"I already possessed the practical experience. I had no need of Beacon's professors. I was there to recruit." - Violet Rose

"I still can't believe my two baby siblings will be joining me this year!" Yang gave the two of them a bear hug. "I thought I'd have to wait years for us to be together again. It's like a dream come true. Oh, we might even end up on the same team!"

Tai was standing to the side, watching them with a smile on his face, "Rubes, Yang, Vio. You do your best, alright?" He then turned to Yang, "Make sure they stay out of trouble, okay?"

Violet laughed, "Do you even know who you're talking to? If anything we ought to be watching her."

"Hey, I never had to get Yang from a police station! Do you have any idea how much you two scared me?"

Yang elbowed him, "Stop worrying Tai, I'll keep em safe. We're gonna make mincemeat of the academy initiation, you'll see."

"That's right," Ruby said, "We'll show everyone we're the best first year huntsmen in Beacon's history. We'll make you proud Dad!"

Tai got teary-eyed at that, "I believe in you, Rubes." He wiped his eyes, "Oh geez, I didn't expect to be on my own already. Make sure you write to me while you're there."

Violet gave him a gentle smile, "Don't worry dad, we won't forget you."

They waved goodbye to their father before boarding the airship headed for Beacon. "Alright, pipsqueaks." Yang said, "I promised dad you two will be making a lot of friends here, so I expect you to find new people to talk to. Don't just stick to each other, alright?"

Ruby protested, "But Yaaang, making friends is hard."

"I don't wanna hear it. Let's go meet someone. That goes for you too Vio!"

"You don't need to tell me twice, big sis." Violet dutifully followed her. After all, hetruly did want to meet as many people as he could. Looking around, he could see so many future great huntsmen. Talented and idealistic, perfect recruits for his new army. He was going to find so many kindred spirits, just like he did at Signal. He'd have to check on them too, it wasn't nice how he abandoned his combat academy without so much as a word.

Yang eventually found them a pale girl with black hair and a large bowtie on her head that was sitting alone and reading to herself. "Hello! I'm Yang Xiao-Long. These are my younger siblings, Ruby and Violet. What's your name, cutie?" She flashed her a confident smile.

"Blake…" She looked as if she wanted nothing to do with them, though she had a feeling that it wouldn't deter her harasser.

Yang looked a little awkward, and Violet had to suppress a chuckle. This wasn't how things usually went when she approached people. "Sooo… Beautiful day today…"

"Yeah. As beautiful as this book. That I will continue to read as soon as you leave."

"Huh, you're no fun at all."

"What kind of book?" Ruby asked. Her eyes were practically glowing in anticipation.

She gave the young girl a skeptical look. Violet got the sense she didn't believe Ruby was old enough to attend, "It's about a man with two souls struggling for control of a single body," She had an embarrassed look on her as she sighed, "Not like you would get it. Happy?"

"Oh, don't worry, I love books. Especially about heroes, that's why I want to be a huntress!" She puffed herself up in a show of confidence.

Blake rolled her eyes, "Hoping for a happy ending? Things are never that simple. Life just isn't a fairy tale. In any case, this isn't a book for your age."

Blake's barely subdued hostility didn't seem to register on Ruby, who still had a smile on her face, "I know. That's why we're here at Beacon. To make things better!"

Yang hugged her from behind, "That's my little sister."

While the two of them were distracted, Violet approached Blake and outstretched a hand. "It's good to have ideals, but it's also important to be practical, isn't that right?"

"If you're trying to win me over, stop." She gave him an intense glare.

Damn, she is a real joykill. "Well if you ever need someone to talk to, I'm Violet Rose."

"I'll keep it in mind."

An awkward silence followed. Thankfully it was soon relieved by a TV broadcast, "The SDC announced that it is temporarily halting shipments until security is increased. The announcement was made following a series of high-profile dust robberies by the White Fang terrorist organization. In other news..."

