Weakness is sleep: Thank you.
DJ Rodriguez: Thank you. And you are right, no solid Monsterverse elements in this story.
Yes, Yamane is from the first two Godzilla movies.
Yeah, I learned of his passing the day I saw Godzilla Minus One last year in theaters.
And yep, there is a language translator for Hiccup.
LORD DESTRYUK: You might be right about Mildew. But I got something in store for him.
Introducing Kiryu as a dragon? That's actually a good way to go about it.
Now then, with that said and done.
On with the story!
Chapter 15: A Stranger In A Strange Land
Meanwhile, back in the Barbaric Archipelago
Two days after Hiccup's 'disappearance.'
Stoick stands in the Great Hall before his wooden throne. He looks over many intricate maps of Berk. Men mill around him, reporting of areas they have scouted in their search parties. But no matter what, they all say the same thing. They've found nothing.
Stoick turns to Burnthair. "What about the men we sent to scout the Isle of the Bog Burglars?" he asked. "Have they found anything?"
Burnthair shakes his head with a regretful expression. "Nothing, Chief."
Stoick sighs in response, removes his helmet and slams it on the stone hearth in front of him. The large Viking stares at the maps again before picking up his helmet and walks out to the doors. Gobber sees him walk and follows after him.
"You going out again?" the two-limbed blacksmith asked.
"There are some caves on the western side I haven't checked since yesterday," Stoick replied as he grabbed a torch from the wall. "It was too close to twilight to see. I have a torch now."
"Let me come with you," Gobber spoke.
Stoick shakes his head. He appreciates the offer. "No, you need to stay as Acting Chief."
Gobber gestures to Stoick's brother. "Spitelout can-"
"Gobber, please, I don't have time for this." Stoick interrupted him before he opens the doors and the two come face to face with Mildew's scowling face.
Gobber recoils in disgust. "Eugh."
An appropriate reaction. Mildew is hideous.
Stoick narrows his eyes in frustration. He's not in the mood for Mildew and his complaints.
"This is getting ridiculous, Stoick." Mildew said.
"Mildew, if you have a gripe, turn it to Gobber," Stoick says, ignoring Gobber's scowl behind him. "I'm busy."
He moves to walk around the elder but Mildew steps in front of him, his sheep Fungus under his arm. "The village is lying dead, Stoick! This can't go on. There's no one in the stalls, no one baking the bread or bringing in fish or-"
"Mildew," Stoick tries to speak but the lanky old man continues over him, shoving Fungus into his vision. He looks at the sheep in distaste. "Fungus needs his soap, Stoick. He gets fleas."
"Ah wonder where he gets 'em from," Gobber muttered to Stoick but loud enough for the orney elder to hear.
Stoick sighs. This is getting more tiresome. "Mildew-"
"But because of your endless search parties, there's no one to attend the apothecary," Mildew went on. "And no one to sell an old man the soap for his sheep!"
Ugh, I can barely stand this guy. I should feed him to a Kaiju. Anyone think of one that might handle something so gamy?
"Mildew! My son is missing." Stoick snapped at the elder, pushing him aside with his hand. "He might be hurt and starving in the woods. He might be taken to Outcast Island. A dragon might have. . . Hiccup might be. . . " he trails off before glaring down at the elder. "And you want to make demands for your soap?"
Several Vikings nearby glare at the elder who ignores them all. "I'm only saying, Stoick, that we-"
Astrid walked over to the maps of Berk that Stoick was studying. She quietly studies the map before her eyes land on one of the areas that wasn't searched through yet. Raven Point. Silently, she leaves the Great Hall with Fishlegs in tow.
Astrid and Fishlegs trek through the woods in Raven Point, the former carrying a torch. "Uh, why couldn't we wait until sunrise for this?" Fishlegs asked in a whimper as he looked up a tree that was split down the middle. It looked unnerving for the large Ingerman teen.
"Because Hiccup might be injured and might not have until Sunrise," Astrid replied. She studies the split tree with narrowed eyes. She looks to see a trench in the dirt and soil. Something crashed through the tree and left a trench like the one she was seeing.
"Come on," she said, following the trench. Fishlegs looks around at the shadows around him before whimpering and then he's running after Astrid.
