Welcome to the next chapter of DxD – The Last Amagiri, but before starting the story. Let's answer some reviews:
altajir95: That's their usual bit with one another, I wonder who's going to win that bed in the end. Kensei did end up saving everyone's favorite tsundere, and Alice's artwork is starting to spread around the Underworld. He and Ravel started hitting it off with one another on a far friendlier level, and even tried to find out who poisoned her. Riser is still being Riser and not giving Kensei the respect he's due and tried making him jealous, while Kensei walked away, then Riser was punished. During this incident, Kensei is going to show how much he's grown.
Slimereader11: Thanks.
Amagiri versus Phenex
"And that was how I defeated the three onis, who attempted to crash my third-grade field trip," Kensei spoke as he sat there sipping tea. "The most embarrassing thing to an oni aside from beating them using their own kanabo is not returning it to them."
"Hehehe, is that really the most embarrassing thing, Kensei-sama?"
Ravel laughed as she heard that from him.
Both she and him were outside in a peaceful-looking area near the Phenex Clan castle, where there were various beautiful-looking flowers around them. They were sitting down at an area prepared for leisurely times like this as tea and snacks in-between them.
"Yea, they might not look like it, but some oni treasures their kanabo. You should've seen the look on their faces when I said that I wouldn't be giving them back."
"Well, I've never personally met an oni before so I wouldn't have guessed that they would have that reaction. Our group doesn't get many chances to venture to places like Japan for leisure."
Ravel said pointed out as she took a sip from her tea.
"If that's the case, then I wouldn't mind showing you around Japan."
Kensei added as he took a bite from the snacks laid out in front of him, surprised about the sweetness that was a good match for the tea. His response was as casual as possible, but Ravel looked stunned as if she didn't expect something like that from him.
"A-Are you sure about that? I wasn't attempting to say that I wanted do, n-not that I wouldn't want to if that's the case."
Ravel replied, saying that tone in a more tsundere manner.
"Even if I do end up finishing this request that doesn't mean that I still wouldn't want to have friendly ties with you, and your family. Aside from Riser, I quite like talking to all of you," Kensei stated as the snack's taste hit him again causing a smile to form on his face. "I'm sorry, but these tea and snacks are too good. I think that whoever made these should receive a raise."
"U-Uh, a-actually, I…."
At that praise from the tea and snacks, Ravel looked a little flustered as she started poking her fingers together in a nervous manner.
"Hmm? What?"
"I actually made this."
Ravel revealed surprising Kensei who stared at Ravel, already knowing that she wouldn't lie about something like this. But, it looked as if she taking his silence as something else as she seemed to have started to panic, and waved her hands around.
"I-I just had some time in my evening to make them. Y-You should feel grateful that I took the time to do this!"
Ravel said crossing her arms as she glanced to the side away from him, causing Kensei to laugh.
"I don't have a problem with that. As a matter of fact, I think that it's impressive that you're able to make tea and snacks better than the people working for you. I wouldn't mind having more moments like this."
Hearing that comment from him, caused Ravel to calm down a bit as she turned back around, and looked happy about that response.
"Well, then I suppose that I can grace you with more of my talents. Ohohoho!"
Ravel spoke proudly like a princess, which amused Kensei, who also found it adorable.
"My, don't you two look like you're having quite some fun here?"
Lady Phenex said as she arrived in the garden finding her daughter laughing as she was having some fun talking to Kensei. She was surprised about the short amount of time that it took for Ravel to become comfortable in front of Kensei. But, Lady Phenex, Ruval, and her husband were the same in that regard, not expecting to find the young man this likable.
"Oh, Okaa-sama, would you like to join us?"
"Ufufufu, don't mind if I do. I am interested in hearing the conversation that has gotten my daughter this invested into listening to it."
"I was just sharing some stories with Ravel. I was just going to tell her about the time I got into a prank war with a Dragon King when I was ten."
"Ara, a prank war with one of the Dragon Kings," Lady Phenex found herself laughing at the idea of that as she prepared a cup of tea and listen to this tale. "I see you're also enjoying the tea that my daughter made. I just so happened to see her in the kitchen, and it seemed as if she was nervous about…."
"O-Okaa-sama, th-there's no need to say something like that!"
Ravel declared flustered as she stared at her mother exasperated that she mentioned something like that, while Kensei seemed to be enjoying the dynamic between mother and daughter.
"Ara, it appears as if I mentioned something needlessly."
Kensei could see that Lady Phenex was enjoying her daughter's reaction, who looked downwards flustered, she, on the other hand, seemed to be drinking her tea like a proper woman.
"So, before Ravel becomes anymore flustered than this," Ravel didn't like that Kensei blatantly brought it up. "So, to start this tale, I believe that I need to mention that dragon, and I ended up getting a good scolding afterward. It all started after Yu-Long stole a portion of the food…."
"Hey, you."
"And I'll return to it as soon as I handle this," Kensei said placing the teacup on the table and took note of Riser's presence as he arrived. "Is there anything that you need, Riser?"
"I still have doubts whether or not you're the right person who can protect my sister."
"I pretty much figured that out from our conversation yesterday, which later turned to you attempting to make me jealous by groping your Queen right in front of me. I'm going to give you a heads up for future reference, I'm not a childish enough person to get mad over something like that."
Ravel looked a little exasperated at her brother for attempting something like that, and his mother sent him a light sharp look for an intense, causing Riser to shutter.
"W-Well, g-good, I would have doubted your character if something like that affected you," Riser tried making that his reason for the previous incident, but Ravel didn't buy that for a second. "Either way, I was planning on going to see my lovely Rias. You likely don't know…."
"Rias Gremory, Sirzechs' younger sister. Even if I haven't met them, I know the names of a lot of different people here inside the Underworld, because of my dad."
"So, I'm sure you'll be jealous to know someone of her beauty and status as chosen to be my fiancée."
"Well, seeing how you act. I kinda feel sorry for her."
That comment caused Riser to glare at him, wearing an irritated look on his face from the clear disrespect from a human of all people. Neither Ravel nor Lady Phenex wanted to intervene in this little spat between them almost a little curious about how it would turn out.
"T-This union between us is important for the Underworld's future, and bringing up the number of pure-blooded devils. So, it isn't something that a human could understand."
"You know, I thought this had something to do with you not seeing me as worthy enough to protect your sister. It looks as if you're attempting to make me jealous again," Kensei brought up not knowing how things escalated to this point. "I know how serious things are in maintaining your numbers. There are clans in Japan that do the same thing, to ensure children inherit their parent's strong genes. I have five fiancées who I love and plan on marrying."
Riser and Ravel looked stunned after hearing that, but for different reasons, on the other hand, Lady Phenex wore an interesting look on her face.
"Y-You," Riser seemed as if he were unable to come up with a single response as he pointed at Kensei. "S-Show me the proof! Even then, I bet none of them are close to as beautiful as…."
Before Riser could even finish, his face was blown apart as Kensei casually punched Riser, while his fist was covered in a little bit of aura. Ravel seemed surprised about that, not that she was worried or mad since Riser kinda deserved it, and he should be regenerating any second. Not even Lady Phenex looked mad about it, more so as she believed her son deserved that one.
