Chapter 19
Rescue Gone Awry
Suddenly there was a massive explosion of bright light. Goblins went flying from the shockwaves that ripped through Goblin Town and those who had been fighting went flying as well.
Aranduriel groaned as she was thrown closer to the Great Goblin. Too close for her own good. She was trying her best to get her eyes to adjust after that bright light.
The light returned to the person that had conjured it. It was none other than Gandalf. He had Glamdring out.
The dwarves and Aranduriel looked up in bewilderment. They were saved. They were going to be getting out of here and hopefully they would be getting out of there alive.
"Take up arms. Fight. Fight!" Gandalf yelled to the dwarves.
The dwarves began to get up to fight back against the goblins who were holding them captive in this dangerous place.
The goblin king looked from his spot on the ground, not moving. "He wields the Foe-Hammer, the Beater, bright as daylight!" He shouted.
Aranduriel tried to get up, but she felt the grubby meaty hand of the Goblin King wrap around her middle. Well that wasn't good. Not in the least bit.
The dwarves began to fight back. They got their weapons back to fight back as much as they could so they could continue on their way.
The goblins ran towards Gandalf. But Gandalf was slicing through them without any problems.
Oin was able to retrieve his hearing trumpet although it had been ruined by the goblins.
Nori fell to the ground. "Thorin!" He yelled calling to the dwarf king warning him that the goblin king was heading his way swinging his mace.
Thorin jumped forward and deflected the great goblin's blow. Thorin's eyes widened when he heard a shriek. He could tell by the pitch that it was the only female companion of the group. He watched in horror as his friend Aranduriel had been taken by the stumbling great goblin down to the depths below.
"NO!" Fili yelled.
"No Fili!" Thorin yelled.
"We can't." Fili yelled.
"We must! She will find her way out."
"Follow me. Quick! Run!" Gandalf ordered the company to follow him so they could escape from being killed in the depths of the mountain.
Fili grabbed Aranduriel's clothing, shoving them into her bag. He slung it over his shoulder knowing that she would need it later. He just hoped that his uncle was not wrong about Aranduriel joining them. He couldn't lose her. Not now. He was trying to figure out what he actually felt towards her.
The dwarves followed Gandalf's orders and followed the grey wizard towards their escape from the mountain.
AUJAUJ
Aranduriel felt the air whip around her and the great goblin as they fell into the depths of the mountain. She hated feeling weightless.
Thump! All she felt was pain. That really did hurt a lot.
"Get me the chains!" The great goblin demanded a few of the goblins that were down here in the depths with them.
Aranduriel felt her fear begin to rise. This wasn't going to end well for her. Was this going to be the end of her? No! Not like this. She couldn't allow this to happen. She struggled against the great goblin.
His meaty hand tightened against her soft flesh most likely bruising the soft pale flesh that was hidden underneath the scrappy fabric that she had on.
The goblins did as they were told. They brought the chains like their king had asked them to.
The great goblin puts a chain around her neck, wrists, and ankles. He laughed looking at her. He pulled the chain causing her to gasp for air when she felt the chain tighten around her neck.
Valar it hurt. She felt tears come to her eyes. She had to be strong. She could only hope that she would be reunited with the company and Gandalf.
"You aren't going anywhere, my pet. This is the last place that you will see in your immortal life." He said with a sickening smile.
Aranduriel swallowed the lump that had formed in her throat. She could only hope that the great goblin would take her with him if he had decided to go after the company. She could just only hope that. Sadly she was scared that he wouldn't and she would die here. She would lose all her strength to carry on. That was one of the things that she feared. It was almost the same thing that her mother had to face. It was the one thing that she never wanted to be in.
"You are going to never make it out of here alive." His smile only got worse. Sickening and sarcastic. He pulled her close to him. "But before that I think I will kill your companions."
Aranduriel's eyes widened. No. That meant that their travels would probably end here. No one would make it out of there alive.
He pulled on the chains causing her to gasp for air again. "And you will be coming with me." He began to drag her along with him. He knew where they would be trying to get away.
AUJAUJ
"Jump!" Thorin yelled as the pathway swung to another path.
Some of them were able to jump before the path swung back it had started and some goblins had jumped on . They were able to fight the goblins off before being able to jump to the rest of the company that were waiting for them.
Fili cut the ropes before landing hard on his feet following his friends. His mind was on Aranduriel. He was hoping that she was alright wherever she was.