The two continue through the forest before coming across a rocky cove with a large pond in the middle. Astrid looked around and walked down a rocky path down to the cove, Fishlegs following but with hesitation in his steps.
Astrid then sees a shield wedged between two boulders. She furrowed her brows before ducking under it. She walks less than four steps before hearing a noise behind her.
The blonde shield maiden turns around and sees Fishlegs was stuck underneath the shield and he tries to force himself out before he rolls out and skids on the dirt.
Astrid rolls her eyes and turns ahead. She sees footprints in boots close to her size. "He was definitely here."
Fishlegs picks himself up. "What if we don't find him on the island?" he asked.
"Then Stoick will have us look for him at the other islands." Astrid replied without missing a beat nor taking her eyes off of the bootprints on the ground. "And when we find him, you are going to tell the chief that Hiccup didn't blow up the armory." she added. "Don't try to deny it, I know he didn't and neither do you."
Fishlegs grimaced but accepted. "Okay." He lowers his gaze to the ground. He opened his mouth to say something before he spotted weird shiny shards of obsidian on the ground. He reaches down to pick them up only to feel that they weren't rocks but scales. Dragon scales.
"Fishlegs, get over here," Astrid suddenly called out from where she stood. "Come look at this."
Fishlegs walked over and saw a group of footprints in the dirt next to Hiccup's bootprints. "Dragon tracks," Astrid whispered.
"But what kind of dragon?" Fishlegs asked. "These are too narrow for a Gronckle, too broad for Zippleback feet and too big for a Terror. The talons are too short and thick for a Nightmare." he holds up the dragon scales in his hands. "And look."
Astrid takes a scale and holds up to her torch for inspection. She looks to Fishlegs. "Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" the husky Viking teen asked in dread. "Because what I'm thinking is pretty gory and not at all pleasant."
Astrid narrowed her eyes as she looked around. With how good at Dragon Training he had gotten, she doubts Hiccup had wandered into a cove where a dangerous unknown dragon would be residing in. So that led to three scenarios.
Scenario one: based on how old the bootprints seemed, Hiccup must have frequented this cove, most likely where he went after class. A dragon must have found him and ambushed him. That wasn't a pleasant thought.
Scenario two: It wasn't a dragon, but Outcasts arranging it to seem as if a dragon had taken Hiccup.
Scenario three: Unlikely, but plausible. Given that there are supplies missing, Hiccup's items were taken from his room, he may not have been here in this cove and the dragon had taken someone else. But that also meant that Hiccup wasn't taken from the island against his will, instead he really did leave Berk of his own free will. Like the first scenario, Astrid didn't find this to be a pleasant thought.
Ugh, I should have spoken up for his innocence the second he was accused of blowing up the armory! Even I know he wouldn't do something like that. Astrid thought to herself, mentally hitting her head against a rock or a tree. Should have gone to Hiccup before he was locked up. I could have stopped him from leaving!
After a moment, she sighs in defeat. "We're going back," Astrid said to Fishlegs after a moment, turning around to the cove's entrance and exit.
"No argument here," Fishlegs said. "This place in the dark gives me the creeps."
"Fishlegs, everything in the dark gives you the creeps."
Had they come to the cove during the day, they would have seen a pile of prototype saddles Hiccup had made by hand along with a few baskets Hiccup used to carry fish for his dragon companion. And they also would have seen the massive scales and footprints left by a fifty foot tall and sixty foot long dinosaur.
"-Now, hold up, Stoick!" Gobber said to the Viking chief as he walked through the village, unaware that Mildew was walking after them. Gothi sees this and walks after them. "It's been nearly three days, you need to rest too, ya know. We'll find 'im, I'm sure of it."
". . . Don't you realize what this is, Gobber?" Stoick asked after a moment. "If he really isn't kidnapped or taken, that means he really ran away. To get away from us. To get away from ME!" he brings his hand to his head. "Gods, I am such an idiot! I just looked at the destroyed armory and jumped to the same conclusion as everyone else and didn't even bother to hear his own side of the story."
"Under normal, or better circumstances, I'd be inclined to agree with ya," Gobber replied. "And I'd be the first or second to tell ya that this wasn't the first time you did that." Just ask Hiccup and he can tell you how many times Stoick has done exactly that. "But let's not go overboard here. If there's one thin' I've always noticed between you and 'Iccup, it's tha' the two of ya had. . . communication issues."