Kensei didn't even stand up from his seat to launch that punch using his left hand, which he retracted.
"That was quite the punch. I barely noticed it until I saw it right in front of Riser-oniisama."
Ravel said impressed as Kensei returned to his usual position, but looked more serious after thinking about the comment.
"I'll forgive or forget about any insult directed at me, it wouldn't be the first time. But, an insult to the people that I care about isn't something that I forgive. I want you to remember that."
"That's so mature and cool!"
Ravel seemed to have liked hearing those words since he didn't lose his temper, but also wouldn't allow an insult to someone important to him to slide. Her eyes even seemed to be sparkling at that moment as Riser's face healed to normal as a groan escaped from his mouth.
"Kensei-san, I wanted to…."
"I apologize, but there's something that I need to do first."
Kensei interrupted Lady Phenex as he pulled out his Oracle Phone, then contacted Alice, who happened to be at the top of his contact list.
"Hey, Alice, am I interrupting your painting?"
[Hello, Kensei. Not this time, I'm waiting for Claire and the others to prepare to watch some new movie. Is there something wrong on your end?]
"Not particularly, but I ended up decking Riser."
[Just now?] Alice asked as there was a pause as she realized something. [That means, I have won the bet. I chose the closest time to predict when you'd punch him. I have to thank you for that one, Kensei.]
"Hahaha, good for you," Kensei said in a faux happy tone as Ravel and Lady Phenex wondered what they were talking about. "I'm so happy that you won the bet that was placed behind my back by the people I thought would always have my back."
[Don't sound so mad about it. If you feel that way, then I'll personally make it up to you when you come back.]
Kensei was surprised about how sultry Alice sounded at that moment, which almost even caused his heart to skip a beat.
"Fine, whatever. I'll talk to you later."
After that short exchange, both he and Alice hung up the phone, but Kensei couldn't help wondering what she was planning.
"What's this about a bet?"
Ravel asked curiously.
"Right, so the jerks I call my friends and even my lovers all made a bet to see how long it would take for me to hit Riser here. And one of my fiancées won," Kensei replied before respectfully bowing his head. "I apologize if that sounds disrespectful, and for actually doing it."
"Ara, that's definitely something. But, I have to apologize for Riser's rudeness once again, my third child is quite a hotheaded one," Lady Phenex bowed her head as an apology as Riser stood up to his feet rubbing his head, and groaned. "Riser, I do believe that I said before, but don't be rude to others. If you have your own feelings on the matter that's one thing, but I won't tolerate you acting in this matter."
"B-But, Okaa-san, I…."
"I know a solution to solve this situation."
Kensei pointed out as he directed his attention at Riser.
"And what solution would that be. Do you want to settle this with a fight?"
"You're half right," Kensei replied before standing right in front of Riser with a confident smirk on his face. "I want to fight you and your entire peerage, not counting Ravel here. It wouldn't be right for a bodyguard to fight against the person he's attempting to protect."
Riser, Ravel, and Lady Phenex all looked stunned about that suggestion from Kensei who didn't appear to find it as an odd thing.
"Y-You're actually asking to fight against me and my entire peerage," Riser said stunned before laughing a laugh escape from his mouth. "You're kidding me, right?! Even if you don't include Ravel, that still makes it fifteen devils against one human! Do you really think that you can defeat all of us?"
"Kensei-sama are you sure about this. I know that you aren't inept in a battle, but you'll be fighting against Riser-oniisama and his entire peerage alone."
"This is all that I can think of to get him off my back," Kensei said pointing his thumb at Riser, causing him to give him a harsh glare from the disrespect. "It might change his mind if I mopped the floor with just him. But, it'll prove that I can defend you from an unknown person, who might not be working alone too. Besides, I have been fighting a large number of people solo since I was eight."
"I see," Ravel understood what Kensei meant about that as her mother was staring on interested in the situation. "There is a chance that we could be dealing with more than just one person whose intentions and alignment is still unknown. Kensei-sama can prove himself even more capable if he defeats Riser-oniisama and his peerage who uses an assortment of different tactics through working together. I completely understand Kensei-sama's reasons for this. And besides, this is the best opportunity to see what Kensei-sama can do."
Ravel seemed hyped to see what Kensei can do in an actual fight, which was something that didn't go unnoticed by Lady Phenex, who seemed interested in it too.
"Hahaha, fine, I'll allow this. And I'll prove that you're not the right person to protect Ravel. I'll give you an hour to enjoy the rest of your time here because you'll soon be leaving."
"Yea, we'll see about that."
Kensei didn't sound cocky or arrogant about that, instead of being casual about the entire thing as Riser walked off with the belief, it was his victory. Seeing that he was gone, he turned back around as if nothing happened, before picking up the teacup.
"So, moving back onto that story."
"Wait, Kensei-san are you sure about wanting to fight against Riser and his peerage," Lady Phenex asked placing her teacup on the table. "Thus far, Riser fought in ten Rating Games and lost twice, but those times it was on purpose since he had close ties with the opponent's households. He is also among the candidates who might receive a title in the future."
"I'm sure. He is a strong and talented devil from a good household who competed in Rating Games, but he isn't at the level where I can't beat him. Besides, I can tell that despite being effective the Phenex's immortality isn't an absolute thing, and I know how to counter it. And one more thing…."
"And what would that be?"
Lady Phenex asked with interest.
"He might be undefeated in Rating Games, but I have been in real battles from the time I was eight," Kensei said in a confident tone, again without sounding arrogant, which was something that the two found endearing. "Now, I think that you two wanted to hear how I bested a Dragon King in a Prank War."
"Yes, I'm interested in hearing this story."
Ravel said excitedly, causing her mother to smile at her daughter's reaction as Kensei started telling them about the Prank War between him and Yu-Long. Both ladies of the Phenex Household were enjoying themselves while listening to the silliest tale they've heard since.
An hour later, Kensei found himself standing in an open field located inside the Phenex's territory, which was big enough to act as a battlefield without being worried. Standing on one end was Kensei, and on the other end, was Riser and his peerage aside from Ravel. After arriving there, Kensei set up a barrier around the area where their battle would be taking place so no outside damage would occur.
Standing outside the barrier were Riser's parents, Ravel, and Ruval who all stood on the sidelines watching the entire situation before it was starting. A sigh escaped from his oldest brother's mouth as he stared forward, not really all that surprised about what was happening.
"Riser, what is this going to prove?"
Ruval asked with a sigh escaping his mouth.
"This is going to prove that he isn't strong enough to protect Ravel," Riser replied pointing at Kensei without him losing his confidence. "So, I'll personally see that he's sent back to the Human World where he belongs."
"Is that how you thank someone for healing our sister?"
"Hah, I said the same thing to him!"
Kensei pointed out laughing as he held the sheathed Kurogane in his hands, causing Riser to give him a look full of irritation.
"You also called me a 'shithead'!"
"Yea, I did that too."
His casual response to that caused flames to flicker around Riser.
"There is still time for you to accept that you aren't qualified to protect Ravel, and return where you belong before you get hurt! All of my lovely servants are talented devils with experience in the Rating Games, and there haven't been most opponents who could handle them working together. But, you, a human plan on fighting against all of them alone."