Several of the students were paying attention to the broadcast, especially Blake. He meant to speak with her again before he was interrupted by a banshee screech.

"How DARE you slander the honorable name of the Schnee Dust Corporation? I'll have you know that people have been sued into ruin for less slanderous statements. Never speak to me again!" A white-haired girl was berating a very terrified Ruby.

An enraged Yang responded in kind, "Hey, you never talk to my sister like that again, you hear me!"

"I will not be lectured by a bunch of White Fang sympathizers. What kind of uncouth scum is this school accepting? Is the pool of talent in Vale that low?"

Blake stood up and walked over to her, "As if the Schnee's are any better. They merely get the treatment they give to others."

"Who do you think you are to question SDC labor practices? I will not stand for this terrorist propaganda on campus."

"You brought it up, not me." Blake said, "And we're still not on campus. Why do you defend that obviously corrupt corpo anyway?"

The girl was now furious "Why, I am the one and only Weiss Schnee, heiress of the SDC. So you better watch yourselves around me!"

The whole student body was staring at the unfolding scene. Violet decided he really didn't want to associate with the spoiled brat, so he might as well make himself known by trashing her, "I hope you're as good at fighting as you are at deflecting blame. Because here they won't let you pass based on name recognition alone. Personally, I can't wait to see how you handle a real fight, princess."

She was glaring at him now, her hand close to her rapier. Violet wasn't exactly worried, but he did reach for the weapon on his back. The standoff ended when the airship landed and the ramp opened up to reveal headmaster Ozpin and another huntress that he recognized as the one they met at the police station.

They hurried to hide the evidence of their standoff, like a group of unruly children caught by their parents. If the professors noticed, they didn't show it, "Everyone, welcome to Beacon Academy. I am your headmaster, Ozpin, and this is Professor Glynda."

"To keep things brief," Glynda spoke, "You will head towards the locker rooms to prepare yourselves for initiation. You have one hour. After that, you shall meet me at the east side of the academy for an excursion into the Emerald forest. That is all for now."

Beacon Academy was separated from the rest of Vale by a great cliff, so it was only reachable by airship. The campus itself was more a work of art than a practical space. It was akin to something out of a fairy tale. The massive courtyard was home to many marble monuments to legendary huntsmen, green spaces, ponds, and old-fashioned lamp posts. The academy building resembled a castle with a few smaller towers, and the famous Beacon clocktower in the very middle.

The students were herded into a large locker room where they prepared themselves for the harrowing task ahead. Violet imagined things would have been easier if he had finished his last year at Signal Academy and had his peers with him, but looking at all the people gathered, many of them seemed to be from elsewhere.

The white-haired girl he was arguing with was from Atlas, and the redhead she was now talking to was a well-known Mistrali tournament champion. They would be tough competition, but also valuable potential allies. They all seemed very professional, save for one girl who was loudly talking about cheating the partner selection process.

As amusing as she was, it made him wonder how they selected future partners? His online search surprisingly found very little, and what information there was seemed contradictory at times. Was it such a well-guarded secret?

Before long they were all gathered at the edge of Beacon Academy, overlooking the Emerald forest. A series of jump pads was arranged in front of them, before which they made a line.

Ozpin stood opposite of them, "Welcome, future students. You must be anxious to get started, so I will make things short. You are to make your way through the forest to an old temple in the north. Once there, you will pick up a relic that we left as proof of your accomplishment."

Sounds simple enough.

"Be warned, however," he added, "As the forest will be full of Grimm. We will watch your progress, but we shall not interfere. That means that you may very well die today." A few gasps followed his statement, but most seemed to have internalized the danger beforehand. That being said, Violet was a bit surprised at the hands-off attitude in regards to the initiates. He did welcome it, however.

"Take your places on the jump pads, and good luck. Oh, and one more thing, your partner for the next four years shall be the first person you make eye contact with."

What?

Before the students could protest, the pads activated, launching them one by one into the forest. A blonde student spoke up, "Wait, how are we supposed to land? I wasn't given a parachute."