"If your goal is to give me a pick-me-up-speech, let me just say you're not off to a good start," Stoick deadpanned.
He was right, Gobber is more or less the worst pep talker ever.
"Just bear with me 'till the finish, would ya?" Gobber asked. "Look, he's stronger than you realize. I know fur a fact tha' wherever he is, he's going to be alright. He's not going to let a few words get the better of him."
"Oh and you know that for a fact?" Mildew spoke up from behind the two Vikings.
"Oi, this is a private conversation!" Gobber said in annoyance.
"You think that weak little runt is STRONG?" Mildew went on in a mocking tone. "You talk like you know him inside and out! Isn't that supposed to be his father?"
"Now, Mildew," Gobber said in a cautious tone.
"We all should have seen this coming, Gobber," Mildew said. "The runt couldn't tough it out, not even once! We should be glad he's gone. No more houses being destroyed. No more free handouts to the dragons. He was nothing but a nuisance and everyone knows it."
Stoick tightens his free hand into a fist in the middle of Mildew's speech but then a memory comes to his mind.
"All those years as the worst Viking Berk has ever seen. Odin, it was rough, I almost gave up on you. . . "
Stoick's angry expression is replaced by remorse. His hand relaxes and begins to shake.
"Come on, I say we throw a party!" Mildew went on. "Out with the old and in with the new! No one will miss that tiny, spineless little-!"
Gobber rears back his fist and punches Mildew in the face. Mildew falls down to the ground, his staff clattering to the ground and Fungus runs away in fear. And this was the opportunity for Gothi to whack Mildew in the face with her staff with enough force to knock the elder out cold.
Stoick is shaken out of his thoughts while Gobber began to kick Mildew in the ribs. "How you ended up with three wives in the past is beyond my understanding." the blacksmith stated in between his kicks.
The chief then notices Gothi glaring up at him. The village elder begins writing on the ground with her staff.
Gobber sees this and walks on over to Stoick. He looks down at the scribbling on the ground. "Look ta' yerself," he reads. "If it was my boob being smack talked, I would have-"
WHACK!
Gothi whacked Gobber on the head with her staff. "Sorry! Sorry!" the blacksmith apologized frantically. He reads it again. "If it was my son being smack talked like what Mildew was doing, I would have hammered the speaker into the ground before he spoke the second sentence. Ya just stood there and let him speak ill of yer only boy. Disrespectful-I mean, disgraceful. Is this who our chieftain who has guided us to safety and kept us together for nearly seventeen winters really is? A father who doesn't defend his child? No wonder Hiccup ran away."
Villagers stare while Gobber stands and watches as Gothi looks up to Stoick with disappointment and they let the words sink into the Viking chief. Eventually, Stoick begins to sob as if an old wound had been reopened. Gothi eventually walks away and Gobber turns to walk to the forge while the onlooking villagers leave Stoick as he wails.
"Oh, son. . . I'm so, so sorry."
Four days later. . .
Astrid, Fishlegs, Snotlout and the Twins are seated at the steps of the Great Hall. Snotlout is near the bottom, the Thorstons and Fishlegs above him and Astrid above them all. An uncomfortable silence descends upon the group before Fishlegs looks up to the others.
"Do. . . do you think we could have stopped it?" he asked. "Him leaving?"
"Other than you telling the truth of his innocence when he asked?" Astrid retorted before sighing. "I . . . I don't know. It's not like we gave him many good reasons to stay."
She recalls each interaction she had with the now runaway heir. Up until Dragon Training, there weren't many interactions between her and Hiccup that were beyond the occasional asks for her weapon to be maintained by the blacksmith, mainly by the apprentice. Before that, she never really spoke to Hiccup out of social interaction.
"I guess it's just you and me, huh?"
"Nope, just you."
"Is this some kind of a joke to you? Our parents'war is about to become ours, figure out which side you're on."
"Ya know I realized something," Tuffnut spoke up, bringing Astrid out of her thoughts. She and the other teens, save for Snotlout, turn to look at him. "Nothing is going to burn or blow up."
Astrid stared at the male Thorston twin before sighing in annoyance and slapping her head with her palm. Fishlegs speaks in his own annoyance. "I'm sure the dragons will change that, Tuffnut. Isn't that enough?"