"If you treat me like a normal human, then you're going to be in a world of hurt. I'll gladly take on whatever tactic or attack you have in your pocket," Kensei stated as he held Kurogane in his hand as he pointed at the barrier. "I am a descendant of a clan of power users and samurai. I'll be spitting on my lineage if that was enough to scare me. If you really want me gone, then come at me with everything you've got."
Hearing the confident tone from Kensei almost unnerved Riser, but not enough to get him to stop this match, not after he came this far. In his head, no one could protect his sister as much as him, and he wanted to pay back the people who injured her in the first place.
Seeing that it wasn't going to end, Lord Phenex, Lady Phenex, Ravel, and Ruval all took seats prepared for them outside of the barrier to see this. Ruval knew that Riser wouldn't back down from this situation, more so since he could guess his youngest brother's feelings about relying on someone else to protect their younger sister.
"So, Otou-sama how do you feel about this situation?"
"Well, I could see this happening based on Riser's reaction in their first encounter. If this hadn't happened, then his aggression toward Kensei-san would continue until the situation is handled. So, this will be the easiest way to handle this. Besides…."
"Besides, what?"
"I'm sure you're interested in seeing what Kensei-san is capable of in a fight. Most of what I heard about Tetsuo-dono's exploits is from stories about him, and I'm going to witness how strong his oldest child is. I don't doubt him at all, but I want to see what he's capable of firsthand," Lord Phenex replied interested in seeing this fight. "Besides, it might be a good lesson for Riser to learn."
"I am interested in seeing how strong Kensei-san is. And I hope that Riser learns this lesson soon since there are monsters in the Rating Game, who he'll come face-to-face with at some point if he continues competing in it. And if he severe experiences a defeat, then it might break his confidence."
Ruval replied, showing his brotherly side.
He was concerned that his youngest brother would fall apart if he suffers a brutal defeat against an opponent where his immortality wouldn't save him. And he has seen some pure-bloods from time to time who did fell apart after being defeated despite their inborn talents.
"Ravel, are you interested in seeing this match. I know that you've been getting quite close to Kensei-san since meeting him for the first time."
Ravel could hear the teasing tone in her mother's voice, causing Ravel to flinch a bit before recovering.
"W-Well, it would be disappointing if Kensei-sama ended up being defeated. N-Not that I'm worried for anything, I am simply interested in seeing what he's capable of in a fight."
Ravel answered her mother in a tsundere manner, but she still looked forward with interest in the match, being a lot more focused on Kensei. She didn't want to show it to anyone else, but on the inside, it was almost unbearable that she had to wait to see some of what he was capable of in a fight. Similar to her other relatives, Ravel didn't share the same biased toward humans as Riser did. She heard a lot about heroes among humans who became recorded in legends even now.
"Kensei-sama has already shown to have a particular set of skills, which is the reason I'm excited to seeing what he's like in an actual battle."
Ravel conveyed her thoughts internally as she looked forward with great interest.
Inside the barrier, Kensei was standing there holding Kurogane beside him as he finished casually stretching his arms around. He could tell at a glance at the fourteen girls in front of him were, in fact, experienced in battle, and a lot of them were stronger than average servants.
"I can immediately tell from looking at them that Riser chose them based on their looks, and particular types. But, I have to admit that he did choose very talented girls," Kensei surmised as he sheathed Kurogane beside him as he could tell something else. "But, something is missing about them and their King."
"Are you prepared for this, human?"
"I have a name, but sure. As soon as someone is unable to continue fighting, I'll send them outside of the barrier since it is the same thing we use for training purposes. And it also ends if someone is knocked out of bound. So, you can all come at me together with everything that you've got if that's what you want."
Riser looked irritated as Kensei still didn't look the slightest bit terrified about the fact he'll be facing both him and his entire peerage. Looking forward to seeing him gone, he turned his attention to three young-looking girls standing beside the others.
"Mira, Ile, and Nel, you three are up first. And since this fight isn't a Rating Game, you three have my permission to use promotion."
"Yes, Riser-sama."
Mira replied bowing her head.
""Kay.""
And Ile and Nel cheerfully replied as they carried around chainsaws in their hands.
"Chainsaws? Well, that isn't something I see often, if not at all."
Kensei uttered as he stared at the opponents approaching him.
Mira was a blue-haired young girl who looked young enough to be in junior high, dressed in Japanese wear. And the twins, Ile and Nel were turquoise-haired girls who dressed in school gym uniforms typically found in a normal high school. All three of them used the Pawn's promotion, then went straight to Queen without wasting time.
"Well, I happily accept you, three young girls, as my opponents."
Kensei said respectfully after noticing that Mira stood in front of him holding a wooden staff for martial artists in her hands, but didn't respond. He could see that she was quite adept at using a bo staff, but he still didn't unsheathe Kurogane and instead held it in his hands.
"…."
Mira narrowed her eyes as she stepped forward using the Knight's speed, shortening the distance as she thrusts her staff forward aiming straight for his abdomen. To her surprise, she didn't hit him, instead, he blocked the strike using the sheath, and more so, it didn't budge an inch. It didn't last long as she kept pressing forward attacking him using various staff techniques ranging from constant thrusts or sweeps aimed at his legs. However, none of the attacks made contact with him, as he either blocked using the sheath, dodged, or jumped.
"Hah!"
Mira continued as she made countless attempts at attacking him using her bo staff, using the Knight's trait to increase her attack speed. But, none of them were able to make a single dent in his defenses as Kensei hasn't even moved from his previous position.
"You're quite skilled for your age. But, you need a little bit more training."
Kensei stated as he avoided as even Mira could hear that he wasn't condescending or anything, instead it sounded like sound advice.
""Disassembling time~""
He heard the familiar found of something revving up, accompanied by the sounds of engines coming alive as the Chainsaw Twins, Ile and Nel came charging at him. After feeling them coming, Kensei turned his body aside they came swinging at him using their chainsaws. Mira moved back as the twins came in using their chainsaws, then all three joined in on attempting to attack him.
However, like before, he avoided their attacks using what seemed to be casual footwork as neither of them was able to strike him once. Not even a single strand of hair or clothing came from him as he continued avoiding them as if it was nothing.
"Ah, jeez! This is so frustrating~!"
"Stop avoiding our attacks, and let us hit you?!"
Ile and Nel were getting frustrated as they rushed towards him once more using their chainsaws.
"Alright. I'll stand right here."
Kensei agreed as he stood in the same position casually much to their surprise as their chainsaws came towards him, and as promised he remained there.
"Hahaha, are you insane?!"
Riser was laughing at that Kensei remaining there but was surprised as he held up his hand as if he was looking to catch them. However, the third son threw that theory aside since no one would be insane enough to catch two chains without being capable of regenerating like him. But—
"He's actually planning on catching them?!"
Riser's eyes almost bulged out as Kensei really caught the chainsaws in his hands.
"What kind of person does something like that?"
Yubelluna said as dumbfounded as her King.
Everyone was surprised, but more so since there wasn't blood spilled from his hands, instead the blades sparked as if colliding against something. Kensei didn't look concerned as he felt onto the blades without being concerned about the rotating blades cutting him. Soon enough, the blades stopped moving as it was noted that a blue aura was wrapped around his hands keeping them from being harmed.