"Just use your landing strategy, silly." Ruby said, "They taught you one at your academy, right? Right?" She was launched into the air, followed by the other student.

Violet waited for his turn, somewhat anxious. He tried to track the trajectories of the various students, but it was a difficult task as they all started flying in unpredictable directions. The red dot that was Ruby got lost in the trees, flying somewhat to the left. He could see a white dot in proximity too, and he wondered if that was who he thought it was. Before he could think more on it, he too was launched. As he soared through the air, he took a deep breath and drew his scythe.

His scythe, the one and only Mordred, was quite the simple weapon, at least according to Ruby. The weapons nut insisted that it had to transform from a portable form into a combat form in addition to a dozen other miniature functionalities. He didn't have the heart to deny her, and so he got himself a scythe that was perhaps a little too heavy for his age and which might be unrepairable should something break.

His weapon's main functionality was the fire dust combustion chamber at the start of the blade, with a small nozzle sticking out. A pull of the trigger and a fire dust explosion was directed towards the ground. Usually meant to launch the scythe forward, the massive recoil now served to slow his descent.

He pulled the trigger once more near the treeline, slowing him to a more manageable speed. Then he pointed the scythe to the ground, and upon impact the metal handle bent slightly to slow him even more, resulting in a relatively gentle landing.

Now to find someone.

Ruby would be a preferred candidate, he'd want to protect her as she tended to have… difficulties in social matters. And this school seemed to be home to interesting characters, to say the least.

His thoughts were interrupted by the characteristic howl of a Beowolf. The creature was a Grimm, the physical manifestation of evil. It was a wolflike mass of blackness with plate armor made of bone, and it was moving at him from the distance. He readied the Mordred and spun the scythe in a circle above him. The Grimm continued its charge. It lunged at him, claws outstretched. A clash of metal on bone, and both of them were knocked back.

He struck a great blow to its head plating, yet the creature was not seriously hurt. Even worse, he lost most of his momentum. This wasn't how things usually went, humans tended to be far more fragile. The creature recovered quickly and charged at him once more. He didn't have the time to spin it up again.

This can't be how initiation ends. No, I can't allow it. He positioned the Mordred on the ground, blade facing upwards. As the Grimm jumped, he pulled the trigger. The blade launched itself straight through the belly of the Beowolf, killing it instantly.

He was breathing heavily, "Damn, this isn't quite how I imagined this starting. I only packed a dozen cartridges for this mission. They're so heavy and now… Ugh."

"Is that so? Maybe the two of us will have better luck together." A feminine voice spoke behind him.

He turned around, his expression switching from surprise to a smile, "Miss Nikos, I presume?"

The girl in question, a tall redhead with a ponytail and clad in bronze armor, blushed at the statement "Ah, recognized me, have you?"

"What can I say, it's hard not to. Your face is practically everywhere." A shame I didn't find Ruby, but she's a great partner as well. Pyrrha is an expert in tournament combat, and she could be a prime companion for my schemes. I'd first need to find out if she'd ever go along with anything I had in mind though.

"Yeah, I guess so. I am on everything from TV shows to cereals." They started walking together. Before the silence could become awkward, Pyrrha spoke again, "So, what's your name?"

"Oh, excuse my manners. I'm Violet Rose." He extended a handshake which Pyrrha accepted.

"Don't take this the wrong way, but you seem a little…"

"Young?" He gave her a sweet smile.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to-"

"It's okay, I skipped a grade to get into Beacon."

"Wow, you must be really good at fighting then."

"It's not as big a deal as it seems. I'm sure you could have done it too."

"You flatter me, Violet."

"I'm serious."

They spent several more minutes silently walking while Violet thought of ways to get to know her better. "So, why Beacon? I thought you were from Mistral."

"Well, I thought maybe I would go here to escape some of the fame. So many prying eyes. Didn't work out though, did it?" She chuckled to herself.