"Yeah, but it was always more fun when Hiccup did it," Tuffnut replied.
"I know," Ruffnut concurred. "Remember that time he got that doo-hickey that blew a hole in the woman's bathhouse?"
Astrid furrowed her brows. "That wasn't him, that was Gustave because he didn't know what he was holding!" she stated. She was certain it was a miniature catapult that you hold in your hands.
"How did Gustave even get something like that?" Fishlegs asked.
"We gave it to him," Tuffnut answered. "Told him it was a birthday present from Hiccup. Of course, he didn't say that when he was in trouble. He just said that Hiccup gave it to him."
". . . Hiccup wouldn't do that," Astrid said slowly.
"Yeah, but it's not like anyone believed him when he said that." Ruffnut said. "Much like the destruction of the armory, they just instantly blame Hiccup."
Astrid narrowed her eyes. What was this meaning?
"And don't forget the time he tried to fix up that catapult and ended up launching a boulder at Mildew's house on the other side of the hill," Tuffnut said with a smile. "I almost cried, it was beautiful."
Ruffnut wipes a tear from her eye, overcome with emotion while her brother cackles. Fishlegs shakes his head in disapproval and disbelief.
"Are you guys serious?" the larger teen asked incredulously. "You liked him for pretty much the same reasons the adults hated him?"
"Hey, I didn't hear anyone complaining about Mildew's house becoming splinters," Tuffnut said defensively.
He is right there, no one really complained about that and let the old man fix his house by himself.
"Well, except Mildew, but that guy complains about everything." Ruffnut added.
Too right she is.
Astrid shakes her head and stands up and walks away down the steps.
It would be a whole month when the people of Berk and the other Viking tribes would notice something. The dragon raids stopped. Completely stopped. It has been relatively peaceful for all the Viking islands, especially for Berk, the closest island to Helheim's Gate.
This didn't settle well for most of the older Vikings, they felt this was the calm before a violent storm.
Little did they know that it was the total opposite.
Despite the dragons not raiding for nearly a month now, Berk still suffered an invasion from the Outcasts Tribe and their leader, Alvin the Treacherous shortly after Hiccup's disappearance and Gobber did not finish restocking the armory.
Astrid stood among the teens as the whole village gathered in the Great Hall upon getting notified that the Outcasts ships had been spotted in their waters. She looks around as most of the villagers speak over one another to the chief about what to do. Most of them speak of their shortage of weapons. But then there's Mildew.
"No weapons, and there's Outcasts coming to our shores!" the elder 'wailed' dramatically to Stoick. "All because of your boy."
Astrid glared at the back of the elder, feeling really tempted to either ax the man or throw him into the Great Hall's fire pit and say it was an accident.
Unfortunately, she did neither.
"Bucket, Mulch, take the children and the elderly to the far side of the island," Stoick instructed.
"We can help fight, Chief," Astrid protested. "We were trained as warriors."
"She may have been trained," Snotlout speaks up in an arrogant tone. "But I was born a warrior."
Stoick pulls out a large double sided hatchet. "Take this," he said to Astrid, giving her the hatchet and ignoring Snotlout. "It was Alvin's. Use it to defend our people. Go with the villagers." Eventually, Astrid nodded in acceptance.
Despite how the Berkians didn't have weapons, they did manage to drive the Outcasts off, but, it wasn't what most of the adults knew.
Because of Bucket's reckless (But well intended) behavior, a vast majority of Berk was captured by the Outcasts and held hostage.
"My name is Alvin the Treacherous," the leader of the Outcasts said to the Berkian hostages. "And let me tell you, that name was well earned."
"Alvin?" Tuffnut repeated before asking in a mocking tone. "How did he earn that name?"
"Your leader has abandoned ya." Alvin went on to say.
Mildew whispers to Astrid, "And you kids say that you're trained as warriors. Bah! Look where that got us."
Tired of the lanky man, Astrid elbows Mildew in the face and knocks him out. "My grandfather's frail." she explained in a sweet tone when Alvin looked over to her and the unconscious elder in her arms. "He needs his nap."
"Well, like I said . . ." Alvin looked away and Astrid dropped Mildew to the ground. "Accept me as your new chief and call me Alvin the Conqueror, and you can all be free and not in dungeons."