Soon they approached a bridge to hopefully get out of there, but the bridge cracked and the great goblin popped up holding tightly onto the chain that was wrapped around Aranduriel.
Fili's eyes widened. He didn't like what he had seen. It was bad to see Aranduriel tied up in chains.
"You thought you could escape me?" The great goblin said. "I told the missy here that she will never be able to leave here." A sinister smile came to the great goblin's lip. He swung his mace twice at Gandalf causing the grey wizard to stumble back. "What are you going to do now, wizard?"
Gandalf leaped forward striking the great goblin in the eye with his staff.
"Ow ow ow!"
Aranduriel felt her feet hit the ground. At least she wasn't dangling up in the air like she was before.
"Ara catch!" Fili yelled, tossing her a sword.
Aranduriel caught the sword that was thrown at her by Fili. She turned sharply. Her gray blue eyes narrowing at the disgusting form of the goblin king.
Gandalf then sliced the great goblin's belly.
The great goblin fell to his knees. "That'll do it."
Aranduriel and Gandalf then swung together at his neck, slicing it, silencing the goblin king forever.
The great goblin fell forward.
Gandalf used his staff to release Aranduriel from her bonds.
Aranduriel rubbed her wrists that were already purple. Her ankles and neck were probably discolored the same color as her wrists were.
The boards shook beneath them.
Aranduriel looked down and could see that the boards were cracking due to the weight of the great goblin that was now dead.
The bridge ended up collapsing and down the side of the cavern they went. The bridge crashed into things breaking them as they went down the side. The dwarves, Gandalf, and Aranduriel were gripping onto the bridge tightly and screaming in terror. Finally the bridge came to a slow down and crashed at the base of the cavern.
Wood cracked around them making more of a mess.
Aranduriel groaned as she felt someone's weight on her which was none other than Gandalf.
"Well that could have been worse." Bofur said.
Crash! The heavy corpse of the great goblin landed on them to groan.
"You've got to be joking!" Dwalin groaned out.
Gandalf got up and dusted himself off. He held his hand out to Aranduriel to get her out of the rubble.
Aranduriel took his hand and he pulled her out of the rubble.
Kili looked up and saw that they were in trouble. "Gandalf!"
"There's too many! We can't fight them." Dwalin said, looking up.
"Gandalf." Aranduriel said for the first time in a while sounding scared.
"Only one thing will save us, daylight. Come on! Here, on your feet!" Gandalf said.
Aranduriel grabbed Fili's hand and pulled him up while the others were scrambling to get out of the rubble.
"You alright?" He asked her to try to look over her.
"No time for that." She told him.
The company followed Gandalf out of there.
"There's light!" Kili yelled. He never thought that he would be so happy to see the sunlight.
Aranduriel let out a sigh of relief. She was happy to see the sunlight as well.
They ran down over the mountainside.
Gandalf began to count them. "Five, six, seven, eight…. Bifur, Bofur… that's ten…. Fili, Kili, that's twelve…. Bombur and Aranduriel… that makes fourteen…" Gandalf looked around for their missing companion. "Where's Biblo? Where is our hobbit? Where is our Hobbit?!"
Aranduriel saw her bag with Fili. "Fili… can I have my bag?"
Fili looked at Aranduriel and his face flushed. He nodded his head and gave her her bag back.
Aranduriel took her bag and went behind a few of the trees that were thicker to cover herself while she changed back into her clothes that she was in before. Her body protested with her movements, but that was the least of her concerns at that moment. She wanted to make sure that she was dressed and not giving the dwarves an eye full of flesh that they didn't need to see.
"Where is our hobbit?" Gandalf asked again.
"Curse the halfling! Now he's lost?!" Dwalin said scoffing.
"I thought he was with Dori." Gloin said, looking at the strongest dwarf of the company.
"Don't blame me." Dori shouted.
"Well, where did you last see him?" Gandalf asked again.
"I think I saw him slip away, when they first collared us." Nori told Gandalf.
Aranduriel came out fully dressed leaving the poor excuse for clothes behind.
"What happened exactly? Tell me!"
"I'll tell you what happened." Thorin said.
Aranduriel looked at Thorin. She wanted to know what he was going to say.
"Master Baggins saw his chance and he took it! He's thought of nothing, but his soft bed and his warm hearth since first he stepped out of his door. We will not be seeing our Hobbit again. He's long gone."
"Thorin." Aranduriel hissed out.
Thorin turned and looked at her. "And you should have never left Rivendell. You are more trouble than what you are worth."