"Eh?"
"Huh?"
Ile and Nel looked surprised since it was the first time that someone remained in place, and caught it.
"You two work together well since you're sisters. But, you should work on being more focused in a fight."
Kensei said as he snatched the chainsaws from their hands before either of them could react, then tossed them out of the barrier. It was then that Mira came in from behind in an attempt to assist her teammates using a swing of her bo staff aimed at his side. She thought she attacked him, but his image seemed to fade, revealing that she attacked an afterimage.
The genuine one appeared behind the twins as all three girls looked to be lined up together in a straight line, and opened his palm. He stood in position as the three girls were turning to see what he was going to do and before either of them could react Ile was struck with a palm strike. She was blown toward her sister and Mira without the slightest bit of resistance.
[Iyaaah!]
All three girls were sent flying outside of the barrier, leaving them without the chance to even spread their wings to balance themselves. Despite them unable to use their wings, Mira, Ile, and Nel were still stopped in mid-air as their bodies were placed gently on the ground in front of the three viewers. They were all in a sitting position with dumbfounded expressions on their faces. It was the first time that anything like that had happened.
It didn't take the others long to realize that Kensei had done that as his hand was directed towards them as soon as he sent them flying.
"Alright, those three had some good moves for their ages. So, let's keep this going."
Kensei said without seeming tired despite just fighting against three people.
"Y-You," Riser couldn't help seeming surprised about what happened right in front of him. "Don't start getting cocky since he managed to beat them. Those three aren't among my strongest servants."
Mira, Ile, and Nel were loyal to Riser to the end, but hearing that was something that hurt their pride a bit.
"There's still room for development for them. If you want to know the issue, I'll tell you after this battle fight is over and done with."
"Tsk, Ni and Li. I permit you to promote!"
Next, the blue and red-haired nekomata came up letting a 'Nyaa~' escape their mouths, before like the others had promoted straight to Queen. And moments later, Ni and Li came straight for him using rather agile movements, a trait he'd expect from a nekomata strengthened using a Knight trait. He raised his hand blocking a punch from Ni and raised his arm blocking a kick from Li.
The twin nekomata were surprised about this, but neither stopped their assault as the nekomata continued doing an assortment of assaults together. But, their assaults like with their fellow Pawns were all blocked or deflected by Kensei using his arms or legs.
"Nya! I'm sure we're using both the Knight and Rook traits for our attacks, but we're not able to get a single hit in on him!"
Ni looked frustrated that even working together neither of them could get a clear hit on Kensei.
"Nya! Let's just do what we normally do to handle opponents like this!"
Li added as Ni understood with those words meant, and the twin nekomata kept on with their joined assault as Kensei kept handling both of them.
""Take this, nyaa~!""
Ni and Li stood prepared to hit him using a stronger attack, with Kensei moving to block it again, causing a smirk to appear on their faces. Seconds later, the two nekomata altered their attacks going along with the flow of it, and instead aimed low kicks using the Rook trait at his legs. Both of them knew that no one would be able to move if struck in their legs, and planned their next attacks in their hands.
However, it didn't go as planned as their low kicks didn't seem to hit anything aside from empty air as the catgirls wondered what happened. It didn't last long as they noticed Kensei flipped into the air despite his position, then landed on his hands without any issues.
"That was good cooperation. But, I know a nekoshou who's more nimble than that."
Kensei replied as he lifted himself from off the ground, then landed on his feet without trouble as Ni and Li went in for another high kick aimed for his upper body. Again, their attacks hit the air as they looked down to see him now balancing on his hands again. He started moving again aiming a sweeping kick aimed at their lower legs, causing him to be flung into the air. Both nekomata wondered how someone, a male, in fact, was able to move around as nimble as that without trouble.
""Nyaa~!""
Similar to the other three Pawns, the twin nekomata was knocked outside of the barriers as Kensei struck both of them using his elbows. Instead of landing on their butts, the twin nekomata landed on the ground almost like real cats as they were wondering what just happened.
"Huh, I haven't seen many nekomata lands like actual cats aside from Hisui. So, who's…."
As Kensei wondered that, he looked to see a fist sailing toward him from one side, and the other side was a sharp kick. Despite being short notice, he managed to avoid both attacks using footwork at the last second, but it was noted both attacks cut through the air.
"Straight to the point, I like that."
Kensei said as he stood in a prepared stance as he noticed that his opponents were Isabela and Xuelan, both of whom he could tell were Rooks.
He could tell that the two of them were among the strongest in the group, Xuelan giving off the impression of her being equal to a Queen. It appears as if the two of them were more strong as individuals rather than working with one another as unique.
"Are you sure that you'll be capable of continuing like this after moving around so much?"
Isabela asked as she stood in a stance meant for a boxer.
"I'm not worried about that. I once fought an entire armed group for half an hour when I was ten years old."
Kensei replied, causing Isabela to smirk a little wryly.
"What kind of mini-monster were you?"
"Well, people did start of calling me the Dragon Child, and that was part of the reason."
"Well, it looks like this will be a fun fight!"
Isabela stepped forward at a speed that he wouldn't expect from a Rook, aiming a sharp straight punch for him.
He avoided it but noticed that the punch cut through the air a bit showcasing the strength poured into that punch, and her skills were above the Pawns he fought before. Isabela then started moving around like a boxer aiming an assortment of punches and kicks at various angles at Kensei. Each time that he blocked or deflecting he felt the force behind each attack, which wasn't something that he couldn't handle.
Just as Isabela was aiming a kick at him, he felt Xuelan coming in behind him, her fist was covered in arms as a sharp punch aimed at him. Her fighting style was based around Chinese Kenpo almost similar to what he learned and aimed for his blindspot.
"I have to admit this is a good combo. Both are Rooks who are quick on their feet, in addition to their strength and defense. They're quite well-rounded."
Kensei though not worried about the counterattack as he already moved to avoid both of them using something that neither of them expected at all. Using flexibility neither of them expected from him, he kicked Xuelan's strike, redirecting it and causing a fire blast to be released from it.
"Kuh!"
She was surprised about the sudden counter-attack, but Xuelan maintained her balance at much as possible. There was a great deal of strength put into that attack, which would be felt on her wrist.
"Well, that was something unexpected. I never met a man able to do a kick and bend like that," Isabela spoke in a surprised tone as she recalled all the movements. "I came here thinking that I was fighting a swordsman, but to think that you could do this well in a fistfight."
"I do prefer sword fights, but I have trained in other martial arts too."
"Chinese Kenpo is one of them, right," Xuelan guessed right as she stepped back still in a prepared stance as flames flickered off her fists. "I doubt there are many martial arts in Japan that focus on being that flexible on a moment's notice."
"You wouldn't be wrong. I learned the basics of three Chinese martial arts from my second instructor, and added their exercises to my training regimen."
Kensei replied as Xuelan didn't doubt those words based on how he fought.
"I have the feeling that you've been holding back this entire time. If you wanted to, you could've beaten down the others a lot worse than that, but you didn't do that."
"I'm not the kind of person who does unneeded harm to someone who isn't an enemy to me, but that also doesn't I'm don't give opponents my full attention."
Neither Isabela nor Xuelan wanted to utter the words, but the two couldn't help feeling some kind of respect for the person standing in front of them.