"Conqueror? Come on!" Snotlout scoffed arrogantly. "I'll show Alvin who's a conqueror." he grabs his baby mace and runs up behind Alvin, planning to hit him. Alvin turns around and Snotlout loses his nerve and holds out his mace to the Outcast Chief. "For you, sir."
Astrid facepalms next to Fishlegs and the Thorston Twins and a Berkian snorts in the crowd. "Yeah, you were born a warrior."
"Well, you'd better check your trousers, son." Alvin said, taking the mace from Snotlout. "I think you've soiled yourself."
Astrid tried to take out Alvin, throwing the hatchet given to her by Stoick at him. Alvin catches it mid-air without looking. "Will you look at that! My old hatchet." Alvin said upon recognizing what the hatchet was. "I was wondering when I'd get that back."
Savage grabs Astrid and tosses her up to the balcony to stand in front of Alvin. "Trying to kill Alvin the Treacherous? Ooh hoo!" Alvin laughed mockingly to Astrid. "You're not as smart as you look."
Astrid glared up at the Outcast chief defiantly with a glare. "But I should thank you for giving back me old hatchet." he said thoughtfully before grabbing Astrid by her hair and then swinging the hatchet at her neck.
Astrid's eyes widened before a green blur shot past her and then latched onto Alvin's face, causing him to drop his hatchet and then let go of Astrid.
Astrid sees a couple of Terrible Terrors attacking Alvin. She stares at the scene in confusion before she hears someone shouting, "Dragons!"
The blonde shield maiden looks up and sees dragons in the sky and diving towards them. No, not them all. Just at the Outcasts. The dragons were attacking the Outcasts? What in Thor's name is going on?
She had no time to question when a blue Deadly Nadder snatches Alvin off the ground and then tossed him down the hill. The Sharp Class dragon then lands next to her, screeching at the other Outcasts close by before swing its tail and whipped Savage in the face.
A Monstrous Nightmare picked up an Outcast in its jaws and shook the man like a rag doll before throwing him down the hill.
Mildew rose up with a groan. "What-?" he asked before he was knocked down by a Gronckle that was chasing the Outcasts.
If one were to ask the older Vikings, they'd say that they fought the Outcasts until Stoick and the other warriors returned. But if one were to ask Astrid?
The dragons kept tossing the Outcasts down the hills until Stoick and the warriors returned and then left soon after and the Berkians drove off the Outcasts and sent them sailing.
Hiccup walked alongside Yamane Kyohei, the Samurai Takkai Aso and a handful of other warriors in armor while the princess was being carried on a horse. Toothless and Sharpshot were perched on Gojira's head and back, the Saurian walking a few feet above their trail. Both Night Fury and Saurian were clearly prepared for the worse, while Sharpshot was curled up behind one of Gojira's dorsal spines, asleep.
Hiccup noticed that the princess would look at him every now and then and then glanced over to his Saurian and dragon companions.
It had been roughly three days since they left the village and traveled to the main province. Along the way, Hiccup asked the Japanese elder questions regarding the dragons that lived here in Japan. According to the elder, the humans and dragons had lived in relative peace with very few fights in between until about two years ago.
Hmm, Hiccup hummed to himself, storing that information for later. Interesting.
It was nearly six hours later until they arrived at a large village. Upon walking through the streets, Hiccup noticed people bowing their heads at the princess on her horse but when they saw Gojira, the reactions were between hiding inside their houses or bowing down to the ground while muttering, "Wada Tsumi Gojira da."
Hiccup remembered that dream he had the week he met Gojira, the one where he heard people speak in a language that he didn't understand, but the only word he remembered hearing was Gojira.
So, I guess this is where Gojira is from, he thinks to himself. He was then pulled from his thoughts when he saw that they had arrived at the palace. He looked around in awe. The place was bigger than his old house, perhaps big as the Great Hall in terms of width. Hiccup wasn't one for architecture but the gold and the jade in this place was impressive to the Viking teen. The statues of dragons and other creatures Hiccup wasn't familiar with were definitely interesting.
"I realize that I should give you some advice for speaking to the Shogun, young Norseman." Elder Yamane suddenly said. "For 2,000 years, the Shogun was never seen by a commoner. You must bow when you enter the room. You may look at him, but do not speak unless spoken to, if he stands you must bow. If he bows you must bow lower. You understand?"