"I'm sorry to hear that, I didn't mean to."

"And besides, I did want to see what the rest of the world was like. I don't get to go sightseeing when traveling for tournaments. Are you from Vale?" She asks.

"I'm from Patch, but I've been to the city a lot. If you need a guide, just ask." He gave her another one of his well-practiced innocent smiles.

Pyrrha blushed, unsure if he was insinuating something more. Violet was staring at her intently. She wasn't sure what to make of it. Her thoughts were interrupted by a ruffling in the woods ahead. A duo of Boarbatusks descended upon them. She swiftly took aim with her javelin, which seemed to transform into a sort of rifle. It brought down one of them before they got close.

Violet turned his scythe around, the end of it opening up to reveal a knife sticking out of it. He dug the scythe blade into the ground, and pointed the knife end towards the charging Grimm, using the Mordred as a sort of braced spear. The creature couldn't correct its course in time, and it skewered itself on his weapon, staying there for a few moments before dissolving into black mist.

That's when he noticed a third Boarbatusk from the side. It was charging at him, and it was already too close to dodge. He braced his aura for impact, but Pyrrha was already on it. She launched her javelin at it with incredible force, knocking it aside. Violet took out his scythe and struck the monster from above as it was recovering. A crunch of bone, and the wicked creature started dissolving as well.

"Thanks, Pyrrha."

"Don't mention it, we are partners after all. Partners, huh…" She blushed again.

"Right."

"So, you're only sixteen? Must be hard to be away from family already. I know I was distraught when I first had to be away from them for a tournament. And that was only for one week."

"Oh, don't worry about me. If anything, It'll be impossible to avoid it. I've got two sisters starting this year with me," He was beaming at her.

"I imagine they'll take care of you then. They must be very proud of you."

"Definitely. Though, I think it'll be the other way around. One of my sisters is a year younger."

"Two years ahead? I seem to have found myself in the presence of a great huntsmen family. She must be amazing."

"Oh, for sure. She completely outclasses me when sparring. Though I'm more concerned with her fitting in here. She'll have a lot of material to catch up on, and might not be able to make as many friends." His expression grew more concerned.

Pyrrha took notice, "Are you alright? You know how those emotions are. Frowning like that will only attract more Grimm."

"Ah? Yeah, I'm fine. Just thinking."

"Were you hoping to get her as a partner?"

Violet's eyes widened a little, "It's not that big of a deal."

"That's not an answer. If you wanted someone else to join you, I'm sorry for getting in the way. It's just... how things were fated to be."

"Fated, huh?" Violet somberly looked at the sky. "Say, Pyrrha. Do you think the jump pads were rigged?"

"Rigged? What do you mean?"

"The launch pads launched us close by, yet I wasn't anywhere near you. I'm thinking that if I was Ozpin, I'd try to find the most compatible students and pair them with one another."

Pyrrha chuckled at that, "And you think we're the most compatible?" Is he really coming on to me or did I imagine that?

"I'm just thinking my little sister should make some more friends. Maybe it's for the best she has someone else as her partner. So don't worry about that thing earlier."

"Oh. Well alright. If you say so."

Still, if it truly was rigged, he suspected that Ozpin would let them end up on the same team. Either him or Yang. He tried bugging Tai for info on how the teams were made, but he didn't budge. Said it was a huntsmen secret. The internet was full of contradictory claims. Maybe it changed every year, or they're intentionally putting out false noise to the net. In either case, he had no idea what was ahead and he hated being in the dark.

His musings were interrupted by a growl from the forest. It was soon joined by a second one, and then a third. Pyrrha drew her javelin and shield, taking a fighting stance.

Violet readied the Mordred but hesitated to stand with her. "This is a dense forest, don't you think? We could get flanked without noticing like last time."

Pyrrha looked at him "That's true. Do you propose we run?"

"We're here to prove ourselves, so of course I won't run."

The growling was getting louder.

"Then what?"

"I think I see a clearing in the distance. We should go there."

