Okay so don't kill me!I'm terribly sorry this took two month. I've been going through some things. I want to thank everyone for the reviews on the last chapter and for sticking with this story even though the progress is slow. Enjoy!
"How did it go? What are we having?" Rosa asked excitedly when she picked up the phone
"Do you think you can come pick me up?" Yelena asked, throwing her belongings into her suitcase.
"What? Why? What's wrong?"
"Nothing, I just... I'm freaking out right now. I can't deal and I need to get out of here. Like yesterday."
She tried to control her trembling hands as she zipped her bag closed
"You're not making any sense, slow down and talk to me."
"I'm sending you the address. Just please come and get me. I'll explain everything later, I swear." she said, sharing her location from her IPhone to save her time
"Okay." Rosa said uneasily "I'll text you when I'm on the way."
Her phone was abruptly snatched away
"Your little escape mission won't be necessary Mendes. I've got this under control." Chris said, hanging up
"Chris-" Yelena started
"Let's talk downstairs." he said, guiding her towards the door.
Her feet felt like they were weighed down by cement as she followed him down the stairs and into the dining room. He parked her at the table where a sandwich and a bottle of water was waiting and sat directly across from her where his own sandwich and a bottle of Jose Cuervo was sitting, a line of shot glasses waiting
He sat down with a heavy sigh, unscrewing the top off the glass bottle "Do you mind?"
She let out a snort "Not at all. Wish I could join you."
His lips turned up "Drunk was always how I preferred you." He joked, knocking back a shot
"Being drunk is what got us in this mess." she said, watching him enviously
"You should eat." he said, throwing back his second shot
Yelena said nothing as she picked up her food, taking a bite, watching him, waiting
He winced as he downed his third shot, setting the glass down and screwing the top back on the bottle "So..." he began
"So..." she reiterated, trying to get a feel for where this conversation was going to go.
"Twins." he said
"Twins." she repeated, the words feeling foreign on her tongue
"Holy shit." he said, almost like he was hearing it all over again
"You said that already." she said, biting into her sandwich
Chris sat back in his chair, the disbelief creeping back up on his face "How did this happen?"
Yelena let out a laugh "I should be asking you that, Mr. Bionic Sperm."
A dazzling smile took the place of disbelief and her heartstrings pulled the tiniest bit
"I think twins run on my dad's side of the family, now that you mention it." He said, taking a giant bite out of his untouched sandwich.
They sat in silence and finished up their lunch. The suspense of it all was killing her and she had to ask
"So what now?"
"What do you mean?" Chris asked
"This isn't exactly what you signed up for here. One is a surprise, but two?"
"They're my kids, Yelena. If you're waiting for me to run for cover, don't count on it. I already told you. I'm not going anywhere."
"I just don't want you to ever say I never gave you the chance to." she said, fidgeting with the sunflower pendant at her neck
"Who was the one plotting an escape root while I was making lunch?"
Her face reddened as she shook her head
He reached across the table, placing a gentle hand on top of hers "You can't keep running from me, Yelena."
"I know. I'm sorry." she said, lowering her head shamefully
"Don't be. I was expecting it. I understand this is a lot to wrap our heads around, but we don't have much more time to waste. I'm not going to lie to you, I'm scared shitless." he said with a chuckle
"Tell me about it."
"We'll get through this and I'll be right there every step of the way, but you're going to have to trust me."
Trust him. The man who sent her into a downward spiral on multiple occasions, ruining her relationship, shattered her heart into a thousand pieces without a drop of remorse
The father of her children. Everything else was in the past. She had to stop picking at old wounds. It wasn't about what he had done to her in the past. It wasn't about her. It's about her babies now.
Yelena held the ultrasound photos in its envelope out of Dean's reach. Lucky for her, she was on the other side of the table
"Come on, stop teasing, we've waited long enough!" Seth complained
"We have to wait on Roman to get here." she said, drawing her arm back further as the Cincinnati native lunged again for the picture
She felt the envelope slip from her fingers and a kiss was placed on top of her head
"Well thank you for gracing us with your presence." Rosa said
"Sorry I'm late." The big Samoan apologized as he rounded the table "May I do the honor?"