"Bow when entering the room. Look but don't speak unless spoken to. Bow if he stands. Bow lower if he bows." Hiccup said, nodding his head with furrowed brows.
"Hai." Yamane said. Hiccup nodded. "Hai."
They entered the palace, acting like the princess's escorts before they entered a large room with armored warriors, dressed similar to Aso standing at attention. The princess continued walking while Aso, Yamane and Hiccup bowed their heads to the man that sat on a throne on the other side of the room. Akane bowed when she was close to the Shogun. "Otosan, kyo okotta koto wa shinji rarenaideshou ne." she said to the Shogun. She glanced back to Hiccup before back to the Shogun. "Mata doragon no shugeki ni attaga Gojira ni tasuke rareta. Wada tsumi ga 5-nen-buri ni kaette kita! Soshite tsuini kare ni au koto ga deki mashita! Soshite, kono shonen wa nan-biki ka no doragon to tomo dachi desu! Kuroi doragon to, neko no yona chisana midoriiro no doragon. "
The Shogun looked at the princess with a raised eyebrow before raising his left hand and gestures for them to come closer.
Hiccup, Yamane and Aso walked in sync to the throne. "And bow again," Yamane whispered to Hiccup and they all bowed their heads again.
"Aso," spoke the Shogun and the Samurai raised his head. "Gojira to shonen ga doragon no tomo dachi tte do iu koto?" he tilted his head.
"Mura ga doragon ni shugeki sa reta" Aso replied. He glances at Hiccup before glancing back at the Shogun. "Gojira to kono Hokuo hito ga ara wa rete doragon no Manda o kogeki shi mashita."
The Shogun narrowed his eyes a bit before turning to look at Hiccup. "Hokuo hito? Nan'nen mo tatta no chi deshou ka? Kare wa watashitacha no gengo o hanashimasu ka?"
"Le." Aso shook his head. "Yamane choro ga tsuyaku o tsu tomete kuda sai mashita."
The mentioned elder bowed his head at the Shogun. "Yamane choro wa kono Hokuo hito ni hontoni Gojira o tsurete kitasa seta?" he asked the elder.
"He's asking if you really did arrive with Gojira," Yamane said to Hiccup. He looked to him and to the Shogun and nods his head. "Yes, I did."
The princess speaks to her father and the Shogun spoke again, looking at Hiccup. "Kanojo ga itta yo ni, kare wa watashi no musume o mamori ni kita no deshou ka?"
"Did you come to defend the princess?" Yamane asked.
Hiccup glanced at the princess briefly before answering. "I came to defend the village as a whole. But yes, Gojira, my dragon Toothless and I did come to defend her from the wild dragon."
Yamane translates his answer to the Shogun. Hiccup sees how the Shogun has the expression of a rock while Princess Akane was openly showing how she was fascinated. The Shogun spoke again. "Doragon no shugeki ni tsuite tazuneru. Watashitachi no murabito o kogeki suru tame ni karera o okurikonda no wa kare desu ka?"
"You haven't sent dragons to attack us?"
Hiccup shook his head. "No. I did not."
"Kare wa kuroi doragon o shitagaete iru nodesu ka?"
"You command the black dragon?"
Hiccup nods his head. "I've tamed him. He's my friend, same for the smaller dragon." Yamane translates to the Shogun.
"Gojira tte donano?"
"And what of Gojira?"
"Gojira has been a loyal friend and protector since we met in my homeland," Hiccup replied.
"Naze kare wa mura o tasuketa nodeshou ka? Kare no ito wa nani deshou ka?"
"And why did you help? What is your intentions?"
"It was the right thing to do." Hiccup replied. "If you allow me, I intend to help you with your dragon problem."
"Naze kare wa watashitachi o tasuke rareru to omou nodeshou ka?"
"What makes you think you can help us?" Yamane asked, looking curious as well.
"My home was raided by wild dragons for many years." Hiccup replied. "It was discovered that they were being controlled by a monstrous dragon queen of great size that forced them to bring back food of massive amounts or be eaten themselves. I believe the same thing is happening here." Yamane translated for him.
"Sore wa watashi no shitsumon no kotae ni natte imasen."
"That doesn't answer the Shogun's question." Yamane replied.