She gave him a curt nod and ran opposite the direction of the Grimm. Violet followed until they found a clear patch of ground, in the middle of which they made their stand.

"So Violet, do you know what my my semblance is?" Pyrrha said.

"I'm afraid I've never seen you use it."

"You must have, I'm just subtle about it. You see, I can manipulate polarity."

"So you can alter the strikes in a duel just slightly, or jam their guns without them knowing the cause? Brilliant." Violet said.

Pyrrha smiled, "That's right. Here though, I can be a lot more open with my powers."

The Grimm caught up to them by now. There were 5 ordinary Beowolves, led by an Alpha. They slowly moved to encircle them while keeping their distance.

"I guess it's best to ask you now Violet, what is your semblance? I assume you've already discovered yours."

"And you'd be right. But I assure you, it'll be of no use against Grimm."

"Still, it can't hurt to know. I'll have to know eventually."

"I think we should talk about this later."

"Don't worry if you don't have one. Plenty of Beacon students haven't discovered their semblance, even some graduates. It's not anything shameful."

"I said I'm fine." Violet was growing irritated. He focused on tracking the Grimm that were slowly moving towards them.

Pyrrha didn't look too convinced, but decided not to press the matter further.

Once in position, the monsters charged all at once. When they came into range, Pyrrha started shooting from her rifle-javelin, downing one. Then she launched the weapon into the shoulder of a second Beowolf, wounding it before using her semblance to retrieve it.

Violet spun his scythe up and picked out a Grimm that was racing ahead of the pack. He charged ahead and struck it in the leg, immobilizing it. He then jumped up and pulled the trigger. A dust explosion propelled the Mordred into the Beowolf's skull, shattering it.

Pyrrha set her shield down and used her magnetism on it to push herself into the air. From there she threw her javelin into the previously wounded Grimm, hitting it where the heart was located, making it instantly collapse. As she let herself fall, she retrieved her weapons and landed on top of another Grimm, driving her javelin through its eye and killing it.

Absolutely amazing, Violet thought, she looks like she could take on the entire world by herself. In his awe, he was almost caught by the Alpha's claw, just barely dodging it with a Mordred explosion. He spun his weapon and struck the creature. It caught the blade with its claws. He made another explosion happen, yet the blade only got stuck further in the Grimm's hand.

The situation was made even worse by the other remaining Beowolf approaching him at an alarming speed. He tried to get the weapon out, but it wasn't budging. He abandoned it and jumped out of the Beowolf's way, but he was too late. In a single hit, his protective aura was shattered, and he was flung several meters away. He saw several shots go through the smaller Grimm's back. It fell, and a panicked Pyrrha rushed towards him. "Are you alright?"

"I'm good, focus on the Alpha. That's the last one." He got up and made some distance between him and the approaching creature.

Pyrrha's shots seemed to glance off the creature's bone plating. Although ineffective at wounding it, they had shifted its attention to her.

The Alpha charged at Pyrrha, dragging the stuck scythe behind him, the hand made useless. Violet trailed the Grimm, looking for an opportunity. "Can you distract him more Pyrrha? I'll try to make an attempt for my weapon."

"You got it." She fired off the last of her ammo in rapid succession, before throwing both her shield and javelin at it, using her semblance to accelerate them further.

The alpha covered its face to intercept the projectiles, and he growled in pain as they connected with his other arm. At that moment, Violet jumped towards his scythe, grabbing it by the top and yanking it from the hand. The alpha noticed him and made an attempt with his newly freed limb to attack him. He dodged barely in time, the creature only managing a weak glancing blow to the leg, knocking Violet to the ground. It wasted no time, turning around and swinging at him with the other hand.

That was when Pyrrha appeared behind the alpha, javelin and shield back in her hands. She stabbed through one of its legs, cutting the Achilles tendon. The creature stumbled, falling over.

Before it could recover, Violet got up and struck it down with a mighty blow from his Mordred, a fiery plume of red following the path of the strike as it cut through the neck, decapitating it.