"Well, I hope that you won't end up losing because of that mentality! I'd rather take a serious attack if I'm defeated by someone so don't hold back."
Isabela said with more vigor as she stepped forward holding her fists beside one another as she thrust a straight jab at Kensei. But, instead of being a normal jab, demonic power covered her fist, which was something meant to further augment its destructive power at a single point.
"Alright, even that would end up hurting me if I tried physically taking it head-on."
Kensei noted as he stood in a prepared stance with his fist beside him as Isabela's fist sailed towards him, while a blue aura gathered around his fist. Both of them thrust their fists forward at the same time, and collided against each other, triggering a shockwave between them.
"Kuh, to think he could cancel out the attack like that."
Isabela thought as she felt as if their attacks canceled out each other.
"I've never been one to reject a request from an opponent! So here it comes!"
Kensei said as his fist was covered in a blue aura again, which was more fierce this time as he knocked Isabela outside of the barrier as traces amount blood escaped from her mouth.
Despite being punched like that, Isabela was satisfied with how the battle ended as she landed on the ground.
"I hope that you didn't forget that I'm here too!"
Xuelan said as she aimed a flame-covered punch at Kensei, who avoided it as a smirk appeared on his face.
"Of course, I didn't forget that."
Hearing that brought some relief in her heart as she was facing this time as a person as if a flame was lit.
After regaining her balance, Xuelan stepped toward him aiming various swift fists and kicks, which were ignited in flames. Each of them was sharp and well-trained, something that Kensei couldn't help admire as a martial artist himself. Kensei still handled the attacks as Xuelan tried attacking him in places that he hadn't been blocking, but it was difficult breaking through his defenses. After turning on her heel, Xuelan spins herself around adding more force onto her kick, which she aimed directly at Kensei's abdomen.
However, he raised his leg and aimed a kick of his own to collide against hers, causing them to stand there in a balanced stance.
"Impressive. I can see that you've kept on training her Chinese Kenpo despite becoming a devil."
"Of course. But, could you explain the reason that you've been giving out advice throughout their entire match," a curious tone could be heard from her statement. "You're not our King, as a matter of fact, our King has nothing short of hostility towards you. So, what's the purpose of that."
"Well, it's kinda habit. I started training different people for years in martial arts, so it kinda becomes a habit when I'm against someone who I see can improve on things. Some of them were people younger than me, so I gained the habit of going easier on people younger than me."
"I see."
Xuelan as if accepting that answer stepped back, then stood in a prepared stance.
Kensei could see that Xuelan was preparing for her final strike based on her stance as flames circled her fist. Deciding to respond in kind, he stood in a stance as water gathered around his opened palm. Xuelan knew it might result in her defeat, however, she still pressed forward.
"Hah!"
Letting out a strong shout, Xuelan thrust her fist forward towards Kensei who aimed his palm forward toward her flaming fist. Once their attacks collided against one another, the most obvious conclusion occurred as Xuelan's flames were extinguished, and she was blasted outside of the barrier.
"Alright, that's seven down."
Kensei said not seeming tired at all from fighting against seven people consecutively.
Riser was watching the entire situation almost irritated seeing that seven of his fifteen servants were being taken down as he grit his teeth.
"Karlamine, Siris."
Every one of them could hear that despite his attempts at maintaining his composure was starting to lose himself to the irritation he was feeling.
"Yes, Riser-sama!"
"Affirmative."
Karlamine responded respectfully, and Siris responded almost emotionally.
Both of them stepped forward as Kensei was preparing for the assault from the Knight Duo this time, but then he noticed that Karlamine was the first person to speak.
"I am Karlamine, Riser Phenex-sama's Knight! And I humbly request a sword battle!"
"How chivalrous. I know a certain girl who'd love to meet you," Kensei said as he finally brought Kurogane out of its sheath, then pointed it towards the two Knights. "Since I'm fighting against sword-wielding Knights it's a given that I'd fight using my sword too. If I don't use Kurogane once, then it'll start become rambunctious later on."
"I'm happy that a warrior like you came here!"
Karlamine said as she charged forward toward Kensei slashing her sword downwards, which he blocked raising Kurogane in the air. In response to that, their swords clashing against each other, sparks started flying in the air as their edges scraped against each other. It soon progressed to Karlamine rushing at him using her Knight trait to a high degree, which he matched to using his own speed.
Most people couldn't perceive most of their moves since the two were moving at high speeds, but those who were capable of doing so could see the skills in each strike. But, as soon as the two stopped moving at such speeds, it was shown that Karlamine was released various slashes at him, which Kensei kept blocking using Kurogane.
"So, Ravel what do you think about your bodyguard," Lady Phenex asked as she leaned towards her daughter, but she was surprised that she didn't get an answer. "Ravel?"
As Lady Phenex was wondering the reason that her daughter wasn't responding as she looked over to see what she was doing. She almost couldn't help smiling as she noticed her daughter was almost enamored by what she was seeing at the moment. It appeared as if Ravel didn't hear the question at all as a matter of fact.
"You're quite the swordsman! I never fought against someone who was half as good as you! I dare say you're a far better swordsman than I am!"
"You're honest and straightforward," Kensei said in the midst of clashing against Karlamine who was charging at him using high-speed. "And your partner."
Kensei pulled out Kurogane's sheath and blocked Siris' downward slash from her zweihänder after attempting to hit him in his blindspot.
"Loyal and straightforward. I like that too."
"…."
Siris didn't respond as she simply stared forward.
Kensei could tell that she didn't have the same honor code that Karlamine did and simply fought for winning for her King. It wasn't something that he had a particular issue with since it showed that she was loyal to her King. He stepped back from the two Knights as he still holds onto Kurogane and its sheath as if preparing to use both of them in a dual-wielding manner.
"Karlamine, we're fighting for our King, not our own pleasure. So, we're going to defeat this opponent as ordered."
Sirius spoke stoically as she prepared her zweihänder.
"…fine."
Karlamine did have some personal issues with it since she did want to fight, but was also honor-bound as a Knight to follow her King's desires. Both Knights stood side-by-side with each other, then moved forward toward Kensei, who didn't look worried at all. At that moment, he started fighting against both the Knights' attacks using Kurogane and also its sheath as a weapon.
"I find it hard to believe that a sheath is strong enough to handle my sword."
"It's made from a special wood found in the craftsman's forest. So, it's going to take more than that to break it."
Kensei replied to Siris as she blocked her zweihänder using his sheath, causing her to move back from him in an attempt to gain distance.
As Kensei was preoccupied fighting against Karlamine, Siris prepared to swing zweihänder using both her hands as she strengthened her grip.
"Hah!"
Siris slashed her sword using her strength and speed, releasing a shockwave towards him. Noticing this, he ended up pushing Karlamine back causing her to almost lose her balance. Before Siris' attack could come in contact with him, Kensei prepared to slash Kurogane. And from a single slash, he released a slash towards hers, resulting in his overcoming hers.
"Kuh!"
Realizing the situation, Siris moved aside as Kensei's slash smashed against the barrier surrounding all of them, resulting in an impact that lightly shook it.
"Yea, so, I can do that too."
Kensei replied causing Siris to narrow her eyes toward him.
