"I was an utter fool. I should have acted on my instincts that day. I ought to have begged and pleaded with Ozpin, given him an ultimatum. I knew what I saw in Summer's child." - Glynda Goodwitch, diary entry recovered from her apartment. Date unknown.

Many liberties were taken with the lore of both universes. Featuring a much darker and more grounded interpretation of RWBY as well as a very nerfed geass power. Also, this is my first published fic, so please do give me feedback on it.

Carnage. Everywhere he looked, there was fire and blood. All the screaming and shooting made his head hurt. It was hard to make out the details, it felt as if he was watching from behind a veil. He didn't understand any of what was happening, but he could feel a certain dread creeping up from within.

He began to run. He was chasing after something, someone. In his desperation, he pushed himself more and more past his limits to go towards… Towards a feint voice that called out for him, "Violet," she said.

"Violet? Earth to Violet, you there?" Ruby Rose was next to him, a look of concern on her face.

He gasped for air as he shot up, "Sis?" Where was he? A featureless interior, nothing more than a table and a lamp. Did he get captured? Did they somehow find out about-

"You fell asleep, big bro," Ruby gave him a soft smile, "You good? You were crying, you must be tired from tonight."

That's right, he was out shopping with Ruby when a band of robbers hit the dust shop. The lesser criminals were apprehended, but their leader evaded them. They were brought into a police station later. They were fine. Everything was just… fine.

"It's nothing, just a bad dream," He wiped the tears from his face and tried his best to smile.

Ruby scowled at that, "A nightmare? You mean that one?"

"Yeah… I've been having it for so long now, it's not even worth mentioning. Ugh." His head was killing him.

A light cough diverted his attention, he didn't even notice the person behind him. It was a blonde woman in formal attire that towered over him and had scowl on her face. Ruby certainly looked intimidated, and he could see why.

Her strict voice shouted at them, "Names?"

He composed himself. If he was good at anything, it was hiding his emotions, "I am Violet Rose, and this is my little sister, Ruby Rose. Now, I understand that we should have called the police on the robbers, but they were-"

"Silence! What's done is done," She turned over to Ruby, who squirmed under her gaze, "What you did tonight was extremely reckless, I hope you realize that. The fight severely endangered many civilians, including yourselves. What I want to know is where you got those weapons of yours, and who taught you to use them?"

"W- well there was that one Professor," Ruby's shaky voice began, "Who's my uncle, who's also the coolest person ever and he's also-"

"We're students of Signal Combat Academy," Violet said, "And my sister designed both of our weapons." The interrogator raised her eyebrows in surprise. If nothing, her reaction did make him feel a tiny bit better.

She sighed, "Signal students… Ordinarily, I'd let the two of you go with a slap on the wrist. However, there is someone else here who would like to meet you."

She stepped back, and a middle-aged man with gray hair and spectacles walked in through the door. He carried with himself a plate of cookies and a far kinder demeanor than the previous huntress.

"Ruby Rose… You have silver eyes," He examined her, and she felt as if he was staring into her very soul.

"And you, Violet. Your eyes… I guess it's no secret why you're named that. They're very rare too. I'm not quite sure what to make of them. They're natural, I assume?"

Violet looked at him with equal parts bafflement and amazement. Was this guy some kind of eye freak? "You'd be correct. Forgive me for asking, but… Are you who I think you are?"

Instead of answering, he put down his plate of cookies. Violet ignored it, but Ruby went ahead and started devouring them like crazy. The man chuckled at her eagerness before looking back at him, "I believe so. I am Ozpin, Headmaster of Beacon Huntsman Academy." At this Ruby suddenly stopped her eating and looked at him in awe.

He sat down and continued, "I'm quite impressed at what you've done tonight, and I wanted to talk to the two of you. Now tell me, since you're studying at Signal I assume you want to become huntsmen in the future?"

Ruby swallowed her food before replying, "More than anything in the world." Violet nodded in agreement. He heard stories about people getting accepted like this ahead of time. Was this some kind of interview? If he really could get in ahead of schedule, it would speed his plans up considerably. It was a golden opportunity. He had to get in.

Ozpin looked them over again, deep in thought. Finally, he asked Ruby, "Why do you want to be a huntress?"

She almost jumped at the question, "I want to slay monsters, and help people, and- and my sister is going to be a huntress too and really my whole family has been full of huntsmen and huntresses and they're all so cool!" She was gasping for air by the end of it. Ozpin chuckled at her innocence, "I trust you'll make an amazing huntress Ruby. And what about you Violet?"

"This world… it is full of injustice. I think becoming a huntsman will prove the best way of… righting society."

Ozpin's expression grew a little dimmer at that, "You do know the primary task of a huntsman is to kill Grimm, not people? It certainly can happen on the job but it's quite unusual for one as young as yourself to look forward to that part, much less admit to it."

Damn it, he was going to blow his chance, "Well, oftentimes people can be far more cruel and damaging than Grimm. It's only logical that I want to help keep people safe from other people," He gave Ozpin his best smile, even though he was dying on the inside.

"But unlike Grimm, people can be reasoned with. You could have so much more impact as say, a policymaker instead, couldn't you? It's only logical after all."

Is this some kind of dumb personality test? "One doesn't have to kill people to prevent them from doing harm. As for the other point, you must surely know that huntsmen are overrepresented in such positions. Were I to want that eventually, going to Beacon would still make the most sense. And I could do a lot of direct good in the meantime." He met Ozpin's calm gaze with his own, utterly certain of his ideals. If Ozpin had a problem with them, he could find another way in the world. He would win out at any cost, and he would stick to his principles.

The huntress gave his a suspicious glare, while Ruby tried to help him, "Uhh… My brother is kinda like that Sir, he always wants to do everything for everyone."

"Admirable, to be sure. But Violet, did you know that as many as one in ten huntsmen go rouge during their careers. As such, I have a duty to ensure that they are of appropriate moral character."

Violet was slightly taken aback at the bluntness. He put on his best innocent smile before he spoke again, "I don't understand, Professor. I didn't fail, did I?" Ruby gave him a worried look.

Ozpin ended up staring at him for a while. His face had lost some of its warmth by now, and both Ruby and Violet felt quite uncomfortable. He made one final glance at Ruby before sighing, "Not at all. In fact, I would like to invite you two to Beacon Academy. The school year should be starting in a week." Ruby jumped up in joy while Violet slouched in his chair in relief. He gave them a nod and got up from his chair.

Before exiting the room he turned around and adjusted his spectacles, "I sense that you are a man of conviction, Violet. Hold on to that passion, but temper it with patience. There will be a time for it, and undue recklessness shall be your downfall."

"Oz, are you absolutely certain that this was the right decision?"

"Nothing can be known for sure, Glynda." He sipped at his coffee, "I think Ruby is a safe bet, as for her brother…"

"That's who I was worried about. He seemed very…"

"Ambitious? Utilitarian?"

"You very well know how his type tends to be exploited by Sa-"

"And if I were to separate them, he would definitely grow resentful over it. We're overthinking this, he'll make a fine huntsman. Besides, we really shouldn't cast premature judgment on such a young student. We've got four more years to get to know him. It'll be fine."