"Say, we make a pretty good team. Isn't that right, Miss Nikos?" Violet was short of breath. He was a little confused to see her expression be that of fear instead of elation. The threat had passed, right?

She gulped, "You're bleeding, Violet."

He looked down at himself, where a sizable red stain on his thigh was spreading across his clothes. "It's not as bad as it looks. It'll be fine."

"The hell?" Pyrrha was equal parts panicked and angry. "It's not nothing, there's an artery there. If you knew your aura was so low, why did you jump back into combat? We should call for evac."

"NO!" Violet screamed at the top of his lungs. "I'd rather die than let that happen." He gripped his scythe hard as he glared at her.

Pyrrha looked concerned, "Do you… have anything for that?"

"Of course I do, Pyrrha. Who do you take me for? Ahh," He fell over in pain. "My backpack. It has a first aid kit."

Pyrrha rushed over to him, searching through his belongings. Eventually, she pulled out a standard-issue army tourniquet. Violet pulled out the knife hidden in the Mordred and used it to cut away the fabric covering the wound.

He took the tourniquet from her hand and put it around his upper thigh, fastening it as much as he could. Pyrrha stepped in, to pull it further, and stop the flow of blood completely. She then used the contents of the first aid kit to clean the wound and bandage it.

"I know my aura reserves are less than that of most other huntsmen, so I figured I'd come prepared," Violet said in between pained breaths. He moved to remove the tourniquet. "I was right. The wound wasn't that deep, we probably didn't need it at all."

Pyrrha sighed, "At least you're cautious on that front."

"What was that supposed to mean? Are you implying I'm reckless?" Violet playfully grinned at her.

Pyrrha was not amused, "Yes, that's exactly what I'm implying. What do you plan to do now?"

"I'm going to that temple, of course." He tried to stand up but Pyrrha pushed him down.

"In that state? You're hurt. Rest."

"Ugh, fine. But only for a few minutes." He looked away from her in defeat.

Seeing his expression, she sat down next to him. "There's no reason to be so glum, you did very well. That was a serious amount of Grimm. It would give a seasoned huntsman plenty of trouble."

"I know what I'm capable of. I could have done so much better."

"You don't need to prove anything to me, you know? I was told field exercises can get pretty ugly, pretty quickly. Especially for a first time excursion."

"I… I guess you're right." He stared at the sky for a while. "I wonder how Miss Princess is taking it."

"Huh? You mean the girl that was shouting on the airship?"

"Yes."

"You shouldn't hope for another person's misfortune, Violet. Before you know it, you'll become a bitter and hateful person."

He was confused at that. "But, she was so prideful and self-righteous. And something tells me she really dislikes the faunus, and-"

"So what? People can and do change. That's why we're here. To change things." She gave him a radiant smile.

His expression turned sad, "You have a strong sense of justice, I see. It's very admirable."

"I've been told that before."

"I hope to be able to see the good in people like you can. I guess we'll see what becomes of her." he smiled and shed a tear. "You know, you remind me of a certain someone."

"Let me guess, someone that you hoped would become your partner."

"You see right through me, Miss Nikos. I ought to be scared."

"Don't be silly, Violet. And will you drop the formalities? I'm just Pyrrha to you."

"Of course, Miss Nikos. Now let's get going." He attempted to stand up, with Pyrrha holding him by the shoulders. He tried a few careful steps to figure out his limits, and soon they continued on their way at a reasonable, if slower pace.

After about thirty minutes of walking and only seeing a handful of lone Grimm, they caught a glimpse of a rundown stone structure on the horizon. But as they approached it, they also heard the sounds of battle.

They exited the forest into a clearing with the temple up ahead. Just next to it, they saw a massive scorpion-like Grimm engaged in battle with about a dozen students. Ruby, Yang, Blake, and Weiss among them.

"A Deathstalker!" Pyrrha gasped.