"The dragon's queen will be in a nest and only a dragon could find the nest." Hiccup explained. "If you allow me to help, I can follow the dragons back to their nest after the next raid with my dragons and then together, we can kill it and stop the dragon raids."
Yamane relayed the information to the Shogun who nodded his head, absorbing it all. He rubs his chin before turning to the princess. "Kore ni tsuite doomimasuka, musume-san?"
Akane turned to Hiccup before answering her father. "Karenara watashitachi o tasukete kureru to shinjite imasu, otosan."
The Shogun nods his head and replies. "Hokuo hito ni kare no moshide o ukeireru to tsutaete kudashi. Kare wa ninmu ga kanryo suru made kyuden no shikichi-nai ni tomaru koto ga yurusa reru. Tozen no kotonagara, kare to kare no doragon-tachi wa sukina yo ni jiyu ni kodo dekimasu. Kare ga hitobito o kyofu ni otoshire tari, jibun no nozomu mono o te ni ireru tame ni hitobito okyohaku shi tari shinai kagiri. Moshi kare ga uso o tsuite iru to wakattara, aruiwa kare ga watashitachi o uragitta baai Sonogo, Gojira ga shōnin suru ka dō ka ni kakawarazu, watashi wa kare to kare no doragon ga korosa reru no o mirudeshou." He gives Hiccup a cold expression.
"The Shogun has accepted your offer to help us." Yamane translated. "You will be allowed to remain in the palace grounds until your task is accomplished. Within reason, you are free to do as you please with your dragons. But he says that you keep them from terrorizing the village and do not intimidate people to get what you want. If he finds out that you are lying or going to betray us, then Gojira's approval or not, he will see that you and your dragons will be executed."
Hiccup nodded his head understanding and bowed his head to the Shogun. "Thank you, your Highness." The Shogun accepted this with a nod before rising while speaking to his daughter. "Sā, akane, watashi to anata no otōto ni nani ga okotta no ka oshietekudasai."
Akane got up from her position and smiled at Hiccup before following her father. Hiccup sees one of the warriors chuckle to themselves before following after the Shogun and the princess.
"Follow me, Norseman," Elder Yamane said before he and Aso walked to the way they came. "We need to find a place for you to stay along with your dragons."
Hiccup followed after them. He thanked the gods of Asgard that he had not been killed and considered himself lucky that the girl he and Gojira saved happened to be the princess and she seemed to speak on his behalf.
"Excuse me, Mr. Yamane," Hiccup spoke as they walked in the halls. "But could you perhaps teach me to speak your language?" he asked politely.
The warrior that followed the Shogun and the princess took off his helmet, revealing to a young man with black hair that was tied in a pony tail. "Imōto o watashi nuki de mura ni ika setara doragon ni osowa rete shimau." he says to Akane while hugging her close with one arm and ruffling her hair with the other. "Imōto-san, hontōni kiken ga ōi ndesu ne."
"Ozaki nisan," Akane replied, trying to push away from her older brother. "Doragon ga osotte kuru koto o shitte ita wakede wanai."
"Ay," Ozaki muttered, shaking his head in response. "Soshite anata no hīrō wa doragonraidādeshita ne? Sore wa anata no kūsō no hitotsude wanaideshou ka?"
"Ozaki!" Akane snapped, blushing. "Watashi wa kare no koto o hotondo shiranai no ni, anata wa sudeni watashi o karakatte iru nodesu ka?" she replied.
"Sore wa anata no kyōdai to shite no watashi no shigotodesu," Ozaki said chuckling.
"Ozaki," the Shogun scolded playfully. "Imōto-san wa hanatte oite kudasai. Kanojo wa sono shōnen no koto o hotondo shirimasen. Sū-shūkan machimasu."
"Otosan, anata mo janai no yo!" Akane said, blushing more getting her father and brother to laugh. She crossed her arms in a pout.
So, how was that?
And I introduced another Millennium series human character, Ozaki from Godzilla Final Wars.
What did you think of the scenery at Berk? And there's a little teaser of how things will be without Hiccup and the dragons.
By the way, anyone else hating Mildew? Because I sure am.
Next chapter will be Hiccup growing accustomed to Japanese life, bond with Akane and Ozaki, meet another human character from the Godzilla franchise before getting into the action.
And prepare for a scene from The Iron Giant.