"Go ahead." Yelena told him
"Drumroll please." Roman requested
Seth and Dean beat their hands on the wooden table forcefully. Yelena didn't miss the way a passing waitress narrowed her eyes at them.
Roman tore the envelope open, sliding the black and white photos out before observing it closely.
A bright smile took to his handsome features "Pay up assholes. That includes you Rosa." Roman said, dropping the photos on the table
Rollins, Ambrose, and Rosa attacked them like animals
"No freaking way!" Seth said
"Holy shit Doll Face!" Dean said, his blue eyes wide
"TWINS!" Rosa squealed happily, throwing her arms around the pregnant woman
"Well I'll be damned." Seth said in disbelief
"And I'll be paid. Annie up bitches."
The three dug out their wallets, coughing up the money
"How did you know?" Yelena asked
"Jimmy and Jey's mom use to tell the story about finding out she was having twins all the time. The way you said the baby was curled up made me believe it." Roman said, counting out the bills. He took a crisp fifty out of the stack and handed it to Rosa "Since you weren't entirely wrong."
Rosa folded the bill and stuffed it in her bra
"How do you feel?" Seth asked
"Honestly? Like I need five shots of Jack."
"And how is Baby Daddy taking the news?" Dean asked, adjusting the backwards ball cap on his head
Yelena shifted in her seat uncomfortably "I can't really say he jumped for joy, but he hasn't hauled ass yet either."
"Well that's a good sign." Rosa said
"And I'd like to think that he would know better than to try it." Dean said aggressively
"You're staying with him, right? While they're fixing your air conditioning?" Roman asked
"I should only be there for a few more days, they should be calling soon to let me know when it's fixed."
"Well if you're ever uncomfortable or if he tries any funny shit, you can always come stay with me." Rosa offered
"Or with me. Galina and I would be happy to have you."
"Thanks you guys, but I'm pretty sure he won't try anything. I'm not the most flattering thing to look at these days." Yelena said, stirring the straw in her lemonade
"She's joking, right?" Dean asked in all seriousness
"You clearly don't see what everyone else does." Seth said
"What? I mean, I'm a mess, I barely have the energy to put on makeup to impress anyone. Not to mention I get rounder by the second... That's enough to turn any guy off."
It was all true. She hadn't been feeling like herself lately. Her clothes were borderline ripping at the seams. She barely got any sleep. It was getting harder and harder to get comfortable even on the expensive mattress she was sleeping on at Chris's house. The babies were really starting to make their individual presences known.
"You don't need makeup, your natural beauty is enough to stop any man in their tracks." Rollins told her
She shot him a grateful smile "Thanks Seth."
"Not to mention pregnancy does unspeakable things to a guy's head. You don't even know." Dean said, shaking his head as he eyed her up and down "I feel like a chihuahua in heat around you, girl."
Yelena could only roll her eyes
"He's right. I couldn't keep my hands off Galina when she was pregnant. It was like she was giving off some sort of aura. It didn't hurt that her hormones were all over the place either."
"And it's only a matter of time before he can't keep his hands off of you, as much as I hate to admit." Rosa said, matter of fact like
Yelena dismissed it completely from the conversation "No way."
"Don't put it past him." Dean said with a shrug
Of course now the thought wouldn't leave her alone. She had to literally force the idea of Chris still being attracted to her in any way out of her brain. There was no way anyone could want her in her current state. Sure the incident with Wade crossed her mind, but they had been caught up in the moment, nothing more.
The more she thought about it, the weirder she felt around Chris. On top of finding out about their babies, now she felt self conscious. She spent most of her time holed up in her temporary bedroom. Baggy clothes became her best friend to hide her unflattering figure. Her belly was getting way past the point of being hid, which made her feel worse about herself.
At least Chris was absent at the moment while she was stuck in her own head. He had to fly back out to New York to tie loose ends before finalizing on his Podcast and an appearance in Tennessee. She had two days to think and dwell on it , hopefully she could pull it together before he got home.
"Twins?" del Rio said incredulously
"Shhhhh! Not so loud." Chris hissed at him.
He had only told a select few people. Sure Yelena had a handful of friends who knew that he was the father, but he didn't want their business spreading like wildfire throughout the locker room. Something told him his ass would be served to him on a silver platter if he blabbed his mouth too much. He was careful not to even say her name too loud.