Violet took his Mordred out and transformed it into a scythe. He grit his teeth and started running. But before he could get very far, his cloak was caught by Pyrrha. "What do you think you're doing, Violet?" She gave him an angry glare.

"You're not gonna endanger Miss Princess, are you?" He said with a sly smile, and pointed at the battle taking place.

At this, Pyrrha cracked a smile as well and charged alongside him. She used her shield and magnetism to jump onto the Deathstalker and pierce one of its eyes with her javelin. As she did that, Violet spun his scythe up, and pulled the trigger, sending the blade of the Mordred straight through the joint of one of the Grimm's many legs.

The other students were emboldened by the new reinforcements and attacked again in unison. Yang's mighty punch seemed to displace one of the creature's pincers. Blake, Ren, and Ruby unleashed a barrage of gunfire on its stinger, causing it to go limp, while Weiss unleashed a torrent of ice dust that froze another one of its legs.

Nora's hammer struck in a similar manner to Violet's, hitting the Deathstalker head on. Its armor plating was too strong, however, and it only left a crack. That was, until Ruby showed up, a whirlwind of rose petals moving at an inhuman speed. Her masterful use of the scythe pierced the weakened spot with incredible strength. As soon as she did so, the beast's movements become erratic.

But it was missing too many legs, and was quite exhausted, so its lashing out was quite impotent. A minute of kiting it and pelting it with gunfire, and it went dormant. The creature began dissolving, and everyone started celebrating.

"Vio!" Ruby sprinted to hug him, almost knocking him down. "I'm so glad to see you."

"Likewise." he smiled and ruffled her hair, "You were so cool back there, little whirlwind." he continued combing through her hair, as he looked over to Yang. She, however, didn't look quite as happy. She pointed to his leg. "The hell happened to you?" As Ruby looked down and saw the issue, she reflexively backed away.

Violet nonchalantly said, "Not a big deal, just a minor flesh wound sis."

"You'd say the same thing if your entire leg was cut off!" Yang approached him and gave him a light slap. "Who the hell let my little brother get hurt?"

"Uhhh… That would be me." A shy Pyrrha spoke up behind her.

Yang's eyes widened when she saw who she was facing, "Pyrrha Nikos? You. With him. Really?" she said in disbelief.

"I... guess so." she replied.

"Don't worry sis, I'm sure you two will get along just fine. She had a similar reaction when I did my usual… risk-taking routine."

"By that I'm sure you mean running straight into the jaws of an Ursa." Yang said.

"It was only an Alpha," Pyrrha chuckled to herself.

They approached the ruined temple to find a collection of chess pieces spread out. So those were the relics he was asked to retrieve? Violet chuckled to himself and immediately went to look for a king piece. Finding a black king unattended, he grabbed it without thinking twice.

An aircraft soon arrived to pick them up and take them back to Beacon. Before long, the students were arranged with their partners, awaiting an announcement regarding the teams. Violet was glad that Ruby and Yang were put on the same team. He was not so thrilled to see the icy princess with them though. The Blake girl remained a mystery as well. She seems promising, and since she's on my sister's team, I could get close to her.

What truly baffled him was Ozpin's announcement that the newly named team RWBY would be led by none other than the fifteen year old Ruby Rose. As much as he liked his hyperactive sister, she did not have an aptitude for leadership. Or talking in general. What the hell was Ozpin thinking? His misgivings were lessened however as he noticed Weiss' shocked face. Maybe that headmaster does have a point, he thought, her pride needs to take a beating. Otherwise, she'll constantly try to walk over the rest of the team.

The time came for his team to be announced. He was joined by a certain Nora Valkyrie and a Lie Ren. He shook hands with them and exchanged pleasantries, before being interrupted by Ozpin.

"The name of the team shall be… PRVN, with Violet Rose as its leader." At that, Violet was overcome with a sense of triumph. Yes, things are going perfectly thus far. The world already seems a much smaller place, just ripe for the taking.