She and Karlamine rushed at Kensei again as he continued fighting against them using Kurogane and its sheath in a two-sword style. All of them kept fighting at high speed and moving around, although neither of the Knights at that moment could get in a clean hit on him. However, their movements were stopped again as Kensei blocked their swords again in the same position.
"Hahaha, I can see a lot of potential in all Riser's servants. But, it's kinda sad since…," Kensei said sensing that something that going to happen before either Karlamine or Siris. "…crap."
"Ahh!"
"Kuh!"
Both Karlamine and Siris were knocked outside of the barrier by Kensei before either realized what was going on causing them to lose that match. Just as the two were removed from the barrier, there was an explosion that covered the entire section where Kensei stood.
"Kensei-sama!"
Ravel said worried knowing full well where that explosion originated from, even Karlamine and Siris realized what occurred. There was one person among the peerage who would do something like that if it meant defeating their opponents for their King.
"Well, I wasn't expecting that one. But, I still hit my mark."
Yubelluna floated in the barrier using her devil wings, and her hand raised showing that she used demonic power to create that large explosion. There was a great deal of smoke surrounding the section of the barrier where their opponent was standing.
"To think that a human dared attempt to…."
"You should confirm whether or not your attack worked before getting all haughty."
Kensei spoke from inside of the smoke as it started clearing.
He stood there in the same position that he'd been standing before the smoke cleared, causing Yubelluna to look on surprised about what she was seeing. Kensei stood there with nothing but superficial wounds on him despite it being a direct attack, not even his uniform looked damaged at all. Of course, it's what you'd expect from a uniform made with techniques from the Norse World, which is one of the factions known for crafting things. So, it would take more than that kind of attack to damage it.
"H-How're you uninjured despite taking a head-on blast?"
Yubelluna was surprised since most surprise attack from her was a one-hit knock out for most opponents.
"I've taken hard hits from different opponents since I was eight. So, you'd need a lot more than that if you want to even make me grunt," Kensei said his expression being almost unreadable as he clenched Kurogane's hilt. "Your teammates were still in the blast radius and would've gotten off worse than me. Even if meant taking me out, you would've done the same thing to your own teammates."
"It was the perfect chance to hunt someone, while they were in the middle of one themselves. We're all servants of Riser-sama, and we're prepared to sacrifice ourselves if need be so he'd achieve victory. So, sacrificing one or two servants against one human should be enough. You're naive if you believe that you can win without making a sacrifice or two."
"Believe me, I'm not naive. I've been through my fair share of battles since I was old enough to pick up a sword and fight. Almost all of them were life-and-death battles without relying on a retirement system to save my life at the last second. But, even then no matter the situation, there's not a single person from my group who'd sacrifice one of their own to save their own skin or win a fight."
Kensei's tone and comment were something that had resonated with the people around him and was something that appealed most to Ravel. It sounded so similar to someone she used to read from a book about heroes from a long time ago but forgot about as she grew up.
"Jeez, you went and spoiled my mood," Kensei said as he brushed his hand through his hair as he sheathed his favored sword. "And I was having a good time before that."
"Well, then it's going to get worse from here!"
Yubelluna spoke as she snapped her fingers as the remaining servants released their demonic powers, all three of them were Pawns who were promoted to Queen and focused on the Bishop trait. Said Bishop who was dressed in formal Japanese clothing held out her hands as if to support their powers.
From all around Kensei binding made from their conjoined demonic powers wrapped around his upper body, and tied attached themselves to the ground around him. He felt the bindings all tighten around him as keeping Kensei from moving and countering. Yubelluna floated in the air gathering demonic power into the next explosion, which was visible in her hands as she smiled victoriously.
"This is the end, human."
"I wonder for who though."
Kensei responds smirking as he raised his right foot, but no one knew what his intentions were.
A flicker of golden light could be seen around his raised leg, then Kensei stomped on the ground loud enough to crack the ground. But, that wasn't the end as the ground around them started to shake as a mini earthquake was generated around them. The Pawns and Bishop who were left all started to lose their footing, as well as their focus on controlling their demonic powers, which was keeping him bound.
Because of that, Kensei cracked and broke through the things binding him, extended his hand toward their Queen, who seemed stunned. Seconds later, a dragon head-shaped bullet manifested in his hand and sent it at Yubelluna at high speed, piercing through her explosive sphere triggering.
"Iyaaah!"
Because of the explosion, which was at close range, Yubelluna was blasted outside of the barrier, causing more injuries than the others.
"Yubelluna!"
Riser called out after seeing his Queen defeated and knocked outside of the barrier.
[Kyaaa!]
Kensei released four more dragon head-shaped bullets, which blasted his last remaining peerage members outside the barrier and out of the battle. And with that, all Riser's fourteen peerage members were defeated and pushed outside of the barrier. Seeing that alone would be enough for anyone not to doubt his effectiveness in a battle. But, neither Lord Phenex, Lady Phenex, nor Ruval, were the people that Kensei needed to convince.
"And now that leaves the King."
Kensei pointed out as Riser stood in front of him clenching his fist as flames started surrounding him.
"Do you think that you have a chance against me, an immortal Phenex because you defeated my peerage?"
"Do you think that you can defeat me because of that immortality of yours?"
Kensei matched Riser's comment as he smirked at him, causing a vein to appear on the third son's forehead as flames surrounded his entire body.
"I'll burn you to ashes!"
Riser declared as he brought out his flame wings, then soared toward Kensei who remained in the same spot as before looking unfazed. He wrapped his fist in aura as Riser approached him, and soon enough their fists flew at one another. As soon as it did though, Riser's entire arm was blown apart much to his surprise, but it didn't even matter as his arms regenerated.
"Sheesh, those flames are no joke. I felt the heat even with my hand wrapped up in aura."
Kensei said as he waved his hand around lightly.
Aside from their immortality, the Phenex Clan controls fire and wind, their flames being comparable to hellfire and can burn even a dragon's scales. Seeing that, Riser aimed another flame fist at him, which Kensei dodged before it could even scrape his skin. After that Riser kept launching various attacks at him covered in flames, all of which were avoided or deflected by Kensei who kept moving around without skipping a beat.
"How'd feeling the intense hellfire of the Phenex Clan feel?! Our name came from the legendary Fire Bird and the Fenghuang. A human such as yourself wouldn't be vaporized if direct land!"
Riser declared as he approached Kensei with another fire punch, as the latter didn't look concerned.
"Hey, Riser. Would you say that a phoenix is your favorite kind of mythical beast?"
"What kind of nonsense is that?!"
Riser was confused and annoyed about that question as Kensei started preparing his right hand for what looked to be an attack.
"I find myself liking dragons the most. Did you know there are martial arts that mimic animals," Kensei asked as he extended his thumb, index, and middle finger in a manner resembling a dragon's claw. "And that even mythical beasts such as dragons are a part of them too?"
Riser wasn't concerned about that since it sounded ridiculous, he rarely took anything that humans made as a serious threat to him. A blue aura raised from Kensei's right hand as he circulated his ki, then he aimed it forward at Riser's flame-covered fist. And at that moment, Kensei caught Riser's fist using all his clawed fingers, stopping his punch and caused a notable impact from both their colliding strikes.