"But yeah. Twins. Girls."
Sheamus only grinned "Well congratulations man. Looks like ye finally succeeded on having her right where you want her."
"Not exactly the way I planned on doing it."
"Like hell it wasn't. As much hell as ye put the poor lass through, how's that karma treating ye?"
"Pretty good if you ask me." del Rio said, lacing up his boots "He's already managed to get her in his house."
Sheamus raised a brow at the blonde
"It's not what you think. Her air conditioning went out in her place. She's pregnant, I couldn't let her stay there."
The big Irishman clapped him on the shoulder "Whatever ye say Jericho."
"It's not like that and you know it asshole." Chris laughed
"We know, we know it's not like that... For now. We all know it's just a matter of time." Sheamus said with a wolfish grin
"Before what, exactly?" he asked
"Before whoever she is tries to tear your clothes off every chance she gets." Jey joined it, appearing out of nowhere, his other half right beside him
Chris waved it off "Nah."
"Oh yes." Jimmy insisted "What is she, four? Five months now? I give it another month and she'll have you dropping your pants on command as soon as you walk through the door."
"I doubt it very seriously. We're coexisting in my house until they get the air fixed at her place."
"Unless you find a way to make her stay a little longer." del Rio suggested "We're telling you this from experience amigo. By far the best sex you'll ever have in life."
Jimmy and Jey nodded in agreement
"I doubt it'll ever happen." Chris said, shooting the idea down
"Hey, your lose. You're gonna wish you'd listened to us when another man is taking advantage." Jimmy said, nudging his brother "Come on Uce, our match is up next."
...
Finally back home, he entered his house, an unfamiliar sense of welcome washing over him. A sweet aroma of something baking filled his nose as he dropped his keys in the bowl in the foyer.
"Yelena?" he called
She didn't respond, and his feet followed the amazing smell, leading him into the kitchen. He fought the urge to pull whatever was in the oven out and devour it. Noticing that the sliding glass door that led to his back yard wasn't completely closed, he stepped out onto his deck, the sight before him stopping his breathing.
She looked like a goddess, laying there on one of the reclining lounge chairs. She wore a simple light pink strapless sun dress that showed off the roundness of her bump. Her feet were bare, her legs tanned perfectly by the Florida sun. The weather was perfect today, not too hot. He could tell that she had taken advantage of the day, her body bathed in sunlight, her face shielded by the large tree, a book in hand as she napped peacefully.
Her overgrown monster of a dog laid at her feet, his grey eyes watching him intensely, letting out a growl as he approached.
He had gotten used to the friendly warning, even daring to let Great Dane smell his open palm as he sat on the edge of the chair next to the sleeping beauty. Bane sniffed his hand and Chris took that as a good sign, considering if the dog wanted to chew his whole hand off, he would have already.
Yelena stirred, the book dropping from her lap. He watched as her green eyes opened slowly as she stretched.
"Hey. Welcome home." she said, smiling sleepily at him
Music to his ears. "How long have you been out here?"
She checked her phone "Maybe thirty minutes. Oh crap, the cake." she said, swinging her legs around him.
He found it cute when she struggled slightly to get up, standing and offering his hands.
She placed her hands in his and he heaved her up.
Yelena blew a few strands of hair from her face with a huff, going into the house.
Chris picked up the forgotten book. It was a baby name book and he let out a sigh. He kept forgetting how much of this pregnancy he had already missed out on. The twins would be here before he knew it and they hadn't even talked about names or how they would work out this co-parenting thing.
Flipping the book right side up, he took a look at the names on the random page and followed her inside. Hell, he didn't even know if they would have his last name,
"Anything good in here?" he asked, sliding into one of the bar stools in front of the island counter top
Yelena took the cake out of the oven, setting it on the cooling rack.
Chris could feel himself salivating at the smell
"I haven't come across anything just yet."
Chris flipped the page a few times "I can help."
She pulled a face
"What? I don't have a say in the names?"
"No, no. That's not what I was implying at all. You are the father. Your input will be taken into consideration."
"Consideration?" he said, raising a brow
"I'm not letting you scar my kids for life Jericho."
