. She smiles and said "Kuribon"
"Thank you for identifying your monster." Crane said with a smile "He will be most helpful for the next stage of our little experiment. Now I need you to think back to that scary time when you were in your coma. Try to remember."
Lysithea looks over at the stands to where Caspar is and thinks 'I've tried before but I can't. There's nothing I remember from it.'
She then flashes back where she sees her parents looking at her, their appearances blacked out but she hears Caspar crying out worried "Lysithea! Lysithea! Wake up!"
Lysithea in realization said "I'm remembering..."
Caspar watching this was concerned, Ashe seeing him said "Caspar, you look sick."
"I'm worried about Lysithea, Ashe." Caspar tells his friend "What's he doing?"
"I place two cards face down." Crane said doing just that "It's your turn. Don't be scared Lysithea."
"Ah!" Lysithea said and gets back into the dual and draws "I draw." She sees it was Kuribon which she knew as she had to flip the top card earlier. "And I summon out Kuribon." She places it and the Kuribo variant comes happily bouncing out in Attack mode.
The AI Tutorial plays to explain Kuribon as the voice said "Kuribon is a Level 1 light attribute fairy type monster with 300 Attack points and 200 Defence points."
Crane smiles under his mask and said "That's perfect. I play my face down." He shows a trap card depicting a dualist on a narrow path, ahead of him was a bright light with a pink phoenix-like creature flying to it "It is known as Light to the Depths. Like the Northan Star, this light illuminates the path inside of you."
"Now send the top five cards on your deck to the Graveyard, then reveal the sixth card adding it to you hand." Crane explained as a light hits Lysithea's head shining in her eyes "And you must play that card as certain as the path of light itself or suffer 2000 points of damage." Lysithea's iris' fade as she falls completely into his hypnosis.
"Now then, why don't we begin." Crane said his eyes glowing and voice demonic again in Lysithea's head "Listen to my voice as we count them off." Lysithea begins to draw the card and place the first five into her graveyard "And one, perfect. Two, three, four, five and six." His Light of Depth card glows "Wonderful, now show me. What's the card you're holding in your hand?" Lysithea shows the sixth card was a spell card depicting a forest "Ah, as I had hoped. The field spell Ancient Forest. You will use it"
Lysithea still under Crane's control obeys and places the spell in the field spell slot of her dual disc and grom the ground around the field trees begin to rise.
"This forest is quite a special place." Crane said smiling "All monsters are switched to attack mode and neither of us can summon or switch a monster to defence. Even if you were to attack your monster would be destroyed once the battle was over." He chuckles and then adds "Some say this forest resembles…someplace else. Fighting forbidden, secrets revealed. Why it's just like the Spirit World." The forest appears in Lystithea's eyes "Take us there now, we have work to do."
Well Crane seems to be running the dual as he hypnotises Lysithea, let's see what happens next.