Riser wasn't concerned at all since his fist was still wrapped in flames, which can scratch an actual dragon's scales. And a human in front of him was simply imitating a dragon's claw.
"Don't think that an imitation can defeat me?"
"You're right. But, wouldn't that be the case in your situation too? Even if all of your abilities are similar to that of a phoenix, it doesn't mean you're genuine article either," Riser narrowed his eyes at that comment. "And even if my dad did drink dragon blood and that gets passed on, that doesn't make me a dragon."
"What does that…urgh?"
Riser started noticing that Kensei's attack started to overpower him as his arm was even being forced back, causing Riser to attempt to force his arm back. But, it proved futile against him.
"Y-You got to be kidding me? A human is forcing me back?"
Riser couldn't see the reason that a human should be forcing him back even though devils should be their superior in physical abilities. But, Kensei was forcing his arm backward without giving him the chance to fight against it. Just as his arm was forced back, Riser felt his entire arm and almost the entire side of his shoulder being blasted away.
"Urgh! I'm going to heal from this anyway," Riser said as his wounds started generating, but he didn't notice that it was slower compared to before. "I never understood the reason why humans receive powers despite being the weakest among other species."
"Oh, there's a reason. And that's because most humans don't surrender even if you told us to. If our bodies are weak, we train them. If we lack skill, we try to gain it. That's one of the reasons that things like martial arts were created. And even the magic that magicians uses through researching demonic powers. I guess that some gods were able to notice human potential, and gave them a helping hand. If humans were as weak as you believe then heroes wouldn't have been able to bring down the worse the supernatural had to offer."
The people listening to those words didn't deny them and were enough to stir up more feelings inside of Ravel, who took in every word. Not even Riser was capable of denying those words as his wounds were healed, but that still didn't stop him from wanting to continue.
"I can understand having pride in something that you inherited from your clan. I'm proud of what I inherited from the Amagiri Clan through my mother. And I have pride in the fact that I'm also a descendant from samurai too," Kensei said as he unsheathed Kurogane. "I never thought that I was ever inferior or superior to supernatural or special power users. But, to protect those precious to me, and those who put their faith in me, and to reach the heights that I seek. I'll continue getting stronger. So, I created a union of everything I learned from my mother and Sun Wukong himself. And I call it the Tougen Amagiri-ryuu!"
After declaring those words, Kensei took a strong step forward with Kurogane prepared in his hand and pulled a bit back. Riser despite knowing about his regeneration took an instinctive step back, surprising himself by how own actions. He didn't consider Kensei as a threat to him at all since the first time that they met, but he of all people was taking a step back.
"Tsukisasu."
Kensei aimed a powerful thrust forward towards Riser, where the power was focused most on the tip of the blade. As soon as it came in contact with Riser, it blows a hole through his abdomen causing him to take a step forward as he placed a hand on his stomach. It was a more completed version of the one Kensei previously used against Brynhildr in the exhibition match. It wasn't a serious wound, but he noticed that his wound was healing a lot slower than before.
"W-What. Are you responsible for this?"
Riser asked more out of surprise.
"I'm surprised you noticed it. Your immortality is strong, but it isn't absolute like a real phoenix since you're still a devil in the end. Your regeneration might still work even if you're hit with things like holy water or cross, but it'll still be difficult for you to heal from it. Even then, it'll eat at your stamina and mind, which isn't something that can be healed. And by the end of the day, it's an ability-based around your demonic power, so if your flow of demonic power is disrupted somehow, then your regeneration speed goes down too."
Hearing Kensei's explanation about their immortality was something that impressed Lord Phenex and Ruval. And his counter against it wasn't something that would seriously hurt Riser.
"I hate to admit it, but you're not a weak human. In fact, if I didn't know better, I'd say you're a monster who simply looks like a human."
Those words caused surprise from his family and servants since Riser wouldn't have ever admitted those words for whatever reason.
"Well, then that means that we can end this fight, right? More so, since I have a proposition that might make you think to reconsider me being Ravel's bodyguard."
"And what proposition would that be?"
Riser asked curiously.
"If I fail to protect, and save Ravel if anything happens, then you can incinerate my right arm until it's ash. I'll even become your servant for the rest of my life."
Everyone who heard those words was surprised that Kensei even suggested anything like that. One reason was that he'd lose his dominant arm, which was something that all of them realized after seeing him fighting and even using Kurogane. And second, because that was like surrendering your freedom to someone, a devil no less.
"W-What the hell are you talking about?! You're talking about giving up your arm and life to become a slave!"
Even Riser was surprised after hearing a suggestion like that coming from Kensei's mouth.
"I made a promise to guard and protect Ravel. How else would I compensate if I failed to protect her if anything happens, and I failed to save her?"
Everyone was blown away by those words, which displayed nothing short of honor and duty, something that all of them would expect from a genuine samurai. And there was the absolute confidence that he was going to fulfill his promise in protecting Ravel and taking responsibility if he didn't.
"…Kensei-sama."
Ravel found her heart fluttering as if something that was lost within her heart was restored, causing her to place a hand on her chest smiling. Kensei extended his hand as if to ensure that the promise was finished.
"Ugh, fine. I accept. This doesn't mean that I like you, though."
Riser agreed annoyed as he shook Kensei's hand, showing that he agreed too.
"I can live with that. A lot of people don't like me, most of them being men…and perverts."
"The hell?! Why did you look at me and pause!"
"I have no idea what you mean."
Riser looked irritated as Kensei turned around whistling innocently before snapping his fingers, causing the barrier to come undone.
Once that was done, Riser's peerage went over towards their King as dutiful as before as if nothing had happened. But, there was something that was still on his mind about the match.
"Wait," Riser said directing that toward Kensei who stopped moving. "During the match, you mentioned there was something wrong with how my servants were developing. Not that I care, but what is it."
"Oh that, I mean it's kinda a basic thing that most pure-bloods do, more so those who compete in Rating Games as I heard. You're half-assing it, that's all."
"Wh-What?"
Riser was surprised about his bluntness, and Kensei continued.
"Most pure-blood is talented, yes, but never trains. Instead of relying on their innate talent and abilities throughout their life. That's fine if you still gain experience and growth from that, but you're going to meet someone at one point where that alone won't be enough. And in regards to your servants, there are a lot of them who still have growing to do when it comes to what they're good at as individuals. It'd be a shame if you waste potential because you didn't even bother working for it. Of course, it's your life, and I don't have any say in what you do with it. I'm giving you a heads up if you meet someone, and your usual methods won't work against them."
"…."
Riser didn't give a single response and simply allowed Kensei to walk off.
At around the same time, Riser was approached by his father and brother, the latter seeming to wear a little bit of a smile on his face.
"So, Riser did Kensei-san manage to impress you a bit?"
Ruval asked already seeing that Kensei's words and actions affected him.
"Well, he certainly proved that he's at least qualified to act as a suitable bodyguard."
Riser replied, but both his father and brother could tell that Kensei was someone that no even Riser couldn't help finding him impressive despite his pride.
"There aren't many people in the world, a human no less who would make a statement and promise like that to a devil. Aside from being the son of a trusted partner, I don't doubt Kensei-san's promise at all."