"Hey I have good ideas too. Just because I'm a guy doesn't mean I can't come up with decent names. I mean who named you and your sisters?"
She rolled her eyes "My father, but that wasn't hard to guess, our names are Russian."
"Tell you what: Let me hear what you have in mind and we'll work from there."
"Okay." she said, going into the cabinet for a plate "I haven't come across anything that's sticking, but I know I definitely want their names to be Russian or Italian. Preferably Italian, just to break tradition."
"Okay." he agreed. He could live with that "As long as I at least get to pick their middle names."
"Fine, but if I don't like it, then it's not happening."
"Then we have a deal." He said, flipping though pages "Oh look. The C's section."
"How convenient." she said, placing the slice of cake in front of him.
"Thanks. This smells amazing, by the way. What kind of cake is it?" he asked, picking up his fork
"Kiev cake. My father's recipe."
"Heaven." he said, mouth full
She slid into the stool next to him and he didn't miss the way she rotated her shoulders with a slight grimace, rubbing the back of her neck
"You okay?" he asked
"Yeah... my neck and shoulders have been bothering me lately."
"Is it the mattress?"
"No, it's fine. I just can't get comfortable at night. Whichever way I shift, this one objects to the position." She said, rubbing the right side of her belly
He reached out, rubbing her shoulder "You're really tense." he said, sliding off the stool to stand behind her. Both hands on her shoulders, he massaged, his thumbs working her neck "How does that feel?"
"Incredible." she muttered
He found himself moving closer, pressing his chest to her back as he continued working out the stress in her shoulders. Moving her hair to the side, the smell of Vanilla filled his nose. He had noticed that she had switched her shampoo, guessing change came with the new hair color, but he inhaled it deeply, his pulse quickening. He could practically feel the heat radiating off of her skin, inviting, taunting him.
Oh no.
What loaded question.
His hands felt amazing. Her eyes closed as he worked on the knots. He was working wonders and not just on her shoulders and neck. It had been a while since she was touched by strong hands and it was causing her a total brain meltdown. He stroked his thumb down the side of her neck, making her tremble ever so slightly.
A low moan slipped from between her lips "Chris."
"Yes sweetheart?"
His breath hit the back of her neck she had to bite back the words she wanted to say so desperately.
His fingertips glided down he bare arms and she shivered
"Gahaaaa... Um... thanks." She said, hopping down from the stool awkwardly "I think a hot shower will take care of the rest. I'll just... um... yeah." she said, turning in her heel and fleeing the kitchen, her face burning red
"No problem." Chris said, watching her leave.
Once upstairs, she locked herself in her bedroom, her back pressed to the door.
"Damn." She was burning like mad and she knew that not even a cold shower could put out the flames of the fire he had just kindled.
...
"What?" Rosa snapped when the FaceTime connected
"I need your help with something."
"Jericho, its four in the morning."
He had just gotten off his flight and was heading home when he decided to make a few stops and had somehow ended up in Bed, Bath, & Beyond. Chris flipped the camera around so she could see the large box
"What do you think?" he asked
"What the hell am I even looking at?" Rosa asked irritably
"The ComfortFit body pillow. Yelena hasn't been sleeping well. I wanted to get her something to help. It says it 'Provides support to the belly and neck and keeps hips in a comfortable position'. What do you think ?" he asked, turning the camera back his way
Despite being woken up out of her sleep, she grinned at him
"What? Why are you looking at me like that?" Chris asked
"Nothing. This is just... never mind. Get it. I think she'll love it. I have to be up in three hours, anything else I can assist you with?"
"No, by all means, go back to bed. You look like shit, you need all the sleep you can get."
Rosa flipped him the bird "Go to hell." she said, ending the call
Oh boy, I think both Yelena and Chris have provided oxygen to the fire their friends have started. Next up, The names of the twins will be revealed, Chris let's his overthinking get him in a bit of trouble, and Yelena is asked to do what she's been putting off for quite some time. I'm still trying to get a feel for what the twins' middle names should be. What kind of names do you think Jericho would come up with? Thank you, as always for reading. You guys already know the drill. Happy TLC everyone! Leave nice reviews!