Lord Phenex said, almost not believing that those words were said despite hearing them himself.
"I still don't like him," Riser said as he started walking off with his peerage following behind him. "But, I also hate the fact that I can't hate him."
Despite saying those last words under his breath, his father and brother could still somewhat catch most of what came out of his mouth. Both of them agreed with the words that Kensei said about pure-bloods, and hoped it'd result in Riser growing more as a person.
"So, did I end up impressing you, Ravel?"
Kensei asked for her opinion about the match to Ravel, who looked stunned about the entire thing as it would be embarrassing to share her feelings. And so, she gave her usual response, which caused people to refer to her as the tsundere little sister-type.
"I guess that it was a decent match. N-Not that I was too impressed about it," Ravel spoke in her usual tsundere nature before glancing at him and looking appreciative about something else. "I wanted to thank you for how you handled the match against Riser-oniisama and the others."
"Well, even I like leaving a good impression from time to time."
Kensei understood that despite not showing it, Ravel does care about her older brother and the others, which was one of the other reasons he didn't want to harm them all. He later found himself placing his right hand on top of her comfortably, causing her to give a deep blush by the contact.
"I-It's too embarrassing. I can't tell him that was the most amazing fight that I've ever seen! Kensei-sama used so many different tactics against them despite being outnumbered that it makes me more curious about what else he's capable of! I know that he was holding back the entire time for my sake too. Kensei-sama could have simply broken Riser-oniisama's will to fight, but he didn't. He's truly a mystery that I want to uncover and see for myself."
Despite being embarrassed, Ravel wore a happy smile on her face, which she didn't show to the others.
"I must say that was an interesting match, Kensei-san. More and more, I can see the reason that Tetsuo-san had recommended you to be Ravel's bodyguard. I never thought that seeing martial arts from the human world could be such an interesting sight. I would have that it'd be more violent."
"I appreciate the compliment Lady Phenex. There are times where martial arts are used in performances rather an actual battle."
"Well, you certainly gave us all a spectacular performance," Lady Phenex said before calling something else that was on her mind. "I was also wondering if I could see the fiancées that you were talking about. I'm quite curious about them."
Kensei and Ravel were surprised about the request from her, which originated from her hearing about Claire and the others during their conversation.
"O-Okaa-sama, y-you can't just pry into Kensei-sama's personal life like that!"
Ravel said dumbfounded about her mother's request.
"Oh, so you're aren't curious too, Ravel?"
Lady Phenex asked in an obviously teasing tone as she looked at her daughter, who seemed to be thinking about the kind of answer that she was going to give. But, since hearing about the suggestion, she couldn't help be just a little bit curious about it.
"I don't mind. I have a photo of them on my phone when they were having some girl's night out," Kensei said in a reassuring tone as he pulled out his Oracle Phone, then went to the photo. "Here."
Kensei turned his phone around showing Lady Phenex, and Ravel, who found herself peering at the photo out of a sense of curiosity. It showed Claire, Alice, Hisui, Minako, and Kunou all together as a group taking a selfie that was started by Minako.
"My, they're all quite beautiful young girls. I'm surprised that Kensei-san proposed to them since I don't think that he's the kind of person to go with arranged marriages. You do give off the impression of someone more focused on fighting rather than things like that."
Kensei could hear that Lady Phenex was teasing him too, causing him to get a little bashful.
"W-Well, it took a little longer than usual for me to do it. But, I do plan on marrying them all."
"I see. And if you happen to find someone else you love, then would you do the same thing."
"Uh, yea. Might I ask the reason?"
"No, I'm just curious is all."
Lady Phenex replied casually, but knew from experience with similar women there was a deep meaning behind it, something that also caused Ravel's face to turn red from the implications.
"U-Uh, Kensei-sama, would you mind having another conversation with me over tea?"
"Sure, I'd love to. I loved the tea and snacks that you made."
"T-Then, as a reward for the match, I'll make some more to go along with some cake. But, it might take a little bit of time to prepare."
"I don't mind. I'm sure it'll be worth the wait," Kensei replied much to her happiness. "There's also a game that we might be able to play together."
"A game."
"Yea, it's a game that another teacher of mine got me into playing to make me use my head more. I'd play it from time to time whenever I have the time, and I thought it might be something you'd like."
"Th-Then, I look forward to seeing what this game is."
Ravel said in an attempt not to sound excited and curious but was somewhat failing at doing that.
Seeing the interactions between them was something that caused Lady Phenex to smile since she was seeing a happier and happier side of her daughter. At around the same moment, her husband arrived beside her with a light smile on his face.
"Ara, Kensei-san sure is being a good influence on Ravel and even Riser."
"Yes, I never thought that I'd see Riser even slightly acknowledge a human before. I can see that Kensei-san has a rather honest and charismatic air about him."
Both the mother and father of the Phenex Household found themselves glad that the young man was hired to be their daughter's bodyguard.
Meanwhile, in an unknown location elsewhere in the Underworld, the same figure in a black stealth outfit who poisoned there was sitting down on a stone. Around him, other similarly clothed men standing there beside him armed and prepared to fight against any threat.
"Well, as you guessed, he ended up getting involved in this. I didn't think he'd remove the light that was poisoning the Phenex Clan's daughter, though. He's still as irritating as always."
He stated as he spoke to the same person on the other end of the earpiece.
[Well, it's not surprising considering that the Phenex Clan is among the people his father is partnered with. Even if Kensei Amagiri is involved in this, it doesn't change anything. One way or another, we're still going to get what we want in the end. And besides, since he is there, we might as well give one of them a test drive.]
The person on the other end was the person named, the Benefactor.
"Are you sure about that?"
[Of course, I am. I can't have them remain here waiting without giving at least one of them a trial run first. You have no idea all the work that I put into getting one of these things operational. But, I'll just be sending one of them. I hope for some good reports on its performance.]
Before the man could finish, the Benefactor hung up as a magic circle appeared right in front of him, revealing an inhuman-looking silhouette that stood right in front of him.
"Well, I might as well get good use of this thing."
He said as he looked to see that the inhuman figure's eyes shined with a dangerous red light.
A/N: And there goes the next chapter of DxD – The Last Amagiri, in this chapter, showed a little more of Kensei's interactions with the Phenex Household. It was also a little bit of the continuation of Riser's own distrust in his abilities to protect Ravel. So, it ended up being a match between Kensei against Riser and his entire peerage (not counting Ravel), with the former showing the difference in skills and experience.
During his match against Riser, he showed the third son several things, one of them being his variant of the Amagiri-ryuu similar to his mother, naming it the Tougen Amagiri-ryuu (Paradise Heavenly Mist Style) combining what he learned from Sakura and Sun Wukong, more about it will be revealed as we continue. Second, being that Kensei isn't the kind of human to underestimate. And third, he takes making a promise in earnest. Well, he's quickly earning the Phenex Household's respect the more he remains there.
Near the end, we see that the people who attacked Ravel are there and are preparing for another attempt, their intentions are still unknown. And before we forget, Alice ended up winning the bet near the end and is planning on making it up to Kensei once he returns.
I don't know if most read my profile. But, I was later with the redo of The Twin Dragons, and adding the next chapter for The Last Amagiri, because I sprained my hand. But, it's healed up now.
